"Part greenhouse, part deluxe Basque BBQ, and part vacation for London’s most committed anchovy freaks, Brat’s London Fields location is a much more relaxed take on the original in Shoreditch. Inside, smoke billows from its grills, while The Fence’s target readership smoke palate-cleansing rollies, post-breadathon out front. It’s cool and just a little bit smug—but we would be too if we had this much graphic, colour-funk wall art and knew how to turn a humble lemon sole into something that you won’t shut up about for the next three weeks." - heidi lauth beasley
"Snuggle down in an arch close to London Fields as your whole crab is cooked on open flames and basted with hay butter—this is nature we can get behind. Seafood restaurant Brat in Climpson’s Arch is where to go when you want proximity to the outdoors, while also keeping it at arm’s length. The fairy light-strewn marquee feels like a conservatory, with transparent panels that let you see the sun as you explore the blackboard menu. But you’re still fully tucked away and protected from showers, gusts of wind, and pollinators." - rianne shlebak, jake missing, sinead cranna
"The London Fields location of Brat is a little different to its Shoreditch sibling, but the food maintains its own high wood-fired standard. This covered gourmet greenhouse takes over one of the railway arches to create an atmosphere that’s more casual than the original. There are plastic seats that will give you flashbacks to school assemblies and the airy, indoor-outdoor space has the feel of a particularly bougie barbecue. Yes, it is a sort of glorified gazebo but, particularly in summer, it works. Old British seafood favourites like that butter and vinegar-sprayed whole turbot and bubbling charred anchovy flatbread are still as good as ever." - jake missing, daisy meager, sinead cranna
"If you have trust issues around the British weather, then, honestly, same. But you don’t need to stress about the weather forecast if you’re heading for an al fresco meal at Brat’s long-term pop-up in this Hackney arch, because they have a dreamy marquee that’s insulated and strung with those ever-trendy exposed lightbulbs. Although realistically the setting is just the tip of the unique dining iceberg here, because it’s the food that truly makes this spot pure magic. They’re serving all of their Basque grill favourites from their Shoreditch restaurant, including the charred anchovy-topped flatbread, the beloved smoky potatoes, and their whole turbot which we have spoken about more than Brexit and the comfort-level of Birkenstocks combined." - heidi lauth beasley
"It’s not that we’re saying that we love Brat’s whole turbot more than 90% of our friends. But we’re not not saying that. Judging us? That’s okay. We’d judge us too, right up until the moment where you’re met by an epiphany in fish form. But Brat’s turbot isn’t the only thing on the menu you should be getting involved in, they also serve some of London’s best bread. Find them throughout August at their al fresco pop up at Climpson’s Arch." - heidi lauth beasley
