My dining companion and I recently visited Auburn, Alabama for what felt like the blink of an eye on a road trip to Nashville, TN. We met friends at the Bow & Arrow restaurant, at their suggestion. This restaurant has a cool vibe and a lot of taxidermied hunting trophy heads mounted to the walls. I doubt any of these were slayed with a bow and arrow, but no matter. The rest of the décor appears to be most reflective of the ever popular farmhouse chic style. There is a large dining room inside and a deck with outdoor seating outside. This is a freestanding restaurant with plenty of parking available around the perimeter of the restaurant.
We were promptly greeted and escorted to a table. Our friends had dined her many times and count this restaurant amongst their top ten in Auburn.
The day we visited was rainy and we arrived as the restaurant opened, so no trouble getting a table and the place did not start to fill up for lunch until 12:30 on a Saturday afternoon.
Our friends ordered the queso blanco and cool ranch tater tots for shared appetizers. Both were good. The tater tots definitely had some kick to them!
I ordered the Smoked Brisket Melt, served with their Texas-Style beef brisket, melty cheese, white bbq sauce on sourdough toast. Although the sandwich default is french fries, I requested a side of their mac and cheese. The server obliged without an upcharge. This sandwich was filling and delicious. I had to take half with me. The mac and cheese was creamy and thick, just the way I think it should be. I was pleased with this menu item.
My dining companion ordered the Chicken Fried Chicken, which was buttermilk marinated and served with a side of whipped mashed potatoes, green beans and sawmill gravy. It's a winner if you're looking for a filling meal. The chicken was moist, flavorful and the batter clung to every bite of chicken. This one is pure comfort food.
The service was great and we enjoyed the rustic ambience. If you're in the Auburn area, this is definitely a place to try out. There are plenty of entrees available for every palette, including enchiladas, fajitas, bbq plates, salads and sandwiches.
