Staff were friendly and good service. 3 of us got chicken and it was dry and overcooked. Fairly sure there was butter in the sauce for all of us despite one person telling them she had a milk allergy. Our starter was great, though. There are better options in this city, IMO.

Had a very enjoyable 3 course lunch (daily set menu), delicious food and great service

A fantastic restaurant where you can formidable eat for a reasonable price. They have some local choices that I will recommend.

Traditional brasserie with amazing views of the Rouen cathedral. Great to have lunch or even get a highly recommended cafe gourmand (expresso coffee with tiny desserts). They offer a formule for €20 that includes an starter and plate. We enjoyed the escargots and the dessert. Salad has a small portion of tuna which was not great. Place was full of locals. Place is a bit pricey.

On a Sunday in Rouen this restaurant is rare in that it is open to past 15:00 hrs, it's popular with a French clientele, choice selection of main dishes at Euro 14 for poulet and 23 for entrecot steak including frites with salad or vegetables. It's decor is lovely, calm well presented style. Vin d'Pays tres drinkable, attentive service at all time. Located opposite Cathedral.

We had lunch on the terrace here on a nice Sunday afternoon in May. It’s definitely a well located restaurant in the center of Rouen, with an amazing view of the cathedral. I went for the meal of the day, which is 13.90€ and was veal with a thyme sauce and side. They had cauliflower flan as the default side but exchanging it with pommes frites was not a problem at all. The meal arrived quickly and the veal was tender and went really well with the sauce. The fries were home-made and delicious. Overall a great meal for a very reasonable price considering the quality and location! They also have a solid selection of drinks and the cider I had was amazing, very crisp and refreshing. Despite looking a bit like a tourist trap, this is a very good restaurant and they must be doing something right for being there for such a long time (since 1898 to be precise).

I waited 10 min for the waiters to see me and I ordered a cappuccino (without having been offered the menu) only for it to come with a dirty cup and the sugar packets as well. They looked as if somebody has stepped on them. When I have asked for a change of the sugar, the girl that came back with it threw it on the table. On top of that I paid 4.5€ for a watered down cappuccino. There was another couple waiting to be acknowledged by the very busy waiter that was gossiping instead of doing her job, and they left.

Went in the afternoon for desserts, they turned out to be amazing!!! We had the chocolate mousse and fromage blanc with maple syrup. I'm not giving 5 stars only because the service was too slow, nobody saw me to take the order at least 15 min. Otherwise was a nice place.

Yelp
I almost wondered if they were associated w/ the bakery Paul that I so much adore. I don't think they are, but the food here is top in this region for serving authentic Normandy dishes. You'll find Normandy beef tartare, Normandy Chicken, Camembert souflee, and a Normandy steak. The set lunch is about 25$ euroes but you get the side, main entree, and the dessert. The dessert list is monstrous btw, and I coulnd't understand most of it, but there are a few key things to get. Sides: Mom got the foie gras with smoked duck slices on top of apple salad (highly recommend for those who want to check off foie gras off your list but have a balanced veggie plate). The apple and duck balanced each other nicely. I had the camembert tart soaked in melted camembert. Not for those who can't handle stronger and soft cheeses, but the melted gooeyness alongside such flakey tart was absolutely delicious. There is something light despite the heavy creams/cheeses/breads that the French people use. If you're afraid of greasiness, this dish does not have that. You don't see a puddle of oil on anything which you would easily see in the US. That is the beauty of any food I find in france. Rich ingredients but don't pile a large pile of oil, an art I think we can learn from. Main entree: We ordered the Normandy steak, the Normandy chicken, and my sister had the Entree du jour which is the salmon with the red wine sauce. Most french cooking will taste "bland" to people who are from Asian countries or nations with heavier spices. french food however is complexly layered with wines and stews and separate parts that must be made in the right order to achieve such fluffiness, butteriness, etc. If you are someone who has keen tastebuds, you will appreciate that the blandness itself is an art that makes you want to finish your meal! I don't recommend salt/peppering your food until you've taken a bite and appreciate the complex wines and refined tastes. Normandy steak came with caramelized onions. The chicken was a thigh, but compared to American chicken, this was not some fat thick thigh you find at Popeyes but a tougher almost rooster version. The sauce was mildly strong in terms of odor like a sweet cheese/wine smell but went nicely with the chicken. Beef- anything grass fed is always going to have a stronger taste. I thought it was fine, but French beef is clearly different from American beef, so if you're used to a milder tasting steak, well marinated, then this dish may be a little strong for you. Dessert: Chocolate mousse was WAY too sweet. I was surprised b/c most French desserts are not that sugary. If there's a 3 chocolate cake layer, get that. It was outstanding. It was mouse, real dark chocolate, and multiple layers that were none too sweet and had disparate textures/tastes/sweetness to it that was delightlful on the tastebuds and made you feel satisfied (hits the right spot). Creme brulee can't go wrong, but this one was a sweeter verson of what I've had so far in France. There are other choices, and you can't go wrong with any of them, but if I would say, for people who love sweet, go with mousse, people who love choclate do the 3 chocolate cake. Service was excellent. Think starch stiff white long sleeve shirts, black ties, and old school French waiter vibe amid an old school up scale setting. Great experience. Highly recommend

Yelp
Brasserie Paul is a classic French Bistro with excellent service and delicious service. I am not sure why there are so many mixed reviews of them as we had a great time. We both order the set dinner menu and I had a glass of wine. Highly recommended!!!

Yelp
Service was slow and it was a sweltering evening. Water was sparse. The food was good.

Yelp
We needed brunch on a Sunday, when many restaurants are closed. Paul was open and had open tables so we rather unreflectively chose it. It turned out to be a good option--All three of us had the Croque Cheval, a simple, traditional ham and cheese sandwich topped with a fried egg. They were served with fried potatoes. The meal was nothing fancy but it was exactly right for that morning for us. Service was prompt and not exactly friendly, but cordial. One of the nicest things about Brasserie Paul is its location, directly on the square looking across at the Rouen Cathedral. On a beautiful day, it's hard to do better than that.

Yelp
An institution founded in 1898 this place is what the French call "correct". Classic dishes well prepared with quality ingredients at a reasonable price. As for welcome the best test is to show up early for lunch with a big stroller and a sleeping child. If they welcome you with a smile and make a place for the stroller at a table with a view of the Cathedral you know you came to the right place. Before us was a group of old servicemen, now the table next to us is an extended family celebrating Grandmas birthday. In short, an institution.

Yelp
If you're looking for authentic homemade French food, you won't find it here. We had chicken and steak and both were rubbery. The food is not terrible but there are much better places in the city.
