Brussels Beer Guide: Top Breweries, Brilliant Restaurants and Gorgeous Hotels

"This former Art Nouveau banana warehouse, which now houses Brasserie Surréaliste, is worth a visit on its own, but you can also enjoy a brewery tour and occasionally musical performances. You’ll learn how Surréaliste is brewed, as well as discover the various IPAs that have made the brand famous. The house's design, created by Brussels artist Elzo Durst, is the cherry on top." - The MICHELIN Guide

We had a pleasant time, there was a nice selection of beers on tap, the food was great. The service was the best. We are really pleased with Gwen and Kevin. They are were kind, funny and did their job fantastically. Makes the whole experience good when you have great service. Compliments to the whole kitchen staff! Definitely recommended!

Beautiful and cozy restaurant. Full everyday for a reason. Not too many choices on the menu, so you can be sure the food are all good. Chef keep on making the same dishes, no way it can be bad.

Saturday Lunch at brasserie surrealiste became a bit of a disappointment. Entering the building you are first met with an amazing hall with big beautiful chandeliers, but sadly also an extreme smell of bioethanol from the bio fireplaces. Next entering the restaurant restaurant, where you are met by a weird mix decor of dungeon, vampire, oldschool, animal, highgloss, - you name it - in a room that could have been absolutely perfect. We might have missread something, but a la carte was out of the picture, and it left us with only three different dishes. I took the stew as I, as the only one, had avoided it up until this place. And I should have avoided it here also. A bland, undersaltet, oversweetend (properbly due the use of sweet carrots AND braissing in a too sweet beer) big brown mass on a plate with mediocer undersalted fries on the side. The mushroom Vol-au-vent wasn’t ny treat either; in my opinion a decent dish destroyed with truffel oil overtaking every bite. All this while they chose to play the music at 70dB at 12:30 in the middle of the day. The waiters and the service was very good though.

For a cocktail or drink is a charming place and would recommend (even if you need to go order to the counter). However, I do not recommend - it is pricey for such a below average experience - given the extremely slow service.

A place to eat different food, everything was delicious and the service was very good. Perhaps at times the music was a little loud for dinner.

What a gem of a brasserie! The décor is absolutely stunning—a perfect blend of antique, industrial, and chic. The spacious interior, with its beautiful wooden tables made from old factory pieces, feels both cozy and grand. The lighting is just right, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The prices are reasonable, and while the food is simple, it complements the setting perfectly. Highly recommend discovering this place!

Beautiful venue with cool details, but freezing. We ordered red wine (by glass) which was served way too cold. The waiter was aloof and hard to reach. The chicken has perhaps too many components, with the chicken terrine, stuffing, dates, parsnip chips, olive mix, sauce, potatoes and another sauce. It was a lot. We ordered the beef as well, and discussed the dish and cooking-preference with the waiter. However, we were served the lamb instead. The person ordering it does not eat lamb, and therefore does not have much experience with its taste. The mistake was therefore not discovered until the waiter asked ~45 minutes later if the “lamb was good”. We immediately asked if we had heard him correctly and explained that the dish was not the one we ordered. The waiter replied with “i will see what we can do”, followed by (seemingly) avoiding us for the next 15-20 minutes. When we finally got his attention, it seemed like he had forgotten the issue. We then spoke to the manager, who apologized hesitantly, but refused to compensate the dish as over half of it was already eaten, even though the fault was the communication between the waiter and the kitchen. Staff was difficult, made it seem like it was our fault, and offered a free dessert. As we did not want anything and wanted to leave at this point, we tried asking for one beer to be removed from the bill instead. They refused, but said we could get one more for free instead. We ended up accepting an extra beer, even though the mood was ruined, we were freezing and unhappy with our food, was blamed by the staff for their mistakes and had to deal with poor and difficult service. We will not return, but hope that they will treat others better.
