Brasserie Bernard is my go to when I’m not sure where to eat, it never disappoints. Having dined here over a dozen times, I’ve worked my way through most of the menu: tartares, burger, steak frites, salmon, doré, duck confit, and more. Everything is consistently well executed and flavorful. Today I had the pleasure of being seated by Julie, who also checked on us throughout the meal. When I accidentally dropped some money while reaching for my wallet, she immediately came looking for me, a gesture that shows her professionalism and care. She’s an outstanding asset to the restaurant. The brasserie has a great wine selection, solid cocktails, and the kind of warm, classic atmosphere that makes you want to linger. Reliable, refined, and welcoming, Brasserie Bernard is always a safe bet in Outremont. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Google
Our first time at Brasserie Bernard. Very busy (a good sign!), vibrant and beautiful restaurant. Our food was good (oysters, French onion soup and steak & frites were delicious, the burrata salad less so). Recommended wine pairings were great. Service was excellent and very friendly. Really enjoyed the experience!

Google
We thoroughly enjoyed getting away from tourists and digging into an excellent neighborhood brasserie. The service was friendly and top notch. Everyone made us feel welcome and offered explanations and assistance in making choices when needed. The lamb shank, salmon tartare, and chicken liver mousse were highlights, along with Bernard’s Cocktail. Only note is the menu on the website didn’t match the menu in person. Several items were different, though the classics were definitely there.

My friend, daughter, and I had a fabulous time at Brasserie Bernard. This spot is our go-to bistro every time we visit Montreal. We ordered from the table d'hôte, and each dish, from the soup to dessert, was delicious and perfectly suited to the cold, rainy day we were there. The food was superb, the service was gracious, and the ambience offered that expected old-world charm—warm and truly welcoming.

The food, service and drinks here were excellent. There were three in our party and we all had beer, cocktails and wine along with appetizers and entrees, and everyone was happy. The staff were all very friendly and knowledgeable, and the duck, salmon and veal ravioli entrees were impeccable. The atmosphere and ambiance was great and the place went from being dead to completely packed on less than an hour. I was in town for business and will definitely return when I am back in Montreal.

Google
Loved this place for a nice dinner. Great menu and the service was so great with frequent check ins and water refills. We had a problem with our order and they fixed it right away. 11/10! Would come back again.

Google
Friendly welcome and we were given the choice of a few tables. Wait staff was good, however one waitress was very quick to remove the plates without asking if we were done. Food was fresh and tasty however the fish was not hot(warm at best) the side of fries was cold (the waiter did try to change them however). Nice atmosphere but can get very loud at times. All in all we had a pleasant evening and we ate well even though meal was not hot.

Google
Food is classic and consistent but the best here is the service which is so hard to find now in Montreal. Always a good time to come here with family or friends. It’s also a great alternative to downtown when some friends drive - easy paid parking in front or free one walking distance.

Yelp
Wife and I were staying in downtown Montreal so we took an uber here. It was around a 20 minute ride. We didn't realize it was so far out when we were looking at the menu online. But regardless, it was worth it. It was nice to check out another neighborhood of the city, as Outremont is a bit more cozy and residential with lots of nice reastaurants, bars, and shops. We went for dinner and grabbed a couple seats at the bar. The food was delicious. We ordered the chicken liver and the steak tartare, and both were top notch. For dinner we split the duck and it was cooked to perfection, not greasy at all and with nice crispy skin. Staff was friendly and service was on point.

Yelp
Our Canadian friends picked this place and what a good place it was! Very typical French food (the Moules were as good as the ones we had in Brussels) and the Veal Ravioli was superb! The service was impeccable. Every time our shell-bowl started to fill up, one of the servers came by and replaced it with a fresh one. This was a truly lovely dinner in a sweet part of Outremont (the streets are only open to pedestrians in the Summer!) Make a reservation, and if you can't get one online, call the restaurant! Go early (6pm) before it gets really busy!

Yelp
I was directed to a particular restaurant on the same street by a local friend but it was closed so I came here instead. I had a nice spot on the outside patio. The staff was typical French with attitude but I was well taken care of. I had the Lamb burger: pistachio and almond pesto, caramelized onions, with fries. This was very flavorful. Loved all the toppings. Well cooked. The fries were very crisp but tasty. Liked the mayo dipping sauce. The bread basket to start was also great. I had to keep myself from eating it all. Several options of bread - all tasty. I definitely liked this traditional French brasserie. The food and staff attitude was what I wanted!

Yelp
Lovely ambiance to enjoy Excellent moules frites. Will be back next time I'm up there.

Yelp
Alex made our family reunion so special. The food and atmosphere are of the best in town. Highly recommend.

Yelp
I'm still on the fence about this place. Lots of pros and cons to consider. My family and I went for my mother's birthday last night. Pros: -Food was good but not every meal was good (the beef tartare was excellent, the fish and chips was good, but the mac and cheese was bland and boring. I got tired of eating it and for me to get tired of eating mac and cheese, it means it's real bad. Although, to be honest it was on the kids menu and I asked for an adult portion. But I can't imagine kids liking it either.) -Marc was an excellent server. Nice, attentive, always around to help. -The outdoor terrace is comfortable -Oysters are $1/each on Monday's Cons: -The busboys were all over the place. Bringing the wrong items, dropping plates and glasses, mixing up which plate went to which person, forgetting to bring water and utensils. -The tables on the terrace are tiny! No room to share or eat comfortably. I think for the prices this place charges, it should be much better. But my mom enjoyed it and that's what matters.

Yelp
I won a Yelp contest to taste Brasserie Bernard's late night menu. This lovely French spot is located on Bernard street in Outremont and odds are you've probably passed by if you've walked or driven by Bernard street before. Their late night menu starts as of 9 PM and offers a wonderful variety of appetizer and main course for $27 which is quite a deal considering the quality and presentation of their food. For the appetizer, I ordered the fried calamari which was really good and quite rich as you can imagine. It came with a really nice sauce and lemon to compliment the dish. For the main course, I ordered the classic salmon tartare which was excellent and on the spicy side which ( the way I like it). The dish also came with a choice of fries or salad. I balanced my meal with the salad. Last but not least, the desserts!!!! I shared a maple pudding chômeur and a dark chocolate fondant. Both were served with ice cream and absolutely heavenly and worth every calorie. Overall wonderful experience, great service, great food and wonderful ambiance at a very reasonable price if you're willing to dine a bit later. I would definitely come back again. Thank you Yelp and Brasserie Bernard!

Yelp
If you can beat the crowds and get a seat during dinner time, this is one of my absolute favorite places to go for casual but elevated french fare. I've been here 3-4 times now, and without fail I always get the beef tartare - it's one of the best I've ever had. Their mussels "à la marinière" is also finger-licking delicious (don't forget to dip your bread in that sauce), and when I'm with friends, I love to order an oyster platter. (A few years ago, when I came they had $1 oysters on Monday but not sure if it's still going on!)

Yelp
Came here with 2 friends for dinner and sat on the terrasse, which was great. The atmosphere is nice and cozy and the decor is chic with a Parisian style. The service was good, our waitress gave us her recommendations and made sure we had everything we needed. We had to ask for a few things extra, but overall the service was great. We ordered a glass of wine each and a few appetizers to share. I had the salmon tartare and warm goat cheese on a brioche. Everything was good. However, everything on the menu is pretty pricey. I don't mind paying more for high quality food, but there was just nothing special to it. It was good. I'd go back on a date night since the decor is so nice and romantic - but only for drinks and appetizers.

Yelp
Excellent french bistro food, nice Brasserie ambiance, and the service is always top. They have long time employees, always a good sign. We go very frequently, and it is always a very good experience each time

Yelp
Extra yummy! Everything very artfully done; the price is a bit high, but it's worth the quality. The Romeo cold soup nicely blended cucumber with yogurt and dill to create an ever-refreshing soup. It's a good appetizer paired with the caprese salad. That salad contained equal amounts of cheese and tomato, artfully positioned, sprinkled with a bit of balsamic vinegar. The braised veal ravioli contained some very nice flavors. Likely the wine contributed to its sense of depth and weight, while the cream sauce made the dish a bit richer, but not overly so. The roasted scallops with risotto were tender; the risotto was seasoned with saffron, giving it a rather distinctive taste. I typically don't like saffron, but it worked here. All in all very nice!

Yelp
This is place is one my favorites. It's a cozy place with a french touch. You can go there with a date or a good friend to gossip. It's in the Outremont neighborhood, which is chic and classy. The waiters are very nice and polite, you feel their long training which rare in Montréal! I love their crispy bread with a touch of butter, that they serve before food. I ask for a pint of draft Grolsch beer. Also, I don't read the menu, since I always choose the same dishes: I start with a dozen of oysters, then a grilled hanger steak with white wine and thyme shallots and fries, accompanied. It's simply delicious.....

Yelp
I came here with my friend for lunch. I thought the terrace was really nice with enough space. Our waiter was attentive and professional. However, it is a pricey menu. I don't mind paying more when the food is worth it, but I didn't think there was anything exceptional with my dishes. I got the lunch special, which is 24$ for a table d'hôte and that includes an entrée and a meal. I had a salad that lacked flavor and the duck since they were out of the other option. The duck itself was rough, although the more cooked parts were tender. I didn't finish it. I did like the vermicelli and veggies though. I also tried my friend's lentil soup, which was good, but it tasted like it would anywhere else. I think this place is overpriced for what it is.

Yelp
While visiting Montreal and my family's cousin we had a little family gathering at Brasserie Bernard. I was a little worried by the 2 reviews on Yelp but our hosts had been to Brasserie Bernard previously and enjoyed their experience. Brasserie Bernard is in in the Outremont section of Montreal. It was an easy 10-15 minute Uber ride from our hotel near Old Montreal. The restaurant is a beautiful French-inspired bistro. It really reminded me of Paris. It was a pleasant June evening and the windows were open and they had tables outside available. The food we had on this night was excellent. The dishes our party of 6 chose were the Muscles, the Duck Confit, Beef Tartar and the Fried Calamari. The Duck Confit was excellent and the came with an arugula salad. The muscle dish was very big and the leek and cheddar broth was very tasty. The fries were good too. The calamari was crispy and tender. We had a few great desserts but the standout was the Pudding chomeur with maple syrup, Wow that was good. The service all night was great and the staff was very friendly, the meal for 6 people including taxes and tips with a few beers was around $USD195.00. This was reasonable for a restaurant of this quality and charm.

Yelp
I love this place The ambience is beautifully set, with the very best top notch service and plates to match. Perfection The one downside is that they are no longer open for brunch!

Yelp
One our favorites. It's a cozy place with a European touch. It's in the Outremont neighborhood, which we always like t visit

Yelp
I came here for dinner with my aunt and I loved it! The food is very good! I would have given it five stars but the service wasn't the best. For example, the waiter filled my aunt's glass with water but didn't fully mine even though mine was empty and I was really thirsty. Also I practically had to chase after the waiter to order a second cocktail. So I started wit the gin aperol cocktail. I had smthg similar at mousso but less fancy looking. I'm starting to realize that gin n aperol is a great mix n should try to make it at home. I also had the jalapeno margarita. It wasn't too spicy. We shared the grilled octopus entree. It was very good but I wouldn't say it was the best I've had. Then I had the duck confit as a main and my aunt had the classic salmon tartare and ordered fries. It was all very good. No complaints here. For dessert we had the fondant au chocolat. If I can tear myself out of bed I will come back and try their brunch.

Yelp
Yup. Still the same inconsistency. Service is slow, poorly coordinated, and sloppy. Food is lacklustre. On a recent family evening for a table of 8, not only did they bring out dishes in the wrong order (appetizers and main course at the same time), it took extra time to wait for everyone while they caught up. Something that is not complicated got complicated. Kudos for my waitress who recognized the problem and offered to bring back food to the kitchen until ready. I declined given it was just salad and chicken. This place has the potential to be a neighborhood favorite. But with so-so food and inexperienced staff, it just becomes a last resort option versus a destination of choice. Improve the food and get better organized and it turns around almost immediately because so much else is going for it (location, ambiance).

Yelp
This is currently our favourite Outremont restaurant and we recommend it highly. We have dined at Brasserie Bernard 2x - once in a group at the bar for a PhD graduation celebration (April) and then a regular table for a special evening out (May). In the bar, I enjoyed the salad immensely and light dessert menu. We both had the salmon in the main restaurant. Delicious and beautiful presentation. The wine list is very comprehensive. The servers are charming, knowledgeable and good humoured-even when the crowds arrived. Classic & artistic French environment with great energy from customers too. I might just add that 'attitude' influences enjoyment of any restaurant and any experience. Our glass was definitely half-full so we were rewarded immensely.

Yelp
Stopped in for brunch on a Saturday. Great outdoor seating along a lovely street. I got the french toast with caramelized banana and my boyfriend got the the Mediterranean casserole. We were both happy with our choices. The french toast, while very sweet, was delicious and cakey. The carmel sauce was perfect and smooth. The Mediterranean casserole came with spicy sausage, egg, vegetables, a salad and bread and jam. We also were given a complimentary cinnamon raisin bread to start, which seemed to be standard at each table. Very friendly staff, clean restrooms. An overall great experience.

Yelp
Came here for a work lunch. Looks very swank when you walk in, but due to the really high ceilings, the place is really loud even when it's not packed. They have a pretty nice terrasse as well, but it was far too cold to even attempt to eat out there. There are quite a few wines by the glass which is nice, but the beer selection certainly wasn't the best. Lunch was pretty good, but nothing too special and the price tag was pretty high, even by Outremont standards (tiny appy and then fish & chips: 20$) I'd come again, but next time I would go for the mussels I think as they looked a lot better than my very fried fish et frites.

Yelp
I arrived at 10:30 and requested a table on Bernard for 5...I had reserved and they gave me a terrible table in back...I am not impress

Yelp
The mussels are delicious. Very nice French vibe. Great service and delicious fries. Indoor and outdoor seating. Charming. Great recommendation from a local. Will be here often.

Yelp
First time I've been there for brunch. The location is great. Beautiful inside and in the summer it's great because all the windows open. For brunch I had a braised beef omelette. The service was terrific, the food was terrific. The portions are a bit small, but of great quality.
google avatar

Yelp
My favourite brunch place for gatherings with friends. It's easy to find parking in nearby streets. The food is great and the atmosphere is fun. I usually get the gravlax, and am always more than satisfied. My friend always gets the eggs Benedict. Definitely a great spot.

Mario M.

Yelp
Consistently good. Great service. Nice terrasse. Very hospitable despite their "snobby clientele. Great for brunch. Gave it 4 stars instead of 5 cause management doesn't have the courage to tell their clientele crying babies are a no no in such a place
google avatar

Yvan P.

Yelp
Nice place, a lot of room on the terrace. Shared a few drinks with two friends watching the people walking by Bernard street. I wouldn't make a detour for this place, but I also have nothing negative to say about it.

Ian T.

Yelp
Great restaurant and the food was excellent but we were sitting beside a female couple and their young baby who was crying and that the woman had the audacity and bad taste to breast feed at the table. I am sorry but when I go to a restaurant it is for the food but also for the experience of the place. These women have no respect for other people and obviously have no manners.

Joe K.

Yelp
Where to start. Well joined my friends, where their table was full so we, ( a friend and I )sat right next to their table and some people from the big table came and joined to chat. Waitress being incompetent and bad mannered came to one of the ladies sitting in the large table and spoke rudely to my friend. All this to say she was incompetent and rude. Manager being also stupid putting customer last decided to take the waitress side and lost a table of 12 ppl.......

Lama A.

Yelp
The most flaky service. Some days they're right on top of things and other days the waiters just walk right by you way after you're seated without even filling your glass of water. There is a serious problem with the way this restaurant is run. It is a shame because my husband and I live right across the street and we love their brunches. But I would be nervous inviting people here or even recommending it...

Lori D.

Yelp
Recently went to Brasserie Bernard for dinner with a friend. Food was good, service was on point. I had mussels, warning - the portion is huge and yummy! Great neighborhood place!
