The 19 Best New Upcoming Restaurant Openings of 2018 | Eater

"A South Texas–meets-Alabama smokehouse from a two-time James Beard semifinalist that will center on a custom Kudu fire pit (described as a 'meat chandelier'), showcase brisket as a standout offering alongside a roster of smoked meats, and pair those proteins with choices like white bread or house-made tortillas and long-simmered Southern sides." - Hillary Dixler Canavan

Pretty good lunch here! The portions are pretty decent as well for the price! Daughter’s kids meal was only $3, and it was big enough to take extra home. Fries and grilled cheese off her plate were very yummy and very well seasoned!! The jalapeno sausage was good, but the hash brown casserole and mac n cheese were the stars of the show. It was so good my picky baby even wanted to eat all of it! My server was very nice and mindful! Look forward to bringing hubby so that I can try the tacos next time! The only thing I can say I did not like was that my 2 ft, barely toddler was charged the same for a kiddy drink, as I was charged for regular fountain drink.

Google
We finally tried this restaurant on one of our visits to our kiddo at Auburn, and it was awesome! The food was delicious, especially since they could leave off the disgusting cilantro that is listed as an ingredient on most of their menu items, which I appreciate considering about 15% of all people HATE the taste of cilantro. If they couldn't omit the cilantro, then I would have been very disappointed as so few items on the menu don't have cilantro as a listed ingredient.

Google
Always a great experience. Whether its old school texas bbq, or a great blend of southern tex mex. This place never disappoints.

Had some good grub at the Arrow. Blake's burrito and Christina's Enchiladas. Both were excellent. Staff was friendly. Drinks were cold.

What an amazing restaurant this was! It’s absolutely beautiful inside and very spacious. The food was amazing like nothing I’ve had before! Definitely worth giving this place a try

We are stationed at Fort Moore and have been looking for ACTUALLY SMOKED meats. The brisket is to die for. No sauce needed. Mac n’ Cheese is amazing. Collards are perfect. Pulled pork was incredible. Tacos were incredible. We also had the goat cheese guacamole 🙏🏻 IF YOU LOVE bbq, this is your place!

Google
Cool BBQ vibe. Very open space. Friendly staff. I got the 3 meat platter; brisket, pulled pork and sausage. All 3 were delicious. The mac n cheese and collard greens were perfect!

Delicious as always! We always stop in when traveling to the area for swim meets at Auburn and it definitely doesn’t disappoint. Today we had the smoked wings with butt rub flavor, skirt steak fajitas, fried chicken tacos and street fries appetizer. Everything was fresh and filling of flavor!!

Yelp
My dining companion and I recently visited Auburn, Alabama for what felt like the blink of an eye on a road trip to Nashville, TN. We met friends at the Bow & Arrow restaurant, at their suggestion. This restaurant has a cool vibe and a lot of taxidermied hunting trophy heads mounted to the walls. I doubt any of these were slayed with a bow and arrow, but no matter. The rest of the décor appears to be most reflective of the ever popular farmhouse chic style. There is a large dining room inside and a deck with outdoor seating outside. This is a freestanding restaurant with plenty of parking available around the perimeter of the restaurant. We were promptly greeted and escorted to a table. Our friends had dined her many times and count this restaurant amongst their top ten in Auburn. The day we visited was rainy and we arrived as the restaurant opened, so no trouble getting a table and the place did not start to fill up for lunch until 12:30 on a Saturday afternoon. Our friends ordered the queso blanco and cool ranch tater tots for shared appetizers. Both were good. The tater tots definitely had some kick to them! I ordered the Smoked Brisket Melt, served with their Texas-Style beef brisket, melty cheese, white bbq sauce on sourdough toast. Although the sandwich default is french fries, I requested a side of their mac and cheese. The server obliged without an upcharge. This sandwich was filling and delicious. I had to take half with me. The mac and cheese was creamy and thick, just the way I think it should be. I was pleased with this menu item. My dining companion ordered the Chicken Fried Chicken, which was buttermilk marinated and served with a side of whipped mashed potatoes, green beans and sawmill gravy. It's a winner if you're looking for a filling meal. The chicken was moist, flavorful and the batter clung to every bite of chicken. This one is pure comfort food. The service was great and we enjoyed the rustic ambience. If you're in the Auburn area, this is definitely a place to try out. There are plenty of entrees available for every palette, including enchiladas, fajitas, bbq plates, salads and sandwiches.

Yelp
My wife and I went in here on a Sunday afternoon. The vibe was not bad. The ladies that work, there were very nice, but very slow we started with an appetizer of the three amigos. The guacamole was not bad. The other two was just OK. For lunch, my wife had the enchiladas. She said that was not bad. I had the three meat with mac & cheese and green beans. The turkey was OK. The pork and brisket were cold and dry. The mac & cheese tasted like it was microwaved. The green beans were not bad. Very difficult to try to pull off barbecue and Mexican in one joint very average at best

Yelp
With high praise for the menu, I had the chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes, white gravy, and green beans. Perfect comfort food. We were greeted with a smiling face and seated right away- excellent! My wife and I enjoy your restaurant with only one constructive criticism. I recommend you place blinds on the windows; the sunlight is blinding and uncomfortable in the evening for your customers.

Yelp
Dropped in for a quick lunch on our way home & happy we did! The staff, atmosphere & food were all great! Highly recommend the Brisket Melt - will be craving that for some time now! Might warrant another visit soon!

Yelp
Friendly staff and nice place. Had a short wait for a table on a Sunday late morning. Landon was our server and he was a nice kid. Started with chips and queso to start. The kids devoured them and Landon brought a second bowl of chips to finish off the queso. B&A is a tastefully decorated with hunting and Many deer heads! Krissy ordered a chicken sandwich, Karlea got a burger, Brody got Pulled pork sandwich and Katy and I both got Christin's enchiladas. Sipping my Arnold Palmer while waiting for our meal. We loved B&A and it was a great meal on our trip to the beach! If I had an Auburn, AL Collection B&A would be top of my list. Cheers!

Yelp
I had very high hopes for this place after seeing reviews & knowing I was coming to visit on a work conference. It was good but far from great. We came in on a Wednesday night & you could tell they had staffing issues in the kitchen. They had the wait staff but inside only half the tables were occupied despite at least 5 different parties being told a 25-30 minute wait. We ended up sitting outside. We didn't mind as we lived in the Midwest & the 60s weather at 6pm was amazing. Service was a tad slow but expected in a college town. Drink menu was good. I ordered the Chicken Fajitas bc I was not really in mood for a sandwich or enchilada. It was tasty but very small portion sizes for a fajita meal. The pita that came with it was top notch. I am not a big tortilla fan but it was great to have the pita bread over that. It wasn't bad but glad I wasn't super hungry bc I would have been wanting more food

Yelp
Wow, what amazing place in Auburn, Alabama! We were on the road heading to Pensacola, Auburn seems to be one of the best places to stop on the way. Yelp hook me up with this place for sure very cool motif, with super friendly staff. The food was the star. We got the Lotte fries for appetizer. My wife got the fried chicken tacos, and I got the brisket. Melt sandwich. Everything was very tasty and fresh. I will say, the star of everything one of those fried chicken tacos! Amazing flavors. Overall, a really great place to eat. I will be back!

Yelp
To be honest it's a 3.5 but between up or down I went up thinking just a bbq place it would be better. See below. Me and wife came here for lunch on Sunday for first time. Since church had just ended there was a good amount of people but we only had to wait about 10 minutes. The staff were very friendly and even though a little busy we're right on top of things. We were given menus right away and are drinks came out very quickly. We decided to share the fajitas molcajetes which is for two and comes with steak chicken and shrimp. As well as their tortillas, rice and correct beans. We also got a side of mashed potatoes and gravy. The good. The steak and shrimp were delicious cooked very well. As were the tortillas. I'm positive they are hand made and done right. Also the potatoes and gravy were excellent. The ok. The rice. It was alright. Seemed almost like instant rice really. The beans. They were ok to be honest I would have just preferred regular pinto beans but they were ok. The bad. The shrimp. The wife started to eat one and it wasn't fully cooked. She had to spit it out. As a bbq place it's good. As Mexican not the best other than the tortillas. I would go back but I'd just get a meat combo and maybe a side of tortillas.

Yelp
The food was incredible. Unlike any kind of cuisine we've had before and it was DELICIOUS. We had the brisket burrito and the fried enchilada along with the dip trio app. We are already considering our next trip to Auburn just to go back and eat!
google avatar

Yelp
Not what I was expecting, but I'm not disappointed! I enjoyed the bbq enchiladas, while my kiddos had bbq sandwiches. The sauce is a bit spicy for the kids, but I absolutely loved it! Perfect meal to fill us up after a long day of soccer.

Yelp
We ate and drank here after my niece's graduation at Auburn and were so impressed. Bow & Arrow combines two of our favorite BBQ and Tex-Mex cuisines. We weren't going anywhere else for dinner once we saw we could have queso and smoked meats. The decor is cute. They have string lights outside on their patio area. Pick between high tops or regular tables in the original building or the additional indoor patio area. It was busy when we walked in, so we went to the bar and sat immediately. Our bartenders were very friendly and helpful. I freaked out when I saw there was a margarita that was topped with Prosecco. It's called the TE-KILL-YA, but I wanted spicy, so she used a jalapeño tequila to make it spicy for me. It was great. If I ever come back, I would get it without simple syrup to make it less sweet. I liked it so much I got two of them. The first round for my hubby was the highwaymen. He loves mezcal and likes the drink, but it was a petite pour; for real, it filled only a 1/3 of the glass. He rarely drinks faster than me and finishes it in about four sips. His next drink was a mezcal, and he enjoyed it. We snacked on the Three Amigas so I could have queso and guacamole, and my hubby could have his salsa with them. Their chips are the outstanding, thin, crispy ones. The guy next to us was a former employee, and his favorite app was the cool ranch tater tots, so he was eating those. Deciding between BBQ and Tex-Mex was hard, so I chose the fajita grilled salmon Plato. It was delicious! The salmon was grilled to perfection. I loved the toppings of pickled onions and avocado with the bed of cheesy grits. The mix of the grilled poblanos peppers and onions gives the grits the Tex-Mex spicy flavor. My hubby enjoyed the mix-and-match taco plate. He picked the pork and fried chicken. He wanted the pork, and we both enjoyed the fried chicken. The fried chicken taco is one of the best we have devoured. Your tacos come with any side, so we picked the mac and cheese made from scratch, and it was so cheesy and good. We enjoyed our meal and will return if ever in the area again.

Yelp
So here we were in Auburn- small college town - Auburn. I haven't been here in 25 years - alot has changed. We were here a long weekend in July for a tennis tournament and we stumbled upon this amazing restaurant. David Bancroft is known for his skills - I love food network so I can remember his win on iron chef showdown so I was all about trying his second restaurant. The staff was accommodating and let us sit at the bar so we didn't have to wait 2 hrs. We ordered the Fajitas Molcajetes for 2 but we really should call this large bowl of goodness Smokey greatness for 5!!! Spiced and cooked to perfection!!! We sat and had a few drinks and enjoyed the food and company and overall chill atmosphere with country music playing. I am not a country music fan by the way. it was still one of the best meals I have had in a long time !!!!

Rick N.

Yelp
Texas style brisket, turkey, and sides in Auburn! First time here. Brisket exceeded my expectations.
google avatar

Julie K.

Yelp
The food was amazing, hard stop. The kitchen crushed it. Service, everyone as polite and friendly and nice... but needed some training and frankly drive. They were not invested in pushing themselves to turn tables, get seats full and really didn't care that customers were waiting. Don't get me wrong, they correctly communicated wait times, but they were unnecessary. As someone who worked in restaurants for too long, this was a miss and simple fix. The staff and culture are resulting in lost revenue. The food and beverage offerings, crushing it. Easy fix for the establishment. I would come back.

Yelp
My first time here, we ordered chips and queso. Queso was extremely watery-- sloshed out when waitress placed it down. It had no flavor at all; when we mentioned it to the waitress, she was very apologetic and said "other people had complained about it that day too and it's weird because they normally have great queso."-- it was taken off of our bill. We came back 3 weeks later and decided to give it another try, but with the chili queso. Literal water again :( no flavor at all. So sad, don't get the queso. Also had an extremely disinterested waitress. On the other hand, the other food is great! Brisket, Mac and cheese, green beans, brisket melt-- all delicious. Margaritas were also great. Seems to be hit or miss with service and always a miss for queso

Riley R.

Yelp
We came on a night where they had a very large group, but even considering that our food took way too long to come out, especially for a bbq restaurant where the entrees are already cooked. We ordered some nachos that were pretty good and got some complimentary loaded fries that were incredible, but then we waited about three hours just for my ribs to be tough and lazily sauced. I think this place has good potential if you go on the right night but it doesn't seem ready for prime-time.

Yelp
One of the top restaurants in Auburn, solid food, unique ambiance and quick service. Only issue is food is overstated, after three visits, each was over salted. Other than that, no complaints. Painkiller drink is great too.
google avatar

Fred R.

Yelp
Excellent service from the bartender! Food was delicious, atmosphere was wonderful. So many great menu selections.
google avatar

Rod M.

Yelp
This was my first visit to Bow & Arrow. It was highly recommended and I see why as the food was great. It is an interesting menu, a bbq and Mexican fusion. The bbq is predominantly Texas style and the brisket was outstanding. I had the "King George" enchiladas and they were fantastic. The service was excellent, very friendly. The ambience and atmosphere are very nice and clean, it certainly fits an upscale bbq restaurant. I will definitely be back next time I am in Auburn.
google avatar

Denise C.

Yelp
Outstanding food!!! My husband Said the best taco he has ever had !!! I had the crispy enchiladas and they were amazing as well !! Great atmosphere too !!! New favorite in auburn !!
google avatar

Daun C.

Yelp
It's always good - no matter what we order. Really! This visit, I ordered the Chicken fajitas - perfectly grilled and served with house made soft flour tortillas. My husband got the grouper soft tacos and said they were really good with plenty of grouper.
google avatar

Abigail H.

Yelp
Excellent music and friendly staff! My dad and I came here for lunch. Their music selection and friendly staff set a nice atmosphere. I had the smoked turkey with a side of collared greens and brisket beans. Dad had the shrimp fajitas, which were okay. The collared greens were unflavored and tasted more leafy. The brisket beans tasted better than the borracha beans.
google avatar

Olivia G.

Yelp
Great country/modern style environment for family dining, glad we found this while we were on vacation. You can see them making homemade tortillas through a window which was pretty neat. We had the family meal that comes with a pound of every meat, one of every side, and two desserts. There were 6 of us and we got plenty to eat for a reasonable price! I recommend this restaurant if you are passing by or in the area!
google avatar

Steve C.

Yelp
First visit and what a tasty experience! This is a barbecue joint, but it doesn't stop there as it is also a Mexican joint. I went for the pure barbecue dinner on this visit. I had the brisket, hash brown casserole, mac & cheese, and the borracho beans. The brisket was good, the park was excellent. Hash brown casserole with salad, Mac and she's very creamy and full of flavor, and the Borracho beans we're just OK, a bit too much liquid/sauce with these. Dinners are served with a small side of spicy pickles slices and they are outstanding in flavor! Service was fantastic and I'm looking forward to coming back and trying their barbecue infused Mexican fare!
google avatar

Scott B.

Yelp
Overall great experience. Service was quick, food was good and the atmosphere was nice.
google avatar

Camille F.

Yelp
Great place! Gotta beat the church crowd if you go on Sunday, they fill up fast. Busy for dinner most nights and might have to wait for a table--call ahead to ask what the wait is! Drinks are great and the food is stellar. I usually go for the Cristina's Enchiladas which are so filling yet fresh and light for being a tortilla covered in queso. Beautiful restaurant, especially all lit up at night! Great for a date night.
google avatar

Jeremy B.

Yelp
Yep we really enjoyed our first experience dining here. My favorite and new go to dish is the queso tater tots. Wow. I also enjoyed the smoked turkey plate, perfectly prepared Mac n cheese, and all other dishes we devoured. The food came quickly and we'll certainly be back since every dish tasted good

Lindsay W.

Yelp
The food was delicious!! I got the sliced brisket plate with Mac and cheese and collared greens. The brisket was melt in your mouth. The Mac and cheese was so perfect and creamy. And the collards were just Devine! I'm here on a work trip and I'm so glad I picked this place to stop into!! Highly recommend, and I might even go back tonight
google avatar

Julia C.

Yelp
Bow & Arrow is incredible! The food is always on point and their are very consistent with flavors. I worked there in the past and it is a great group of people. But the food trumps all. They have grown so large and this is a great spot in Auburn, AL!!
google avatar

Ryan B.

Yelp
First time eating there today and everything was great! Our server Daniel gave us excellent service and was helpful finding gluten free items that my friend could enjoy. The brisket melt was amazing!
google avatar

Jake S.

Yelp
Arrived at 6pm and even at that time , they was lot of parking spots in lot and could see tables empty and a party for 2 host said be over 1 hr and 30 mins wait
google avatar

Allison C.

Yelp
AMAZING BBQ. I'm not a huge fan of bbq but I thought this place was absolutely delicious. All of the meat was extremely tender (like fall off the bone) and had so much great flavor. The portions were decent too and prices reasonable. Definitely recommend trying out this place!
google avatar

Kayla H.

Yelp
An interesting mix of barbecue and tex-mex food. They do not take reservations so we had a 45 minute wait. They have a cooler of different beers at the host stand to help your wait pass by! I highly recommend the raspberry flavor margarita! I had pulled pork, macaroni, and mashed potatoes. The pulled pork was phenomenal! Loved the dry rub and the bbq sauce. Unfortunately, the macaroni was cold and the mashed potatoes had white gravy on them, which made for a very off-putting color. Our service was very poor. Our server seemed very unorganized, but she was friendly and apologetic. Our food did not come with bbq sauce, one of my husband's sides were missing, and we ordered a second round of margaritas that never made it to us. Overall, great barbecue and drinks, okay sides and poor service.
google avatar

Harry W.

Yelp
Ambiance was great. Typical of Tex Mex dining. Portions were big and flavorful. Staff was very attentive to refills and polite. We had the pulled pork sammich and King Enchiladas. Lots of brisket in the enchilada and very filling. Definitely be back to try some other items. Didn't think about pics until after we ate.
google avatar

Chris S.

Yelp
This is the best restaurant in Auburn IMO. The brisket sandwich is probably in my top 3 sandwiches of all time. The enchiladas are also amazing.

Joe G.

Yelp
Service was great.. food was hot and tasty It came highly recommended from employees at the airport..
google avatar

Heather B.

Yelp
Food was great! Enough options for our bigger party which included kiddos! I got the trio dip and loved it!

Debra M.

Yelp
Nice staff. Sat at bar since Tuesday night wait was 30 min. We were traveling and hungry! All seats are metal bar stools gave backs to them. It was 35 degrees out and the place was cold and seats of metal didn't help. Got crispy enchiladas. Huge portion. Good presentation until i realized they pOured baked beans all over so it literally tasted like Campbell's baked beans. Ate half and left half. Also had chicken enchiladas that were half the portion if the crispy, This one smothered in cheese sauce, like drowning in it. Too rich. My 250 lb hubby was in the bathroom most of the night and next morning but he did think they were good.
google avatar

Joe S.

Yelp
Second trip to Auburn and back to Bow & Arrow! Love the atmosphere and the service was excellent once again. The Topo Chico Ranch waters were great and fit well with the steak fajitas.

Brian B.

Yelp
Restaurant has a cool vibe. Nice layout. Food was amazing. Service was a tad slow but not bad

Yelp
Probably a 4.5 but I'm rounding up for benefit of the doubt. Came into town and took our student and roommate out to dinner. We waited a little late, so there was then a wait at Bow & Arrow, but it wasn't too long and we decided to get some drinks for the newly-21s and the more-than-double-21 who wasn't driving. Attempted to get a Snozzberry Daiquiri in addition to a couple Surf Riders, but they came back a minute later to say that it wasn't available. I can only think they may have run out of pama. We settled down on some patio furniture out front to wait and within minutes of getting our drinks our table was ready. Most of the table got pulled pork plates, but we also added a catfish dinner and a pulled pork sandwich. The mac and cheese was a hit, as the teen who got the catfish meal ended up adding another side of it on seeing the rest of the table's portions. The pulled pork sandwich was good, with very tender meat, but I gotta say the sesame seed bun was a little extra. I've never seen so many sesame seeds on one bun before. I know this place will be busy during football season. I did see recently that they had to suspend all take-out/call-in and delivery orders until they can maintain enough staff to do all of it to the level they expect of themselves. So if you have a little longer wait because they're only able to offer dine-in at the time, rest assured it's worth it, and they'll take care of you when you're seated. Just get an iced beer from the tub or order from the bar and relax a bit.
google avatar

Yelp
Service was good. Food was delicious especially the banana pudding.. We enjoyed our visit.

Michael H.

Yelp
Go. It's great. Enchiladas, Banana pudding And beer. You can't go wrong It's legit

Yelp
Yummy salmon over cheese grits with avocado and pickled red onion and lots more. Service was great. Avoid peak lunch time for easier parking.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious food and a great environment! We had queso and loaded fries for appetizers. Fajitas were good and BBQ looked yummy.

Noelle M.

Yelp
Was excited to see a place boasting Texas style barbecue with a story that sounded compelling! After being away from home long enough one does miss the finer things...especially our BBQ! We ordered the goat cheese guac to start and shared the full rack of ribs with tots and collards. The guac wasn't our favorite but we enjoyed the ribs (although they were a bit dry) and loved the sides. Was nice to have a taste of home. And they had Topo Chico!
