The Indoor Day Drinking Guide

"Imagine what the queue for a Disneyland seaplane adventure ride might look like, and you’ll probably be picturing something like Bar Charlie. It’s a neighborhood spot with knotted rope light bulbs hanging from the ceiling, a plane propellor anchored behind the bar, and map schematics on the walls. The drinks, which range from an old fashioned with apple brandy and mole bitters to a lemon gin cocktail with rhubarb, are excellent, and the food’s impressive, too. Get the twice-baked loaded poutine potato covered in melted cheese curds, gravy, chives, and bacon." - aimee rizzo

I moved back to Seattle from Portland last March after my mother was diagnosed with ALS. When I found the Bowman Apartments, I knew I had found the perfect place—not only did it have everything I needed, but it was also close to my mother’s home. Anna Lisa in the office went above and beyond to get me into my unit in record time, making sure I was settled in just in time to celebrate my mother’s birthday on St. Patrick’s Day. That level of care meant the world to me. The building itself is beautifully designed and solidly built, with apartments that serve as the perfect blank canvas to match any style. Between caring for my mother, working, and coming home to Bowman, having everything I needed in one place made all the difference. The amenities here are fantastic—there’s a cardio room, weight room, office space with a printer, media room, podcast room, and beautiful common areas. And with the ongoing renovations, they’re only getting better—the updates so far look absolutely stunning. I’ve always felt completely safe and secure here, which has given me real peace of mind. Yes, it’s on the pricier side, but I can confidently say I got what I paid for. The real standout, though, is the staff. The building managers are not only caring and thorough but truly committed to making this community feel like home. Any issue I had was handled promptly, and they always went the extra mile to ensure residents were happy. My mother passed away this year, and I moved back to her estate this March. It has been an incredibly difficult year, but I honestly don’t know what I would have done without the Bowman Apartments being there for me every step of the way. It’s more than just a place to live—it’s a place that offers comfort, support, and a true sense of home.

Bowman is a great place. I lived there for almost 5 years. From beginning to end, my experience was nothing but positive. The apartments are very nice. The complex is well maintained. There are tons of amenities and probably one of the best rooftop decks in Seattle. The community is very respectful of their neighbors and of the property. The staff at Bowman go above and beyond expectations. Annalisa and Michael are amazing! Living at Bowman was a great experience. I highly recommend it.

Google
Lived at Bowman for the past two years, and it was an amazing experience! The leasing office was always on top of any need or concern I had and they were so friendly and nice. The amenities in the building were great and well kept. Bowman was a great home for me in Seattle, will say I will miss it dearly. Definitely recommend living here!!!

Google
Best place I’ve ever lived in; not because the actual apartment or price, but the staff is so genuine and helpful that it really makes a huge difference. My only nit is that I wish their landscaping crew used electric blowers. The gas ones are very loud (resonates in the court yard), and if I forget to close the window before I leave, there’s a good chance the apartment will smell like gas fumes until night time.

Google
reluctantly left this complex after 2.5 years living there, and the only reason i left was to try to spend less $$ on rent. i have nothing but good things to say about the Bowman. management was amazing, the building was always clean and in great shape, all the neighbors were lovely. amenities are wonderful too (great rooftop and you can rent an air conditioning unit in the summer if it gets too hot!). if you have a dog, the dog run and wash station are such perks. maintenance is fast and mgmt goes the extra mile to take care of their residents - i always felt cared about/heard if i needed help with anything. definitely recommend!

Google
Fantastic management team. I stayed here for a year and they worked with me to make sure I found a parking space that could fit my car. Beautiful courtyard and spectacular rooftop. Really good people who run the place.

Google
Bowman is a wonderful place to live in the Fremont neighborhood. The staff are especially fantastic, they helped make the move-in process easy and have always been attentive to any questions or requests. The building is well-located and clean, and the amenities are a nice bonus as well! Overall I would recommend this building to anyone looking for apartments in the Fremont area

Google
Just visited to tour and Don was very helpful. He provided a lot of transparent advice and showed knowledge on all of the units we toured! Amenities were cool & parking is cheap compared to other apartments. (I do not live in this complex)

Yelp
My boyfriend and I lived here for a year and we LOVED it. The rooftop is beautiful, the location is great, and the management is always very accessible. Annalisa is very friendly, transparent, and kind. The move in and move out processes were both seamless. I've always felt like apartment buildings steal your security deposit for very little reason, but at Bowman we worked hard to clean the place up and yet we were still surprised when we got our full deposit back! It was so refreshing. The package lockers are easy to use, so we never had any issues with that. We don't have a car or bike so can't talk to any of those features. Overall, we loved our stay at Bowman. The only reason we left is to live closer to friends, but if we could convince them to move to Fremont we'd be back at Bowman!

Yelp
Great location, great amenities, SUPER dog friendly, and managed by a wonderful group of people. I am happy to say that this is the longest I have lived at an apartment. It feels like home. The staff are great people, very skilled, and do a great job managing the building. Love living here!

Yelp
I'm sad to update my review once more with an updated reflection of how things have been at Bowman. My pros remain the same - great location, amenities are generally on par with other "luxury" buildings in Seattle (gym, rec room, BBQ, beautiful roof, and they recently added an Amazon Hub package locker, though this gets filled up fast). They have also responded to the majority of my maintenance requests quite quickly - including my kitchen sink, which was not properly installed and fell out of the hole! However, my list of cons have grown significantly since I last wrote a review. * The sheer number of thefts and security breaches that have been posted on the resident FB group, especially in the building's private garage, is startling. In the past week, a motorcycle has been stolen from the garage, an Audi has been broken into with its back window smashed, and a storage locker was broken into with bikes stolen out of it. These are not made up scenarios - picture evidence has been posted with each occurrence. * I had a noisy neighbor for several years who would leave her dog at home during the hot summer months when everyone had their balcony doors open. The dog would bark incessantly overnight, and when she WAS home she'd play music extremely loudly on her Amazon Alexa, asking it to play music at 2AM (so loudly that my Alexa in my apartment would register it!). I was not the only one affected by this neighbor as there were multiple nights where I saw 3 other neighbors sticking their heads out of their balconies, asking one another who was making the noise. I submitted numerous noise complaints to the front office but they were never addressed. I later learned this neighbor was friends with some of the front desk staff. * We had a great 4th of July our first year here (2016), but in 2017 and 2018 the building prohibited personal alcohol on the roof at 2 pm, and past then residents were required to buy wine and beer from Bar Charlie (the bar downstairs) who had set up a station up on the roof. Extremely overpriced and ridiculous given we live in the building. We were also limited to 2 guest wristbands per apartment - making it difficult to make use of such a great rooftop space. Who celebrates the 4th with just two other people? Given the high price tag of this building, I can't say I recommend living in Bowman until these issues gets sorted out, which is a shame because I had such a great experience during my first year here.

Yelp
To provide some context, I have lived in various apartment complexes both around Seattle and in different parts of the country. However, I decided to finally make an upgrade in my life and try living at a nicer and newer complex with amenities and all that jazz. I've toured most of the big complexes in the Fremont/Wallingford area and I really think Bowman stands out the most. I've been living here for about 14 months now and I have had a fantastic experience overall! The location is amazing with easy access to bars, restaurants, etc. The building and the units themselves are beautiful and the roof is especially nice. The management and staff have all been extremely kind and helpful to me and I feel bad that they are typically the targets of angry mob mentalities from tenants that demand a bit too much. Sometimes their hands are tied and they are a bit overworked, but it seems like they're doing the best that they can. Regarding safety, I can only speak to my experiences but this is by far the safest place I have ever lived. Yes there been thefts from the parking garage, but that happens in every single place around here. Objectively, it's brightly lit and is in a nice part of town surrounded by yuppies and young techies that make way too much money for their own good. Management is doing what they can to beef up security measures even more but they have a tough job. My main complaint is the lack of a real community feel at the complex. Maybe it's a Seattle thing. The only thing people really come together on is bickering and complaining. The roof could also use a firepit. Nonetheless, the location and the building itself are unbeatable and more than make up for any shortcomings.

Yelp
Arrived to tour apartments with a service animal January 15 at 12pm. The smug leasing agent informed us that service animals were not permitted in the building. Informed him that he was violating Title II and Title III of the ADA. To which he said too bad. I suggest upper management fire this guy before he costs them $ in a lawsuit. 10/10 would not recommend.

Yelp
The staff and management was always very nice and helpful. The building is beautiful, well maintained and the location is perfect. I really enjoyed the time that I spent here.

Yelp
Update- Finishing my second year, and can report this remains a great place to live. The staff is responsive, the place continues to be extremely well maintained (many of the staff reside here), and although there has been some management changes, the transition was/has been very smooth, and the newer staff continue to uphold the responsive and cordial atmosphere. The building has commercial tenants in all but one unit, and I'm hoping for a cafe to be the next. In the two years, Stone Way has expanded in both housing and businesses. The Art of the Table, a little place that was just up the street, now occupies the corner spot, and offers an excellent dining experience. As the neighborhood continues to grow, finding street parking seems more difficult. From day one I took a spot in the garage, and ever so happy I did. IMO this is a must especially if you have a car :-) And did I mention the place is a landmark of architectural detail, and remains, what I consider the most attractive visually. Other tenants are considerate, and the construction seems to squash any excessive noise, and yes, I'm not paid for this great review.

Yelp
I've recently had to move out of the Bowman and found someone to take over my lease and they made the process go so smoothly! They were very accommodating and the staff/manager is extremely helpful and attentive. Many of the other reviews don't note that the best thing about the Bowman is the stellar view you get of the whole Seattle skyline from the amazing rooftop deck that's stretches almost the entire footprint of the building. I would definitely recommend living here!

Yelp
I recently started my 2nd lease with this place and have really enjoyed living here! The staff has always been friendly and responsive to anything I bring up. I haven't had to wait any longer than a day for something to be taken care of. The amenities are amazing! I have a high energy dog so being able to take her out to one of the largest (or even the largest) dog run in Seattle has been a great benefit. Free access to the onsite gym, and also hosting board game nights in the game room have been extremely useful! Also you cannot beat the rooftop view. I have never heard a sound from my next door neighbors. The area is extremely walkable to restaurants and bars. I have no complaints about living here thus far, and will most likely be signing another lease at the end of this one as long as I still live in this city! Highly recommended!

Yelp
The first few months were great. I still think this is the perfect location and I do like the employees we have left, but there are a ton of issues that I've only seen get worse over the last year and a half. 1. THE NOISE. God, it is so loud and it is non-stop. The noise from people walking normally is outrageous on every level of this building. I get the added bonus of living under the roof deck, which people are free to turn into a daycare, dog park, party palace, or a cornhole tourney location at any time of day or night. 2. Dogs poop! We must have at least 100 dogs living here now, and not one place to throw their poop except for on the roof, convenient for exactly no one. 3. People smoke. People that live here and those that work at and visit the bar and restaurant in the building all have to throw their cigarette butts in the bushes. Poop bins could serve double-duty here. 4. The elevators are about as fast as walking up five flights of stairs. I know because I get treated to the stairs quite often, whenever the elevators are either out of service or my fob just won't work. 5. The garage doors stay open for about two minutes after each car and it makes no sense. I'm not saying that's why we get so many break-ins, but it certainly doesn't help. 6. The ALL DAY alarm testing! This time it's spread over two days! I have dogs so I can't leave them and have to miss work every time they do this. I have never lived in a building that does this. Repeatedly, no less! 7. The office used to be open regular hours, and now it's sporadic. I think we had two managers initially and now we're down to zero. I'm glad they get to have such flexible schedules, but sometimes you just need to pick something up or get something done.

Yelp
This place is awesome, end of story. The move in was stress free and there weren't any snags with the place being ready on time. I've been living here for a few months now and am very satisfied with my decision. Maintenance requests are quickly knocked out, the complex is consistently clean, the staff is top notch, and there aren't any surprises in your monthly rent statement. If noise is an issue, get some headphones or don't move into the city/next to a bar...it's really not even that bad.

Vaidy K.

Yelp
I live here. Decent apartment, but expensive given that it's gotten pretty unsafe to live here. If you have a nice car stay away. It'll most likely get broken into, if not stolen. Nice amenities but they need to fix security. Management has been inept and has taken no action.

Sophie C.

Yelp
Moved in less than 2 months ago and have no complaints so far. The move in process was ridiculously smooth: we walked in without an appointment, Amber gave us a tour, and we started moving in 24 hours later. Appliances in the apt are brand new. Our kitchen has plenty of storage space. The amenities are great. There are 2 gyms, a gaming room, a theatre room, 3 outside grills, and the roof deck is to die for with views of downtown Seattle and Mt. Rainier (when it's not cloudy). I'm sure it will be even better in the summer. Overall, this is a great place to live. Staff is nice and helpful. Would recommend to anyone looking for an apt!

Yelp
I have been living here for almost 2 years now, and am moving out in a couple days. For my husband and I, this was a negative-leaning experience. Having a brand new home with great amenities was fantastic. We never had problems with anything in our apartment. The roof has an absolutely stunning view, the recreational area downstairs is such a great thing to have. Easily one of my favorite things in this complex is the split gym, one being a cardio room, other a fitness room, both of which having a pretty great variety of equipment for an apartment. This all unfortunately doesn't outweigh the cons of our experience here. Water has been shut off building wide without warning. If you have a courtyard facing apartment, you will hear everything and anything going on in the area, including the bar by the entrance. Related to the bar, on the 4th of July, the building cut off alcohol on the roof at 2 pm, and past then, you were required to buy alcohol from said bar that had their own station up there. Most neighbors enjoy partying, so be aware you will hear them quite often. Not at the fault of the staff, my neighbors weren't the best dog owners, and could hear their dogs going crazy for 8-12 hours on weekdays. Be prepared to struggle with street parking or pay three digits for the garage (which does get broken into). Fire alarms will go off randomly, and they're the loudest alarms I've ever heard. When they do testing, they ask everyone and their pets leave for 8 hours for 2-3 days straight, and trust me you'll want to with that noise. The elevators are hilariously slow for a 2 year old building. The one thing I did not appreciate the most was hearing racially insensitive comments from staff, whether it be phone calls to maintenance workers or joking about names. There will always be something wrong with any home you have, but if you are looking for a quiet home, I would look elsewhere. If you enjoy going out and having parties, this 100% is the right home for you if you can handle the other comments mentioned above.

Carrie W.

Yelp
This apartment is poorly ran by the office staff. Multiple break in after break in and the office staff doesn't do anything. I don't feel safe in this apartment at all.

Stephen G.

Yelp
This is a new building and they were definitely experiencing some growing pains when I first moved in. That said, there have been some significant improvements and the staff are really friendly and seem to have a good grasp of the building now. The building is beautiful and the amenities are awesome (2 gyms, movie theater, game rooms, tv room, and amazing roof). I really enjoy living here. My only real issue is with some of the residents. Most are really friendly, but like any rental, people don't always respect the property. I regularly smell cigarette smoke (it's a non smoking building), and people like to listen to loud music with their windows and doors open, which can get old. But I'm still a happy camper here and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to a friend. Also, the location is second to none.

Rachel G.

Yelp
I've lived at the Bowman for a year and I love it- just signed for another 15 months! The building and apartments are beautiful and I've never lived in a place with such great amenities (the roof with the view, a fenced-in dog run, a dog washing station, fitness center, theater room- the list goes on!). The staff has always been extremely attentive and helpful whenever I've needed anything and has worked quickly to resolve any issues. The only ongoing issue I've had is occasional noise from the roof, which I can hear from my top floor apartment. That doesn't happen often or for very long, so it doesn't really bother me. I've had a great experience here so far and am looking forward to another year!

Carrie R.

Yelp
I do not feel safe here at all. I avoid going to my car in the garage that I pay extra extra security for because I am afraid of getting mugged. There are constant break-ins, and management does nothing to try to help or fix this issue. I do love the apartment itself, so its a shame that the management style is ruining it for residents.

Iffie C.

Yelp
I recently moved out of Bowman Stoneway after living there for 15 months. I'll start with the positives. The building itself it designed really well. The lounge areas are all really functional and it's nice that the cardio gym and the weight lifting gym are separated; even though the gym areas are very large, the separation keeps them from getting too crowded. The location is great. The reason that I'm rating it this way is because of how requests/ questions I had for the leasing/managing staff was handled through my stay. Some of the staff seems to be extremely inconvenienced by what I thought were run of the mill requests- like asking if I had any packages delivered (before there was a locker hub), asking questions about my bills or checking on maintenance requests. It made me pretty uncomfortable so I switched over to using the online system whenever I could. This was mostly fine for maintenance requests because they generally left a note in the apartment that the request had been handled if you weren't home. But it was a little annoying when it came to requests for the leasing office. I had some issues with my billing being inaccurate so I emailed them about it. I would never get confirmations or updates on whether the issues had been taken care of so I would just have to keep checking the online statements to see if they were updated. Beyond that, some issues were not even taken care of- maybe they didn't think they were a big deal. I noticed my name was misspelled on the online portal and I made the leasing office aware of it. I reminded them of this a couple of times in the first couple of months I lived there but it was never changed. I recently got the security deposit back and my name was still misspelled lol. The name on the mailbox wasn't updated even a month after I moved in so I did it myself. The locker hub was only installed in the last month I lived there so I can't comment on how the package system is now but while I was there it was pretty disorganized. There were several times I would get notifications from UPS that my package was delivered and I would go ask the leasing office and they didn't see it. This happened a couple of times even when I would wait until the next day. The dog poop bin on the roof was constantly over filled, which was pretty unpleasant if you were upwind working in the pea-pod area. The stairwell I mainly used was carpeted and often had an unpleasant smell; I think the cleaning schedule could be adjusted. The apartment itself had some flaws as well. My apartment had really high lovely ceilings but there was only one tiny heater to heat the whole apartment. Also, their open one bedrooms don't have any sort of divider like sliding doors which I originally didn't think would be a big deal but was pretty annoying if you ever had guests crashing with you. The chalk wall seems like a nice feature but is really difficult to clean. I'm giving them 3 but I really think they deserve a 2.5 but I can't do that on yelp. Also, I don't know if other tenants' interactions with the leasing office were similar so I don't know if this is wide spread problem.

Alex S.

Yelp
I moved into the Bowman the 1st month after it first opened and since then have been blown away by my treatment. The building has great amenities, nice and new appliances, wonderful staff, good proximity to work, via bus routes, and walking distance to the awesome restaurants in Fremont. Christen was especially helpful in providing me with information about the building, scheduling me to do the touring, and getting me acclimated to the Seattle area. The service of the staff is superb and her professionalism was the key reason why I chose to move into the Bowman when it came time to make my final decision. When moving to Seattle, one can easily get overwhelmed by the choices in housing it has to offer and looking back now, I couldn't be happier about the decision I made.

Chris S.

Yelp
Moved in a week ago and things couldn't have gone smoother. The leasing office was incredibly helpful with everything from paperwork to a great walk through and the actual move in itself. The complex is awesome with so many great communal rooms, including a theater room, 2 gyms, sports lounge with shuffleboard and a game room. Only been here for one week and I already feel at home. Definitely recommend taking a look and scheduling a tour!

Victor E.

Yelp
I moved to the Bowman in October, and I'm glad to live here. The apartment is as advertised. The location is walking distance to Fremont and Wallingford, pretty quiet, and accessible via bus to downtown. The building is new, and the amenities are in good condition. The staff is responsive and helpful.

Yelp
I have lived at the Bowman for four months now, and I can say that the standards this complex upholds are beyond exceptional and I thought it was due time to write this review. Having had to manage and comply with rentals in previous works and living situations, the staff here at Bowman Apartments go above and beyond when it comes to making sure that any issues that I have with things such as a noisy neighbor or a maintenance complication are resolved right away. For example, the other week our washing machine broke down and we were in urgent need of getting our clothes fully washed and dried for the upcoming work week. After meeting with the staff down stairs I was informed that the head of maintenance was on vacation and would not be back until the upcoming Monday to take care of the problem. Although, right after being told this news the staff was quick to find a temporary solution and handed me the keys to an unoccupied apartment down the hall where we could use that washer and dryer until they could fix ours. Needless to say, and I'm sure many other occupants at this complex can attest to this as well, is that the staff here is outstanding and that is a rare thing to find as they care for you not only as a occupant in their complex, but as a friend one could well say. If you are in need of a fresh start when finding an apartment with great amenities and stellar staff I would highly recommend stopping in to take a tour of Bowman Apartments.
