Boutique Hotel Matthiol

One of the most beautiful places with beautiful views of the valley. The staff was very friendly and they had a tour of the hotel. The breakfast was delicious. Rooms very great and renovated. An overall package for a great stay. There's a red line which goes to the city and near to the cable car for matterhorn glacier paradise. There's a green electric car provided to go to and fro from the city to the hotel.

I have stayed at this hotel in Zermatt on multiple occasions, and each visit has been exceptional. The breathtaking views are unparalleled, and the room features a private bathtub, steam room, and sauna, all overlooking the Matterhorn. The location is ideal: within walking distance of the town center yet secluded enough to avoid noise from the gondolas and tourist crowds. Additionally, the on-site restaurant is outstanding, and the bar offers an excellent selection of wines. If you are looking to de-stress, this is the ideal location.

We’ve stayed at Mattihol before and used to really enjoy it, but after our recent experience, we won’t be returning.||We had an early train at 6:30 am, and since the hotel shuttle doesn’t run that early, they gave us a voucher for a taxi. Great—problem solved. Later, however, the receptionist asked for the voucher back, telling us we “wouldn’t need it.” We trusted that information.||The next morning, we took the taxi as planned. At drop-off, the driver told us we had to pay—48 CHF for a two-minute ride. This was a complete surprise since we’d been told the voucher covered it.||I contacted the hotel, expecting them to make this right. Instead, they first refused reimbursement, then later emailed saying I should personally call the taxi company to sort it out. That is not my responsibility—it was their mistake, and it left us feeling like we were being punished for having an early departure.||To add to the frustration, the receptionist who mishandled the voucher seemed inattentive from the moment we arrived—asking where we were from, but not listening to our answers, and clearly not listening during training either.||This experience soured what used to be one of our favorite hotels in Zermatt. Sadly, we won’t be staying here again.

A Wonderful Stay at Hotel Matthiol||We absolutely loved our stay at Hotel Matthiol. The hotel went above and beyond to accommodate our needs, including arranging for an extra bed for a friend. Our room was exceptional, featuring a private sauna, steam room, and a luxurious soaker tub—perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring. We also made use of the spa facilities daily and were thrilled to have them almost entirely to ourselves. there is an awesome Nordic spa experience awaiting you here. We even partook in the mud bath. Don't miss the scented shower experience with hot and cold rain showers||||The front desk and restaurant staff were INCREDIBLE, providing excellent service throughout our stay. I had many questions prior to arriving, and they were always patient and helpful in guiding me. The hotel’s location is ideal, within walking distance of the Matterhorn lift and just a short walk to a bus stop, which we used to access other lifts and trains. The complimentary transportation to and from the train station for check-in and check-out was an added convenience that we appreciated.||||The restaurant was fantastic overall, and we had a memorable dinner in one of the charming fondue Kotas. The breakfast team were awesome and always helpful and kind. I made for a great start to each day. However, we were disappointed with the wagyu beef steak, which, at approximately 150 CHF, did not meet expectations. Having enjoyed wagyu in Japan and other countries, we felt the steak, while tender, was not authentic wagyu. Additionally, the pillows were a bit too soft for our liking.||||One thing to note is that the buses stop running in the evening, so if you’re downtown, a taxi is your only option—and taxis in Zermatt are very expensive. That said, the hotel’s location is a bonus, as there are several excellent dining options nearby. Just past the bus stop, we discovered a wonderful Swiss restaurant with a terrace and stunning views, making it an ideal spot for lunch.||||Overall, our stay was fantastic, and we highly recommend Hotel Matthiol for its outstanding service, excellent facilities, and convenient location.

The setting of the hotel is stunning with Matterhorn right there, but what really made it memorable was the amazing staff!! Thank you to all the staff that helped us, you’re all so sweet and kind.

I booked this trip prior to knowing I was pregnant and found out after that I’m pregnant with complications and my dr will not let me travel out of the country. I called multiple times to the hotel explaining the situation and offering a drs note and each time was met with rude service and people saying too bad it’s not refundable and no exceptions. I have used AMEX to book many trips over the years and used them to book this but will never book this hotel again even when I can finally make it to Switzerland. Terrible service and no empathy for a medical condition that required me to cancel my entire Europe trip unable to travel. 0/0 stars and will never stay here.

This is the high-end hotel at the very edge of the Zermatt town. It has an amazing view of the Matterhorn when the sky is clear. We stayed 8 nights for a ski trip last winter. The breakfast was phenomenal and all the amenities in the rooms are well-kept, in tip-top condition. The only "con" is that the hotel is quite far from some of the ski lifts, so be prepared to take a bus in the morning. We rented a ski locker next to one of the lifts to save ourselves from lugging the skis back and forth on the bus everyday. We also love to use the saunas at the spa! Do email in advance and ask the staff to organize ski passes + restaurant bookings should you need it! They are very helpful.

We enjoyed our stay here and it was probably my favorite stay during our 2 weeks in Switzerland. The bed was comfortable and the room was spacious. I booked the spa double room with Matterhorn view which was definitely a good choice. The room has a private sauna and steam room! The shower can become a steam room. The balcony was nice but be aware that the Matterhorn is commonly covered by clouds so you may not be able to see it even if you got the Matterhorn view room. Luckily we did get a glimpse of it on the last day but it really depends on the weather. This hotel is situated a little further away from the train station but there is hotel shuttle to and from the train station. Just call them to book the shuttle. I was pleasantly surprised that the hotel restaurant (Filet Et Fils) had very high quality food. I loved their meat dishes which was flavorful and cooked to perfection. Their breakfast was also pretty high quality compared to the other breakfast we've had around Switzerland. We ate dinner both nights at this restaurant. I definitely felt very relaxed during my stay here. I wish their spa area (outside your room) was more calming. It had a very dark gloomy vibe which made me feel a little uneasy. The whole place was like a maze but small and dark. I love soaking in jacuzzi but their jacuzzi was not hot enough (sitting outside in the cold). I was relieved that we had a sauna in our room that we can enjoy. I would love it try their winter package with fondue in an igloo if we come back in the winter.

After backpacking around Prague and Germany for almost two weeks, my husband and I were ready for some relaxation and pampering in Switzerland. We decided to splurge and treat our selves to the winter vacation package at the Matthoil Boutique. Although it's expensive, it was worth every penny! Our winter package included a 3 night stay at the hotel, ski passes for 2 days (hi Matterhorn!), a discount at a rental ski store, a dinner in their igloo tents, another dinner at the hotel restaurant, a lunch while skiing, two 30 minute messages, and daily breakfast including an assortment of cheeses, meats, eggs made to order, champagne and juice. I am officially a fan of an all inclusive deal! Upon arriving, we were greeted with a complimentary welcome cocktail at the bar and instantly offered a free upgraded room. Our room was amazing, and included a balcony with a view of the Matterhorn, our own personal Sauna (which we used everyday, and was specifically nice after a day of skiing!), a rain shower, an espresso maker, and sheep skin rugs. Our bags were already delivered to our room by the time we got there, and we were treated to a complimentary bottle of wine and cheese/meat platter. The hotel is about a 20 minute walk into town, but walking through Zermatt is beautiful. The hotel is secluded with perfect views of the Matterhorn and a 5 minute walk to the bus that takes you to the chair lift for skiing. They even have a storage room to hold all the ski gear. The hotel goes out of their way to make every little touch special, and we felt this was the perfect way to end our Swissmass trip!

Dishonest owner claims I never canceled. They did not charge my card for the deposit 30 days prior to our arrival as per their written policy so I was confident there was no screwup. But then they charged me the day before arrival and called to ask when I would arrive. Denied that we had canceled and refused to refund. Very bad and dishonest people.

The Hotel is located the furthest away from City Center. It can be good if you are skiing, so you can ski out and in. Getting to city is a long 20 minute walk, uphill on way back, or a bus ride or a spendy taxi. The Facilities are nice and staff is friendly. I am not recommending due to an unfortunate event that was handled poorly. We had a nice room and facility looked nice. After further inspection there were these little flying bugs all over the place. We informed house keeping and they were kind enough to come attempt to clean and remove bugs. Unfortunately their attempt failed. My wife and I woke up with bugs over us, on legs, in ears. It was terrible. They were unwilling to move our room or refund our evening. We attempted to move to a different hotel, but we were there for only two nights, and couldn't find a room for just the one night. Housekeeping again tried to clean room, but it was not a success. Upon checkout, I asked if they would do anything adjusting our bill for the disgusting bugs. They said sorry, no. but manager would be contacting me. I waited three days, he did finally respond but said he needed more time. I still have not heard anything. Bugs in room, bed, shower, bathroom are not acceptable. Not removing them and ending up all over my body is disgusting. Be advised of this place and its insect problems!!

5 stars. Awesome place. The hotel is located in Zermatt, literally underneath the Matterhorn. Beautiful property - it is about a 20 minute walk to town, but this is Zermatt, why would you not walk here. The room was super nice and much bigger than standard hotel rooms. The breakfast was awesome, great selection of cheese, bread, juices. There is a Jacuzzi outside, which is definitely worth checking out after a days or hiking / skiing. I paid about 200 Swiss FR a night - for that price, in Zermatt, this is a super deal. If you are arriving by train, they will pick you up from the train station in the electric car. Highly recommended.
