"Alex and Margo Roberts, the duo behind elegant Minneapolis restaurant, cafe, and hotel Alma, are also the names behind Brasa, one of the Cities’ finest restaurants for casual, easy dining. Drawing on southern, Creole, and Mexican culinary influences, this menu is best served family-style: Pair rotisserie chicken crispy fried catfish (made with a gluten-free rice flour breading, it’s worth noting) with an assortment of savory stewed beans, fried yuca and plantains, collard greens with smoked chicken, and spicy creamed spinach. Round out the meal with butterscotch pudding." - Eater Staff

"Chef Alex Roberts plans to open his third Brasa location in Southwest Minneapolis. Known for its slow-roasted meats and comforting sides, this new Brasa will open at 818 West 46th Street, a site previously housing Studio 2 Cafe, Java Jack’s, and Rustica Bakery. The restaurant will offer the same indoor/outdoor dining vibes and menu, with an added capacity for larger catering orders." - Joy Summers

Typed 'soul food' into maps @ 730pm on a Sunday and drove over, hoping for the best. 🤞🏽 😬 A quick skim of the menu offered rotisserie chicken, collar' greens and candied yams. 👌🏽 I asked for a sample of the greens to see if they was hittin' or not. The gentleman at the counter obliged me, and they was on point. 👌🏽 Ordered the plate with chicken, greens, red beans and yellow rice, candied yams. They served me a tasty spin on Soul Food' with it's African, Caribbean and South American roots. Thanks Brassa for the yummy food, exceptional service and late hours on Sunday.

We had the huevos rancheros bowl and the arroz con pollo bowl and a piece of cornbread. These items were both well-seasoned, and filling. I want to try the catfish bowl next time. The service-included pricing is very refreshing. The atmosphere was worthy of a date night. The sidewalk seating is a nice asset as well.

One of my favorite restaurants in all of MN. The pork bowl is incredible. Yuca fries and fried plantains are enough even with a half order, even though you'll want to keep eating them. Their sauces never cease to amaze. The lemonade feels pricey until you taste it, and then you realize it is worth it every time.

We just moved to the area, and I’m not exaggerating when I say that this place has become an instant favorite of mine. The food is INCREDIBLE - the menu has a super wide range of choices, and literally everything was good. I could not recommend this place more highly!

I must say this place was delicious!! I had the fish and grits. oh my !! So good full of flavor!! Wish it was a tad hotter but I finished it all!! Also he’d yuca fries. Good too!! I will be back. Food was great. Bathrooms were not so great and the restaurant was loud because it was a open kitchen. I didn’t mind.

Food was ok and service was friendly but poorly executed. We got served our appetizers and then our entres two minutes later. No time to eat them before the entres arrived. The guacamole and chips were ok, guacamole was bland and boring especially for a supposedly Hispanic inspired menu, and the yuca fries were undercooked, chalky, and bland. My friend ordered the smothered chicken sandwich which he said was ok but the only flavor was in the somewhat spicy sauce. I ordered their flagship chicken and it was dry and relatively flavorless. The grab and go chickens at Kwik Trip and Cub are juicer and have more flavor. Overall disappointing for such a confusingly highly reviewed restaurant.

It’s the southern cookin’ food for sure. Chicken wasn’t fried though and wasn’t greasy. 👍🏼 We’d recommend the pulled pork as far as best flavor (if you can handle a little fat being boxed in)!! Flavors were really good, but I didn’t feel super healthy with my choices, so if you’re a health nut, beware. Coolest part is that this is a no tip restaurant! They mention on the menu that fair wages and solid employee benefits are provided to employees, so the tip is included with the menu prices! Cool idea.

The food came out QUICKLY, which was nice for lunch. The dining area is shared with a coffee shop and is about as basic as you can get. Service was good, but our waitress couldn't make menu recommendations.
