Dessert Review First, let’s talk about the interior—it felt like stepping into a charming Parisian café. From the rich red velvet curtains to the delicate flowers adorning each table, every detail was thoughtfully done. The ambiance was warm and romantic, made even better by the quiet atmosphere. No crowds, no chaos—just a peaceful, intimate experience. Our waiter was incredibly attentive and seated us in a cozy little nook right by a large window. It was the perfect spot to unwind and soak in the vibe. Honestly, it felt like a hidden gem. Now for the desserts: The Pot de Crème (chocolate) was absolutely divine—smooth, rich, and decadent. A must-try. The Napoleon was just okay—visually beautiful, but it didn’t quite deliver the same wow factor. All in all, it is a lovely spot with ambiance and dessert to match. Highly recommend for a quiet evening or romantic date night.

My husband and I came here to celebrate his birthday. I was expecting to savor a delicious French meal but what disappointment. I ordered the salmon fricasse. The salmon was tasteless as well as the fricasse. The French fries were the only ones that taste good.

The service was fast and friendly and the atmosphere was cozy and elegant. They have a large cocktail menu, and both drinks my party ordered (Split Decisions and Carajillo a la Roche) were so tasty! All of the food was delicious, but the Chaussons de Saumon in particular were to die for! A great spot for a date or other special occasion, or honestly just for drinks and appetizers!

Google
Great experience! The food was amazing with a very thorough wine list to compliment. You can tell the chefs take great care in providing a meal that is both delicious and decedent. We were also pleasantly surprised at the size of the portions. The duck pate was amazing, as was the burrata (paired with perfectly ripe peaches and tomatoes). Scallops and pork chop for the entree continued to exceed our expectations. We also got dessert (no pic) which was ginger cheesecake and the taste and texture were 10/10. The service was good but nothing to write home about. The free garage parking is a huge plus! Looking forward to coming back!

I’ve been here twice now and both times I’ve had phenomenal service. They are so kind have taken good care of me without me even asking or complaining. The food is 5/5 as well I haven’t had anything here yet that I haven’t devoured. All of my friends also loved their meals. It was my first time trying the croqueue monsier and it was so crispy and flavorful! The breakfast potatoes are alright, they could’ve been more crispy but well seasoned. It’s a very cute French ambience on the inside and outdoor seating. Keep in mind if you go on a busy day, they only have a couple servers at most so you will have a little bit of a wait for your meals but with good company that shouldn’t be an issue. I cannot wait to come back when they add oysters to the menu!!

Google
I asked for medium well done and what i got was a choking hazard with each bite. The only things that I had no issues with were the fries and dessert. Overall fine experience but for the amount of money i spent on what was a choking hazard instead of edible food I wouldn’t come again.

Google
A nice selection of appetizers, salads, and main courses. 2 of 4 main dishes were over salted. The staff was very friendly. We headed over to see a musical at the UC Davis pavilion and saw an ad in the program for Brasserie du Monde. Turns out if we had shown our tickets to our server we could have had a 10% discount and parking for dinner AND the show. We didn't know about this deal...now YOU know.

With its romantic ambiance and exquisite French cuisine, this is truly the French restaurant we’ve been longing for in Sacramento! 💕

Yelp
Amazing food! Excellent service. This place always makes me feel special. Such a gem right here in downtown Sacramento. Staff are so friendly and are on top of providing an amazing experience. The place looks beautiful with 2 seat tables as well as 4. There is an outdoor dining area if you want to do some people watching.

Yelp
Another fantastic dinning experience at Brasserie. We started with raw oysters, which was delicious. I also love the gravlox. The cured salmon paired very nicely with the shallots and eggs on toasted baguettes. For my main dish, I ordered the le steak frites au poivre. The ribeye was tender and tasted amazing with the brandy peppercorn sauce. It was prepared to the perfect temperature of medium rare. The fries were great as well. I am already looking forward to my next visit!

Yelp
thank you for the adding-a-zero-to-my-tip-wrong fiasco on top of a meal 10 pistachios, four slices of white bread, lone raspberry, and not one but TWO!!!! strawberries!!! And maybe 18 cabbage leaves with a tablespoon of vinagrette for 40$ they added in extra "0" to the end of my tip - making it more than the entire meal as a whole. I get making a mistake but my server friends told me that is incredibly stupid on their part bc they should verify what both the tip and total say and it sounds like they blindly typed in the tip and never double checked. resulting in me having to call for a refund which they also messed up. it's all sorted out thankfully but for a restaurant that expects you to pay for a "high quality" experience it's incredibly embarrassing. this has never happened to me or anyone i know, too

Yelp
I went here for lunch 2 times recently, the best items are duck confit, gnocchi with sunchoke crema, tartare (both beef and salmon) and french onion soup. I highly recommend all of those. The Necromancer cocktail was also delicious. Service was fast and friendly. I also love sitting outside on a nice day. I'll be back for sure.

Yelp
We decided to pick BDM for our second dinner during Sacramento's Dine Downtown 2025. With an early dinner reservation during a Sunday, street parking wasn't a problem within Sacramento's Cathedral area. Entrance was via the Esquire Tower lobby. We got seated immediately after checking in with the host. For drinks we had our usual Espresso Martini (Carajillo a la Roche) and Old Fashioned (Winter Cherry OF). Pour Commencer (to start): - Butter Lettuce and shaved Radish salad with Sherry & Dijon Vinaigrette - Puree of Roasted Sunchoke & Mushroom with Ham & Gruyère Gougère (puff pastry) Plats Principaux (main dish) - Bœuf Bourguignon - Duck Confit Cassoulet Dessert (just learned it's French) - Baba au Rhum (Sponge Cake Soaked in Spiced Rum Syrup, Apricot Preserve and Chantilly) - Gateaux au Carottes Americaine (Classic Carrot Cake with Pineapple & Cream Cheese Frosting) Mispronounciations aside, it was a decent French themed dinner for us. Though quite limited with indoor seating, they did a great job in harmonizing the full bar and decor (1930's) with the tables and chairs. The staff was attentive enough to check on us often. It was a "frequent change of tableware in between courses" kinda meal which earns BDM 5 stars.

Yelp
My coworker and I came to the cafe after our lunch at Mayahuels and ordered some drinks. I had the matcha with maybe raspberry or strawberry syrup and he had the chai. I LOVED this place. So cozy and intimate. The drinks were delicious too.

Yelp
When in Sacramento... my fav hidden gem Brasserie du Monde near the convention center. Sitting on the patio feels like a little cafe in Paris. The food and drinks so too! Had their version of an aperol spritz with the charcuterie platter. Perfection!

Yelp
My first time dining here was during this past Dine Downtown. I made a reservation since I knew it would be busy. I am glad I did given that we were not seated until 30 minutes after our original reservation time. By the time we started dinner, I had two French 75s. LOL I was impressed with their prix fixe menu because they offered five entrees. I ordered the Guillaume's Cassoulet (Duck Confit), and my best friend ordered the Bœuf Bourguignon. We both started with the soup (pureé of roasted sunchoke & mushroom, shallots, cream, ham & gruyère gougère) and finished with the Baba au Rhum (sponge cake soaked in spiced rum syrup, apricot preserve, chantilly). Unfortunately, my entree was overly salty, which is to be expected because it involves a curing process. I would like to come back to order from their regular menu to see the difference!

Yelp
Met a friend here for Happy Hour and had a wonderful experience. Nicholas, the bartender is very personable and creative. We tried a few of his signature cocktails at his recommendation and they were outstanding. Great ambience, excellent cheese plate , can't wait to return!

Yelp
It's a cute little place. But it was just not it. For starters the wait staff even questioned we had a reservation. Literally had a email confirmation. But they acted like we just snuck in, the time we were there. The food took sooo long to even get to our table. Even the bread, we waited on bread for 20 plus minutes. My partner had the duck confit. It was good no idea why it came out on a bed of beans though. And I mean quite a lot. My food? Oh I wouldn't know my scallops came out smelling of nothing but ammonia. The waitress was very sorry about it. But the kitchen just made excuses. As if my partner and I didn't have a sense of smell. ‍ I thought this was going to be a cute fun date with awesome food. But it's a big no for us.

Yelp
We were high on a wonderful Parisian vacation so my wife looked up this place. It was awesome that they had parking else it may be hard jn the downtown areas. Ella right opposite does Valet parking but they charge for it. So this was definitely a plus. As soon as we entered my 3-year old recognized the Eiffel Tower land yelled it out loud much to wait staff being impressed with this guest :-) Our server was courteous & knowledgeable about the food. We ordered drinks which were awesome. My wife ordered the mussels which come with fries that are made in duck fat. They are delicious. I got the steak which was tasty. This is the best French food in town and we will definitely come back when we have a French food craving!

Yelp
We went and tried Brasserie Du Monde for the 1st time for 2025 Dine Downtown with a couple of friends. I must say I was pleasantly surprised and impressed with the quality of food and service. Our server was attentive throughout our meal and we all enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant. Since we went on a Sunday, we were lucky enough to snag street parking but our friends parked in the Hyatt's parking garage. Most of us had the salad option for the 1st course. It was very fresh and herbaceous. One friend had the soup and really enjoyed it. 3 of us had the Beef Bourgogne and one had the risotto. Everyone enjoyed their entrees. The desserts were just ok but a nice way to end the meal and night. I would definitely recommend Brasserie Du Monde and would visit again in the future.

Yelp
My daughter picked this place, and it was perfect. In San Francisco, a fine dining place like this would be exorbitantly expensive, impossible to reserve, crowded, tiny and rushed. Here, we had a late midweek dinner with a nice view of the leafy main street all lit up beautifully, and it wasn't crowded or rushed at all. Bartender made a magnificent Old Cuban cocktail, and our waiter handled our order, including a last minute addition of oysters, with aplomb. He recommended an excellent glass of wine to go with my salad nicoise. The pate was hearty and flavorful, and my daughter's st Jacques was also excellent. We parked in the garage, conveniently. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the total bill, including a luscious crème brûlée, was well worth it. Top rating.

Yelp
I am visiting Sacramento so that I can watch my granddaughter dance in the Nutcracker. I walked by this place on my way to the performing arts center and decided to stop in for lunch. Very friendly staff. Beautiful decor. Extensive and highly varied menu. I had eggs Florentine that were absolutely delicious and perfectly cooked. A nice red wine to accompany it. In my opinion, one of the best restaurants in the country

Yelp
I feel the need to first say that when it's New Year's Eve, and you're out till midnight, this is the kind of place you're hoping to find. Atmospherically cozy with an ambiance to fit the occasion, this French restaurant is truly a gem in Sacramento. The service was knowledgeable and friendly, the food was exquisite (maybe the best beef bouvegniogn we've had), and when the the clock struck midnight, the management led the way in welcoming in the new year. A complete experience of pleasure.

Yelp
I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Brasserie Du Monde. Steak and frites is one of my favorite meals and theirs did not disappoint! My steak was cooked to perfection and my fries were fresh and crispy. My mom ordered the duck it was okay but I enjoy duck more at Chinese restaurants if that makes sense. The wine was good and complemented both of our meals. The dessert we enjoyed as well , the cheesecake was good and fresh and the crème brûlée was as expected. Can't really go wrong on crème brûlée! I definitely would come here again I would like to try their brun

Yelp
I Was lucky enough to get in on the last day of the Dine Downtown 2025 Series at Brasserie Du Monde. This looks like a fabulous restaurant and to get a three course sampling at Brasserie is an extraordinary experience. The menu's first course consisted of either the butter lettuce salad with Sherry & Dijon Vinaigrette or the Purée of Roasted Sunchoke & Mushroom soup. My girlfriend and I got one of each, both fabulous. The entrees were numerous but we both got the Bœuf Bourguignon Braised Beef Short Rib, Potatoe Pureé, Mushrooms, Snow Peas, Carrots, Red Wine Reduction. Great meaty pieces of beef in a red wine sauce an amazing dish. Last but not least the dessert course offered their classic carrot cake of the Baba au Rhum. We both got the carrot cake which we love as dessert aficionados. This was all for $45.00 a piece which is why the Dine Downtown is such a great deal. Brasserie Du Monde did a fabulous job with the choices and the great service we were offered. We got a great meal and a fabulous selection of some the dishes they offer. This is truly a great use of this Dine Downtown week and we will be back with friends.

Yelp
My friend and I selected this restaurant for the dine downtown special, this place is a hidden gem. Reservations are recommended-they have free basement parking after 5pm on weeknights. The service was excellent along with the ambience of the restaurant with a French theme. The food was served hot and promptly. We had the mussels and fries as the appetizers which was delicious! This place is a must experience..

Yelp
Ordered gnocchi here and found it overcooked and mushy, I couldn't even finish it. The server also was not super friendly, and didn't really answer questions regarding the menu. The ambiance however was great, they had awesome live music I really loved it and it made the overall hangout fun.

Yelp
Took my wife out for her birthday, and we haven't done many (or, any) French restaurants. I like to take her out to nice(r) restaurants, so we decided to give this a go. We started with the cheese platter, which was a cheese platter should be.....good combinations, toasted bread, some fruit, and this included honey. The only "not as good" food item would be their version of a scotch egg. The hollendaise sauce tasted like a spicy, sour mustard, so it was hard to eat the huge amount of it. Not bad, but unless a few people are sharing, it may be difficult to finish. I ordered the filet mignon, which was cooked perfectly, and the mustard sauce was a great accompaniment. The sweet potato cake was amazing, as I typically am not a huge sweet potato fan. The spinach was a great contrast to the richness of the steak. She enjoyed her salmon as well. The creme brulee was perfect, and as it was a birthday, complimentary. Our server had exceptional tastes and great recommendations. My wife's wine selection went perfectly with her salmon, and he was very attentive. Overall, highly recommended. A little pricey to fully enjoy the menu, but definitely worth it for a special occasion

Yelp
The atmosphere, food, drinks, and service were all outstanding. I highly recommend it!

Yelp
We had high hopes, but unfortunately they did not meet all our expectations. Positives : 1) French Onion soup . The star of the menu and a must try . It was excellent. 2) the chicken was cooked well and tasted good , but the overall dish was very uninteresting and priced high for what it was . 3 ) the fries served with my steak was crispy and delicious. 4) friendly service , they take reservations, and convenient location for dinner if you are catching a show at theater. 10 percent off your menu if you have theater tickets . The Not So Positives: 1) The limited menu and high prices. 2) Food quality seems inconsistent. My steak was super fatty and it had an overpowering rosemary gravy that was way over seasoned. Made it nearly inedible. I scrapped most of the sauce off before eating . 3 ) my cocktail didn't taste like it was made with any expertise . It had too much gin and not much other flavor notes . I noticed most of the drinks coming out from the bar were not prepared or filled to the rim . Wow very amateur on the bartenders part to not fill a cocktail glass to the rim as it was designed. 4) not too many things to choose from , and again it wasn't cheap.

Yelp
Sadly was very disappointed. My boyfriend and I came here for dine downtown and were disappointed when we arrived and the menu had completely changed from what was originally on the website. We were not informed of that when we made a reservation or when we got there. Our server was quite rude when we asked about the menu change and did not check on us the whole dinner service unless it was to take our plates away and even then she didn't say much. We were told we only had 90 minutes to sit due to reservations for the dine dowtown but from when we arrived until we left only 1 other party showed up and the restaurant only had about 3 tables sat excluding us. The food however was more disappointing then the service. We shared the soup and salad for the appetizers and the soup was so bland and the salad had a huge piece of the bottom of the head that we couldn't even eat. The main courses (the duck and the short rib) were better but overly salted. The desserts were alright, we both enjoyed the carrot cake but the soaked rum cake was not good. Our cocktails were the star of the show and made our dinner more enjoyable. Although the restaurant was beautiful and could have been more than what it was, I would not recommend it. I hate leaving bad reviews but I will not be returning here.

Yelp
Went to dinner at Brasserie last night, and it was pretty mediocre honestly. I got the Coho Salmon plate, and it was okay. My girlfriend got the steak and frites, and that was better than mine. My girlfriend mentioned the steak was super fatty, questioning the quality, but I had a bite and it was seasoned and tasty. We also got steak tartare for the table, and the toast they use was not impressive, neither was the dish as a whole. I used to come to this place with my grandparents, and it used to be so so so good. Now it's very slow, and I feel as if everything kinda took a step back. Definitely worth another try.

Yelp
This is an updated review. We were planning on going out for a lovely meal, and I was super excited that this coincided with the annual dine downtown Sacramento. If you're not familiar with the dine, downtown experience, it's generally when a good dozen restaurants will create specialty meals for a set price, and it usually features some of their best menu items. Brasserie Du Monde is definitely one of my favorite date night restaurants. Well, at least it was... We made reservations, and when we arrived, the restaurant was absolutely packed. I was super excited to see so many people in the restaurant. It's usually busy, but not like this. The host did his best to get a seated right away, and have us wait over in the bar area until our reserved table was ready. We looked over the regular menu, trying to decide if we wanted to enjoy the dine downtown, or if we wanted to order from the regular menu. We both opted for dine downtown, and at $45 per person, there's the thought process that you're either getting a really good deal and it's going to be fabulous, or you wonder if it's going to go in the opposite direction. The meal started out with a potato potage, that was barely edible. I can't think of one time with the exception of possibly french fries, that I actually requested salt and pepper for my soup. It literally was runny, lacked taste, and the little bits of potato that were in the soup were undercooked because they were so hard they weren't edible. We both ordered the lamb shank, and it was served over polenta. The polenta much like the soup was completely underwhelming, and was drowned by the Au jus of the meat. The lamb itself was super tender, and while the exterior of the meat had some flavor to it, it definitely was not meat that had been marinated or seasoned in any kind of way. It just tasted like cooked meat. We were told that lamb shank is not something that they normally have on the menu, and I hadn't recalled seeing it, so I was excited to try something new to me. Most of my meal ended up being packed to go. Perhaps the fact that the meat was covered with an unnecessary amount of arugula and field greens, should've been a clue. It did not enhance the flavor profile, and it felt like I was chewing grass with my meat. Just not a good taste or feeling. As if the first two courses weren't troubling enough, dessert was the horrible icing on the top. It was so so bad that I literally want to cry. I ordered the chocolate mousse, and he ordered the rum cake with chantilly cream on top. The chocolate mousse... I don't know I don't even have words for how horrible it was. I literally took one bite and push the plate away. It was warm, it tasted like it had been sitting out for a very long time, and I'm hoping the little bits and pieces that were in it were chocolate chips , but they definitely did not help with the flavor or the texture. The fruit coulis was tart and the flavor profiles just did not go well together. All in all, I just don't know that this is a restaurant that I will go back to. It was an expensive experience that was super disappointing. Now for the service... I could call the waitress out by name, but suffice to say the initial of her first name begins with an M. Our meal started out with her being obviously unhappy when we did not order any additional drinks. She had little no patience, and when I attempted to ask her a couple of questions about some of the menu items prior to ordering, the attitude that she exerted was one of not wanting to be bothered, and clearly just wanted us to place our orders so she could be on her way. She never bothered to check on us during the meal to find out how the meal actually was with the exception of coming by and picking up the soup bowls. When she did make an appearance, it was to box up my meal, and even with that she took off before anything could be said about practically a full meal being boxed to go. As a sidenote, someone else dropped off our desserts. She did drop off the check, and all of a sudden decided that was an opportunity for her to smile at both of us. The smile felt disingenuous, and came across as a don't forget to tip me well smile. Her lack of service, her attitude, and just her overall demeanor added to a very unpleasant meal, and will ensure that I won't be back. There are far too many other restaurants that deserve to do well, this sadly is not one of them.

Caree C.

Yelp
I got the gnocchi no flavor and super oily disappointed . Service also not great wish more people would leave reviews.

Yelp
I came from my dine downtown experience and they did not disappoint as usual! I ordered the soup and it was absolutely delicious and the braising beef absolutely delicious full of flavor did not disappoint me at all! And for the dessert the carrot cake was superb! I absolutely love this restaurant because they have free parking which is absolutely great for downtown. The service was excellent they understood the assignment cuz I had to be to work in the morning so I didn't want to be there long... I love the environment of the place because it's so relaxing. I would recommend doing this restaurant every year for dine downtown because it's just absolutely on point each year!

Yelp
We were attending a conference in Sacramento just down the block. The lunch crowd can be busy, I recommend reservations. My biggest complaint is short staff. We ordered and watched people come in after us & eat while we waited for pretty much the same items. The waitress was hustling so I'm sure the problem. There was a waitress, bar tender, manager & hostess. They were all trying to help each other. The meals were good. I went twice in one week. Once as a couple & second with a group. Same experience both times.

Yelp
My husband and I went here for the first time last night. There were a couple of little glitches, but they were handled well. Our server, Alex, was great! I had the gnocchi and it was unbelievably delicious! My husband had the boeuf bourguignon and it was yummy. The drinks, I had the Honey Badger and my husband had Zac's ginger & whiskey sour, both were lovely! They had a trio of musicians that started around 6 pm and they were perfect! Loved every second. Can't wait to go back and try some other dishes and drinks!

Yelp
Great lunch spot we stopped at on a break from our convention. Service was fast and he knew the menu - I had the French onion soup which was quite tasty. The sandwiches are huge and my partner had the BLT. The waiter was right when he said everything was good We didn't try it all but what we did - yummmm

Yelp
We came here because it was close to the theatre. We arrived at noon on a Saturday and I'm glad we made reservations. There were quite a few tables that seemed to have the same idea as us. We were given the brunch menu, but I was hoping for lunch though. I ordered the salmon benedict with a salad as my side. I enjoyed it overall, and liked how the English muffin was thin. I wasn't able to finish my food though as I was short on time. The service was friendly, but a bit slow. We were happy to find that we got a 10% discount if you are going to/from a show. Apparently they also offer free parking nearby.

Yelp
I loved the experience of eating here! The lighting was perfectly romantic, the servers were good looking and dressed nice, the food was served hot and fresh! The risotto, duck and rum sponge cake were my favorites!

Yelp
Food was phenomenal! Service was excellent! Vibe was very stylish. We sat in the dining room however they did have patio seating available. I enjoyed the pork chop and creme brulee can't wait to visit again!

Yelp
French food is a rarity for me! This was a beautiful little spot with amazingly elevated dishes. The deviled eggs were a surprise, I didn't think I would see those on the menu! The dish I had was floral and savory. The wine list was great! We enjoyed our dinner- and first French experience!

Yelp
Worst service ever! Had a conference at the Hyatt and walk over during a 1.5 hour break. Should have been more than enough time. Had to waive down a server after a 20 minute wait. She was rude and had nothing but excuses. Yaaahhh you're going to be busy for lunch on a weekday downtown..... waited 44 minutes more and still no food. Had to walk out as the break was up and grabbed a slice of pizza, which was actually great! Upper Crust, You rock!!! Never going to Brasserie Du Monde again!!!! You couldn't pay me!!!!

Liliana T.

Yelp
Expensive food, bad service and tap water. Go Cross the street to ELLA, they give what you pay for, with amazing service, wonderful food and filtered delicious taste water.

Yelp
Wow, this was an awesome French brunch bistro burger and fries. Cooked and seasoned to perfection. Veggies, onion jam, and egg inside were so fresh. Bun was pillowy and soft. Every bite was delicious, flavorful, and juicy.
google avatar

Shawn B.

Yelp
I had the steak frites with brandy and green peppercorn sauce at Brasserie du Monde. The steak was good, but for $54, I expected more in terms of seasoning and overall flavor. It wasn't bad, just not the "wow" factor I was hoping for. She had the salmon, which was decent, though the steak was slightly better. The service, however, was fantastic, and dining outside on K Street was a nice touch, especially with the beautiful weather. Overall, a good experience, but I think the food could be improved for the price.

Clarissa N.

Yelp
I got the cinnamon Belgian style waffles. There was barely any cinnamon flavor and was quite cold when brought out. The strawberries were not too bad but the peaches served on there were a bit tough. They had a very small selection of food so I'm not sure I'd recommend to anyone. Their presentation of the food was pretty I'll give them that and it was not too busy around 11 am on a Saturday.

Robert D.

Yelp
The food was delicious, the service was outstanding, and the ambiance is perfect for a date night. We have dined here many times and it just seems to get better each time. The menu is varied so there is something for everybody. Great wine list and wonderful bar service. A big plus is the free parking in the basement, a rarity for downtown.

Yelp
We stay around the corner at the Sheraton anytime we have meetings in town. Brasserie du Monde has been on my list of restaurants to try in the area and we finally had the opportunity to do so. Firstly, I want to acknowledge the staff. All of the individuals with whom we interacted were friendly and went out of their way to help us. 4*+ for the service. Unfortunately, this is where our positive experience ended. The food... where do I begin? Other than the onion soup, which was by far the best thing we had, the food was just so disappointing. It makes me sad to think people might dine here and end up leaving thinking that this is in any way representative of a quality French brasserie. Aside from the onion soup, the steak tartare was okay - tasty enough that I didn't regret ordering it, but far from stellar and certainly something I wouldn't order again. We also had the steak frites and their house burger. Both of these are pretty hard to screw up, but what we ended up with was an absolute train wreck, that not even the exceptional service we experienced could save. Let's start with the steak frites. The star of the dish, the steak, was smothered in some sort of cold, unidentifiable gravy. Not only did it not add anything of value to the dish, my personal opinion is that it significantly detracted from it. If it's a quality steak, it doesn't need much more than it's jus and perhaps some compound butter. The worst part is that the menu made no mention of this monstrosity or we would've asked not to include it. I'm not sure what cut of steak was used, but it was one of the cheaper cuts like flat iron or hangar steak, so if you're expecting ribeye or a strip steak, you had better ask in advance. We asked for the steak to be cooked medium rare. It came out closer to rare (I'd guess not much more than 125 degrees). In retrospect, this was our fault for not asking the cut when we decided on the doneness. As a result of being undercooked, the steak ended up extremely chewy. It also tasted like it had not been seasoned at all prior to being cooked or heck, even after it was cooked. The frites weren't super crispy nor were they seasoned, but they still ended up being the best thing on the plate. The burger wasn't much better. We asked for it to be cooked medium rare and what came out was between medium well and well done - it was hard choking down the dry beef. Instead of being a soft and pillowy delivery mechanism for a juicy patty, the brioche bun was dry and falling apart as soon as we attempted to pick it up. In the end, we gave up on the bun and just ate the patty with a knife and fork. Aside from being dry, it was severely underseasoned. In fact, I'm not sure it was seasoned at all prior to being cooked. Again, the fries weren't super crispy. They weren't seasoned. They were still the best thing on the plate. For the fries, we asked for some aioli. The aioli was underseasoned as well. I'm beginning to see a theme here. We ended up asking for some salt, but adding it onto the proteins afterwards only helped a little. We both agreed that this was by far the worst dining experience we can remember in recent history, going so far as to say that a cheap steak at Denny's was tastier than what we ended up with at Brasserie du Monde. It's clear (to me, anyway), that the person or people doing the cooking in the back have absolutely no sense of proper seasoning. To have so many items come out underseasoned has never happened before in the decades we've been eating out. For ~$120 lunch for food only, you can imagine this was quite the disappointment. I can only hope that they take the reviews seriously and make some changes in the kitchen.

Yelp
Brasserie Du Monde is where The Broiler moved to in the ban roll-on building. It was a mixed experience. We went as part of Dine Downtown. It was tricky to find who to check in with. The hostess informed us immediately that the table had a time limit on it. I had to ask twice because it was sort of unnerving info to hear. (I looked up later and realized that the community center was having an event.) The Waiter was great - answering questions and checking in. I can't remember the food because the hoped for French Onion soup was not on the menu as expected. (It was on the regular menu and the online preview for Dine Downtown, just not on the actual menu.)

Yelp
I came here with a friend while I was on a work trip in Sacramento. Even though downtown is not as nice as it used to be, I consider it his place is a hidden gem. I was surprised that there was not many people for dinner on a Sunday night but that didn't discourage us. The French menu is limited but it has enough selection that we both found something we liked. The duck was succulent and very well prepared, the chicken also. We ordered a beet salad that was delicious. There was a salad that included parsimmons that looked great unfortunately we couldn't order it. The waiter told us that the parsimmons they receive did not have the level of quality that they require, that for me speaks volumes about how careful they are with all their ingredients. Finally, service was good and the ambiance was nice as well. I would consider coming back again.

Yelp
It's a nice brasserie. Service started slow but picked pretty fast. First we got " du pain au beurre battu ", " œufs mimosa ", the appetizers were tasty, the bread was warm, crispy, and soft at the same time, then I got " Les moules classiques " and my husband " le steak frite " The sauce for the mussels was too creamy and the mussels were a bit too large. I tried the steak and it was tender, garlicky and tons of parsley, not exactly the beurre persillé of the cafes in Paris, but close. Our fries were crispy. Both of our plates had so much fries! We had champagne and desserts: a delicious crème brûlée and a Napoleon to end an anniversary dinner. I'd add one more note: the menu: maybe get a French person to check the spelling... it's been a few weeks so I don't remember the misspells, but there were a few and it would literally take 2 minutes to make it right...

Yelp
I'm so sad to have to update my review based on a recent dining experience here for dinner. Our waitress was nice, but she wasn't very attentive. She didn't tell us the specials until we asked, and she failed to mention the mussels weren't available until we spent 10 minutes deciding what to order. The food was so disappointing. I love salty, savory food, and I'm known to add salt to most of my meals. However, Brasserie took their salt seasoning to a level I've never experienced before. Every dish we had was beyond a few pinches of salt; it was like tablespoons of it! - Gulf shrimp with curry sauce: this was SO extremely salty. The shrimp was salty, as well as the curry sauce. It was as if they put in tablespoons of salt into the sauce. The flavor profile was good, but it was just too much for us. At this point, we hoped that our entrees would be better. - Filet: again, incredibly salty. It was cooked the way we wanted, but my husband said it was still heavily seasoned with salt to the point where he couldn't even finish it. It was that bad. - Duck leg confit: AGAIN, so salty! What on earth was up with the kitchen? I've had and made this dish many times, and I've never ever had it as terribly salty as it was here. If it didn't come with a bland puree, it wouldn't have been close to edible. What an awful meal from start to finish. We're incredibly disappointed, given our first experience was so good.

Yelp
Not a place I will be coming back to. Food was fine but service was questionable. We got the dessert menu before even finishing our dinner. I felt rushed and far from a relaxed dinner.

Yelp
One of my absolute favorite restaurants downtown. I typically get the lunch special which changes daily and is always delicious. but today I got the les moules classique (mussels with French fries). It was absolutely amazing! The cream sauce in the dish has chopped fennel in it which gives it an great herbaceous taste. The fries are hand cut and delicious. The restaurant reminds me of being in a European cafe and is always busy at lunch which is a good sign for sure. It's very spacious as well and has a small out door seating area too. The service is always amazing. And I seem to always see the same server at lunch which is always a nice sign as well. She's very friendly and sweet. *they also have mocktails upon request*
