"The 1970’s seemed like an awesome time. It was a decade that gave us a lot of memorable moments, like the rise to power of Ziploc bags, and the invention of the pocket calculator. Unfortunately, my only experience with the 70’s is a trio of Austin Powers movies. The good news is they are awesome movies. The bad news is - well, no bad news really, other than the fact Austin Powers might have been the last funny movie Mike Myers made. Here’s where we are going with this - if you’re trying to experience a little bit of the ‘70s, The Brass Monkey is the spot. The decor is excellent. While Austin Powers was meant to be a comedic parody of super spy and all around ladies man James Bond, Brass Monkey is truly a mix of the two iconic men of mystery. The place showcases ‘70s style bright colors, elaborate patterns, and a mirrored ceiling in a cool and creative way. The concept is seriously seen in the food too, because Brass Monkey boast two very distinct menus - Brasserie, and Hits Of The ‘70s. While the Brasserie menu is more or less standard French cuisine, its counterpart is a particular ode to the past. The Hits Of The ‘70s menu offers things you’d expect to find at a shagadelic dinner party, like baloney sliders, “The Cheese Ball” with Ritz crackers, pork chop with apple sauce, and a TV dinner. But the obvious question is does Brass Monkey manage to make any of this work. The answer is yes and no, and that goes for items on both menus. The best way for us to put it is the food will leave you satisfied. You won’t be overly impressed, but nothing has left us that disappointed either. The Brasserie is your best bet for quality food, but Hits Of The ‘70s is playful and entertaining enough that we're willing to forgive the fact some dishes probably won't ever be better than ok. Even though we aren’t comfortable giving rave endorsements on the food, Brass Monkey is a place we like for certain occasions. Along with the decor we are so high on, dim lighting and bumpin music make it a cool place to hang, and we think this little stretch of Hubbard and Morgan just north of Fulton Market will continue to attract more restaurants and bars. Just be careful if you go to the bathroom - it's like a carnival funhouse room full of too many doors down there. Get turned around and you'll need some serious spy moves to find your way out. Food Rundown Spanish Calamari Grilled calamari in a roasted tomato sauce with wild boar sausage. The sauce is heavy on the tomatos, but the calamari itself is good. Braised Short Rib A hunk of braised short rib in a red wine reduction with mashed potatoes, kale, onions, and acorn squash. Nothing that jumps out at you, but a solid piece of meat and potatoes. The acorn squash is good too. Squid Ink Linguini The pasta itself has good flavor, and we like the large shrimp and scallops that come in it. Together with the not so spicy chili-saffron cream sauce, it's an overall good dish. White Cheddar Mac & Cheese If you want a side of mac and cheese, then you should go ahead and order a side of mac and cheese. Meatballs Wild boar meatballs in a grape jelly glaze with roasted grapes. The jelly glaze definitely gives the meatballs a sweet taste. Food in the '70s was weird, but these are weirdly tasty. Cheese Fondue A small container of melted cheese with tater tots and house-made hot dogs for dipping. The hot dogs kind of taste like boloney dogs, and otherwise you're dipping tater tots in cheese. Mushroom French Bread Pizza It's really doughy pizza, but we like the combination of mushrooms, arugula, and truffle mushroom cream sauce. Bananas Foster Pudding Give us all of the Bananas Foster Pudding. Literally, all of it. Banana pie meets bananas foster with this banana pudding, bourbon caramel, and caramelized bananas. Holy moly is this a good dessert." - Sam Faye

Google
We were a little bummed about this place. It looks super cool on the outside with the building and signage, stage, party bus, and also inside with the door, the decorations, the records on the wall, we ordered drinks from the bar which were good, then we ordered dinner and it was pretty good overall, the rice was mushy for both of us, and brussel sprouts were undercooked, but everything else tasted good. It was also too much food, the entrees we got came with rice and it was a huge plate of food then you also got two sides with it as well, neither of us could have finished it all. The staff were all standing around hanging out being kind of loud but the service wasn’t the best. Overall it was a decent experience thought the building and everything was cool, the food was decent, service wasn’t good and it was expensive. I think this place has so much potential to be everything but it was kind of disappointing.

A town hotspot for good friends to have a great time. Quality local beef, unique feature meals regularly, and excellent cocktails. Brass Monkey’s draft beer choices always have some comfort brews, with a few chance takers that are a fun option to sample. The bathrooms bright studio lights are a photo op waiting to happen, especially if you happen upon a rubber banana in the urinal. Lots of hospitality and humor from the bartenders and service staff. Tremendous parking lot and street parking available. A higher price point than some peoples comfort level, but you absolutely get what you pay for. Very approachable if you just want a beer and a burger. Would go back again.

Had a ball today eating here with my friends. Waiter was prompt and the food was impeccable. Best burger I have eaten out in years. Don't know where they get their bacon from, but that alone will keep me coming back for more. The French fries, just fluffy and delicious. Can't wait to eat here again, their menu has a vast variety of combos I'm eagerly wanting to try!!!

Google
We really like this bar and grill, the atmosphere is great, people are also great, but today the food was a complete miss for us, we ordered French onion soup that came out Luke warm, the cheese didn't even melt in it, we ordered some type noodle bowl, it was warm enough but it was extremely salty, I tried to eat it but I had to stop, it's like someone dumped an entire salt Shaker in it. We will give the brass monkey another try, maybe it was just a bad night. But only one more chance.

Google
Service was phenomenal. The vibes were awesome. The food wasn’t anything exceptional, and the chicken was tasteless, the pasta was tasteless. Like had no salt or something i am not sure what was going on. Overall 3/5 because of the service. But the food was below mid

Google
We had a lovely time! The drinks were delicious and affordable. The southwest rolls were unique and not what we were expecting, but they tasted yummy nonetheless. I really enjoyed my burger and fries. Our server was helpful and attentive without being overbearing. The atmosphere was quiet which is nice for a bar. I loved the decorations as well. All in all I'm glad we came by!

Google
Brass Monkey is beautifully decorated and makes use of its well thought-out theme with an interesting menu. The drinks were delicious and well made, Id recommend going here off of the drink experience alone. The food however just fell flat of my expectations, providing only a moderately satisfactory experience. The southwestern roll was tasty but felt thrown together and thoughtless, essentially just fried pucks covered in sauce served with a side salad? It wasn’t bad just kinda weird. I had the brass burger as my main entree, the fries were really good and crispy but the burger could have used lettuce and tomatoes as it quickly became boring to eat. The ingredients were good quality and cooked well, and overall I was content with my food.

Google
(ignore Rebecca Bales, an obvious "philistine") I have eaten in restaurants from D.C. to L.A., Tampa, New Orleans, Dallas and many others. I have NEVER experienced such a perfect meal that blended this well (and I'm friends with chef Braun of "Blu Fusion" in Marco Island, FL). The "White Chicken Chili" was a dish I would demand be enjoyed with No Interruption from Anyone so I could concentrate on its incredible fullness of perfectly blended ingredients. The "Frisco Melt" did what the name promised with every bite. I could not believe I was actually eating a sandwich. It was more like a French pastry of the most tender beef and exquisite bacon imaginable, resting between two perfect pieces of Texas toast requiring no effort to bite through. The chef at "Brass Monkey" is truly a culinary wizard as my meal was prepared with, most likely, a wand rather than a grill. This location is an anniversary must-do or a business lunch meeting that will doubtlessly "seal the deal."

Yelp
First off, great looking place in a very old renovated brick building now the bad They ran out of unsweetened tea and here are some pictures of my $15.00 reuben, couldn't even taste or tell there was corned beef on the sandwich. The server was obviously new and untrained.

Yelp
I loved the look of the place. The decor was great and gave it a good feel. Our waiter, Sage, was so great and super attentive. Our menu options were limited as we arrived between lunch and dinner but nothing we had disappointed. Our food came out fast and we didn't have to wait for drinks at all. I will definitely be going again during dinner hours to try a steak. I really wish I had taken my phone to the restroom to take some pics because it was so dang pretty. That French onion soup was easily some of the best I've ever had!

Yelp
The food was good but expensive.. service wasn't terrible.. the patio was really nice but someone was playing the giant jenga while I was eating and it fell on the metal flooring and was extremely loud.. the bread was eh macaroni I don't recommend but the filet was good. Worth a try if your in the area. Hopefully things only get better.

Yelp
If you find yourself driving through southern Ohio, make time to stop into the Brass Monkey. My parents live in Chillicothe and my dad has been anxious to go here for awhile. I was sold once I heard about the locally sourced been the use for the bulk of the menu. It's located in an old brick building and offers a fun, old school vibe. The wood used in the tables lends a rich and warm feel with cool artwork throughout. Our favorite part though would have to be the variety of monkey statues throughout. Service was friendly and welcoming and very attentive. They have an intriguing cocktail menu to get things started. I opted for a Collins which was bright and incredibly refreshing! My husband opted for the brass old fashioned which had banana infused into the flavor. My dad heard the mushrooms were a must try and let me tell you this dish blew our minds! They were served at the table in a cast iron pan and offered more than enough for 4 people. They were cooked with savory pancetta and topped with a rich melty cheese. Make sure you take in every bit of this dish by using the crusted bread they serve to sop up all the rich juices! My husband and I opted for burgers so we could try the locally farmed grass fed beef and you can tell the fresh differences from other spots. My mom tried the Asian bowl which she loved and my dad said the pork chop special was the best chop he's ever had. They are known for having incredible steaks which based on the freshness and quality beef they use for burgers I can only imagine. We all agreed that we'll be making the trip down here again sooner than later for a steak night.

Yelp
The food was real and very good. Made by someone who is skilled and cares. Service was excellent and provided local views on development of the area. Decor was artfully done; preserving the buildings historic core with a modern garnish which added a fresh feeling.

Yelp
Great Beer! Great Food!! I wish I lived closer to Waverly OH so I could come here every weekend!

Yelp
A fine dining experience close to home! Brass Monkey is definitely offering great food and with a friendly atmosphere what more could you ask for. Started our meal off with the Thai Shrimp appetizer, Marinated chicken sandwich with house Mac-n-cheese (yum), along with the Brass Rice Bowl. Food was outstanding and the staff was amazing. Will definitely return and recommend you stop by! Placing Waverly Ohio on the foodie map! The Salyers Family :)

Yelp
Atmosphere was very nice. The food was not. I had the ribs which turned out to be akin to a fatty pot roast at your least favorite aunt's home.

Yelp
Great cashew and grilled chicken salad! Friendly service without being over the top! Nice atmosphere in the tradition of the Emmitt House.

Yelp
Went to try someplace new. great interior. Server was new, but she will improve. The food? The Appetizer: The mushrooms were bland, absolutely no flavor. The mushrooms have no seasoning. Can't depend on bland butter and strong cheese to create a flavor. Side dish: The "risotto" looked LITERALLY like slightly undercooked basmatti rice in cream of mushroom soup and cheese, and still flavorless. The salad, fries, and steak saved the meal, barely. I paid the full price for the meal because they will need the money for survival. If management can't see that there is a full untouched dish gets returned and management can't tell tell that the guest is sparing the embarrassment of the restaurant by saying "everything is okay" (with a full appetizer sitting RIGHT THERE) and NOT trying to find out WHY or what was wrong with the dish..then the ego of the person who created it is too out of reach until another person with working tastebuds says something. Best wishes, I hope they taste their dishes before putting it on a menu, or at least revamp that particular dish.

Tina T.

Yelp
The food is amazing, the drinks are superb, the ambiance is perfect and the service is stellar! This was our first visit and there will be many more to come!

Yelp
We ordered the brass burger and cashew chicken salad. Both were excellent. Service was great and the atmosphere on the patio was relaxing. I would recommend. Can't wait to go back for dinner.

Yelp
My husband and I like to try new places. Unfortunately we don't have to many to try living rural, between Chillicothe and Waverly. Being new to the area, this sounded like a great spot. We just moved back to Ohio from CA after 10 years. We started with dirty martinis, dreadful, no olive brine. Ordered a bottle of wine with dinner, it came halfway through our meal. The Rueben wontons, I was excited, thinking they would be like the Holy Grail Rueben wontons. They are not. It's a mixture of unidentifiable mush. Sad, putting corn beef, Swiss cheese and thousand island dressing in an egg roll form would be better. House salad was good. My husband ordered the braised ribs, they were absolutely amazing. I ordered the filet medium. They filet was not seasoned. It was tiny. While the cut of meat was good. The delivery was disappointing. The meals are a la carte. The Mac and cheese was dreadful. They are new. They have tweaks to overcome. We will try them again in a few months.

Yelp
Give five stars, due to being a new business, will update if things change. However, I have been here twice. The first visit, I would recommend five stars. The second visit, more like four stars to four and half. So, for now, I am still giving a five-star overall rating experience. My first visit was superb. I went with my daughter and parents. Myself, I ordered a steak, seems to be a hiccup with the sides as someone else mentioned but I ended up getting a baked potato. The steak was literally on point (I believe I went with the sirloin this time). Main chef was amazing, and this was during a pretrial week. My daughter ordered the typical mac n cheese of which she loved and the fries. I tried a few myself, really great bland. Service was also superior. The second visit was not bad by any means. However, there was an issue with my steak. Literally not to order by about three degrees off. My wife ordered her medium and mine was literally a dying cow that was still bleeding. Anyways, I brought up the complaint and the steak returned but this time a bit over kill...Also, they took my sides along with the steak and returned them both together, so I was a bit hungry. You have to be in mind, a bunch of new staff and this being like the second full week after opening. However, the service was great! Also, spent some time at the bar later that evening. Colby is by far awesome! Big shout out. I would like to add, the hospitality and the waitresses I have encountered have been down to earth, quick on service and overall friendly. I enjoyed both of my encounters here and will definitely be a repeating customer!

Yelp
I came across this restaurant awhile back on Facebook and have been wanting to try it. We ate here on a Saturday about 3 pm. Our server showed us to our seats. She was very friendly and attentive. We ordered fish tacos and The Brass Burger with fries. The fish tacos were good. The burger was DELICIOUS! Not sure what the brass burger sauce is but it went really well with the burger, bacon, american and mozzarella cheese. The fries were seasoned but not salty which I like. Our food was hot. If there was one thing I would suggest, it would be to offer a variety of Ohio draft beers. The three local beers on draft were all IPAs. Since I don't like IPAs I settled on Miller Light. They do have the usually beers on draft like Coors Light, Michelob Ultra etc. So it's not really a complaint (therefore I did not take away a star) just a suggestion. I recommend The Brass Monkey and will definitely be returning.

Patrick J.

Yelp
Mushrooms were killer! Also had the breakfast burger which was pretty good too. Sweet vibe and good service

Yelp
Amazing restaurant for waverly Ohio!! The beef from ewings farms is amazing. Seen a review that the food was bland and it is far from bland.

Adrienne B.

Yelp
Went for dinner and was definitely impressed for such a new restaurant. Ambiance was great, menu had good options. I got the short ribs, they were fucking amazing. So tender, much larger portion than expected. Definitely worth the $18. Sides were a la crate which is where you'll spend some $$$. Got a baked potatoe and veg of the day. Can't really screw up a baked potato and the veg was broccoli & zucchini. That was disappointing, they were barely cooked, had some form of garlic butter on them and that was it. I'd suggest to roast them or sear them but they were horribly blanched and seasoned. BF had a 16 oz ribeye, said the potato salad was amazing, baked beans were good, drinks were good. Definitely will be back, hoping they can work out the kinks with the sides/ veg.
