"Located about 10 minutes from downtown, Brass Ring Brewing operates a taproom pouring unfiltered brew and a tiny kitchen serving tikka masala tacos, roasted pork loin, beer cheese, and house pickles. Brass Ring’s mission for its small-batch beer is simplicity. At the beginning of the pandemic, Brass Ring built outdoor structures, seating two to four people; created Neighborly IPA, which raised money for charity; and moved live events online." - Monica Williams

Google
Honestly my favorite restaurant/brewery in Grand Rapids. Every time I’ve been here I’ve been blown away by the food. Everything is AMAZING. So tasty, made from scratch and the vibes of the restaurant and friendliness of the staff is unbeatable. The beer is great! I also love all the specials on food! So many items I still want to try! Here’s a pic of the corned beef dinner (amazing) and the deviled eggs (also amazing).

Google
Best beer I’ve ever had, hands down. Staff is friendly and the bar is always full of friendly locals. Don’t want it to get too popular but cannot recommend Brass Ring more highly. The Irish Red Ale is my favorite beer and I’ve yet to be let down by any of the food on the menu

Google
Great food and a wonderful atmosphere. We walked in and there was love music that transported you an old English pub, which was awesome! If there wouldn't have been music, it would still have been great. Trying a cask and draft version of the same beer is a great way to understand the difference

Google
It lived up to the actual reviews, this place is quiet, cozy and delicious. I tried the steak and the chicken and waffles. Both dishes were supreme, and the beer OMG I'm a hug fan of red ales and the beer didn't disappointed at all. 10/10. My only concern is that I won't be able to come back any time soon. But If you are around GR área, give this a try.

Google
The best beer and a very good food. I got fried chicken with french fries and ranch dipping sauce. The beer was pale yellow and very tasty and good. Awesome!

Chase Hasper

Google
A great spot with a great hole-in-the-wall feel; the kind of place you’re looking for for a casual sit down. Their food had some creativity to it, more so than I would have guessed from the pub-like setting. Our food was good and the staff was friendly and approachable. Overall our group had a good time here!

Google
We make a point of stopping here whenever we’re even close to the neighborhood. The cask ales are a delight. I believe that the pot pie has rotated off the menu for the summer, but my husband said it was the best he’d had. (Second place was in Pennsylvania almost thirty years ago.)

Google
It would be very difficult to find a better dining or brewery experience than this. I was briefly in this neighborhood for a car service and this was my lunch choice. Everything excelled to the fullest extent, the turkey club, my brewery choice, the atmosphere on the patio, and service from Darren. I wouldn't hesitate a second to revisit and try other options from the food and drink menu. The kitchen staff, brewmaster, and servers have unparalleled talent here!

Yelp
This place is a gem! Cute atmosphere inside, a nice patio outside and great service. The Butter Chicken Naanrito was delicious!! I'm from AZ and loved finding a place that was filled with locals The only downfall was watching all the people lined up to get ice cream (and enjoying it) next door as I was too full to indulge!!

Elizabeth D.

Yelp
We love a date night at Brass Ring. The space is cozy but private and comfortable. Good vibes all around. The crowd is everything from family to friends to couples. The beer is nice and cold. I love how fresh and from scratch the food is. They really do serve the best balanced and creative spins on classic dishes. Service is always friendly and prompt. Definitely recommend.

Yelp
My husband and I have traveled to over 86 breweries in this state- and this spot found its way up to top 5 easily. The custom cocktails were delicious- great spirits and fresh ingredients. The cask beers? My husband said it was the smoothest IPA he's ever had in his life. The food? Some of the best brewery food I've ever had. The beer cheese was delicious. My husband got the Cuban and it was great.. and my naanarrito? No words.. delicious. Only thing was the loaded curry fries. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and kept our drinks filled at all times. If you are in the GR area, this place is a must stop.

Yelp
I'm not sure why I haven't written a review of Brass Ring before because I've been there loads of times! In my opinion, Brass Ring strives to be the heart of Alger Heights. The food and drinks are excellent, and their menu changes regularly. But my favorite part is the people--both staff and customers. It's hard to find a restaurant where you feel like family, but I feel that way at Brass Ring. They make everyone feel like a regular, and their frequent events and celebrations will have you coming back for more.

Adrianna H.

Yelp
Great vibes and amazing food! We loved everything from cocktails to apps and dinner. Great little spot for a night out!

Yelp
Working on our dog friendly breweries in Grand Rapids list, so we visited this UK-inspired brewery in Alger Heights neighborhood. Their patio is so cute and enclosed in flowers, making it a great environment. It helps block off the road traffic making it also feel private. On top of that, the beers and food were delicious. I was pleasantly surprised by their homemade ranch as that's always hit or miss but I loved sipping my super crispy fries in it. Prices are reasonable about $15 for most things and you get great portion sizes with lots of yumminess. Our waiter was possibly the most positive person in the world. So nice and happy and bubbly; he was a joy! It was a great experience and we will definitely eat and drink here again with our dog. Parking is in back.

Yelp
Went on Mother's Day. Enjoyed a flight of their craft beer. Samantha was great as a server. My wife had chicken fingers and fries. I enjoyed a cheese sandwich and a house salad. Sitting outdoors and enjoyed the sun.

Bryce H.

Yelp
First time here after passing it multiple times. As a Bud Light drinker, I didn't know what to expect, but the server gave me hand. Fast service, good prices, great atmosphere!

Kurt G.

Yelp
Eating at the Brass Ring today. Love sitting outside when it's warm. Samantha is our server. Ordered a flight of craft beer. My wife ordered chicken tenders. I order a cheese sandwich with the house salad. So good!

Jim M.

Yelp
We showed up about 15 minutes b4 they closed on NYE. We were a party of six, just looking for a nightcap. Usually you can see it on the face of the host: "please go home". But NO!! The hostess there was SO GREAT, saying "come in in! We're still here", then she took our drink orders, giving detailed answers to our drink menu questions, even running and getting samples for my wife. We were served quickly and had a great (short) time there, we cant wait to go back. KUDOS to the hostess(didnt catch her name), that was SO congenial and excited to be there and wait on us at the very end of her day. Amazing!!!

Jawon J.

Yelp
Fantastic from brews to food. Best place I've had when visiting Grand Rapids. Big portions and cold brews. Friendly staff. The food is really legit.

Grant B.

Yelp
The fries are phenomenal. Chef alex has created a menu that will have you coming in for more than just the great beer. Was taken care of by Tim and he was relatable and personable. Fantastic service. Greg for just a beer, but you're cheating yourself if you don't order something from the menu. Cheers to Brass Ring!

Daniel D.

Yelp
Perfectly cromulent. Went in for brunch post-run. The 8 pound hammer was fine. As well the Standard breakfast. The banger was good, but one strip of bacon was beyond crispy and the other was underdone. Potatoes and toast were good, sunny side up eggs were overdone. Not bad and wouldn't mind going back -other food items looked appealing- but definitely wouldn't go out of my way to go back.

Evan S.

Yelp
My wife and I had been meaning to try Brass Ring for a while, and finally had the opportunity recently. We had heard good things from friends, and it did not disappoint! It was a busy Friday night, but we were seated right away. I had the naanrito and my wife had an order of fries. Our food came out really quickly, which was nice. I enjoyed the naanrito, and the fries were excellent and the portion was generous. I'm not usually impressed with fries, but these are an exception. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful, and we also enjoyed our beers. Definitely worth checking out!

Danielle G.

Yelp
My husband and I reserved a shanty for our last date night out before our new baby arrives! It was perfect - warm enough inside without feeling like we were getting blasted with heaters. I got the Detroit City Root Beer and he enjoyed a Danny Whizbang. He started with the soup of the day, which was described kind of like a French onion made with their beer. He loved it! I got the pretzels with English mustard and they were tasty. For our mains I got the corned beef sandwich - delightful, not too fatty or greasy. He got the cheeseburger royale with caramelized onions. Both came with fries on the side. For dessert we split the peach and blood orange tart. It was good but could have used a scoop of ice cream or something to complement it. Overall we had a great experience and would definitely come back!

Lionel B.

Yelp
Excellent experience. One of the best breweries in "beer city" Grand Rapids. Father and son beer brewers/co-owners Chris and his son Mike Gibbons run this brewery in the Alger Heights neighborhood in SE Grand Rapids. They specialize in English-style pub ales and they have a rare Cask Marque distinction from the UK. The beer, the food, the overall ambiance, the workers, etc, everything here is superb. Must try: Liquid Spirit (7.3% porter) Blue Skies (6.5% pale ale) Fryz'licious app fries, beer cheese, bacon, jalapenos, honey sriracha, carmelized onions Burger Royale double 1/4lb patties, arugula, tomato, cheese, carmelized onions, bomb sauce

Matthew R.

Yelp
I had a couple Pale Ale's and feasted on a steaming bowl of chicken pot pie. This is comfort food at its finest. That meal was like a warm sweater for my belly. I enjoy the local neighborhood feel and the relaxed vibe that makes me wish I had a cardigan and a pair warm slippers to go with my meal.

Kate H.

Yelp
The Liquid Sprit porter was so good that I left with a growler. Cute place, friendly service - definitely want to come back and try out the kitchen.

Brandon M.

Yelp
I've been here twice in one weekend, once for dinner and once for brunch and enjoyed it both times. It's family friendly and has convenient shared parking in the little shop area it's in on Alger Heights. This is a total neighborhood destination - every night of the week has some event going on (bike riding, D&d, neighborhood hangout etc) and it seems like it encourages people to be regulars with how friendly staff is (after dinner we were gong to a movie and when we saw the same staff member Sunday morning she asked how we liked the movie. Love that kind of interaction) Good beer selection on tap (as expected for a brewery) and they have something for everyone from IPAs to Stouts. Their claim to fame is cask ale, but I didn't partake in that (next time!) For dinner I had the steak, which was unfortunately a little over done (even though the menu went out of the way to talk about serving steaks at medium rare) - still good but not great. For brunch I had steak and eggs and was pleased with both - this time the steak was closer to medium rare. They're very family friendly - they have kids menus and are very accommodating to kid requests. Bottom line - great local brewery with good food.

Jackson G.

Yelp
First time visitor, and hardly ever leave a review. That being said, this place exceeded my expectations. MATT, our server went above and beyond throughout our experience. HE, is the reason I am even leaving a review. On top of the service, the food and beer was exceptional. I will recommend and likely be back!

Derek D.

Yelp
Went there for the beer but my dinner was outstanding and the beer was just okay. Butter chicken was great, but my wife didn't like the steak and ale Our server was outstanding

Susan F.

Yelp
Love this place! They are amazingly friendly and the beer and food are wonderful. It's a small place with a beer garden. Check their hours before you go because they aren't open until 4 on weekdays. If you like a solid beer with a heavy, UK influence (including some cask ales) without pretension and a great menu, visit these nice folks. You won't be disa

Tiana T.

Yelp
This is such an under-appreciated place. I mention this place to people and it's a 50/50 shot that they have heard about it. Spread the word! Out in Alger Heights, this brewery has quite a range of offerings. They have a great variety of batch brewed beers as well as wine and ciders. The menu has a solid pub range of food. They have burgers to curry and a few things in between. They also just moved to market price steak and fries from (I think) a standard sirloin and fries. When we went, the chef's choice cut was a 12oz ribeye. The beau got the curry and inhaled the entire plate before I was even halfway through with the fries. He liked that they included some pickled onion to help with texture. The steak was cooked great and the fries paired well with the aioli. Now that it's cold and still covid, you can reserve 1 of 4 shanties outside. There are 3 or 4 slots on 3 or 4 days. The website walks you through the reservation process. You also get plenty of reminders as your reservation date approaches. They are taking safety seriously. You check-in and confirm that you are part of only 1 household. There is tape on the floor evenly spaced while you wait with your party for the shanties to be cleaned and prepped. The shanties are warm and comfortable, it didn't feel like it was 24 out at all.

Sharon S.

Yelp
We enjoyed eating in one of their little shanties! Keep these please...even when you don't have to for COVID. I had the curry and my husband had your burger - both delicious! I LOVED the 8 pound hammer stout! Our service was top notch too!

Nay W.

Yelp
There was a slight wait at the front to be seated. Today, there are two different cask ales on draft. I liked that he did NOT take the menus once he took our order. This way, if we decide to order more, the menus are still here.

Mike E.

Yelp
Michael was our server and we found out at the end of the night also the head brewer and the owner ! You have to respect a leader who is not afraid to pick up and do all the jobs ! Great deviled eggs , and bar cheese to start and the beers were great . Light but dark was my choice , very tasty . The bangers and mash , I substituted the cauliflowers for the mashers and was not disappoint. Pot pie could use a bit more seasoning, but the chicken and pickle sandwich as well as the cod spot on . My family cannot wait to go back

Julie E.

Yelp
Good food friendly service. Seems to be a neighborhood bar. Nice pub! I will return.

Mick F.

Yelp
Stopped in for Sunday noon snack and brews. Scotch eggs were very good. Manchester Dark Mild brew very good..nice n mild, great flavor. GF had the Rock Steady Brown which also was great. Short visit, but we'll be back to try more.

Keith R.

Yelp
We got to enjoy a delicious Irish meal at @brassringbrewing yesterday!!! They have their St. Patrick's Day meal happening right now and I suggest getting there ASAP! We started with the beer cheese appetizer that came with two pretzels and bread. The cheese was warm and had the consistency of melted cream cheese. The pretzels were soft and buttery with a crispy bottom. The combo of them was fantastic!!! The Shepherd's Pie wasn't quite like what I'm used to, but it was full of flavor! I usually like more potatoes, but the lamb had so much flavor that I was happy it wasn't full of potatoes. The Corned Beef Sandwich reminded me of a sandwich I make at home. While it was still great, I would order something that's much harder to make yourself. The fries there are some of the best in Grand Rapids!!! P.S. Don't forget, they have amazing beer there too!

Julia N.

Yelp
Enjoyed the atmosphere, service and food. This is a relaxed atmosphere with limited but cozy seating. The serve was friendly and pleasant. The beer cheese was great and served as a great dip for the soft and warm pretzels that came with it. The Fryz'licious were good but too spicy for me. I chose to pair this all with a Pink Lady Shandy drink. It was good, but not my go to for next time.

Ben K.

Yelp
I've never used the words "fresh" and "beer" together. But that's exactly what I found at Brass Ring. The beer is brewed in small batches and you won't find any additives or fillers among the ingredients. My wife has always been a fan of mixed drinks and ciders ... but she was never a beer fan. Until I brought home some Irish Red. I ended up going back a couple days later, this time leaving with more Red and a couple of shandys. Both were a hit. The owners and staff are very down to earth people and fun to shoot the breeze with. I'm a fan.

Danielle K.

Yelp
Most of our experience was stellar! Our server could have not been more friendly! The beer was beer nothing that stood out but still good! But the food was all absolutely amazing, I don't think I've ever been offered food like that from a brewery before! With there card reader you can not see your bill before you pay, Not sure of it to save on paper but after we paid we asked for the print out and we were over charged. Only by a $1 but he never came back so we eventually just left! Then my friend had remembered dropping her ring but forgot to pick it up! We called and he said he couldn't find it so we decided to drive back because it was from her grandma, it was sitting right there, literally didn't even take 5 seconds to find it. So I felt as once we left we didn't matter.

Zane M.

Yelp
Great service. Fantastic beer. The food did not disappoint. They said my review is too short. But I think this place is worth the 5stars so instead of giving up. Here I am typing more words.

Moe D.

Yelp
Awesome food and great beer. Matt gave us better service at this place then I've had at any restaurant in the last 2 years.

Alicia R.

Yelp
Nicest server ever and the food was pretty good. Not much selection for a non beer drinker but it comes with the territory unfortunately.

Jill Y.

Yelp
Love the people and the environment but the food... no. Went for brunch and had the chicken and waffles. The waffles were actually Eggos and the chicken was a piece of breaded frozen chicken with minimal flavor. I'm sorry, but it was awful.

Marianne G.

Yelp
This is a great new brewery. I have been here a few times, including on opening night (and although it was insane in there that day, everyone was still very friendly and helpful in the pure chaos of it all). They have about 12 beers on tap at any given time, and they have a small food menu as well. Their food is actually quite good too! I have had the beer cheese dip, which comes with toasted bread and soft pretzels, and I have also had a grilled cheese sandwich. The beer is mostly good. There are a couple that are not great, but I would say about 75% of their beer is very enjoyable. I would recommend getting all 12 of their beers in a flight version. It is very fun to do with a friend and doesn't end up being that expensive.

Brittany G.

Yelp
I can't rave about this brewery enough! I'm we came here on Fat Tuesday for the paczki burger that we read about in mlive and instead we got a full on Mardi Gras experience. We walked in to a full house with live polka music and beer hall style seating. The red ale we ordered was great and the paczki burger came out quickly and tasted PHENOMENAL! The wait staff was extremely friendly and it felt like such a family vibe. Even my boyfriend, who hates going out to try new food, has requested to come back monthly for the amazing atmosphere!

Anthony G.

Yelp
The Good: I was trying this place out with a friend as it recently opened Jo in the Alger Heights neighborhood. Since it was a beautiful day, we chose to sit outside - which was a lovely outdoor space compared to others around town. It also had plenty of shade and seating. Disclaimer - I'm not much a beer drinker, but really enjoyed what I got - Crazy Diamond. I ordered the Chicken Salad Sammy (photo below) which was really good (but a little dry for my liking) and a nice sized portion. The Feedback: not much to critique, but would say the chicken salad was a little dry and large sized nuts, but it could be their take on the salad. Can't comment on the ambiance inside (will have to go back and check it out!). Overall, a great addition to the neighborhood, solid serving, food, and drinks. We'll be back.

K K.

Yelp
The pot pie, steak, and deviled eggs are awesome. Staff is super helpful and look like they actually enjoy their job. Haven't tried everything on the menu yet but these three are great. Big dining area and outdoor area too so there's plenty of room. Lots of off the street parking also for bigger parties.

L K.

Yelp
So good! The food is amazing- British flare (curry, fish and chips, bangers and mash etc) and incredible beer. One of the only places in the state that offer cask ale which is super smooth and delicious. Service is great, ambiance delightful. A true gem in the Alger heights neighborhood!

patrick g.

Yelp
Best staff ever. Was amazed at how good the food was. I'd say it was 10/10 as well as the drinks. Will be coming back again for sure. This place is slept on!!!!

Bart C.

Yelp
We came into Grand Rapids for a wedding, driving from Nashville. I would have made the drive for the beer alone. It is absolutely obvious that the folks that run this place are total beer nerds. I personally recommend the liquid spirit porter. I don't think I have EVER had better. Dinner was great too, but the beer is the star. So, so good! If ever you are in in Grand Rapids, come here. You will not be disappointed.

Greg T.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem. Its out of the way, but amazing staff and the beer is true to the english style. The food was the best i have had a a brewery. A special for valentines day. A Fillet stacked onto of a corn crab cake with rosted Asparagus. It was cooked perfectly! Mike the manager was awesome as our waiter...this is a great place to relax with friends or a partner. Highly recommended!

Michelle P.

Yelp
met up with some friends @8 on a Saturday night. food order seemed to take a while. got a few appetizers (bar cheese and some loaded fries). loaded fries were covered in sour cream (hubby must've missed that as dairy is no bueno for him). we picked around the sour cream - fries were good. friends had the bar cheese and really enjoyed it. i ordered corn chowder for dinner, yum. nice big chunks of potato in the soup. friends ordered salad (dressing on the side - had to ask for it after getting served), chicken sandwich. hubby ordered chicken thai dish. they all really liked their food. was brought out separately. mine and friend, then, hubby, then other friend. took a few minutes for everyone to get their food. staff friendly, but not overly attentive. was a nice evening out, dunno when we'll be back, mostly due to inconvenient location for us.

Marlene T.

Yelp
Fantastic beers and delicious food. Every brew we tried was amazing. Highly recommend!

Tommy F.

Yelp
A newer addition in Grand Rapids. A friendly nice intimate space. I sampled about 8 beers, all were clean a true to style, nothing to over the top. I especially liked the "No Half Measures" Brut ale, a fully attenuated pale ale, crisp and clean. Danny Whizbang ESB was a real treat, a solid ESB. Country Preacher Pale ale was very tasty. The stout was very flavorful but lacked the body I like in a stout. All in all I would definitely check them out, good solid beer in a nice atmosphere.

Lilly P.

Yelp
Cute lil place. Great food! But my glass had lip stick which wasn't mine on it. and our server was hardly at our table. I think they just needed more people working. So if they were better staffed and cleaned better I'd give five stars! The bathroom was really nice and clean though! We had the pulled chicken Sammy and it was AMAZING. and the fries were soooo good.

Corey K.

Yelp
I came in on a Saturday afternoon for a late lunch. The ESB is good. The pork belly tacos are average; I wouldn't really recommend them, but they're fine. The bar was about a third full and it was LOUD. I've been in a lot of busy breweries, and this was strangely loud for it's sum. It might be the acoustics in the place - it's like a long concrete tube. Overall, this is a fine place to grab a beer, but if you want to have a conversation you might want to look elsewhere. Update: After coming back a couple more times, my overall impression has improved. It can get noisy, but the food and beer make up for it. Definitely worth the walk over if you're in the neighborhood.

Betty S.

Yelp
Lunch was great spending time with my grandchildren. They had the PBJ Sandwiches w/sliced Fruit and veggies. I had the Pork Belly Tacos they was great and grandson enjoyed them as well.
