Raleigh’s First ‘Leisure Bar’ Lagoon Set to Open Spring 2021 - Eater Carolinas

"An opportunity presented itself to Wood to take over the shipping container above the restaurant. A silver lining, he relayed, and an opportunity to launch Lagoon, a “leisure bar,” to coincide with the barbecue joint." - Jenn Rice

Great vibe. Tables all around a courtyard made from old boxcars. Large covered area with big ceiling fan. Various food choices so there’s something for everyone. Brewery has an awesome selection of draft beers and a cooler with some other selections, including sodas and capri suns.

Google
It is a great find for barbecue in a hidden spot within RTP. Visited on a late Thursday night with great sitting outside weather. A lot of the menu was sold out with under an hour before they closed. Missed the Mac cheese and ribs. Potato salad, tangy coleslaw and BBQ was great and sauce options.

Google
Rescue Brew Launch Party at Fullsteam RTP was fun. Our friend's service dog won the Top Dog award & had her picture on take-home cans. We loved the new brew on draft with a thin & crispy pizza. Shaded courtyard seating was comfortable even on a hot summer evening. And the best part was being with our friends and our dogs. We definitely want to return.

Google
Food court will not disappoint you!! Lawrence Bbq is delicious. I usually get the bbq or wings. This time I tried the smashburger, it melted in my mouth! I have also tried the Korean bbq place upstairs.

Google
This place is awesome. Tons of parking. We got pizza, it was delicious. Live music/DJ can be a bit loud if you’re in the center area. However, they provide earplugs if needed which I thought was really cool.

Google
This was my first time at Boxyard and I loved it!!! I didn’t know there would be live music so that was a nice surprise. While there were great food options, a few of the places were sold out of popular items — I think that’s what you get when coming on a weekday evening. Nonetheless, we were able to make it work with the options we were left with. Most of us are at Lawrences where we thoroughly enjoyed the chicken wings. We purchased a mix of side items from Lawrence’s that were all BANGING — macaroni, collards, brussels sprouts and potato salad. XOXOK was the band playing, and they played a host of sultry songs. It is a loud space…expect to be shouting to have conversations with your group…we nonetheless found it perfect for a girls night out.

Google
Overall massive disappointment. I anticipated a venue to support a Saturday date night defined by lots of interesting and delicious eats but instead instead I found about 1/2 of the restaurants were closed and at 7 ish and the remaining ones were closing at 8pm. My partner wanted a salad and made a B-line to the restaurant only to find the place had run out of all proteins and numerous other salad components. Lesson learned, one and done, moving on, I would suggest not wasting your time.

Google
Really nice place with nice atmosphere. Be it drinks or food, there is something here for almost everyone. It is kid and dog friendly and a nice place to eat and relax. There is plenty of parking and seating is plentiful, but large groups may find it challenging at times. They frequently have live music, but check online for the schedule.

Yelp
Such a cool spot! This is definitely one of the most unique gathering spaces in the area. We stopped by on a Saturday afternoon and grabbed pizza, which was awesome, and cupcakes which we also enjoyed. There's plenty of parking, everyone's friendly, and it's just a great vibe. Check out their website for all of the monthly events!

Yelp
This place was SO cool! A food court where all of the restaurants are in box cars. It really is a neat experience with a lot of dining choices. All of the seating is outside, but on a beautiful day it was amazing.

Yelp
My family took us here while visiting them in Durham and we loved it! Cool outdoor vibe with a nice big cover so it doesn't matter that it was raining. Love that were options for everyone. My husband and I got Lawrence. Best bbq we've had! There was live music and plenty of seating. As my eight year old niece Bella says: It was a great experience for the family. Good food and really fun. we also had some friends tag along with us. A lot of stuff to do. There was a little pond too. And there was a DND store like what .Good spot to go with the family OH and there was a music show. There were cupcakes pizza Mac and cheese brisket frostys salad .Highly recommend go there when you have time BOX Yard!

Yelp
We came here to check out the drinks and restaurants when we came to visit our friend. There were a lot of people here and there's a central eating area that was enclosed on the top which helped with the rain when we came here. A lot of restaurants surrounded this area and definitely a great place to hang out, eat, drink, and enjoy. It was a good experience and they didn't have any live music but our friends said they had live music in the past. The parking lot was sufficient but can fill up. Overall, great place and definitely worth checking out.

Yelp
Aesthetic is on point. Great place to walk around and grab a bite to eat and a drink. They have spirits, coffee, bakery, and plenty of eateries so everyone can find a little something. We tried the Korean bbq joint- Bulkogi- and it was excellent. We washed it down with spirited mixes from lagoon bar and would highly recommend the combo.

Yelp
Fun spot to meet up with friends to grab a drink and/or meal! With so many options you can each pick whatever you're in the mood for! Many of the restaurants allow you to put in mobile orders so you just need to stop in to pick up your food once it's ready. There's a ton of seating both upstairs and downstairs.

Yelp
Absolutely love the vibe and feel of boxyard. The concept is awesome! All of these great restaurants, bars, and chill space all in one place. From beer, wine, bbq, to bulgolki boxyard has it all and more. You can literally grab a drink, a table, and bring in food and chill all day. There is always something to do here, from pop up shops, DJs, game nights, and comedy. Their calendar is always full with something, so I recommend subscribing to their email list or following them on social media. During the warmer months it does get pretty crowed, so I would get here esrly.

Yelp
Great sample of all the BBQ at Leroy's. Service was quick and kind. Good value for the price. Messaging system for when order is ready was efficient.

Yelp
Loved this place! It was such a cute concept with shipping containers and live music. There are shaded areas and some fans to keep you cool as well. If you get too hot there is some inside seating in some restaurants and if not a great place to pick up food to take home as well. The variety of food such pizza, Korean bbq, dessert and beverage options is fantastic. I particularly loved how this place is very kid friendly. I would high recommend checking this place out!
google avatar

Yelp
A collection of shipping containers stacked and interconnected with catwalks doesn't sound like a recipe for a fun and engaging place, but Boxyard RTP, by its location and tenants, makes it happen. There are several good and drink purveyors, as well as a central courtyard and decent wifi and seating. On most nights, it's packed with people who have just left work or driven in for an event. I go when I'm not scheduled on Wednesday, because there is a great game meetup every Wednesday.
google avatar

Matthew F.

Yelp
THIS IS THE PLACE TO GO! They have food and drink options for everyone! They also do a game night where you can try different games. The live bands are a great add! The best is when they have the flea markets outside!!! Love supporting local businesses!
google avatar

E H.

Yelp
This is a really cool spot if you just want to hang out, chill, and grab some good eats. Got a nice little band playing. You can hang out play games or even if you just want to come work it's very accommodating. Multiple food options to try. Definitely a must try and I think you'll keep coming back. I'm from California and I really enjoyed this spot.

Yelp
Such a cool concept! We stopped by on day two of the "Unboxing" Grand Opening in the late morning today. Excited that we scored some Boxyard bucks to us at the vendors! Unfortunately, not much was open yet, (everything opens at 11) so we'll stop by later since we live nearby. From what I saw in the directory there's lots of choices for food, drink, and more. Since it's mostly open air they have heaters stationed all around the seating area and the pavilion area itself is heated for these colder days. Once Spring hits I imagine this place will be really hit it's stride and be The spot to be in south Durham. What a welcome addition!
google avatar

Mike O.

Yelp
This was a very cool concept and definitely worth a stop if you are in the area. The containers are placed in a unique way so that you don't feel like you are in a yard of them, but in a modular design that is very unique. They had live music and several places to get food (I will definitely try the BBQ), the line was long and the plates I saw come out looked great.
google avatar

Marie O.

Yelp
Very cool place to hang out, grab a cold beer and listen to live music, no cover charges! The containers all around were so industrial looking and sharp. It was even 2 storys so you can sit above or below. Some eateries to choose from (Pizza place was not worth the $26 so don't bother, try to BBQ place, that is what I'm trying next time) Very dog friendly and they even had an enclosed dog park outside on the side of the venue. Would definitely come back.

Yelp
Folks, this is a fun venue for lunch. I've only sampled the BBQ and Korean BBQ providers, but I've heard from habitual customers that all the vendors are high quality. Most of the vendors maintain a small dining area within their container stores. Yes, all of the vendors reside in shipping containers, repurposed as restaurants/eateries. The containers are arranged in a large 'horseshoe' around a central picnic area. There is overhead cover in the event of rain, but it is outdoors and the elements play a factor. The menus I've seen offer plenty of options, and on the two occasions I've visited, no one claimed they had a bad experience. In terms of price, you should expect to pay $10-20 for lunch, so I'd say it's about average. What's even more unique is those that wish to bring their lunch are welcome to join you in the picnic area. I almost forgot to mention the live entertainment. There's a stage which often features live local entertainers. Boxyard is worth a visit!

Yelp
The perfect place to come and chill. They have something here for everyone. Sweets, candy, food, drinks, and on some days live music. I like coming here on my lunch break to rewind and take some stress away. There is plenty of parking, outside sitting and great vibes. Anytime I am here I make sure to visit wonderpuff and grab some of her amazing cotton candy!
google avatar

Stephanie J.

Yelp
Boxyard was a fun place to grab food and drinks at. We visited Fullsteam RTP, Buzzy Bakes, Beyu and Carrburritos. The only downside to the colder months is that seating available inside is slim or non-existent so you will need to try and grab a table near a heater. There is an escape room opening soon so we will be returning to check that and other businesses out.
google avatar

Lesley L.

Yelp
I've been here twice recently for group events, once for lunch and once during the dinner hour. It's an awesome outdoor venue with several options for food and drink. I look forward to going back!
google avatar

Glenn G.

Yelp
There's nothing quite like it in this area. It's a series of restaurants and shops in converted boxcars, centered around an open courtyard area. It's basically in the parking lot of a large business park. I've enjoyed barbecued pork, Korean food, beer and baked goods here. My wife has also enjoyed a glass of wine. They have entertainment on select days, and the vibe is very family friendly. They have had some turnover already, plus some pop-ups, but seem to be very successful and a nice asset to the area.

Yelp
We stopped by Beyu Caffe for an afternoon pick me up! Boxyard has so many places to try and I can't wait to go back! Plenty of outdoor seating and perfect for the current spring weather!

Yelp
I started visiting Boxyard RTP in the Summer of 2021 before they were officially open so that definitely makes me one of the "cool kids"! They originally just had Lawrence BBQ and then Fullsteam opened and that is when this place really took off. Recently they have had Carrburitos and Bulgogi open as well as a few other vendors. The concept is awesome. Old railroad boxcars that have been painted and converted into businesses. I read where the idea came from local city leaders visiting another city in Oklahoma (Tulsa maybe?) which had done something similar. There are two levels and almost all seating is outdoors (Fullsteam has limited indoor seating). When it gets really cold they have heaters near the tables and when it gets really hot over the Summer they can utilize the "Big Assed Fans" that are installed overhead (They really are named that. See photo). For entertainment, the Boxyard has acoustic music on Thursday nights and I believe Friday and Saturday as well. They might have other types of entertainment but when I have been it has been mostly the acoustic performers. If you haven't seen to Boxyard RTP yet you should check it out!
google avatar

Yelp
Great place to visit and it's 2 minutes away from my job. There's a nice variety of foods to choose from and I usually default to Lawrence's BBQ. Their menu is on point! Bulkgogi is also a nice little Korean fusion spot located on the top. They have a smart POS system where you order from a tablet then wait for your food to finish. It's hella seamless and honestly one of the best systems I've seen to date. Right across from Bulkgogi is a nice pastry shop, Buzzy Bakes. Everything is made fresh and everything is SO GOOD. Their cookie portions could def satisfy the craving of 2 ppl, and that's coming from someone with a killer sweet tooth. 1 cookie is enough, but I always get a few extra Boxyard RTP has a nice vibe and it's open, so with the upcoming nice weather I'm sure it'll thrive even more, especially with the stage and entertainment factor.

Yelp
Okay I see you RTP, opening up your first food hall. Boxyard is a cool little food hall that's essentially made out of shipping containers. It's two floors are packed with shopping, dining, drinking, with plenty of parking and seating to go around. I first came here back in November, and then a couple more times now that it's getting warmer. They have space heaters in the winter, so it was perfect to grab yourself and drink and warm yourself up. The spring/summer vibe is definitely different, with live music and different events throughout the week! They also have free wifi throughout, which was perfect when I wanted to work outside on a beautiful day. They do have background music playing so it may not be the best if you need a quiet space for meetings, but it was perfect for me. I've only tried a few of the vendors here so far, notably Bulkogi, Lagoon Bar, Fullsteam. I've been a longtime fan of Bulkogi and am so glad that they now have a permanent location here. The food is a little more expensive here than on the food truck, but it's still my go-to place for a quick bite. The only thing I'm sad about is that Boxyard isn't open on Sundays! I guess it's catered more to the working office hours of RTP, but I think it'd be a great place to hang out on the weekends as well.

Yelp
As the weather is getting warm, I decided To check out Boxyard. Boxyard has a great outdoor space. While we were there, they had a DJ playing music which was a nice treat. They have quite a few selection of eateries, including Lawrence BBQ and Bulgoki! You definitely need to confirm each vendors business hours. This is definitely a food destination for those who want to try a few different food options. Check out boxyard web page for ongoing events. Boxyard is dog friendly and they have a dog park next-door.
google avatar

Yelp
Boxyard RTP is fully open and I enjoyed kicking off their 3 day celebration on November 18th! The #unboxingwknd allowed for everyone to come out and see the many vendors they will have at Boxyard RTP. It is an outdoor retail space, with an upstairs and downstairs. Space heaters are on the premises but on this night there was not a need for them. There is something for the whole family to enjoy here, including the family pet as there us a dog park right there and Meat and Graze (a charcuterie spot) offered barkcuterie..how cute! My fave place was Lawrence Barbecue, because I am an Oyster lover and besides amazing brisket, they have delicious raw and barbeque oysters. My husband enjoyed Fullsteam RTP, which offers a variety of beer on tap. Our kid loved her snickerdoodle cookie from Buzzy Bakes on the 2nd floor. Be sure to walk around and explore, I'm sure you'll find a favorite place or two when you go!
google avatar

Sarah V.

Yelp
This place is perfect on a beautiful day- there are a lot of wine and beer options. It's a great place to chill with good people and enjoy wine and beer. That's about it though. The food options are not good. Lawrence BBQ was a huge disappointment as was Bulgogi. The pizza looked alright, so I might try it. The charcuterie is probably good to a novice but for someone who loves charcuterie and seeks it out, I didn't like what I saw. If you're a foodie and have tried food in many places, you won't be happy with the food. But you can't beat the selection of beer and wine.
google avatar

Nikia W.

Yelp
Great space for community and open air meetups. Think foodhall, with outdoor seating. I do feel that the food is overpriced, which is why I gave 4 stars. Otherwise, a great vibe. Live music after 5pm.
google avatar

Kathern A.

Yelp
Checked out Boxyard for their grand opening today. It's pretty fun with live music, different food options, shops, with food and coffee. The stores change often which is kinda cool.

Mark L.

Yelp
Rare opportunity to enjoy food and drink with friends in RTP. BBQ Pizza and Beer accompanied by a stage performance a true classic. Dogs allowed.

Nina E.

Yelp
Great food! A little pricey but great for every once in a while, look out for live music too!!
google avatar

Jeep H.

Yelp
Great place with a bunch of great food and drink options and good entertainment programming year round!

Vanessa H.

Yelp
Great portions, very flavorful! It is a little pricey but the portion size is worth it - a great split meal for lunch.

Yelp
A new outdoor space has come to town! I love hanging at Boxyard RTP! They recently had their grand opening and gave out Boxyard bucks and other promotional items. There's something for everyone here such as coffee, cupcakes, charcuteries, Mexican, bbq, Asian and more. During my visit, I checked out Beyu Coffee. I tried Oprah's Mocha and the French toast. The mocha was delicious and not overly sweet. There is a mix of dark and white chocolate and espresso. Very good! And the French toast was amazing! There was some sort of bourbon glaze that took it over the top. The syrup isn't even necessary and the glaze was sweet enough. There are plenty of places to sit outside and heaters as well. And free wifi! I love how they always have music as well. This spot is very versatile- a nice place to hang with friends or telework. And there's plenty of parking. I look forward to checking out some of their events soon!
google avatar

Layla a.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and lots of food options! It's a great outdoors venue with a few different places to choose from for food and drinks. They had a live band, there's seating in front of the band as well as upstairs on the deck. We had the burritos. They were good. Not the best but they were good.
google avatar

Hannah P.

Yelp
Boxyard is my current favorite spot to go with coworkers. I love the concept of the place - like a food court but with high quality food spots, fun drink options, and a variety of shopping options! I really like how when I bring friends, everyone can get what they want. The fact that there is so much outdoor seating is nice, especially during the current times. I've been able to meet up with people here that I probably couldn't have if this was indoors. Even in the chillier months, some of the vendors have great to-go options (Meat & Graze!) and some have indoor seating (Fullsteam!). There is so much outdoor seating and space to spread out here. There are two levels as well. There are cute fire heaters placed throughout plus a ring of built in heaters on the upper level. There's a lot of thought that went into this place and I love how they promote local businesses to succeed. I have checked out Meat & Graze, Bulkogi, Buzzy Bakes, and Fullsteam and I can't wait to check out more spots soon :)
google avatar

Ashley J.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, delicious drinks and barbecue and the live music was a nice touch. It's a nice size without being overwhelming and we were able to find a table on a Saturday afternoon
google avatar

Yelp
Fun place to hang out on a nice day. Dog friendly and they even have a small dog park!

Charley R.

Yelp
Great experience. Nice outdoor venue. Live music was great. Something for everyone. We visited Beyu Caffe, Lawrence BBQ, Wonderpuff, Meat and Graze, Buzzy Bakes, and Fullsteam. We are definitely adding this to our list of places to bring out of town guests.

David T.

Yelp
Delicious food options in a fun & cool outdoor food court vibe. Love the beer and wine options. A+
google avatar

Megan G.

Yelp
Love this concept. I Finally got to see why this is such a successful new spot! Met a friend for a drink and dinner. I love the style and lay out and all the options. Such a nice place even on a cold night. There were plenty of people even in 30 degrees on a Thursday night. Nice local band. Heaters around a few tables and some up in the framework which did manage to provide some great. The fullsteam pizza was terrific! I can't wait to go back and try more places. Seemed like a good amount of parking. I'm glad spaces like this are opening up in different areas of town! Great location in the middle of lots of people without being crowded !
google avatar

Kimberly H.

Yelp
I recommend coming here on a nice/warm day since the majority of the seating is outside. I liked the options for food and drinks. I got a beer from Fullsteam, a cupcake from Buzzy Bakes and a chicken quesadilla with chips and queso from Carrburritos. It was a fun time.

Alicia U.

Yelp
Very good BBQ and live entertainment at lunchtime! Was more than expected!! Several choices to choose from.

Jace H.

Yelp
Really enjoyed the wehustle lemonade made by Sara who was an amazing bartender! The drinks were made quickly and well done for our entire work group.

Yelp
Popped over to this venue on a Sunday afternoon as we saw a posting for live music from a group out of Wilmington, NC. Very cool venue and neat set up with the shipping containers but as it being a Sunday afternoon most of all the vendors were closed. When i arrived there were over 50 or so people so it was upsetting that vendors weren't open. Grabbed a beer sat for some music. The band finished shortly after settling in with 45 min still left on their mentioned set time but realized why quickly. We witnessed complete unprofessional behavior from their drummer who proceeded the throw items a crossed the stage while the rest of the band ignored his(clearly under the influenced) behavior. We left when he proceeded to fall on his face, leaving our drinks and a sour taste of what we witnessed. I saw a young lady that seem to work for the boxyard and she seemed unfazed as well a older security women seated in the back of the venue who ignored the actions as well. Too bad as it reflects on the venue itself. I think after work for HH would be better suited.

Brian S.

Yelp
What a great venue! A lovely mix of young and old gather here to relax, eat, drink beer & cocktails, bring their dogs and listen to a wonderful Friday music open jam session hosted by Steve Munoz, a talented multi-instrumentalist himself. Lawrence's BBQ has the best brisket in town. Lagoon upstairs has great drinks. We had similar boxcar locations in LA (Steelcraft) but they haven't gelled the way this one has -- not nearly as well attended (insufficient parking is one problem) and not a great mix of events or places to eat. No sense of community in the LA versions. We met Amanda who hosts game nights on Wednesdays. Love it!
