"Honolulu has plenty of excellent izakayas, but Bozu stands apart for its creativity within the izakaya framework of grilled, fried, and raw small plates. You’ll find classic and new preparations side by side on the menu: impeccable sashimi and a raw surf and turf roll of uni, beef, shiso, and yam; a braised pork belly kakuni alongside an American-style beef stew made with tongue and topped with melted cheese. Always order off the specials menu, which might include firefly squid, barely bigger than a thumb, with mustardy miso, or fish and chips Japanese-style: fried flounder and its crispy bones." - Martha Cheng

My good friend introduced me to Bozu Japanese Restaurant located on the second floor of the McCully Shopping Center. The Izakaya restaurant is serving amazing Japanese fare and sushi. It's not cheap but we enjoyed it because it has a little bit of everything. If you love high-quality Japanese Food this is the place.

absolutely delicious! i highly recommend the hamachi carpaccio and the garlic ahi tuna steak (it is a special i believe so just a heads up). the environment was clean and service was absolutely amazing. the food is on the pricey side but it is worth every penny. if you are ever in the honolulu area stop by, you will not regret it!

Authentic delicious Japanese izakaya. We waited roughly 45 minutes but it wasn't too bad since we were not super hungry. Expect to spend $40+ per person. It was so worth it though. We got the tamago, negi hama roll, negi toro roll, karaage with eggplant, miso eggplant, a random fish kama, ankimo, another dried fish snack, and the mentaiko pasta. My friend also got some skewers and said she liked them a lot. I liked everything we got and would love to revisit to try the rest of the menu.

I’m a regular here. Food is so good and I like the atmosphere and service. My favorites are assorted sashimi, Uni nigiri and Botan sweet shrimp.

We are on a vacation for our hawaii trip and found out about this restaurant. This is one of the best Japanese restaurants in Hawaii that I have been to. We order otoro for $36.50 for 6 pieces at market price. And it tastes so good. It just melts in your mouth. We just has to add additional order at the end, as it is that good. And the price is inexpensive for 6 pieces. This is one of the must try Japanese restaurant in Hawaii if you are happen to be here.

Awesome experience. My girlfriend wanted Japanese food and this place was recommended to me by a coworker. Called early and got a reservation right away. If you plan to try this place it gets packed very fast, reservations a must. We got to sit at the bar. Wonderful experience being able to see the chefs prepare the food right in front of you. Dishes were expertly plated, fish was fresh, and the servers were very friendly and helpful. I'm not so well versed in Japanese sushi, and our server was very patient with us trying to decide what to order. She even had some great recommendations for sake. Will definitely be back again.

Interesting authentic Japanese Restaurant! There is a wide selection of sushi and Japanese dishes. The fish is very fresh and diverse for sushi, so you can choose unusual and interesting sushi options. Yakitori was delicious, I liked the most pork Cheek Meat! I also recommend to order Nigiri Combination, it is a great dish to start the dinner.

I love sushi and this place did not disappoint. They have amazing foor and the sake selection is great. I've always been a huge fan of Dewazakura Sake and they have it here. You really can't go wrong with that. As for the food, I don't have any words other than wow. I was so impressed that my friends and I made reservations to come back while we were there.
