Since 1951, this family bakery has fueled El Paso mornings with pan dulce, empanadas, and holiday roscas—plus savory burritos and tamales. A downtown staple with deep neighborhood ties, it’s frequently covered by local outlets for seasonal specialties and its enduring legacy.

Google
Well… can’t say enough about this bakery! Today we went to grab a dozen tamales as we had heard they were some of the best in town. Unfortunately we had to wait as they were having issues with their oven. Let’s just say they made it worth our wait! They gave us a some baked goods during the wait with an apology for the wait. These were all beyond good. When we received the tamales it was just WOW.. worth the wait!! The masa is fantastic and filling flavor was the simply the best!! Customer service AND a great product! May be a little off the beaten path but WELL worth the trip!

Google
It’s our family’s old time favorite bakery. Nostalgic for my mother in law to visit her old neighborhood bakery with fresh baked goods: piña empanadas & macaroons.

I ordered online for pickup and it was super easy. When I arrived, they had my order and I added some additional items. We have visited many times over the years when visiting El Paso and it never disappoints. Everything was fresh, same great flavors and selection. The staff was friendly and helpful. We will be back next time we visit El Paso.

Google
This Bakery is a MUST! I VISITED TODAY, 06/27/23, And they're Pan Dulce is as good as EVER!!!! I grew up with Bakery, and I had to have their maranitos! I highly recommend this Bakery if you want Authentic Mexican Sweet Bread!!! Go ahead and Try it!!!🧁

Dessie H.

Google
This is where the locals go for their sweet tooth fix. But not only! I asked a local which place has the best tamales... He didn't think twice and recommended Bowie bakery! Now this is my first time eating tamales, so I can't compare, but the place had quite a few people! Their tres leches cake is one of the best I have had! The rice pudding is quite good as well! It is an El Paso staple, so definitely worth a visit! Great people, friendly, helpful and patient! Recommend!

Google
I grew up in Segundo Barrio so this bread was a staple in our home. Yes at one point this was probably the best sweet bread in El Paso but those days are long gone. The bread is good however very expensive. Five dollars gets you three pieces. Honestly you can get better pastries at Albertsons and better prices at Vista.

Google
I hadnt passed by the area since when I was very young during the 1970's. And to stop by to get some bread kinds before like with another family ones too but maybe my dad did when he had a chance to travel in the U.S. from San Diego to the same area for his job .

Google
Was warm and toasty on the inside, love the smell of the freshly baked pastries and they taste amazing too. 10 out of 10!

Yelp
This is a small mom and pop shop in El Paso, super close to the border. The neighborhood is very quiet and seems like this is a staple within the community. They have a variety of pasties and sweets you can choose from. We had a tres leche cake and a pineapple upside cake ( not pictured). Both were a bit in the dryer side but still tastey, especially the tres leche cake.

Yelp
I had, i a schedule pickup.. Pick up at 7 to pick up some cookies. And I didn't pick them up until 7:30, because they were not ready, they were really unprofessional., really rude, and even a kid on the back came out and started mad dogging me.. me because I was asking them, you know, for my order.
google avatar

Yelp
Great prices, delicious pastries! If you buy a coffee you get a free donut! Service was quick and efficient.
google avatar

Marie G.

Yelp
They have a good selection but sell out fast. Wish they were open a little later on Sunday so I can make it there after church. During the week, I went there for a rosca de Reyes cake which the lady on the phone told me was in stock in the morning. By the time I got there after lunch, they were sold out and the only lady in the front did not speak English so I was at a loss.
google avatar

Yelp
Going early is the best way to ensure all the freshest donuts! Delicious smells and no wait this morning. Quick and easy checkout made my Sunday morning.

Nicholas M.

Yelp
The pan dulce are very good. Make sure they are not a day old. They can get crusty. In this dry climate they do nothing to keep them fresh. So only get today's pan The burritos at hays are terrible. Those on Doniphan are very good

Yelp
When I got in El Paso, there has always been a debate on which bakery is better: Gussie's or Bowie. Both are very popular bakeries within the different sides of El Paso and it was something that I was very eager to visit. The first bakery that I visited was Gussie. It was a much nicer place and vibes, but when it comes to Bowie, this place stood out. The pastries here are much better, more options, and the price is better as well. My favorite is their cannoli and I would say that it is on par with the famous canoli place in Boston. Parking is a bit hard to find as you have to use street parking and it is usually full, but it is manageable.
google avatar

José A.

Yelp
Iconic and famous Latino Bakery in historic Segundo Barrio is a treat! Great pan dulce and plenty of street parking, offers visitors, and neighbors, a chance to eat this delicacy.
google avatar

Linda L.

Yelp
Very yummy! So much of a selection. Everything was good. The strawberry and cream was a little runny though. But the pastries were fresh and worth the trip!

Brandone W.

Yelp
They said that they would wait for me to come, as I was stuck in traffic because of the rain and I got outside of the door at exactly 7 and they refused to serve me and let me stand out in the rain even though they said that they would, very rude and unprofessional I will never return to this disgrace of an establishment again, I will just go to a better bakery like el prado or valentines.

Yelp
I've been coming here since I was 5. Still great, would not hesitate to go back. Good opportunity to practice speaking Spanish too. Very friendly people.

Yelp
I think this bakery is so well known and so established in El Paso that it doesn't even need my review... HERE IT IS ANYWAYS! I got out of work in the morning and was freezing I was craving something sweet and hot (or maybe just an excuse to get some comfy food), my coworkers told me about this bakery I know is well known in El Paso but I've never tried it before. It was a line outside at 8am once inside the place smelled delicious and though first my plan was to get only one piece of bread and tamales once I was there I couldn't stop ordering stuff; I had 2 empanadas (apple and pineapple) a chocolate donut, a concha and half dozen of tamales. As you can see the donut didn't survive the road, I was putting it in my mouth as I was driving home , the bread so soft and warm perfect! I'm not a huge fan of conchas I know they're like a Mexican bakery favorite but I just don't see the hype, well let me tell you THIS concha made me believe all my dreams can become true, there's something about the way they make their dough here that the final result is bread so soft and not too "panudo" as my mom would say meaning that it's too thick and dry. Tamales tamales I love tamales but honestly my moms are the best in the world....or so I thought this tamales are so fluffy so greasy (in the perfect way) and the filling is delicious usually when they sell tamales that's where they make their mistake but not Bowie, these tamales are so good I had to call my mom with tears in my face telling her that her tamales are no longer the best in the world. If you haven't got a pan dulce lately go to Bowie and you'll be smiling as I've been this whole week
google avatar

Juanne D.

Yelp
They have really great donuts here and cannolis! The donuts weren't too sweet and tasted really fresh, like they were made just a little while before. The cannolis were really great as well, they were as the next day as well. I'd definitely be coming back here again in the future for more!
google avatar

Stephen M.

Yelp
Ordered food only to be texted that it would arrive 2 hours later. This was to be a breakfast surprise for my friends office.
google avatar

Cherie R.

Yelp
Tamales were fantastic! I'm not a tamale expert, but we were in El Paso for 24 hours. I had to give them a go. They were NOT bland, and the masa had a texture to them that made them feel "homemade" and not commercially produced. The meat to masa ratio was also great, but I don't know what's normal - the tamales I get at the grocery store are definitely more masa.
google avatar

MG N.

Yelp
Nostalgic environment that has been in existence well before I was born--this bakery has been a long-standing favorite of the family. The neighborhood has gone down but don't let that stop you from stopping in early to grab some fresh goodies!
google avatar

Emily K.

Yelp
Amazing bakery! If you're searching for some delicious pastries at great prices, Bowie Bakery is the place to go. My favorites so far are the chocolate-filled croissant, glazed donut, & carrot cake cupcake, but there are so many others to choose from. I can't wait to go back & try more! Bowie Bakery is definitely worth a visit soon whether you're looking for breakfast, dessert, or a sweet snack.
google avatar

Nancy H.

Yelp
Had to visit downtown and decided to stop here midday. Even it was around 1pm the bakery had a great selection of pastries. I had been craving cannolis for about a month and I'm glad I found them, these are good. The fruit small pie it's filled with cool whip, I was expecting a tart at bottom but no. The best pastry was the pineapple empanada, but I have no pics as I ate as soon as I could.

Yelp
If you're in town visiting and stay in hotel row or in the middle of nowhere north of everything like I was, this tiny hole in the wall is pretty out of the way regardless of what Google Maps tells you. I wasn't the driver but I felt like we maneuvered through a lot of different streets to get there. Street parking only but that wasn't an issue. We parked very close to the entrance. There was a guy outside who only spoke Spanish and I didn't catch what he said so I could tell you why he was sitting there with a bunch of stuff... but he seemed very in earnest and nice. :) There was a mom and her daughters there in front of us so we only waited for maybe a few minutes on a week day afternoon. I t's a little intimidating to go in there if your Spanish isn't fluent. The lady who helped us did speak English but you could tell Spanish was her go-to. I asked her for half a dozen tamales (I don't know if there are different kinds or not because I only saw one type of bag in the frig behind the display) and a slice of the tres leches cake for my BF. It's pretty cheap. All that came to $12.85. Tamales are very good. BF said his abuelita makes the best but he was pretty impressed by these and said he'd go back (he's a native to EP) and get more. He also enjoyed the cake. He destroyed it even with lactose intolerance. Wish I'd taken pics but we were hell bent on getting that cake in the frig once we left and like I mentioned we stayed nowhere near Bowie. If I end up going back for business to the airport, I'm definitely going to hit this place up again!

Yelp
BBBBBUUUSSSIIIINN cant beat the prices either best bakery in town fs im a fien i need one daily!

Laura Elena P.

Yelp
Delicious sweet bread, great customer service. Bread is big not small as in other bakeries.

Laura C.

Yelp
Los tamales más feos qué e probado secos y sin sabor, y no se diga del menudo aguado y desabrido
google avatar

Peggy W.

Yelp
This bakery has delicious pastries at a remarkably low price. They have a very large selection of all kinds of pastries from fruit tarts, and cheese cake to pan dulce and apple fritters. Everything is very fresh and delicious.
google avatar

Patrick K.

Yelp
With the Christmas rush of tamales... Everyone has forgotten about Bowie Bakery.... HANDS DOWN..... WAY BETTER TAMALE than the widely talked about Gussies!!! Bowie stuffs their tamale the way your supposed to make a tamale.... The ratio is almost 50% meat to 50% masa. BEST TAMALE.... Great staff, even on Christmas Eve.... I got In, and got out in a matter of minutes. The staff was AWESOME..... all smiles and PLENTY of tamales and sweet bread. I'm sorry but gussies tamales are a serious disappointment anymore. You get 90% MASA and 10% meat... not to mention soggy.
google avatar

Tovar T.

Yelp
This place is amazing! Go nowhere else! It is worth the drive, even from out of town! They have every delicatessen imaginable. I had driven and called bakeries (the day before) for a small cake I needed for a small surprise birthday party. NO ONE HAD ANY (all bakeries said they needed at least 2days advanced notice). I called Bowie Bakery (on the day of), and lo&behold, they had had exactly what I needed. I am from El Paso, but had been gone for over 20yrs and just out of desperation I remembered this bakery but didn't think they were still open?? To my PLEASANT surprise it is and is still serving El Paso with delicious goodness. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO ONE AND ALL!

Claudia R.

Yelp
Worse Tamales ever tasted in my life. If u want a Dozen of pura Maza Thats the right place to go. Where's the Meat
google avatar

Erick D.

Yelp
My mom used to live around here and loves going to Bowie. According to her the taste has only gotten better. Some FHE best Mexican bread in town. Even the day old bolio (rolls) was amazing. The place was super clean and the staff was friendly. Next time we are in town, we will definitely come back.

Adriana F.

Yelp
Oh so disappointed the tamales are horrible now! Big and full of maza! And very dry!! The small moist full of flavor are no longer there! I was so sad. I was so excited to make it back and grab two dozen to take with me out of town bragging to some friends about them! They were such a BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!!! The two is because the sweetbread is still good!

Cassandra T.

Yelp
From the donuts, the slice of yellow cake with chocolate on top , lunche , tamales , muffins, and the list goes on... Bowie Bakery is Absolutely Delicious , w/good service and great prices !!!
google avatar

Scott G.

Yelp
Nice bakery with a good selection. I think this is the best bakery in the area and is definitely worth stopping in.
google avatar

Yelp
My Mom was born in Segundo Barrio as they would call it and she introduced her family to Bowie Bakery. We know Bowie Bakery has always been the best Bakery in El Paso, Texas. Live on Bowie Bakery we love you and all of the employees. God Bless You all for all of your hard work. My Mother is 90 years young and still feels the same about "Delicious Bowie Bakery."

Yolanda H.

Yelp
I was told by neighbors that the Bowie bakery on Park was the best place for holiday tamales. We missed the season but went by to get pan dulce while we were out shopping. It is a bit off the beaten path. My go-to place has always been Gussies but was willing to try something new. Hands down amazing. My favorite pan is the marranito and it is the standard for a Mexican bakery for me. These are the best. Thought that the price was higher than Gussies but the servings are larger. A must.
google avatar

Elizabeth R.

Yelp
As a child my uncle , when he would visit us would always bring a big bag of pan from Bowie Bakery. My favorite was the Simones. 55 years later they are still my favorite.
google avatar

Rita F.

Yelp
Great bakery to visit. Smells amazing when you walk in. I got chocolate donuts, concha and tamales. Big pastries and great tasting as well. The donuts and conchas are not dense. Which I prefer. Light and wonderful. Tamales are huge and also taste great. Highly recommend. They had all kinds of pastries from your traditional Mexican varieties to parfaits, cakes and macaroons to name a few. The range is awesome!
google avatar

Lorraine L.

Yelp
Pan dulce now has a new standard to live up to - the Bowie Standard. For a lifetime, I have snubbed all pan dulce that didn't come from my favorite panaderia Nuevo Leon in Chicago. Now that I've had Bowie, there is a new favorite. I loved the calvos (an esponja with coconut), the cinnamon mini-donut, the cuellos, screw it, everything we got from there was ridiculously delicious. Highly recommended! P.S. Pan so good that even Dubya liked it.

Patricia R.

Yelp
I got a empanada but the filling was supposed to be apple but it was weird texture.. kind of thick couldn't really tell what type of filling it was honestly.
google avatar

Mel G.

Yelp
Solid panadería with tons and tons of choices. I had apple empanadas here and they were very good--and probably the biggest apple empanadas I've ever had. Really reasonably priced, and great to support a local business that has been an El Paso staple for years. I know where to go the next time I get an apple empanada craving!
google avatar

Dago M.

Yelp
Oh my goodness !!!! The authentic Mexican bread is delicious!!! Grew up on this and it only gets better!!!! Yum yum !!!
google avatar

Ezgi K.

Yelp
It is soooooo good! I got so many different things and my favorites are the cheesecake and tres leches! The best bakery in town!!! You gotta check it out!
google avatar

Jason B.

Yelp
You can go wherever you wander. Far and wide in this big world. But you would be hard to find a Panaderia that makes better sweet breads, Donuts and pastries, than Bowie Bakery. This is a must stop whenever I come to El Paso.
google avatar

Tiffany M.

Yelp
When you think of pan dulce everyone thinks of Bowie Bakery. Not because they are the very best in the whole world but because it reminds us of our child hood. When people come to town I love to bring them here to get pan dulce to experience a part of El Paso that sometimes is forgotten but like pan dulce we all love. Some days you just have to start your morning with a sweet treat
google avatar

Maria W.

Yelp
First time here and the smell of delicious baked goods take your senses over. The bollilo bread were amazing, it is a good crusty bread with a wonderful texture to sop up your Menudo, Pozole or build a decadent torta or a loaded sandwich. The Ojo de Buey were fancy, they had been topped with frosting and raspberry or custard. They had a lot of non- traditional items as while, like Minion cupcakes, pies, and chocolate chip cannolis. If you like coconut, get the macaroons. I minus one star because there is no place to eat. You pick up and go, not a sit down place.
google avatar

Andrés C.

Yelp
The best panadería ever! Have yet to found a better one. My favorite pastry has got to be the chocolate glazed donut or the cinnamon roll.
google avatar

David V.

Yelp
Perhaps pricier than most other bakeries, Bowie Bakery is an El Paso icon. Perhaps the best pan dulce in town, it's worth an occasional trip. Their rosca de reyes, which they sell around Epiphany, is delicious. I haven't had a problem with surface parking, but I repeat: this place is famous. You may have to wait in line for service, but it's worth the wait. Greatly enjoyed the cuernito bread last time I went.
google avatar

Yeraima R.

Yelp
Usually this place is amazing. That has been completely lost. Not to mention they wouldn't even fix the cake replace it or give a refund. Only giving it one star since I had no other options
google avatar

Lisa R.

Yelp
Bowie Bakery is famous, and both Eric R. and I saw it on the documentary One Square Mile Texas: El Paso, which chronicled the one square mile around the Segundo Barrio. I did not even know Bowie had a west side location, but we were determined to go the location in the documentary (these are shown on Southwest Airlines' free TV series FYI). We made our way to Park Street and walked over to the bakery around 10:30 or 11:00 AM yesterday. There was no line, probably because that happens in the early morning. The lady helping us was very nice, but she was not very descriptive when we asked her what things were. I wanted to try the famous pan dulce. There were 3 kinds, and I wanted to know the difference - she said the yellow was "egg." I got that and a coconut cookie. Eric R. got a HUGE biscuit and a carrot cake cupcake. My m-i-l had told me the cannolis are really good but I thought those were enough for the 2 of us. When it was rung up, the total for all four was $3.55! I am not kidding. I thought it was an error. In any other bakery, that would be the minimum cost for just the cupcake! FOUR items for $3.55??! The cupcake was the most expensive at $1.25, and it was a normal size! The other items were bigger and cost between 50 and 75 cents! The history, the famous pan dulce, and the prices should warrant a stop here for anyone in town.
google avatar

Melina G.

Yelp
Whenever I visit El Paso, making a stop at Bowie's is at the top of my list. I never leave El Paso without stopping in and picking up Pan Dulce. My favorite are the Coconut Cookies... The best I've ever had. That's saying a lot since any pastry with coconut calls my name and can't be refused. The pan dulce is large, twice as big as the bread in other bakeries. It's moist, soft and of course delicious. There are cakes as well. The lines can get pretty long, but the staff is great about moving everyone along. The staff is friendly and attentive to each customer.
