This light, spacious shop has a great selection of designer clothes and accessories. The range is well-chosen, with eye-catching yet wearable pieces—like some beautiful green velvet MaxMara trousers. And a gorgeous mauve coat. The owners know the collection inside out and clearly enjoy selecting each piece. Their knowledge made a real difference when I needed an outfit for a formal occasion—they quickly found the right dress, saving me a lot of time and effort. My only regret is not trying on more of the lovely clothes. The changing rooms are spacious, and the overall atmosphere is welcoming. I’ll definitely be back.

Bowns is the most brilliant shop in Britain. Certainly Cambridge is so lucky to have a chic boutique run by someone with a genius for what is right for any woman who wants to stay in touch with contemporary fashion - for all ages, from not just here in the UK (Vivienne Westwood, Paul Smith) but German and Italian clothes Schummacher and MaxMara and French brands like Paule Ka, Hartford - (exceptional value and great style) - I've been in their own Parisian shop and the range there is only just short of Bowns' own. Yes Bowns does 'special occasion' but if you want to look up to date ,not over or under dressed and simply stylish, on an everyday gorgeous heart lifting basis, make the pilgrimage to Cambridge's Magdalene Street . I was the first person to walk through the door when the shop opened and recorded a radio interview with the owner against a raucous background of joyous well wishers.Today my wardrobe is entirely Bowns -based, along with my fashion journalist daughters' .

This shop is a rare, precious thing in modern retail: a sanctuary of advice, styling tips, beautiful pieces made well and made to keep for life. The staff are super helpful and lovely.
