"It’s hard to imagine fast-casual Thai food being done any better than at Bowl Thai, the Gardena staple spot known for extra-spicy soups and traditional noodle dishes." - Kat Thompson, Eater Staff

Google
Absolutely delicious food!! Like being in Thailand again. A bit on the pricey side but pretty standard for los Angeles. About $17 a meal. Pad Thai is always my barometer for the quality of the place and this pad Thai and the curry did not disappoint. Lots of options on the table to add more spice. I especially loved the mini jalapenos! I got a bit of push back packaging my left overs, of which I had plenty. Not sure why it was strange that I wanted 2 containers, 1 for each dish, rather than want to cram them both into the same one and mix all the flavors. In the end, they conceded and I was able to enjoy the dishes the next 2 days!! Highly recommend!!! Fyi, Google maps says the entrance is on Western but you have to go around into the shopping center to find the entrance and the ample parking.

Google
I like Thai food. Pad Thai here is fine, sweet & sour. $16 (after tax) for this plate is quite expensive. With my own taste, I feel like it’s too much sweet for me. I had to drink water to finish the dish. About the restaurant environment, it’s suitable for family, friends outing, having lunch/dinner, but not dating. It was crowded when I came on the weekend

I'm always looking for a new place to try out. This time, we chose thai. Location: in the city of gardena, hidden in a corner shooping center with its entry located through the back. Parking: There is plenty of free parking in their parking structure. Diner: a small simple establishment. With tables located very close to each other. It's over counter service. You order first, then sit down. Service: There really isn't any service. They just take order and take you your food. After that, they dont really follow up or check up. Everything is self-service. Grab your own utensils, plates, water, napkins. Food: we got a mix variety of stuff for the table. We got beef pad-see-yu. 8/10 very flavorful. Yellow curry full of flavor 9/10. Won ton soup was missing something. 7/10 and pineapple fried rice. Not the same without the cashew nut. 6/10. Good portion size, so it's definitely sharable for the table. Price. Each plate avarages around 17 to 20 bucks. In total with drinks came out to 90 bucks. Not bad for 3 people. It's definitely something new to my thai spot list. Would probably come back to try different dishes.

Google
Bowl Thai calls itself a "simple kitchen" and it's in fact a simple kitchen in the best sense possible. Straight forward menu with grilled plates, salads, and some of your classic Thai noodle dishes. We had the satay chicken and marinated chicken thigh grilled to juicy tasty perfection. Grilled plates comes with side salad. I'm not a super spicy eater, so ordering mild up front makes my meal so much more enjoyable. Will definitely go back to try their noodle and 🥗 dishes.

Google
So so delicious! Everything we ordered (pad thai, green curry, mango sticky rice, papaya salad, and chicken/beef satay) was done really well. The drinks here are also very unique and worth trying. Service is good and food came out quickly. Will definitely be back!

Rick Kim

Google
Toned down Thai food for American taste palette but quite good. Would of loved a little more fish sauce, basil and lemongrass added to some of the many dishes we ordered.

Google
Parking is quite easy! Lots of parking spots when youre not in peak hours. Menu is very easy to read and employees are really nice and helpful. Just ask them if you need help for recommendations. Seating inside is spacious as well. The fried rice combo was good! The boat noodles was good too! Overall, food is good and service is excellent.

Google
Very decent Thai spot in a very diverse strip mall. The parking in the back can get real busy so order ahead if you’re picking up. They give you an option of how spicy you want your food which is great. Everything seems fresh. Shrimp fried rice was really yummy and wasn’t too greasy. Chicken Pad See ew was fantastic and tasty. Pineapple curry with rice was good.

Yelp
Located in the inside corner of a busy plaza, there is a parking lot here but it gets full pretty quickly. I believe Bowl Thai is one of three restaurants started by the same owners. Bowl Thai is the original location, and their other two locations, Sweet Rice and Bowl Thai Grill, are just a couple blocks away. I've been to both and they were both fantastic, so I wanted to try out the original Bowl Thai. Like the other two restaurants, Bowl Thai has similar decor with simple and clean furniture. Order first at the counter, then you're given a cup for self-serve water. The self serve station also has napkins and utensils. Then, it's free seating and the food is brought to you, freshly made to order and pretty quickly, I might add. I had the Tom Yumm Soup with chicken (default is medium spicy). It was a huge serving in very large bowl. It came with a bowl of white rice. The flavors were rich and aromatic, a great mixture of beach mushrooms, lemongrass, lime, and chili. I also had their Thai Iced Tea, perfectly creamy and refreshing. The service was great, friendly, fast, and checked on me during the meal to make sure I had everything I needed.

Yelp
A solid Thai spot but not at the top of my favorites list. It's pricier than my favorite Thai place back in NorCal, portion size is a bit smaller, and pad Thai noodles a bit gummier. The atmosphere isn't the most inviting, every menu on the wall says please no substitutions or special requests. While that isn't out of the ordinary for Thai restaurants, it was a bit more than I'm used to seeing. I wanted to give it a try because it was nearby and seemed to have a lot of positive reviews. The inside is very barebones without decorations. Each table has a sauce caddy with four different types of sauces, most of which I could not identify. Plates and utensils are by the water machine, you get those yourself. The food was brought to the table by the cashier. We couldn't decided between pad see ew, pad Thai, or basil fried rice. Usually I like to get my pad Thai with beef but they didn't have that option on the menu so we did chicken instead.

Annie T.

Yelp
I am boat noodles fan and go many thai restaurants to get boat noodles and I always order only meatballs for my noodle souo. But only this place give me only 3 small meatballs. The others Thai usually give me more meatballs instead of beef slices, liver, etc. I paid $15.xx for this bowl. So disappointed! The next door is Boiling point mucch more value with your money.

Shanelle S.

Yelp
Stopped by here for a quick lunch on a Sunday while heading down to Palos Verdes. Split an order of pad thai (I know it's basic but I love pad thai) and it was more than enough for two people. You order/pay at the counter first and then can take a seat. Indoor and outdoor seating available. There's a self-service water spout next to the counter and you can also help yourself to utensils/sauces. The overall vibe is casual. Credit cards accepted. Parking is easy as this place is located in the Tokyo Centre plaza. It's good for big groups as well as kids.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious soups! Had a great experience dining at this small but great location. The place is not going to wow you with its decorations but it has great service and great food! We tried the Boat House Noodle Soup and seafood Hot pot. The broth for the beef soup was rich and deep. It almost had a sweetness to it even though it was pretty spicy. Great combination. And the seafood was sour and spicy, with a great light flavor to it. You've gotta try both of these! The parking situation is not great on weekends because there are several popular restaurants in this place but it's so worth it!!

Sabrina A.

Yelp
I really wanted hand-pulled noodles. I couldn't find a place locally and so I searched for the best pad see ew. Bowl Thai came up on google and I gave it a try. I have tried every Thai restaurant in the South Bay and this is the first place that reminded me of noodles on telegraph street in Berkeley. When I go back I'm going to add extra noodles and egg to it as well. This is now my go to spot for my noodles fix.

Nate T.

Yelp
Now I know I left a review for this establishment years ago but since it says I haven't, here is an update. They are still the small hidden gem surrounded by Japanese restaurants in a food court. Being half Thai, they hit all the authentic notes I remember having in Bangkok. Service was great. The 2 ladies had big smiles even in this California rainstorm. Order at the register, pay, and then get a number to place at your table for dine in. I always go for a soup especially in the cold days. Today had the boat noodle. So delicious! My colleague ordered the chicken pad Thai and said it was one of the better quality dishes from other Thai spots in the area. Everything had generous portions of meat so extra bonus!

Erin T.

Yelp
Discovered this place a few months ago and have been hooked on this place ever since. Their portions are good sizes. Highly recommend the Pad See Ew with beef, Pad Thai with chicken, and the Tom Yum Kai. We tried the Thai Thea and iced Thai Coffee for the first time today, and was not disappointed. Not too sweet, and had the right amount of tea / coffee flavor. Today, we were greeted with 2 friendly ladies up front who made sure that we had all of the sauces & peppers we wanted.

Thao M.

Yelp
Great place to get Thai foods. I love their shrimps pad Thai. The pad Thai seasoned very well and a lot of flavors. The space is not too small since it is in a busy plaza.

Joyce A.

Yelp
No beef today. Pad Thai is great! Located in a busy commercial complex. Food taste excellent. Service is awesome. It's a must try whenever you're in the area. 10-22-2023

Yelp
Amazing pad see ew! They were able to make a vegetable, pad see ew, since I don't eat meat. It is definitely in the top three pad see ews I've ever had. Hubs loved the beef pad see ew. It's perfectly seasoned and not dry like some places. The young staff are very professional and kind. Restroom is clean. I recommend coming during off hours because the parking lot is huge, but super packed, especially at dinner time.

OG R.

Yelp
Easy parking when not busy. Fast and efficient service. Food came out very quickly after ordering. Food was good! I found it funny that a Thai restaurant was blasting Reggaeton.

Darla T.

Yelp
Last time i was there my beef salad was awful. The beef was so stuff and chewy. I could not chew it up. That was a first in all the years I've been going there. I plan to try it again.

Su S.

Yelp
The food here is delicious! We ordered the pineapple curry fried rice with shrimp, pad Thai with shrimp, and crab fried rice. My favorite of the three is the pineapple curry fried rice. It is super savory and has a nice subtle sweetness from the pineapple and raisins. I really recommend it! The service is here is quick. Before you seat yourself, make sure you order. You are expected to grab utensils and dishes for yourselves. Ambiance is relaxed. It can get quite hot inside during summer days despite the portable fans that they have on. It is not usually crowded so there's plenty of seating. Plenty of parking available.

Valeria R.

Yelp
So gross! Discovering the closure due to health code violations and vermin infestation is very disappointing and enough to make my stomach turn.

Yelp
Self service thai, no frills. Order at the front cashier, pay, and sit down. They have water cups, utensils, and plates in the front for you to grab for your food. There's about 12 tables where you can rearrange them depending on your party size. Food was pretty quick to come out, maybe around 10-15 minutes? We asked the cashier how the spice levels are (if it's thai spice or white ppl spice) they couldn't really give an answer so we ordered it very spicy. Very tolerable, not really thai spicy but a bit more spicy than thai restaurants that caters to caucasians. We got thai boat noodles and pad kee mao beef. Both were decent but nothing outta this world. The beef was at least not dry. The staff came by to check on us and see if it was too spicy for us and we said no not really and they pointed to the spice rack. All in all, this place is decent but I'm not sure if i'll be back.

John A.

Yelp
It was just ok. It used to be really good. We ordered to go. The yellow curry is now very watered down and used to be nice and thick. They tofu pad see ew was all struck together and couldn't take the noodles apart, as if it was made 5 hours ago and they just "nuked" it. The boat noodles was pretty good though. Will have to hit up another Thai restaurant next time.

Angie G.

Yelp
Delicious food and good portion sizes. My favorites are the pad see ew and the fried rice. Everything is very flavorful and authentic. Their drink menu is great too

Elizabeth S.

Yelp
Beef salad was delish! Super fresh and bright. Lots of beef (too much imo but I know that's rare). Pick up your own cutlery, but they bring food to the table and bus the table afterwards.

Janey F.

Yelp
I love Bowl Thai for the Basil Stir Fry. But I went yesterday and there was a sign saying that they are closed due to Vermin Infestation dated 4/4/24.

Katrina C.

Yelp
Amazing Thai place in Gardena! I've been here twice and everything I've tasted was delicious. When you enter the restaurant, you go to the counter to order and then choose a table to sit at and they'll bring you your food. Water and utensils are at a self serve counter beside the front counter. Each table also had chilis and some other sauces. It was very bright and felt modern inside. Kana Moo Krob: It was very flavorful and the pork was very crispy. Pineapple Curry Fried Rice: I'm just not a fan of raisins in my fried rice but still really good. It was great leftover too. Pineapple Curry: A good mix of sweet and spicy. Wish it was spicier. Came with a large scoop of white rice which was great to soak up the leftover curry. Pad See Ew: An authentic classic - loved it! This has become my go to Thai place in Gardena! Will definitely be coming back

Arjin L.

Yelp
Parking sucks but service and food was really EXCELLENT. Feeds for two people and is very flavorful. Prices are decent and affordable. I ordered the pad see ew and it wAs was sooo delicious especially adding some chili's on it to make it more spicy. I just wish they ask how spicy we want like other Thai places. Fried rice was honestly soooo good with chicken and shrimp. I added a lul bit of a fish sauce and taste even BETTER. Thai tea coconut was alright tho... wasn't the best. It was missing something which I couldn't figure out! I would come back to this place to eat but I'll stick with water or maybe try a different drink from them next time!

Athena W.

Yelp
Alright I cannot wait to come back to dine in for a meal. We had family photos and need a quick bite to eat on the way home. We got this reco from someone in Denver and knew we had to stop by. I'll keep this short and sweet. Simple, clean, delicious flavors. For the price and portion I think it's so fair. By far my favorite Thai iced tea I've had in a long time. I actually liked their soda the most ! We got the yellow curry, loved it !! I like that you have zero pressure to pick a heat level. It's all predetermined and you cannot adjust. We also got the Tom yum noodle soup DELICIOUS. Calling in for take out was super easy. The staff on the phone was quick, kind and read me back my order. Can't wait to be back !!

Louis P.

Yelp
This is the definition of a great find. Came here for work lunch with co-workers and was super surprised it was so yummy. Never really had anything bad or bland so far. Noodles are yummy, apps were good, and the soup was fire. Ive had the Boat Noodle Soup which has been my go-to since. Pad Sew Ew is good as well. Staff has always been nice, never had anything to complain about when ordering. The vibe feels a little confusing but not complaining at all. Feels half like a homey mom & pops, and half like a rustic spot with open ceilings and exposed vents. I dig the Thai decor tho.

Danielle H.

Yelp
Bowl Thai, Bowl Thai Grill, and Sweet Rice (I believe all are owned by the same owners) are my favorite Thai places in the Gardena/Torrance area. Be careful not to drive to Bowl Thai Grill instead of Bowl Thai when going to meet someone for a meal at one of these places (spoken from experience)! My go-to here is always the yellow curry, it's just so delicious and creamy, the coconut flavor is great and I love how thing the chicken is. It's the perfect consistency for Thai-style curry, and please be aware that if you ask for it to be very mild/no spice it will be a lot more watery. The restaurant is in Tozai plaza, so parking is always a bit crowded but shouldn't be an issue, you just might have to park deeper into the parking lot and walk a little more. Interior of the place is nothing special, just a place to sit and eat. Staff is always very helpful and friendly! Definitely recommend coming here for some good Thai curry!

DSub D.

Yelp
Good spot to get your Thai fix. All the food is good. Service is fast but prices can add up quick. We got 3 items and was over $75! Portions are decent.

Kenneth T.

Yelp
Amazing food, check out the outside patio eating area, large Parking lot & Stores.Great place if you like outdoor eating.

Ernest And Janice J.

Yelp
I went there because I was looking for some Thai food and I I'm not familiar with the area. The restaurant was very clean and the service very fast. I had the Pad Kee Mow which was very good with a medium spice level. I will be back when I'm in the area again.

Alejandra M.

Yelp
Love their food- especially their Tom yum soup- super simple but the broth is deliciously flavorful! Their spicy shaken beef salad is so delicious with the sticky rice. Definitely recommend

Juju A.

Yelp
The beef salad is the best!!! That's the only thing I miss about going to the office, to be close by haha and their seafood soup is still my favorite from any other place I've been to!

Carol G.

Yelp
The food is decent. Pad see ew was cooked well and the meat seemed good quality. Pineapple fried rice was not bad either. But between the high prices, aloof service and uninviting atmosphere of the place, it's not somewhere I would recommend. The area is also very sketchy and attracts a rougher crowd. It's super echoey inside so not a relaxing place. There are better Thai places you should try and not worth going out of your way here.

Nadia R.

Yelp
Food - ordered the pad Thai, Tom yum soup, curry. Very flavorful and good portion Service- ordered food to go, was ready within 30 minutes Ambiance - small place inside, best for pick up

Doree T.

Yelp
My go to Thai food restaurant. The food taste so good and authentic Thai food. My favorite is the crispy pork, eggplant & butternut stir fry, and Basil pork stir fry. Service is good and the dish comes out quickly. Self service ordering system and food are serve to your table. The ambience is good with average noise. Highly recommend this place

Nikia A.

Yelp
Friendly ppl. Good food. Cozy spot. I got the pad Thai with shrimp 10/10. Tom yum noodle soup 10/10 fire. Also good if you are under the weather. Yellow curry with chicken 10/10 as well. Tom yum soup with mushrooms 8:10 too zesty for my liking. Pad see ew with beef 7/10 good but not great. Thai tea amazing 10/10.

Janet L.

Yelp
My girlfriends and I came here after our hike. A disheveled man who seemed unstable kept pacing around outside in circles. He kept staring at us and at one point stood right against the glass right in front of our table and stared us down. He was towering over us, didn't blink and had his nose against the glass. We avoided eye contact and hoped he wouldn't start banging on the glass. He walked away and started pacing back and forth again. The girls and I resumed our meal but kept a cautionary eye out. Within minutes, the man ran into the restaurant and was about to storm towards us. The waiter quickly jumped between the man and our table and refused to let him pass. The man kept trying to get pass him to get to us but the waiter stood his ground and told him he had to leave in a very calm manner. The man eventually left. Thank you to the waiter who who jumped to action to ensure his customers felt safe and comfortable. Aside from the incident, the food was superb. The tom yum and pad see ew were delicious! I appreciated how the noodles were not too gummy as some restaurants do them so they weren't stuck together. Everything was amazing.

Sheila W.

Yelp
This is my favorite place for curry dish. I've been here twice before for other dishes and the food was good. The service is great and friendly. When I walk in, I am greeted with yummy smells. The place has room to eat but I get mines to go. It's located between other Thai spots. There's plenty of parking since it's at a strip mall nearby my market. I will be back.

Alondra P.

Yelp
I've been here for years and loved the food. However, my experience today has put me off. I ordered over the phone as I normally do, and picked up my food to take home. I didn't realize they got my order wrong until I got home. I called and they told me to bring back the incorrect item and they would remake my food. I live 20 min away, but I was willing to go back for the correct order since that is what I was craving (I'm 25 weeks pregnant). I drove all the way back and took my order home which is when I realized that my order had significantly less meat than I usually get and the rest is all rice. On top of the inconvenience of having to drive back to the restaurant because of their mistake (40 minutes total), I am also given less meat which is insulting.

Bryan S.

Yelp
My Wife & I used to love Bowl Thai when we moved to the South Bay. We considered it a hidden hole in the wall. But over time they removed some items and increased prices. Our general go to item was the Pad See Ew - Beef & a Tom Yum Soup. On various to go orders we had to stop ordering the soup because the container they used would spill. Im not sure if they ever fixed the to go soup issue.. They then stopped carrying our preferred chili oil. And the last time we ordered Pad See Ew it seemed very over done/over cooked/reheated. The noodles and beef were charred and dry. -they did offer to remake or a discount on our next order. It is unfortunate to leave this review as it used to be our favorite Thai Food Spot.

Jay B.

Yelp
So, I was so hungry that I forgot to take pictures...however, I really enjoyed the Shrimp Pad Thai noodles...I had stopped in here the night before and ordered Crab Fried Rice...don't recommend...BUT, my sister told me that Thai is good for noodles & she was right...glad I listened to her because was second visit was really good

Sonia C.

Yelp
All great here: food, customer service, and cleanliness. Only con is they do not offer their service via any delivery apps.

Ravinder A.

Yelp
So yum !! The crispy pork , pad Thai , pad see ew are all delish !! Definitely coming back !

Lindsey D.

Yelp
Had a craving for Thai food so found Bowl Thai on Yelp. Dined here on a Sunday during lunch time. The restaurant was half full and started getting more busy after I ordered. The service was quick; food took about 10 minutes to come out. I tried the wonton soup and pad woon den with tofu. Both dishes included a variety of vegetables which I enjoyed. Flavor was also on point. Will definitely be back to try more of their menu.

Kevin T.

Yelp
Definitely a hole in a wall place and you can tell it's a small family own business which is nice. You would order first and then seat down at a table where they will bring out the food. The prices is reasonable and but I felt like the portion is on the smaller side. I ordered the typical pad thai, pad se ew, and some tom yum soup which was all delicious. I got a mix of pork, chicken, and beef. Parking can be a pain in the butt since they share the plaza with so many other places so be warned. I would come back here if I was in the area again!

PurpleGrass P.

Yelp
The food quality degraded lots since we last went. The fried egg on top of some dishes used to be freshly made with crisp edges and runny yolk. Now it's premade and COLD. Thai restaurants need to have good rice but this place now serves regular long grain, no jasmine taste whatsoever and rice seems like day old rice. Radna seems to be the only dish that's still good. Very disappointed.

Michael R.

Yelp
Food: pad seew was good and the papaya salad Ambiance: quick and casual Service: everyone was nice Good spot if you don't want to wait in line for the other spots!! And very casual

Sandra N.

Yelp
Love everything from this place!! So delicious Employee are super friendly, they know me by name. My kids and I are always there!

Jack C.

Yelp
Best Thai food in the Southbay. Hands down. Reminds me of of some of the places we ate in Thailand.

Rick V.

Yelp
Good authentic Thai joints are hard to find outside of Hollywood and the Valley. Ordered nam tok beef, tom yum chicken, and green curry chicken. Asked for both nam tok and tom yum be Thai spicy. Both lacked the expected mouth numbing, make you cough level of heat but still had so much depth and flavor. Not a curry guy. I just can't get past meat cooked with coconut milk. I'll admit I don't appreciate it as much as the next person lol but was told it was pretty good. Overall, dishes were a solid 3.5 stars. Would try other spots before coming back.

Erika B.

Yelp
Love their spicy sea food soup good costumer service. Nice place to bring family and friends..
