The 16 Best Restaurants Near Ohio State University | Eater

"Brassica has become a staple for Ohio State students looking to escape campus for a quick trip to the Mediterranean. The chill counter-service spot offers options like brisket, roasted cauliflower, baba ghanoush, and fresh falafel. Meals come in the form of sandwiches (made with fresh pita), salad, or loaded hummus bowls. Go for the salad and affix it with all the available toppings, including the roasted red pepper sauce and zhug, to try the full array at once." - Angela Lee

Google
So friendly, great experience all around. They never disappoint. Everything is so consistent across all locations. I love the salad bowl with chicken and vegees with garlic sauce. I always add a little roasted red pepper on top of my hummus for added flavor too. Hubby always gets the pita sandwich and live their chickpea chocolate chip cookie 🍪

Brassica is like if chipotle and cava had a kid and that kid has a trust fund. What I’d call elevated fast casual, Brassica is where clean, whole food ingredients meets the American urge to throw everything into a bowl and inhale it in 3 minutes flat. And I loved every second of it. Counter staff were super friendly, knowledgeable, and fast. The portion sizes they keep on the line are very small, guaranteeing only the freshest of ingredients. A nice variety of topping choices while still remaining extremely simple. I don’t know what kind of spices they put in the rice but it was unique and I kept wanting to go back for more. Definitely pricey when stacked against some of its competitors, but worth it IMO.

If you’re looking for affordable, healthy, and most importantly DELICIOUS, look no farther. Initially I thought this was another rip off, overpriced, bland place for the rich. Well I can tell you I was very wrong. I paid under 15 bucks for a bowl loaded with fresh flavorful vegetables, grains, and meat! The price is similar to chipotle and bibipop yet the food is by far better in terms of quality and flavor!!

Google
Amazing all around experience, came with my family and everything was phenomenal. Food exceeded all expectations, staff was super friendly and nothing but nice to be around. Super nice inside and there is nothing I can say even okay about this place. Definite would recommend!

Google
Had a wonderful time here with 4 friends. Got a bowl and loaded it with vegetables (all veggies, no falafel or chicken) and it came out to less than $12. Healthy and delicious meals, great value, would come back again. Came on a Friday 7pm and there was plenty of seating. Staff was very friendly and nice.

Google
My friends and I went for lunch at the Bexley location. We all ordered bowls. I got a pita on the side and also got the fries. They are seasoned and come with a dip. A must was the Tahini chocolate chip cookie. Sooooo delicious.

Google
This place was amazing. Got a salad with falafel and a side of fries. Highly recommend. Hope they expand to Dayton soon!

Google
Food was great. Like an upscale Chipotle but with a different flare. The environment was nice too. However a person accosted me while eating to ask me for bus fare. Love that they have healthy soda options!

Yelp
Brassica has been one of my fav Columbus foodie finds! I was excited to see a location in Bexley since it has better parking than High Street. Love their SEASONED, fresh veggies and their friendly staff.

Yelp
Brassica: My Go-To Spot for a Fresh, Healthy Flavor Bomb Brassica is hands-down my favorite place for a fresh, healthy meal that never sacrifices flavor. From the consistency across locations to the value and thoughtful sourcing, everything about it feels intentional. How it works: You start by picking a base--salad ($11.99), sandwich ($8.99), or hummus plate ($9.99). Then choose a protein like falafel, chicken shawarma, or the harissa-rubbed brisket that falls apart the second you pick up your fork. The veggies deserve a shoutout. Usually I avoid roasted vegetables because they come out bland or soggy, but here? They're seasoned and cooked to perfection. The marinated eggplant is silky, the beets are bright and earthy, and even the cauliflower has so much flavor. If you think you don't like vegetables, Brassica might change your mind. *Don't skip the sauces -- the z'hug jalapeño cilantro sauce ties everything together, and the feta adds the perfect creamy finish. Special Mention: The Minty Pink Lemonade. As a self-proclaimed lemonade connoisseur, this one passes the test. Refreshing, perfectly balanced, and honestly the best $3 you'll spend all day. The portions are generous, the ingredients are high quality, and the atmosphere is laid-back but modern. If you haven't been, it's worth the trip. Service: A1 Follow @LetJessTellIt for more Columbus food reviews and local gems.

Yelp
Brassica is a massive winner in my book, offering delicious sandwiches and salads with antibiotic-free meats and organic whole wheat pitas. It's similar to Cava Grill, a Mediterranean fast-casual restaurant chain with locations across the United States. I built a salad with half hummus and half baba (which is a smoky eggplant dip with tahini, extra virgin olive oil, and roasted garlic). I also got some Brassica fries and a drink, and I was so full! This place is so delicious, and the service is good, so I definitely recommend it if you like Mediterranean flavors!

Yelp
Brassica is on our top five favorite restaurants list. Whenever we find ourselves heading east on 70, we always make certain there is an excuse to hop off the highway and grab a meal here. They now have at least three locations in the Columbus area. I'm waiting for them to open up in Indianapolis ;) I cannot sing the praises of this flavorful eatery enough. From the roasted eggplant and baba ghanoush to the tahini sea salt chocolate chip cookies, and assortment of sauces, it's a party in your mouth. During this last visit we also picked up baba ghanoush to take home from their little cooler in the front as well as some of the vegan cauliflower tahini soup. At the end of the meal, we were sad for it to be over so we ended up ordering another meal to take home for the next day. The spot is especially ideal for vegetarians and vegans. You can top your bowl with everything from falafel and chicken to lamb and roasted veggies. Our kiddos loved the meal as much as we did.

Yelp
Let me start by saying, all brassica is great brassica. For my last few trips though I've been going to the Bexley location and they have it down! The line always moves quickly, they ask about your fry order ahead of time so it's ready when you're checking out (fries always hot and fresh!), and the indoor/ outdoor seating is expansive. Onto the food, if you haven't had Brassica- put this at the top of your list. No matter what combo you get, it's sure to make your entire day better.

Yelp
Hear me out. This might be not the most conventional Mediterranean restaurant, is like an upscale fast food place, but well done my friends . The food was surprisingly good. Since you enter, the staff treats you with respect and are helpful recommending what they think is the best option, the ambience is relaxing and quiet plus, the location is super clean and neat. Definitely you paid for what you are getting, is not super expensive but is not cheap either. I can come back to this restaurant again, and it will leave me happy and satisfied (that's what she said) shout outs to the ones that get the reference.

Yelp
Brassica delivers fresh, flavorful dishes that keep you coming back for more! After trying their delicious chicken salad bowl on my first visit, I returned the very next day to indulge in their brisket sandwich--equally satisfying. The mint lemonade is refreshingly perfect, and the Brassirita? Strong, delicious, and top tier. A must-try spot for sure! The service was outstanding & ambiance is giving modern but casual vibe.

Yelp
Always a great meal. This is like a Mediterranean version of Chipotle but far more pleasant atmosphere to sit and enjoy a meal. The food is full of flavor and made relatively fresh. You can choose salads or pitas and then load up with various vegetable sizes. The falafel are well seasoned and not dry. Try the roasted carrots as another great side. The helpings are generous. They have a decent beer and wine selection. It's a great place for a quick bite or for takeout if hosting a group.

Yelp
From the team, to the ambiance, to the fresh delicious foods. You will not go wrong here! The whole team really cares and gets you exactly what you want when you want it! 10/10

Yelp
'Waited 30+ minutes to get order after pickup time and got home to this mess. I love beets but they weren't on the order.

Yelp
Clean restaurant. 2/3 of the employees we dealt with were friendly, one.... Not so much... Food was SO GOOD. And we definitely recommend going if you're in the area. Try a bit of everything! Minty Pink Lemonade was great, cookie was fab. And oh yea, our actual lunch was delicious too :) Parking is tight and there is not too much space on the left hand side of the "shopping" center.

Yelp
If you've been to any of the locations for Brassica, this location is about the same. Although, I do like their dining area a bit more than the other locations. It's a bit more open and just has a more relaxed feel to it. I've visited the Short North location quite a few times and love it, but my hang up there is space. It's very crammed. The Bexley location is way better. As for the food, if you've never been to Brassica, it's like Chipotle for Mediterranean food. They have options for all preferences and dietary restrictions. My wife and I love the vegan options like the falafel bowl. The hummus is great and you've gotta try their cauliflower and jalapeño salad. So good! And keep an eye out for their tahini soup - it's so worth it. The staff at this location are friendly and helpful.

Yelp
What a wonderful place to experience for our date night. The food was very good, the service was quick, and the restaurant was clean and stress free. The bathrooms were very clean as well.

Yelp
One of my favorite quick dining places in columbus. Everything is always consistent and delicious. Their minty pink lemonade is to die for. Service is always friendly.
google avatar

Yelp
I absolutely love Brassica! I had a salad bowl with brisket, hummus and veggies (carrots, along with cucumbers and radishes). The salad greens were great (not just Romaine or iceberg). Daughter had hummus with veggies. A great, healthy and quick-but-not-fast-food experience, with a casual sit down restaurant feel. Service was polite and efficient. Parking lot adjacent. If I lived in Columbus, this would be a once a week place for me! I'll settle for frequent visits.

Yelp
There comes a point in every trip I make to Cbus where my body starts rejecting booze & crappy foods and craves something healthy. Cue Brassica. This was my first time at this location. If this place was here when I went to Capital a million years ago, I would have graduated looking like Violet from Willie Wonka. Brassica is part of that whole "let's take Chipotle concept and do that with another type of food" trend. In this case, they do Mediterranean. The veggies were all so good! We got there 5 mins before they closed to order to go. The folks that worked there were so nice and actually still making fresh food to put out! Bonus: you can order a Brassarita (a boozy version of their frozen minty pink lemonade) to go!

Yelp
Love Brassica and absolutely recommend eating here. One of my favorite restaurants and I honestly think I am addicted. The food is fresh and has AMAZING taste. You move through the line easy and in just a couple of minutes ready to dig into you yummy, colorful meal. There are a few locations in Columbus we have eaten at but Beckley is my favorite. Always a good experience with fresh food, friendly staff, clean restaurant and restrooms, easy parking. Plenty of seating inside and patio dinning if you would like. My partner is a big fan of the sandwiches, and I prefer the bowls. I don't think you can go wrong with anything here. The salad is served as a bowl of greens with lentils & rice. I go with Falafel or the slow-roasted chicken shawarma. Today it was chicken, with Baba (over hummus) and a run down of the sides with pickled cabbage, radishes, sweet beets, marinated eggplant, spicy cauliflower, and roasted carrots. I choose the special sauce for the dressing ($13.40). You have to get a side of the Brassica Fries ($2.90) with the special sauce. I always end up coming back for another cup of dipping sauce/dressing as they are filled half full and it is incredible with those fries. One day I may just go in and get a pile of fries for dinner, they are that good.
google avatar

Tatianna S.

Yelp
While pricey, Brassica is delicious. I love their salads. It's the same lettuce base as Northstar, which has my favorite salad in Cbus. The chicken here has a lot of flavor, but not with spice. The pickled veggies add a nice tang in the salad. A great quick option for lunch or a lighter dinner.
google avatar

Chelsea W.

Yelp
Brassica is so good! They offer Mediterranean influence build your own pita sandwiches and salads. The menu consists of protein including chicken, beef and falafel, as well several vegetable choices that are pickled and roasted. Their great quality of ingredients always consistent. This place is my go-to when I'm looking for a quick and healthy option.
google avatar

Tim Tc A.

Yelp
I was really pleased to find all the healthy & tasty selections on the menu at Brassica. The decor provides a relaxing space to enjoy your food selections. Take out is also available, should you not have time to dine inside or on the spacious patio. Prices seem to be reasonable for the amount and quality of food purchased.
google avatar

Jessica A.

Yelp
I ordered the salad. Kept it vegetarian/vegan. The base was salad... no hummus or any other base. This was my first time having fresh falafel! I've never been impressed with falafel in the past. But I've never had them fresh until this very moment! Now I understand why people love falafels!! I almost wish I didn't try them because I think I am hooked now. They are so delicious. Everything in my bowl was so tasty! The fries were made fresh as well! They have their own unique seasoning. Like a seasoned salt mixed with a slight tajin flavor. Very good. Ate them all before I got home which was not far. The young lady that took my order was so pleasantly nice & helpful. I wish I got her name. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
Yes! I have to echo what another reviewer pointed out - Brassica always delivers, never disappointing. This has to be one of my favorite restaurants, period. Every time I go back (once a year or so) I get nervous that it's not going to live up to memory's hype... but it does! It's so delicious and plausibly healthy. And their staff are always bright-eyed and welcoming. I've been to two of their locations, same great results each time. I usually get the salad bowl with rice mix and chicken, all the veggies, crispy onions, an extra falafel, hummus, tahini, garlic sauce and one other delicious sauce I can't remember. Keep doing what you're doing, Brassica. And do it somewhere closer to me in Indianapolis, please. I literally time out my road trips through Columbus, OH to make sure I can stop to get Brassica while passing through.

PA L.

Yelp
Kinda looks open, kinda looks just before opening; absolutely delightful fresh and brightly flavors of food. Delightful. Unexpected. We shall stop to eat again (we are 2/2.5 hrs from home).... Solid value for the money - we went with vegan options.... left with full bellies.... we enjoyed their music selections... kinda like chipotle- only much better Love the Mediterranean flairs
google avatar

Nick C.

Yelp
We ordered this place for pickup and they were kind taking our orders. Walking in the restaurant had chill, cool and local vibes, allowing us to pick up our high quality and healthy salad bowls! Pricey but worth it for a solid meal!
google avatar

Tina G.

Yelp
When they decide to make a fresh batch of pita while a line of people are waiting to order, you wonder why because it takes so long to get through the line to begin with. Anyway, I tried the pita sandwich for the first time since the bread was fresh out the oven. It was phenomenal. It's been intimidating up to this point because you cannot figure out how to eat such an openly display of the toppings, but it's really easy and I think I'll be getting them more often! The fries were too hard and not seasoned as I like but the special sauce helped. I have to be honest: I am beginning to have a love-hate relationship for Brassica, especially after visiting them twice in one day today! :) The polarity of emotions of this place is so vast! How dysfunctional, right?
google avatar

Rachel W.

Yelp
My second time trying Brassica. The first time I checked out Easton but today was in Bexley and craving Mediterranean for lunch. Both instances were fresh, savory and oh so good. The service was welcoming and warm and the atmosphere was lively. Both times I opted for the "salad" which is really more of a bowl with lentils, rice and lettuce. I went with chicken, lots of veggies the house special sauce which is a must try, incredibly fresh feta and super savory crispy onions.
google avatar

Lisa L.

Yelp
Really delish, quick and easy! Walk up service, pick your base and toppings so totally customizable.

Yelp
I Stan Brassica. My brother from Chicago wishes there was a Brassica there. And it's CHICAGO!!!

Yelp
Yum! I just went to brassica for the first time in years. I wanted something that I hadn't had in a while because I'm getting tired of run of the mill places and trying to stay away from fast food sodium. If you want something fast, healthy and convenient then this is your place. Last time I had the falafel. Honestly it wasn't memorable...hence I haven't been back in at least 3 years. This time I checked Yelp (smart move) and the brisket was the top recommendation followed by chicken. Since everyone compared it to a fancy Chipotle, I wasn't sure I would finish a sandwich in one sitting so I went for the bowl. I got the brisket salad bowl with hummus and all the toppings except for eggplant. Cauliflower, beets, crispy onions, croutons, pickle mixture, carrots...yum yum yum. I also tried the house sauce, roasted red pepper and lime one. Brisket is fire!! Crack fire to be exact! Sooo delicious. To be honest, the brisket is so tender and juicy, I'm not even sure you need sauce. All the flavors meld well together. I'm glad I got the sauce on the side because I was able to really taste all the ingredients. Sauces: house sauce is yummy and a good compliment, it does contain diary. The roasted red pepper was my favorite. A bit bolder than house but super smooth. I didn't care for the nondairy lime one. It tastes somewhat nutty. I guess if you're vegan and want to pretend that you're getting something creamy then go for that. Overall 10/10. Yumtastic and I will be back soon!
google avatar

Angela L.

Yelp
Delicious. Enough said. Seriously though, anything and everything I or my husband or friends have ever eaten from here is so flavorful and delicious. I love the chicken with a rice and lentils base and the cooked carrots and cucumbers added with all the other yummies I have them pile on top.
google avatar

Regina C.

Yelp
The Food Amazing Every Time! Worth Every Penny. As Long As The Price's Don't Rise. They Also Have Vegetarian Options Which Keeps Me Coming Back Even Tho I'm A Pescatarian. Omg & The FRIES ALONE! Is All I Need In My Life. Check Them Out‼
google avatar

Mark E.

Yelp
It's alright. It's another build your own chipotle style joint. Service was great. It could push the use of spices, and be more adventurous with their menu. It's hard to find places in central Ohio that don't dumb down their menus.
google avatar

Bill P.

Yelp
Had a brisket and chicken rice bowl. Also, got a side of hummus and pita. The ingredients were fresh and the dish was so flavorful. The star of the show was the customer service, though. Associate was so sweet and did such a wonderful job answering my questions and describing the various sauces/toppings. Will be going back!
google avatar

Olwen C.

Yelp
I love Brassica, it's great! The food is so flavorful! I really love that I can get a healthy meal here with lots of vegetables. My favorite is the falafel bowl, you get 4 falafels in it, plus all the veggies you choose. I first learned about this place at their new location in Cleveland, and now I'm hooked. I love it!

Co M.

Yelp
Truly as good as you're ever going to get at this price point. Highest quality ingredients, filling portions, amazing taste, great service, clean restaurant. Everything I've had here has been delicious. Earns every bit of its five stars.
google avatar

David Z.

Yelp
We love Brassica on East Main! The food is always consistent and the fries are a must. P.S. don't forget a refreshing mint lemonade
google avatar

Teri S.

Yelp
Tried the salad bowl with different samples. The hummus is bland and liquidy. The baba ganoush was very smoky - I think that they add liquid smoke to their recipe. I actually liked it even though it was was artificially smoky. The falafel was very salty. I did like the pickled vegetables especially the red cabbage. The chicken was okay. So I would suggest skipping the hummus and the falafel. The chicken may work better in a sandwich.
google avatar

Leslie S.

Yelp
The food here is always good. The meats are tender and juicy. The people always smile. I love having a nice lunch date there and smashing a bottle of wine together! Always well worth the price.
google avatar

Amber C.

Yelp
We needed some quick nourishment and so glad we landed here. I totally missed the menu, but the employee was willing to explain everything to us. I got the sandwich - if you can call it that.. and hubby got the salad. Friendly, Fresh, Flavorful, and a Funky vibe. Hubby LOVED the music selections!! The roasted cauliflower and pickled cabbage alone are reasons to return!! Next time we visit Columbus, we will be stopping here!!
google avatar

Tammy A.

Yelp
I tried Brassica for the very first time today and I was very impressed by the quality of the food. I got the salad bowl and my co-worker got the sandwich. We wrote down our orders, which you can find on their online menu area if your ordering for a big crowd. It is very handy dandy. Parking is simple you can park anywhere there in the Bexley plaza because it's all free and open parking areas. The wait was long as expected, when I got to the counter the staff were very nice and hospitable. They made their recommendations which I appreciated. Most of which made my bowl taste even better thanks to them. I got the falafel bowl which has about 3 or 4 falafels. They are the real deal, taste very authentic to what I remember growing up and making them in my original homeland of Israel. Next you pick your toppings I got the eggplant, cauliflower, crispy onions, cukes and onions. You have a choice with the sauces, they have the their house sauce or you have a choice between the red pepper, tahini or hot sauce. Finally you check out and you can add extras like pita for $2.50 or the seasoned fried which are oh so yummy and worth trying. Finally, refresh with their house made minty lemonade to complete your meal. This entire meal is worth the wait and money!

Yelp
I love the variety of foods that you can choose and they have a lot of items you can't find at other places

Yelp
This was our first time trying this place . The choices are many and it reminds you of a chipotle but a much better selection of fresh cooked veggies and pickled veggies . The pita I had was very good and the fillings I selected were delicious . We will definitely go back . The choices range from hummus to eggplant, carrots, and pickles and radish combo that is very tasty . Go and try this place you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
SEVEN WORDS: IT'S Like Chipotle or Piada...Only Better. . So...who hasn't thrown their hat into the "Stuff in a Bowl" category, yet? . Meditreranean Food, that's who. Two bowls and a Soda came to $26 and change. Now, that is a little pricy, but the Quantity and Quality of this food makes it well worthwhile. Additionally, its great food - even if you're not a big fan of North African Cuisine ( which is really what my Brassica serves). We both left full and I can't wait to come back again - next time with a more adventurous foodie. . And when I say Medditerranean, think Hummus, Lentils, Polenta, Eggplant, Beets, Feta, and Pita Chips. . Just like Chipotle or Piada or even Noodles and Company, Brassica lets you pick and chhoose what you

Yelp
Fresh, colorful, delicious, creative, high quality ingredients... did I mention delicious? Columbus is a city that is packed with good places to eat, but this one definitely deserves special attention my friends. The fresh baked pita bread, the smoky baba ganoush, the flavorful sauces, the beef brisket, the falafel and the fries are simply exceptional. It is beautiful to see when people put so much love into their work and food, and this place definitely does it!
google avatar

Nadine S.

Yelp
If you like Mediterranean and fast casual than this is a must try. I hadn't had brassica in years and it was even better than I remember. A ton of great healthy options and this Bexley location is so charming with ample parking available. I got the falafel bowl with rice, hummus, baba ganoush, roasted carrots, roasted beets, mixed greens, roasted cauliflower, cucumber, roasted eggplant. It was one of the most flavorful meals I have ever had. They even had vegan tahini chocolate chip cookies! I highly recommend the house dressing with it. If it's your first time or it's been a while, let them know and they will guide you on ordering.

Yelp
Hands down one of my favorite places to grab a salad from! I took my daughter for the first time today so when asked if we would like some fries to go along with our salads I said yes but asked just for one order for us to share and why did I do that???? Their fries were absolutely delicious! They were seasoned to perfection and I couldn't eat just one.
