The 20 Best Hotels on the Greek Islands to Book This Summer | Vogue

"On car-free Hydra, this former 1860 sponge factory channels the island’s creative spirit with restored whitewashed walls and exposed beams, plus an inviting pool and a restaurant serving a contemporary spin on Greek cuisine. The atmosphere feels artful but unpretentious, and for a splurge I opt for the two-level Virani suite—once the building’s office—exquisitely restored with period details and hand-painted friezes." - Monica Mendal, Elly Leavitt

Bratsera Hotel | Best places to stay in Hydra

"Hidden behind whitewashed walls, this small hotel is a peaceful oasis set back from Hydra’s bustling port. A converted sponge factory built in 1860, Bratsera brims with character. Colonial-style furniture and nautical antiques decorate the lobby. Shabby-chic rooms in pastel shades are simply but strikingly furnished, with wooden floors, antique prints, and linen drapes. Most overlook the lovely pool and restaurant, set in a courtyard draped in wisteria. For old-fashioned charm, Bratsera is unrivalled on Hydra. It’s set on a quiet alley surrounded by traditional stone houses with tiled roofs and flower-filled courtyards. It’s only two minutes’ stroll to the port with its lively cafés, shops, bars and restaurants. " - Rachel Howard

What a relief to reach here. From getting here on a strike day. The front desk (Alexandra) found a plan B for us and kept in touch with our driver to make sure all was ok. The hotel itself is rustic and charming, an old sponge factory. Maybe not hi tech glamour but if you don’t need that and are happy with eclectic decor it’s ideal. My room was large and had its own private courtyard. Location is great- a short walk from the port and full of restaurants and cafes. Highlight was breakfast- El was particularly delightful and friendly and the choices were extensive and delicious. I loved it here- by far my best experience in Greece

Whilst staying in Hydra, my husband and I went for dinner at the Bratsera Hotel. From the moment we were welcomed through the door, we knew we were in for a wonderful experience. The ambiance and the setting of the restaurant were spectacular, and the service was of equally top quality. We opted to share a Tuna Niçoise salad to start, which was hands-down the best Niçoise salad I’ve ever had. It was incredibly fresh, and the flavours absolutely sang. For the main course, I opted for the oxtail orzo, which was, again, packed full of flavour and a hearty portion. The whole experience was faultless, and I thought the price was very reasonable for the quality of the food. I would absolutely recommend a visit to the Bratsera Hotel restaurant if you're visiting Hydra, as it was sublime from start to finish.

I unfortunately just had a negative experience staying at the Bratsera this past week. It was my 3rd time staying there and when I contacted the hotel to request a room on one level due to an injured foot I was told that they only had rooms on 2 levels but they would contact me if one became available. They never did and upon arrival had a one level room for my travel companion but not for me. She booked her room months after I did. Second, they are a worker working right outside of my door for 2 consecutive days and on the second day I found the floor outside of my room covered with water and found an open bag of garbage outside of my room. I informed the front desk and they got rid of it but no one apologized or offered my anything. I tried to phone the front desk to let them know I was ready to check out but my phone did not work. It was dead. Finally when it was time to check out I went to the front desk and asked for someone to help me carry my bag down the stairs of my 2 level room and was told there was no one available to help me at 9am on a Sunday before my upcoming boat departure. I wrote to the management after my negative experience and was not given any sort of apology and was told the following in an email: 1. I should have managed my own booking to monitor if a one level room becoming available as I booked on a travel platform 2. I should have understood that the worker was there during quiet hours and should not have been bothered by the garbage 3. If I needed help with my bag it was my responsible to hire an outside porter service I have been traveling in Greece for the past 40 years and am now working as a travel professional and find this unacceptable behavior from any hotel. Greece is a country that prides itself of good hospitality and the Bratsera has 4 stars and prices to match.

We loved our stay at Bratsera. The rooms were good, the restaurant, the food, the generous breakfast (the best of our holiday by far), the pool and the lovely welcoming staff all superb. We stayed for five nights and enjoyed Hydra as a slow relaxing end to a three stop holiday. Our 19yo and 13yo loved it. Probably not right for younger kids. Highly recommend Bratsera - loved it.

My wife and I loved our stay at Bratsera Hotel (our first time to Hydra) and we certainly plan to return to Hydra and this hotel next September. We wanted to mention particularly how impressed we were with all the staff from reception, restaurant and housekeeping who definitely made our stay memorable and enjoyable for us: nothing was too much trouble. Many hotels have lots of facilities to offer but what, in our view, makes a hotel stand out, is the quality of its staff: at Bratsera hotel, this was exceptional. Thank you.

😊: The breakfast was something I look forward to for the 4 days i was here. Location was very well situated, slightly further away from the very lively junction of restaurants. It was a lovely stay, esp appreciatr being able to stay in by the pool for the hours where it was particularly hot.. 😢: Though I know its a tricky one with an old building, i wish sound insulation could be improved. There was one particular night where the noise from the house / villa behind had a party in their yard and noise was spiling until 3am in the morning which made it a bit rough for me..

The Brastera Hotel boasts an exceptional location just steps from the port, making it incredibly convenient for exploring Hydra. The elegant courtyard is a true oasis – fresh, beautifully maintained, and featuring a comfortable pool that's perfect for relaxing after a day of sightseeing.||The restaurant deserves special mention. Both breakfast and dinner were excellent, with quality food and pleasant service. This was definitely a highlight of our stay.||However, there were several issues that prevented this from being a five-star experience:||- The reception staff were merely adequate – polite but not particularly warm or helpful, which was surprising given the hotel's upscale positioning.||- Our main disappointment was the Superior room. Despite paying a premium rate, the room bore little resemblance to the description and photos on the website. This felt like a significant letdown and didn't meet our expectations for the price point.||- Even more puzzling was finding that the wardrobe in our room was being used as storage for linens and supplies for other rooms. This not only reduced our storage space but felt unprofessional for a hotel of this caliber.||- Finally, I left my laptop charger in the room on checkout day. Despite the room presumably being cleaned and checked, no one contacted me about it, which was disappointing.||The Brastera has real potential with its location and facilities, but attention to detail and guest service need improvement.

Such a beautiful hotel on beautiful Hydra! Bratsera has a very nice, welcoming, authentic ambience; it is an escape I am happy to recommend to anyone. Attentive service. Very generous breakfast with fresh, healthy, savory, sweet options. Perfect location at Hydra; very close to the harbour but just by entering the hotel you move into a state of calm. Hope to be back soon!
