Just beautiful. Outdoor seating is available too which you will see as you walk to the welcoming front door. Wonderful experience. My friend and I did the cave experience for my Bday. You’re surrounded by barrels of wine. Ps. A tad chilly in there. Bring a light sweater or jacket, if you get cold easily! The charcuterie board is a MUST! We both were WOW’d by the mango and ginger cheese!! Yummmmy. I gotta find me some back home! The wines were amazing and just so you know, they have nice big glasses and quite generous pours. Honestly, enjoyed all the wines. The service was wonderful too from the moment we walked in until we left. We bought a bottle of the Cupola too! I’d come back in a heartbeat!

Wow! I wasn’t sure what to expect from this place. When I got there, I thought it was gonna be kind of pretentious. My friend and I did a tasting in the barrel room, and I thought that was gonna be pretentious. However, it was amazing. Mark did our tasting and he was so knowledgeable and so friendly and so informative and didn’t rush us. The wines were amazing. There was not one I did not like. My friend loved the Sauvignon Blanc. We ended up sharing a bottle of the Boxwood which was so delicious. We got to talk to Erin and Susan and they were great. I did not expect the amazing service we got from this place. It’s a definite must check out.

We had an amazing experience! We were warmly welcomed by Carolyn and then did the Estate Wine Tasting in the beautiful barrel cave room. Ryan masterfully took us through each wine and food pairing (all delicious!) and Jeff provided wonderful customer service, including helping us pick out additional tastings to figure out what we’d buy (so many excellent options). Thanks for such a special time from start to finish! Highly recommended

Boxwood Estate Winery made my friend’s 60th birthday so special. We first tried the wine at The Red Fox Inn, loved it, and decided to visit the winery — so glad we did. Hannah, Ryan, Mark, and Steven were fantastic and truly went out of their way to make the experience memorable. The winery is beautiful, the wines are excellent, and the whole setting feels relaxed and welcoming. Even the drive there is part of the fun — the scenery is gorgeous and makes it feel like a mini getaway. Such a great place to celebrate and spend the day.

Had a great tasting here. We did the wine + cheese and charcuterie board tasting. Each wine was unique and they had a good selection of whites, a rose and reds that all paired perfectly with their cheese selection. I really liked the trellis. After we had the chance to check out the actual site and see the cave where you can do a tasting. Looks super romantic!

My wife and our friends came here on whim today. I don’t know a lot about wine but I know good service. From the moment we arrived, the entire staff was so helpful, friendly and accommodating. I didn’t catch all their names but Carolyn and Marcus, in particular, were phenomenal. They took the time to welcome us and talked with us for a while, not only about the wine. Bonus points for Marcus for tipping me off to a local bourbon drop. I had the Cupola white wine. Crisp, refreshing, and very tasty! At the end our visit we got speak with the Assistant wine maker, Rebecca, who was also a delight! Very sweet and knowledgeable. Her passion for wine was as bright as the Cupola.

Each fall/spring, a big group of gals goes on a winery tour. This was our first time at Boxwood and we had a fabulous time. It’s some of the best Virginia wine we’ve ever had. A great outdoor atmosphere, beautiful space and setting. Plenty of room for groups, good food, and excellent service. We plan to return for our next tour!

We had the opportunity to do the estate pairing this labor day weekend! Mark was hosting the pairing and he was very accommodating and knowledgeable on the wines, made the experience very pleasurable. So much fun! Definitely recommend and will be returning :))

Mark is a fantastic host and would 10/10 recommend an afternoon tasting here any day. Friendly, incredible views, great wine, what else could you wan? If you are caught wine tasting during the day and wind up here, rest assured, their kitchen will take care of you. Beautiful, delectable and a gem of Virginia. Ask for Mark, you'll be grateful.

Mark was amazing! He took care of our group of 10 for a group tasting. The wine is amazing and the environment is so quintessential Virginia. Highly recommend!

Great visit on a hot Sunday, we were impressed by the fair prices and the gorgeous vineyards which made you feel like you were in California. There is some indoor seating and a unique chance to pay to sit in the cave area too. The staff was super friendly and helpful and gave great food recommendations. We really enjoyed the grape leaves, spicy arincini with spicy queso dip, and the sandwiches. We did a wine tasting of the light wines and then took a walk with a glass to the gorgeous outdoor terrace tucked away in the grapes. Great spot- no dogs or kids but amazing onsite food and service!

The charcuterie board is very well done with the gazebo being a great place to enjoy your time while there in the vineyards. Overall the wine was good with the venue being to modern for my personal taste. Only downside is that they are not dog friendly even if you plan on staying outside and enjoying the weather.

We had a great time here. I wish I had called to see if it was possible to extend our reservation because coming in at 11 am, we were the only party there. The wine was great, our server Marcus was awesome, and the sandwiches a few of us got were solid. A little annoying that they were charging for water, but the complementary tour they offered made up for it. Will definitely be back!

Found this winery randomly on yelp, google and Instagram! Got my girls together and we decided to do a brunch board in the cave for our Sunday funday. We got 6 tastings a mix of white and red, our assorted brunch board (cheese, meats, cinnamon rolls, quiche, croissants, fruits, nuts and chocolates). I wish the quiche and croissants were warmed up. We were also under the impression that we would each get our own brunch board but that sadly wasn't the space. The brunch board was perfect for 2 people to split but for 3 it would've been nice to have more. All the wines were delicious. George gave us a great impromptu tour on our way out and JP was friendly and accommodating!

We went on a rainy day. As a result, we needed to sit inside. This was the single most awkward tasting room that I've ever been to. The hostess stand is in the middle of a tiny room, and is surrounded by just four extremely small tables. The individual that helped us was not friendly or inviting. The wine was mediocre at best. The charcuterie board was solid, and took up most of the table. The manager, Mark, was very nice. He shared some information on the winery prior to us leaving. Overall, this isn't a place that I'd return to. Much better options in the area.

We loved our experience here! Michael was the best. Super kind and helpful. Ryan was great too. It was a beautiful building. We cannot wait to go back and do a wine tasting in the cave!

I made a same day reservation here on a Saturday as I was in the area with a friend for around 2:30 PM. By the it was starting to rain and folks that were sitting outside were encouraged to sit inside and continue to enjoy their wine. We were able to get a seating for two inside and the hostess was very friendly. She walked us through the different wine pairings and foods that we could order. We ordered a flight of wines and a charcuterie board. All were tasty and the scenery around the winery was pleasant. The winery was packed and more groups were coming in as we left! I enjoyed their red wine flights and their snacks were freshly made.

We had the most amazing time at Boxwood! We did the cave tasting and Mark was great and answered all our questions. Highly recommend a visit. Great wine and great people out here at Boxwood!

I really enjoy coming to this winery. That staff are always friendly and informative of the wines they have. They started off as a reds only winery but now have a few white wines as well. It's a beautiful location that has a nice space in the vineyards to sit as well during the summer.

We did the Cave Wine Tasting Experience and exceeding our expectations. Our server Ryan Edwards, was knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and incredibly welcoming. The venue is gorgeous. Sipping delicious wines at our own pace, paired with a delightful charcuterie board, in the perfect ambiance, hands down... incredible time.

So sorry we missed Sean but the Cupid Cave Event was a hit Lisa and Sydney were so nice and explained all the wines and pairings. Extremely clean winery. Very nice ambiance. Cave is more of a cave barrel room. Wines were very nice. I enjoyed the Chardonnay the best which is surprising. I am more of a red gal. No chewy wines. That is usual in VA but still will be on the hunt for a great red, aged, with sediment. Tables were set up with care and spacing was nice. No conversations overheard while enjoying our pairings. Fine chocolates and coquettes to pair. Nice. Being me I purchased a charcuterie board. Friends ordered a bottle to drink and was lovely. We received roses and chocolates to take home. Beautiful presentation and of course, with the best VA wines we have had so far, we will be back soon. The winery will be great to explore in the spring when weather will be friendly Thank you ladies for making my anniversary a special time!

My mom and I visited Boxwood Estate Winery to celebrate her birthday and had an excellent time! Ryan and Mark provided exceptional customer service and really helped to make my Mom's birthday special. We enjoyed the celebration experience and loved all of the wines in the tasting. Mark was accommodating and lovely. The wine was delicious, the food even better!! We were welcomed inside, which was very personal and nice, and outside to appreciate the views. Highly recommend!!!

I made a reservation ahead of time. Upon arriving it was a small building but was pleasantly surprised at how modern the interior was. We did both the light sips and red blends flights to figure out what bottle to enjoy. The light sips were Sauvignon Blanc 2018, Sauvignon Blanc 2019, Rose 2019 and Trellis 2018. The red blends were Trellis 2018, Trellis 2016, Topiary 2017 and Topiary 2016. We opted to get a bottle of the Trellis 2016 which is 57% Cabernet Franc, 21% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Petit Verdot and 10% Merlot. This was fairly dry and full bodied. As the bottle sat, I was disappointed that the taste wasn't as good as when we first opened the bottle. We each had a glass, corked it and headed to our bed and breakfast. I probably would not come back given that there are so many wineries in Virginia. Out of the 4 wineries in Middleburg we visited, this one was 2nd or 3rd place.

I read a lot about this winery and some reviews good, some negative. One thing I noticed is the wine prices that I had seen were much cheaper than competitors on the trail. Price isn't everything but it intrigued me. We pulled up and the building from a far was one of the more unique places that I've visited before. One suggestion is the entrance into the facility is a bit confusing. More signs should be provided for those who do not know where to go. When we arrived, they asked if we had reservations and which we didn't. I looked around a they had some "snooty" customers that turned us off. They were able to get us a table without a wait. We shared a tasting and the wines were okay, but the Cab Franc Rose was one of the better Rose's I've had previously. The place didn't appear to have much room for sitting inside unless you sat outside. I look forward to trying the place in a longer visit the next time around. I had know idea until afterwards that the former Washington Football Team owner is the owner of this vineyard, that was cool to know, me being a HUGE NFL fan and season ticket holder of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Attractive entrance. Carolyn ( manager) was extremely welcoming and informative. We did the cave tasting with charcuterie board. Michael did a fine job of serving us and keeping the 1 hour time frame without making us feeling rushed. Many of the wines were enjoyable. Specifically the Sauvignon blanc, Reserve.

We were driving into Middleburg and drove past one of the most picturesque vineyards we've ever laid eyes on. Boxwood was not a winery we had heard of but we felt compelled to stop in. We were NOT disappointed! Their wine tasting was insightful, well balanced and we loved the variety of wines we were able to try. After our tasting we toured the grounds and bought a bottle to take home. They have excellent outdoor seating options- this would be a good place for a classy birthday or bridal celebration. Their inside includes and upscale tasting setting in the cellar for an additional fee which would be incredible for a date night.

Ryan was an excellent. He had an expansive knowledge of wine very knowledgeable regarding different blends. He was outgoing, energetics, and answered all of our questions. We highly recommend boxwood winery to anyone in the area.

My husband and I visited the beautiful Boxwood Estate Winery yesterday while visiting Middleburg. We saw that the parking lot was full and worried that it would be too busy, but the service, ambience, and food were wonderful! Despite the large crowd, we were well cared for by Carolyn and Marcus. We were warmly greeted, served quickly, and enjoyed the beautiful area, and some of the best wines we have had in a long time. Can't wait to return!

This was a very nice winery. The sea selections were really nice. As well as the wines. Pretty young, not super far off. The beaten path service was excellent. The man who went over the wines was very informative. Outside ambience was beautiful. And they have a private tasting room in their wine cellar, which is beautiful as well. Definitely would go back.

Such great staff! And wonderful wine. We are very picky with wine and we're very pleasantly surprised here! Last time we came here they only had red, but their colors white wines were some of the best I've had in VA. Reds here are always amazing!!! Also, cheese pairing was spot on!!

3/5, July 2021. We stopped here as part of a tour of local wineries. The set up was nice. We had a good sized group, about 10 people I think, and they seated us outdoors under a large tent. There were a few fans going to combat to the summer heat but overall it was fine. They conducted the tasting with us seated at the table and the service was good. I thought the wine was ok but nothing that stood out. The indoor area is a very stark modern Avant Garde style which seems somewhat at odds with the surrounding area. Overall the experience was probably better than the wine.

It's the wine AND the ambiance for me. Boxwood Estates has clearly invested A LOT of money in their vineyard and the winery itself. Sadly, they haven't invested a lot into making the wine taste good. It seems like this is the place to see and be seen, because the other patron's outfits here were well above your average. There is ample seating in the front, back, and amongst the vines in a covered pavilion. The buildings and grounds were great, but the clientele it attracted was pure new money, and of the four wines (each served in a plastic cup and marked numerically with a sharpie) only two were drinkable. We went with their white flight, which was very flat and disappointing overall. The rosé was offensive. The nose on the Trellis was 100% tannins, but surprisingly had no flavor. If you literally held your nose, you could drink it--but why would you? My biggest gripe is that this place makes *each person* buy a bottle for the pure joy of being there and listening to the loudest drunk NoVa girls you've ever encountered talk about their new kitchen remodels. (They're going for modern industrial, which some people say is too cold, but they LOVE IT). I wish you could just pay for a tasting without being forced to buy the terrible wine, because the actual land is really pretty and could be a nice way to spend some time. And, I get that it's COVID and plastic cups might be safer, but if you're going to make me buy a bottle at least make my experience cute and Instagram-worthy, since that seems to be this winery's only ambition.

They were so accommodating to our party. We loved the red wines. Mark was amazing. We will be back.

Our time at Boxwood was okay. We did a tasting--$20 per person, which we later discovered also came with $5 off a bottle. The tasting was five wines, none of which really impressed me. The wines weren't bad, but they weren't remarkable, either. Definitely not the best I've had in the area. We did get a few cheese boards, though, and they were delicious (though we later learned most of the ingredients on it were from Trader Joe's... at least we know we can recreate it?). The building is beautiful, though, and near a lot of other vineyards if you want to make a day of it.

Very very nice experience. I opted for the cave wine tasting. The "cave" turned out to be more of a charming wine cellar. That was actually a plus for me. The service was excellent. The ambiance was great. I would have preferred a little fruit with the charcuterie or some sort of option to select what you would like.

Nice, intimate winery compared to some of the huge wineries in the area. It gets pretty crowded on Saturdays with nice weather, but the staff is pretty accommodating. During my last visit, we did a quick tasting then grabbed a bottle and snacks for the cute patio area. Everything we had was really good. We kind of wandered around after that and it's a beautiful property.

Great Northern VA winery. We stopped in on a Saturday afternoon after making a reservation. The staff was welcoming and attentive at checking us in. They have spaced the tables out and are enforcing social distancing to the best of their ability. I'm not going to comment on the wine, since that is very subjective, but the location is great.

Great winery with nice views. The 2021 Rose was so good! Ryan Edwards is so knowledgeable, nice, and makes the experience amazing. We can't wait to come back and bring our friends.

Be extremely careful if you a make a reservation here. These people have purposefully implemented a strategy to capture cancellation fees. Apparently you have to cancel 3 days+ prior not to be charged ($10-$20 per person). They use a platform called CellarPass for reservations, which solely reminds you of the reservation one day prior. Receiving the email and realizing we had made a mistake on timing for a group of 12, we immediately called and tried to cancel. They seem nonplussed and refused to budge or offer another solution. This place cares much more about churning through new customers than retaining any long term customers.

Not at all what I expected, I guess I was expecting a large production. The place is quite small but cute and quaint. We celebrated part 2 of a birthday winery tour here with 16 people. I think it's better suited for an intimate gathering. There's a circular tasting table when you first walk in, and the employees are very friendly. The wine was also very good off of the tasting menu mostly all reds which is my favorite. All wines are made from Virginia grown grapes, which several that are grown right on the premises. I would definitely recommend this place for a chill weekend day and if you love red wine.

This is such a wonderful winery! My mom and I really enjoyed the cave tasting! It was very unique and such a cool experience. There wasn't one bad wine! Our server Ryan was also great and extremely knowledgeable. He really is an asset to the Boxwood team!

I think the original goal for the weekend was to visit a winery + alpaca farm, but both of the ones in the area unfortunately seemed closed. We then opted for just a winery, which was just as much fun. We stepped into Boxwood at about 12pm and had their 5 wine tasting, which costs $10 per person. Each one was progressively better than the other and they were super friendly and we had a ton of fun during the tasting. We ended up getting a bottle of our favorite wine as well as a cheese and meats platter. Since it was a very, very mild November weekend, we were able to sit outside and enjoy the good wine and great company. We were also able to take a look inside their chilling room with the barrels of wine!

Wonderful experience. Amazing wines that easily rival California's best. Truly a worthwhile visit. I recommend trying the cellar room to maximize your tasting visit.

One of my favorite wineries in Middleburg is Boxwood because of their fantastic wine and awesome property. Sitting outside at the fire pits you'll still need to bundle up, but you can definitely feel the heat coming off the fire. Their indoor seating is a little more limited, but they have a great bar to do a tasting at. I'm typically a red wine drinker, but their rosé is an award winning wine and truly is so good. On the charcuterie board there were so many delicious meats and cheeses and the bread and jam really hit the spot. Next time you're venturing to Loudoun County be sure to stop by Boxwood!

Looking for a new winery to try after lunch in Middleburg and followed the signs to this ultra-modern winery. The modern design of this winery stands out from the crowd almost as much as the quality of their wines. The tasting room is clean in design, with skylights, stone clad walls and a circular stainless steel tasting bar. The staff are very informative and, if you have a group, you can prearrange for a private tour and tasting. You don't need a tour to view the bottling room and the cave with aging barrels laid out in tidy concentric circles. Both can be seen from the tasting room. All wines are made from Virginia grown grapes, many grown right on the premises. The wines were all excellent, with complex structures. The reds are particularly good, smooth and rich. If you'd like a bite to eat with your wine tasting, Boxwood offers both a charcuterie platter and sandwich options. There are plenty of tables indoors to relax at, and picnic tables for warmer weather too. Although children are allowed, this winery offers a more upscale adult atmosphere without much for youngsters to see or do. If you're looking for excellent Virginia wine, this should be on your must-do list.

Totally unsympathetic to an error we made in scheduling made when making an online reservation and insisted on charging us hundreds of dollars for a reservation we couldn't use. Don't give people like this your money. There are tons of wineries in VA run by less cutthroat people.

Booked a tasting for a birthday group of 9 this past weekend, and unfortunately was not met with the high reviews as expected. Winery is beautiful and boutique, however the staff accommodating us seemed to be more concerned about me paying our bill than enjoying the experience. I was asked to close the tab before our one hour slot had even expired, and as I had ordered multiple(7+)bottles and charcuteries. Our group was perplexed as I kept having to walk from the back patio to the front to discuss the tab- when we were still ordering. The assistant manager (Carolyn) was very helpful, but her team was clearly having a bad day. Hopefully future patrons will enjoy their entire experience and then close out, so that they don't leave with a bad taste in their mouth.
