Brass Bell Kalk Bay

Make a booking for lunch. Receptionist was friendly and managed to get us a good table by the window. Waiter was quick to serve us. The food looked very good and was presented well, lacked a bit of flavour. Waiter took our order,someone else brought the food and neither of them was seen again until the bill arrived.

We enjoyed the view and ambiance of the ocean, music was not too loud, so having conversation was easy. Staff were friendly and service was prompt considering it was pretty busy when we arrived. The portions were good and not overpriced. I had a burger (fish) and it was delicious. Thanks for the experience, as Capetonians we do not often get to really enjoy our own spots, this was different.

Unfortunately not a great experience. I think the location is great and the restaurant has a fantastic menu ( I think). Unfortunately because of the size and different kitchens the service just is not great. My friend ordered fish and chips and pizza and I ordered a Poke Bowl. Their food arrived before mine , with promises of my bowl coming soon. They ended up finishing their food before any sign of my poke bowl. We were told the sushi is taking very long afterwards, but this is something a restaurant needs to manage properly. I ended up having to leave hungry and very disappointed. The staff were kind and I really hope management can get a hold of this situation as I know long time customers who also commented on the decline of service here. Might be different in non-peak times, but then you need to increase the amount of chefs during peak times.

Awesome views from the Oyster Deck! Had grilled fish and chips/French Fries. Hake was so good and well-made. Same with the fries. Really nice tartare sauce and atchar salad to go with it. The virgin Strawberry Daiquiri did not disappoint.

Definitely THE best seafood pizza and hake that I have EVER had😱 omw!! Beautiful view and great atmosphere. Definitely my new favourite seafood restaurant 😁🩵

END OF AN ERA - I have been going to the legendary Brass Bell for nearly 40 years. Each time with a gap of a few years. I have seen the development and the changes over the years but until today, I have always had a good experience. Today our food was poor (seafood platter for two - R 1199), some orders (drinks and food) didn’t arrive at all. We were even billed for food we never got. Service charge is included so there is no incentive for service to improve. The seafood platter for two (at double the price of the platter for one) was about 20% bigger than the seafood platter for one. It was cold. The rice was hard like pellets. There was a small amount of starch (the rice) for two people. The mussels were served in a thick starchy cheese sauce. It was really disappointing. Mostly because I know I will never go back there again. An end of an era.

Server Mandy was fantastic. Food very disappointing. Worst piece of fish I think I've ever had in a restaurant. Great setting. Next time will be drinks only.

We had an incredible lunch on 1 Jan 2026. The view is spectacular and the food is delicious. We’ll be back soon.
