Yelp
I will write this review as a composite score of 3 visits in the last 6 months. If there was a numerical scale, then it would be a 3.7. But I rounded up to 4 stars. Branch and Barrel is one of those restaurants that is very competent. They don't have a lot of shortfalls, and they don't have a lot of superlatives. They have a steady track record of good performance. They are IBM - respected, steady, will never regret eating there, but you won't really remember it either. Maybe that's a little harsh as it might seem that I am downing them a bit for being good, but I hope rather, that it is read as I am urging them to find great.
It's a dark place - brown on brown on brown. It's not a pub, it's not stylish, it's competent - and brown.
Everyone who works here is nice - friendly, service oriented and welcoming. There are not a lot of them, but it's a small place....you are greeted warmly and serviced well
The menu - eh - it's OK - the farm to table basics, a pork chop, a fish, shrimp and grits....sandwiches, burgers.....some OK appetizers.....We tried the Brussels- salty, the deviled eggs- pretty good, They have a $10 old fashioned which is really good. Cocktails look great, beer list is great, wine list is so-so....but not a lot of wine drinkers here....
Over a few visits, had the pork chop, salmon salad, burger and fries......I would say the salad and burger stood out - everything is hot, fresh and price points are reasonable. They had a Waldorf salad that was spectacular but that is now either gone, or they don't have the ingredients...
We will likely be back, because overall, they are capable and very decent...will leave it there.
