Villa's Wine & Dine

"In the fine dining restaurant of Villa Melsheimer, you can look forward to imaginative and creative modern dishes that are made from very good fresh ingredients. In summer, the gorgeous terrace overlooking the Moselle beckons! Should the weather not cooperate, you can also enjoy the view from the bright winter garden. The boutique hotel has comfortable guest rooms for overnight stays." - Michelin Inspector

I had the pleasure to be invited for a lunch meal last Wednesday. I had the garden salad with chanterelle mushrooms. It was very well seasoned and presented. The meals of the friends I sat with were also incredibly well presented. Unfortunately I only had lunch, but could feel the team and owners are well versed in providing honest and upmarket hospitality. Well done!!

Probably love at first sight comes when certain events happen, at a specific moment in a specific place. The events and places that contributed to my German infatuation turned out to be the Moesel River Valley, the Reil Town and Villa Melsheimer||||Villa Melsheimer is a lovely boutique hotel set in several old houses, but when I say boutique I do not refer to the design of the hotel, what is the general perception of this type of hotel. I am referring to the fact that even the smallest detail has been taken into account here.||I had heard a lot about the Germans, their cuisine, their meticulousness and hospitality, but what I received at my first encounter with them exceeded my expectations.||On arrival, we were greeted by the hotel owner, she made us feel really welcome. The rooms are modern, well-appointed. The hotel has the best restaurant in the area, offering superb cuisine and a selection of the finest local wines. The breakfast is organized in the hotel ballroom, which is actually ся a lovely winter garden and serves the best breakfast I have ever had in any hotel I have been.

The breakfast was good. After seeing all the nice reviews, We were expecting something nicer then it. The website pictures actually look much nicer then the reality. Perhaps they have some rooms renovated and some are not. The room and bath we stayed were a little old. Also we were misled with pictures of sauna and jacuzzi. It was actually not for the hotel guests but only for the suite. I went back to check the list of amenities and there wasn’t any sauna and jacuzzi. It was my mistake didn’t read through. Sometimes pictures can mislead.

A lovely location, good wine selection, very tasty regional menu… we were impressed with the food quality at a reasonable price. Even though busy, the service was very good. A charming hotel with beautiful rooms, runned by a lovely, always smiling, owner. We will defenitely come back!

This family owned (Dirk and Britta Melsheimer) and run small (25 rooms) boutique hotel is a must stay when in this charming village in a beautiful scenic part of Germany. Situated on the banks of the River Mosel five minutes from the local railway station, there are some steps to climb to Reception and there is no elevator (my too heavy suitcase was a problem). Rooms are located in two separate villas linked by pathways and built at the start of the 20th century. The “Mullehaus” was built in the 16th century and has an interesting history in that during the Napoleonic era, it served as a prison, later becoming the village pub/hostelery. Most guest rooms were tastefully renovated in 2013. There is a feel of comfort and luxury in this establishment with a fireside lounge, beautiful ornaments throughout the series of rooms from Reception through to the award winning restaurant. Breakfast provides much choice with the Chef (owner Dirk) preparing hot food in front of you in the dining room.||Rooms are very spacious with wooden floors which are heated (temperature set at 22 degrees). I was in a Standard Room, with plenty of cupboard space, table, chair and a mini bar. I had a large open plan bathroom with roomy shower and basin with plenty of space for one’s toiletries with an adjoining spacious toilet (with door) – a combination shower gel/soap container was attached to the wall in the shower and above the basin and a hairdryer provided. I slept well in a comfortable queen bed, in this very quiet village environment. ||Every room has a view, mine had both a rear window view of vines up the hill and a side window view of the river. Rooms in front face the river with more vineyards on the opposite side of river. Another big plus is that guests with dogs are permitted to stay with dog in the room – I did not hear one barking!!||I think the rating of 4.5 stars is underdone – it is easily a 5 star in my book. Considering that, the room prices are far lower in comparison to similar comfort/luxury hotels in the Cities.
