The Best Breakfast and Brunch Restaurants in Eugene, Oregon | Eater Portland

"This Eugene classic is an easy, affordable choice for a big group that delivers diner vibes with a Korean twist. Each location serves everything from loco moco to bulgogi to quintessential breakfast foods like a fluffy stack of pancakes. Diner coffee refills are always on hand and the restaurants each feature a full bar with bloody marys. During prime hours, there’s often a wait but the tables turn quickly." - Brenna Houck

Google
I was very disappointed with my scrambled eggs. The eggs were thin and ribbon looking. I asked for well done but I still expected fluffy eggs. The hash browns had no flavor, the toast was okay though. On the plus side, and I honestly the only reason they get 3 stars, the service was quick and the servers were polite and friendly. We were seated immediately and our orders were taken quickly. The atmosphere was busy and hectic, but that's breakfast time at any breakfast place. I hope this was a one off because I like the other Brails.

Came here to meet with family and even though it took a while to sit down (large group), it was worth the wait! Monte cristo was fantastic, lots of meat with great crispy fries, added some syrup because of the French toast bread. 5/5. Wifey ordered the eggs Benedict, substituted to add bacon. Bread stayed fresh and crispy, the whole meal was put together very well and was delicious. Kids all got the cheeseburgers and you can see they’re big burgers, the kids loved them. Our friend got a Loco Moco, she loved it and reminded her of home in Hawaii. The waiter offered kimchi, my wife and her friend said the Kimchi was delicious (which is rare, high standards!) Highly recommend!!

This little cafe was a great spot to get breakfast. We had biscuits and gravy, corn beef hash, and the veggie benedict. It was all really good, especially the benedict. Bloody Mary's were also really good. Love that they use celery and horseradish. We'll be back!

Google
Great locally owned breakfast and lunch spot. Friendly neighborhood feel in quaint Eugene, OR. Server was great, his dad has worked there 25 years. Didn't get to meet the owner, but her Korean heritage is reflected in the menu. Breakfast spot with great service and a menu that has American classics mixed with a touch of Hawaiian and Korean flair (where else can you get a fried rice stuffed omelet). Biscuits and gravy are made from scratch. Lots of seating. Great place. If we ever get back to Eugene, we will definitely go again. It's a little pricey for breakfast with tip $70 for 3 people.

Google
The food was pretty good. Easily the best biscuits in Eugene. The place is 'historic' so it does show some wear and tear. A number of homeless in the area so go here with a clean car. Parking was easy. The staff was nice. The Denver omelet had too many onions to make up for the lack of hardly any mushrooms and zero bell peppers. The bar is only for people under 6ft tall due to seriously short stools.

I have not eaten here for a very long time. I brought my nephew here to celebrate his getting his Food Handlers Card. He would like to work in a restaurant. Crazy kid. Food here was good. Well prepared. These fine people working here are most professional. They are good at what they do here. This restaurant is on the ball. A variety of condiments on the counter and tables. Bowls of individual sized creamers for the coffee they serve here. No questions asked. My concern, like most Eugene restaurants is, I cannot afford to eat here. I will not be back. A shame. This is a good place. Too expensive.

Google
The place to get breakfast in Eugene! Been coming here many years and the food and service is always great. The best hangover breakfast spot in town! The french toast sampler is typically my go to. The waffles are top notch too! They also make a really good Chai latte. For larger groups I'd suggest this location. When it's just me and my wife we usually go to the Brails on 5th.

Google
The food and the service was fantastic! As tourists we love to find local fav and this spot did NOT disappoint! Junior was a phenomenal server, well versed in the menu, friendly and fun!

Yelp
Walking in to Brails at 9am on a Wednesday we were promptly sat and provided beverages. Our food order took a bit but we didn't mind waiting. Everything was delicious and as ordered.

Yelp
You are probably trying to decide on a place for breakfast, so here's what you need to know. Brail's is simple, relaxed, home style dining. We had omelettes, pancakes and coffee, and everything was delicious, fresh and hot. The service was great and the bill for our meals was surprisingly reasonable. Probably the best prices that we've seen for large omelette platters. Everything was just right. Oh, icing on the cake was the coffee. Hot, fresh, and decidedly strong for a restaurant. Coffee beans are expensive, so we find that most places really water it down. We were impressed. We will definitely be back with family and friends. Two thumbs up and five stars all the way.

Yelp
Food was just disgusting here. I actually could not believe how badly it tasted. I would never recommend this place. Service was good, ambiance was fun (nostalgic dinner aesthetic) but I doubt I will ever be returning. Out of the food we got the chicken skillet was actually inedible, do NOT recommend. My boyfriend will literally eat anything and he couldn't get it down lol. Also the worst coffee i've drank in my entire life it was hilarious. This is food they should pay YOU to eat...

Yelp
We eat breakfast regularly at Brail's. The food is always fresh and tasty. The waitstaff is amazing and incredibly responsive. Overall we just love this place.

Yelp
Delicious food nice atmosphere very nice staff the mocha was amazing great meeting place with friends

Yelp
Visited Brails the morning after a game and the wait was pretty quick! We were able to get warm coffee and tea while we waited which was quite the bonus because it was chilly outside. The food is absolutely amazing- the breakfast sandwich, veggie burrito, chocolate chip pancakes and biscuits and gravy were all hot, appropriate portions and delicious.

Yelp
A good old country breakfast! We are in town for the Oregon relays and had coffee at Dutchbros and the barista recommended this spot. We love recommendations from locals and he chose great coffees for me so why not. He didn't steer us wrong. This really unassuming spot had the best, filling breakfast. Angie, our server, could not have been more kind or attentive. She was nice enough to move us to a larger table because we convinced some other track parents to join us. I started with the Cranberry mimosa and it was served in the cutest glass, like something my grandmother probably had. I chose to Build my own omelette with cheddar, sausage and spinach. I was shocked that a side choice was biscuits and gravy. Everything arrived quickly and was seasoned well. Definitely try this spot out and ask for Angie.

Yelp
Service was slow. Person at counter was on break so I sat for a while with no service. Finally was able to order. Had hangover special. Hash browns were under cooked. Biscuits and gravy, the biscuits were dried out and tough and chewy leather like texture. With nowhere near enough gravy even if they had been fresh. Not nearly as good as other visits.

Yelp
Service was excellent, good cup of coffee, and I got the Riley's special - omg, loved it. Had a side order of onion rings - delicious
google avatar

Brian P.

Yelp
Not the same without Joy unfortunately. Servers talking with friends or each other for long periods of time. Food getting cold - sitting for 10 minutes ready to serve - but staff too busy to notice. Cold coffee, no silverware without asking. Joy would never have let that happen. Food is still good if it's not cold.

Yelp
I got the small breakfast with gluten free toast, gravy on the side, and sausage links. I really enjoyed the meal overall. GREAT gluten free toast with butter - much better than most grocery store brands. Eggs were perfectly cooked. The home fries needed more seasoning and were slightly underdone but nothing a lil pepper and salt can't fix. Sausage was great. Gravy was also under seasoned but I added pepper and it was good. The portion was pretty good for a $12ish plate of brunch. I asked for a side of fruit but they didn't have it. If you want fruit come earlier because we came on a Sunday around 11 and they were out. But overall solid place, especially for dietary restrictions. Fruit would really good to cute a hangover though.

Yelp
I'm sorry Brail's. I'm aware you're a Eugene establishment and you get tons of food for the price you pay, but the food quality is so cheap and greasy that it gave me an insane stomach ache for the rest of the day. The grits tasted like tap water. Not my kind of restaurant.
google avatar

Stanley W. F.

Yelp
An institution in Eugene. I remember about once a month we would go to Brails after church circa 1960s. Excellent food and service.
google avatar

Isabella N.

Yelp
This is by far one of my most recommended restaurants in Eugene. I've been here a few times and have always loved my orders. A few standouts have been their bacon waffle (don't knock it till you try it) and their French dip sandwich on their lunch menu. Good prices, good service, and great ambiance!

Debbie W.

Yelp
If you want to be full all day and wonder how they can afford to give you so much bacon...get a skillet breakfast. I always look at the menu to see what's there, but I never order anything else. Great coffee too. My mug is always full. Both locations are Bustling & quick are certainly the right words for Brails.
google avatar

Jason J.

Yelp
Got an egg burrito with home fries to take out. Very good. Large portion. I would go back when back in Eugene.
google avatar

V.A. J.

Yelp
I really enjoyed the breakfast options here. I ended up getting the teriyaki chicken omelet with veggies. It did not disappoint. I would definitely go back again if I lived in Eugene. The service was friendly. Ambiance was unque and had a local feel.

Yelp
Delicious, filling, and affordable. This hole-in-the-wall diner is a local favorite for a reason! They have a wide variety of American style breakfast options, sandwiches, and Korean comfort food. Brail's is a community staple that has been open since the 1940's and now has 2 locations in Eugene.
google avatar

Noah C.

Yelp
This place was right around the corner from my hotel while we were here for a track meet. So I came three times and had three different items. They were all delicious. The first day I had the spinach omelette, the second day I had the veggie eggs Benedict, and the third day I just had breakfast sandwich to go. Everyone was always super friendly (5 star) and helpful and the food was classic breakfast cuisine and lots of great options. If I had one minor critique, it would be that the spinach omelette was a bit light on spinach... so you like spinach in your omelette maybe ask for spinach! But still very good.
google avatar

Russ C.

Yelp
Made a vegetarian version of the skillet and I'll say I'm pretty impressed. Service has been fantastic -- THANK YOU MARIA!! Great for a breakfast spot for sure and I'm glad we came early and beat the rush.
google avatar

Mia G.

Yelp
even though service was lowkey slow, the restaurant is so big so i'll give them a pass but it was lowkey slow to order etc but the food came out pretty quick. the brail's omelette was so good and so fresh, def will be getting that next time. the big breakfast is your standard breakfast and the bacon is fire. nice ambience and a real nice breakfast vibe. love that this place is only open until 2 pm. STRICTLY breakfast, classic.

Ramonda D.

Yelp
Food was fine. Gravy was a bit bland but the eggs were perfect. Part of order was forgotten even after a reminder request. Staff was friendly. Easy to access fee free parking.
google avatar

Mike K.

Yelp
Maybe the best place in Eugene for breakfast. Very friendly snd helpful staff, and the place is oddly bigger on the inside. Like a Tardis. Food was great snd hot.
google avatar

Greg C.

Yelp
We breakfasted at Brails yesterday. The food did not disappoint. The servings were massive and tasty. What is unique is that Brails serves bulgolgi for breakfast which my son and daughter both enjoyed. The coffee was good and hot. The service was exceptional.

Lori S.

Yelp
Food and service is always good. Ya gotta try there chicken and waffles. To die for !
google avatar

Parker B.

Yelp
food was amazing! cute little restaurant, staff was so nice funny and friendly. brail's omelette was soooo good! we'll definitely be back.

Eoghan G.

Yelp
I'm pretty a sure all their omelets are made with just egg whites - mainly because the outside has the same color and texture as egg whites. They do not advertise this on the menu. Because of this, the omelets are not fluffy or satisfying. If you're going to make an omelet without yolks in the eggs, you should make sure people know that. So much for "best hangover food" in town - if I'd had a hangover that omelet would have made me gag.
google avatar

Joana B.

Yelp
This is our go to when I'm craving breakfast. I always get the Spinach Omelette with a side of hash browns and maybe some pancakes/French toast on the side if I'm feeling something sweet. My husband tends to try more things and he's enjoyed it all (chicken & waffles, country fried steak, the skillets, regular breakfast plates, etc). You definitely get bang for your buck here because portion sizes are huge. There is usually a wait, but that's typical of breakfast places I feel like. Parking is easy--they have both street & a parking lot and service has always been good!

Mary R.

Yelp
The food was mainstream and very bland and boring. It did not taste or look homemade at all. We will never go back. The service was fine.
google avatar

Kat P.

Yelp
The hangover special and French toast were great! Their staff is really on top of things. Lived in breakfast hole in the wall vibe w/ good food! Easily accessible w/parking lot. Could improve their biscuits and gravy recipe.
google avatar

Jill S.

Yelp
Exactly how I remembered this place from years ago when I went in college for brunch. Yes, you have to be patient because there's never not a wait. Crispy hash browns and the burrito hit the spot.
google avatar

Yama A.

Yelp
While traveling through Eugene we were recommended to go here. What a find! Amazing service, great food. The person helping us even told us about the heartwarming history of the restaurant. Will definitely come back!!!
google avatar

Jim W.

Yelp
Really good diner fare kind of food. Great service. Reasonable atmosphere. I've been twice, and will go again.

Yelp
If your local you know or should know Brails. 2 locations and we chose the Willamette location in Eugene. Start off by saying this place is usually busy but wait time is pretty fast. Today I had the spicy Korean noodle bowl. Hearty and generous, it's not overly spicy. Julie had the grilled cheese ( with avo for good measure). Nothing too outstanding but it filled the bill. Fries are coated with I'm guessing a seasoned batter that renders them crispy and tasty. The service has always been friendly and I said to my wife that looking out the street side windows has the feel of being in a neighborhood. The menu is breakfast/lunch only. There should be enough here for the adventurous as well as the tried and true. I recommend but I have to add that it's difficult to not be satisfied with eateries around here in general.

Cathy E.

Yelp
I like the food at Brails. Ive been to both locations in Eugene a number of times. The biggest problem is they close at 2:00 and begin for that closing a bit before 1:00. Shouting clean up duties across the dining rooms, mopping counters around your eating areas, tapping their feet while glaring at you if you order anything they've cleaned up too soon, and shrugging their shoulders if you have a group larger than four needing a table. I go often, as long as it's before noon.

Russell H.

Yelp
A great breakfast spot and diner. The food came out fast and it was delicious. They don't serve alcohol, which was fine but some like drinks with their food. We had the eggs Benedict which were cooked perfectly and also got the oatmeal, which I couldn't finish. The sausage patty was freshly made and the size of the plate it came on! If you're looking for a nice breakfast in Eugene, definitely check it out.
google avatar

Tomas C.

Yelp
I'm a diner guy. I want to love Brail's, but I can't say that I do. I don't mind the long wait, especially on weekends. The service is good. I love the menu variety. But the food is NEVER hot when it gets to the table, and every dish comes in separately. Cold soup. Cheese is never melted, on anything. Eggs are cold. I got a cheese omelette with cold shredded cheese IN the omelette. Pancakes were positively cool. Nothing is thoughtfully plated. They need a better grill-man. This has been a problem in each of my three visits on the past ten months. Im not going back until I hear that it's been fixed.
google avatar

Tim K.

Yelp
After a morning of walking around Eugene with our yeti coffee mugs, we came upon Brail's at the right time. We shared an omelette, breakfast potatoes and an extra large cinnamon roll. Or was it a cinnamon bun? We actually debated that and the jury is still out... The coffee was good and hot and our server even offered to fill our to-go mugs on our way out. Service was friendly, the place was clean, the food was good. It topped off a perfect morning in Eugene.

J H.

Yelp
This place is the f*cking best! Good, cheap, fast, friendly. The staff knows what you want and keep your coffee full. The two by two, over easy with english muffins are the go to. I only wish they were open 24/7 so could get stoned and eat breakfast at 3am with the bois.
google avatar

Richard W.

Yelp
The hollandaise sauce was disgusting and made me sick. It likely was not held at the correct temperature to be food safe

Lisa O.

Yelp
Met some friends here for brunch on a Sunday morning. It was on the early side and it was busy but we were seated right away. The only reason I give it three stars is the veggie burrito I ordered was incredibly bland. Not what I wanted or expected. I would go back and order something else, like one of the omelettes (my husband liked his) or pancakes. The service and atmosphere were great, so I will likely give it another try.
google avatar

Sarah P.

Yelp
Awesome food, awesome staff. Great place all around. Located in downtown Eugene, very Eugene kind of vibe. Go try it!
google avatar

Eric P.

Yelp
Your old school diner experience, and honestly in my giant gut opinion, one of the best places in Eugene to get breakfast. Located on Willamette there is a decent sized parking lot to park and a fair amount of street parking. Once inside you will be met with the fine smells of cooking bacon, eggs, hash browns, pancakes and coffee. Everything you expect for a greasy spoon such as this. ADA accessible there are several rooms and several large tables for the larger crowds to eat at. Everything is here you can possibly imagine and a local favorite that you just don't see here on the mainland too often and that Loco Moco. This is a Hawaiian staple, which here in Eugene is a bed of rice with a hamburger patty and a couple of eggs, over easy for me which helps with some great flavor and moisture all smothered in a beef brown gravy. If you haven't tried, it's worth it, as are the rest of the menu items, you really cannot go wrong here. One note though, the regular bacon is a tad on the crispy side, so be careful when you ask for crispy as well it might be REALLY crispy.
google avatar

Hailey K.

Yelp
The coffee invoked an ancestral rage inside of me. The chocolate chip pancakes were delicious but Jose really fumbled the ball by only giving me one pancake and bringing the second when we were already leaving... thanks Jose.

Rachel E.

Yelp
Don't skip over their lunch menu! Get the bulgogi! It's seriously SO GOOD. And I'm a picky eater... I will be coming back just for this dish.
google avatar

Leo G.

Yelp
Omlettes made with actual (read: non-homogenized, commercially processed) eggs and crispy hash browns! Finally! A bit loud and echoey in the place, so not recommend if you want a quiet place, but great service and food.

Constance I.

Yelp
Not a bad place to eat but for the prices rising everywhere and the increase in expected tips, I want my food to be hot. It was not.

Katie L.

Yelp
I think my parents visited Brail's when they were college students. It continues to be a favorite breakfast and lunch spot for them, my siblings, and the next generation. Good fresh food served with a smile.
google avatar

S L.

Yelp
Food was okay, my friend ordered French toast and it was cold. They should heat their plates. Servers were very nice.
