Where to Find Latin American Favorites in Portland and Beyond

"Beyond rodizios like Brazil Grill and national chain Fogo de Chão, Brazilian food isn’t easy to come by in Portland. Belmont food cart Brazilian House fills the gap by offering comforting classics like feijoada, the hearty black bean stew filled with sausage and smoked meat, and moqueca, a coconut milk-based seafood stew flavored with palm oil. The cart shares a pod with local legends like Viking Soul Food, with shared seating." - Krista Garcia

Google
The food was really really good! Absolutely loved it! The women working there was also very nice and made the experience fun! I will definitely be back and I 100% recommend eating here for anyone! You’re going to love it!

Gustavo Soares

Google
Heloísa’s Brazilian food is as authentic as you can get! Her seasoning is spot on - so flavorful! Highly recommended! Feijoada and Feijão Tropeiro are my top #2 favorites!

Andrew Germer

Google
THIS is the way to expose yourself to Brazilian food without breaking the bank. The owner is so sweet and the food is unbelievable. If you don’t know what to get, just start with item 1 and come back for the next dish — you won’t regret it.

Grant Mooney

Google
best food i've eaten in ages. not only were the empanadas some of the best i've ever eaten, the price was great ($8 for 3 big empanadas), and the service couldn't have been more friendly. thank you. this meal may have turned me into a foodie

Erick Nagy

Google
Delicious Brazilian food, wide variety of options to choose from. Great service from Eloisa. As Brazilian I do recommend this place for whoever wants a taste of Brazil in PDX.

Google
It has been a long time since I’ve been in Brazil but this was an amazing refresher of that experience. Excellent food, much better than many of Portland’s more well- known restaurants. It is a 45 minute drive for us and we will be doing this again and again. Pick up some beer at the cart three doors down and enjoy the heated covered picnic table area.

Peter

Google
Very authentic Brazilian cooking. We had beef feijoada and moqueaca with cod fish. Both delicious. Very friendly service. Eloisa, it’s a great restaurant.

Mikiko Freund

Google
Really great and authentic Brazilian food. Got the feijoada, Brazilian steak, and the quinoa salad. All three are delicious!

Mike L.

Yelp
The moqueca is out of this world, exploding with flavor but still light. The person serving me both times had a welcoming smile and friendly presence. Will absolutely be a regular here.

Yelp
4.25 stars. This highly addictive food truck specializes in Brazilian cuisine and that doesn't mean fancy waiters carrying around all sorts of pork and steak cuts. Rather, you'll likely receive a hearty stew, rice and beans, or empanadas (there is a Brazilian steak option as well). I tried two items: 1) a chicken and okra combination served with pinto beans, rice, parsley and tomatoes and 2) a black bean and rice dish studded with flavorful meat (beef, sausage, bacon) and topped with collard green. Both were delightful with a nice balance of flavors. Some might note that these dishes are mostly rice and beans - and they would be right - but those bases for these dishes are well prepared. In a city chock full of incredible food, Brazilian House stands out as a budget friendly option that captures the imagination.

Yelp
Stop #5a on "The One Day Adventure in Portland" Is there some chemical released when greens (kale, collards, etc) are cooked that makes them go from "meh" to "YAYAY"? This delicious food is at a food truck surrounded by about 5 to 7 other food trucks and one drink truck (see #5b - Hindsight). Which makes it a perfect spot when everyone can't decide on what they want to eat! Stepped up to the window, ordered. He handed me a beeper and I barely had time to grab a drink and find a seat. This food was ready quick! How do they get the rice to this perfect consistency, soft without being mushy or sticky? I need to know the secret. The greens were sliced in long pieces and cooked just a touch. This made them warm and flavorful while still having just a touch of crunch. Okay, going to get real for a second. I wasn't prepared for the tropeiro. It reminded me of an egg scramble meshed with refried beans. It didn't look great, but it tasted amazing! I found myself wishing I had some tortillas to scoop it into and some hot sauce to add to it. Service was friendly and all business. When I stepped up, he was clearly busy cleaning things. The meal came in one of those black meal-prep type containers. You know the ones! Black bottom, clear lid that never quite snaps into place to your liking. Which is convenient whether you want to eat in or take it to go.

Yelp
Moqueca was incredible, with a perfectly-mildly-spiced sauce. Yucca was the perfect choice for this dish, and fully vegan, at a spot that skewed heavily towards animal proteins - mostly beef. Chicken, fish and shrimp were other options for this item.
google avatar

Yelp
Really great and authentic Brazilian food. Got the feijoada, Brazilian steak, and quinoa salad. All three are delicious! This is located in a food truck park so it is outdoor seating only but there are tents covering most of the seats.

Yelp
Love this food, service, and atmosphere.. I've been in 2-3 months ago, the wait is long, we chose the bar, there was no waiting.

Tal V.

Yelp
Hands down the best Brazilian food in town. The food is absolutely delicious and the people running the cart are so friendly. Highly recommend the Moqueca. It's like a curry but with a completely unique taste. If you love meat, the #2 and #3 are super popular. If you can, definitely order the #10 (Coxinha). These are addicting and you'll want to get more!

Yelp
Brazilian House is one of my favorite food trucks now! The moqueca was to die for. No one in our party was able to describe the flavor profile as it was unique from anything we had, instead it was "it's amazing! You have to try it." It's a coconut base, and makes you think a Thai curry, but it's not, it's simply beautiful. The pastels, yucca, and plantains were Perfect! We've all had yucca, and plantains. All of us, in our party, had less than exciting experiences in the past with these foods! This experience though, changed all of our feelings about these humble, yes delicious foods. In addition we had our 2 year old, and 10 year old who loved ALL of it. When all of the kids, and adults love ALL if the food purchased you definitely have a W!

Yelp
The Feijoada was the highlight for me, I hadn't had good Brazilian food like this since Florida. It's a rare find in Portland, and it's very impressive. The owner was very sweet and excited to serve us.

Sofia M.

Yelp
Amazing authentic food served w a smile. I am Brazilian and when I feel homesick I go here. Takes like your grandma made it. The employees are kind and the prices are fair. The ambiance is casual. When I go to mount tabor, I try and stop by.

Yelp
Brazilian House is now on the list of carts I will frequently visit. Today, it was the first item listed on the menu(which is usually the best): the Moqueca with cod. So good! This dish complements their excellent rice so well so don't scoop too much of the latter or you'll run out. Also, the hours listed on Yelp might be dated, I showed up twice and they were closed. ------- Seems I'm late to the game regarding this authentic gem. First, the lady (owner?) is so very nice. I satisfied my protein and veggie craving with their Brazilian steak: for $10.35 it's one the better food cart deals. The steak quality is probably on the lower end, but the flavorable spice makes up for it. The rice is not an afterthought like at most carts, here it's buttery, flaky, with a hint of garlic. The quinoa (I substitute it for the black beans) was excellent, as were the greens. What would take it up a notch is some sort of interesting sauce, e.g., a Chimichurri-based one. A solid and filling meal. I look forward to attacking their menu.

Johan M.

Yelp
For something different for dinner, go here. I especially enjoy the Brazilian Beef dinner. It also comes with some greens and black beans. Makes me feel so healthy.
google avatar

Max K.

Yelp
The best food cart in Portland hands down. Very authentic food. My girlfriend is part Brazilian and LOVES this place as well. It's a weekly eat for us!
google avatar

Nando D.

Yelp
This place is simply fantastic!! Heloisa is very friendly and her cooking skills oh boy, I can't begin to tell ya how great it is. Been there now twice since I live in San Diego but both times hit the jackpot Soooooooo good! Great thing is I now am moving to Vancouver, WA I will keep going back to this Brazilian truck spot. If you enjoy Brazilian at really affordable prices, you are heading in the right direction. Food is simply delicious! Obrigado Heloisa

Sperare E.

Yelp
Coxinha were awesome! Pasteis were too! Best I've had since Brazil. I plan to go back next week.

Yelp
The Brazilian dishes here are a unique stand-out from the usual food cart fare. The food is very filling, fresh, and yummy. The tropeiro is my favorite so far, lots of protein with some greens to balance it out. The moqueca reminded me of a Thai coconut milk curry. It was good but heavy on the onions. I also liked the empanadas and guava soda. The owner was nice and there is plenty of seating and a nice atmosphere in the pod where the cart is situated.
google avatar

Karla K.

Yelp
If you want authentic, and delicious brazilian food, this is the place to go! Honestly everything on the menu is fantastic, I highly recommend trying Brazilian House, if you haven't yet! Thank you Heloisa for such wonderful food!
google avatar

Stephanie E.

Yelp
The owner was super sweet and chatted with us a little. We grabbed our food to go and once we got home we're so happy ! The food is delicious. You must try this gem. We ordered the Brazilian Feijoada, Moqueca Com Camarao, and fried Yucca.
google avatar

Evan G.

Yelp
I ordered online, paid and showed up to find that the place was closed. If there was an option for zero starts I would have picked it. Avoid this place like the plague

Robert P.

Yelp
I love coming here. Moqueca is my favourite and the coxinha is perfect sized and fried. Would come back everyday
google avatar

Justina R.

Yelp
Simple yet flavorful, 10/10 would recommend, she anything on the menu paired w that classic Guaraná
google avatar

Carla M.

Yelp
Everything in this place is amazing! As a Brazilian, I totally recommend Brazilian House! And Heloisa, is the sweetest thing, ever! Enjoy some Tropeiro and coxinha for me! ;)

Rainy D.

Yelp
Authentic Brazilian food from the state of Minas. Best cochinas I've ever had. Food prepared right in front of you. The owner is super lovely also. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Authentic Brazilian cuisine! Opportunity know the Brazilian flavor . Recomendado para o publico que sente falta da comida brasileira, e busca o sabor único que lembra a comida feita nas casas de varias regiões do pais.

Yelp
Heloisa's food is like crack-cocaine! Enduringly good. And in these Covid-19 times, she has not reduced the proportions.
google avatar

Angel S.

Yelp
I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!! The shrimp stew is MARVELOUS in particular. I love the way she does the yucca and the black beans are perfect.. This is my favorite comfort food and I bring friends when I am in charge of choosing the place... :) Tudo tudo tudo é excelente... Meu Deus! Now I am hungry again... If you are curious about Brazilian food, this is where you need to go. If you like or love Brazilian food, same answer....
google avatar

Rose T.

Yelp
Delicious! Authentic Brazilian food made with love at this spot! I got the feijoada plate with a side of petisco (fried yucca and plantain). It was enough food for two meals but I had to have all the flavors!
google avatar

Ben N.

Yelp
Whenever the weather is overcast, I yearn for authentic Brazilian food. Maybe it's because I used to live in Brazil, and I love speaking Portuguese, but Heloisa at the #BrazilianHouse #FoodCart makes the best feijoada, moqueca, tropeiro, coxinha, and Brazilian steak in Portland. Seriously, if you want a hot plate for under $10 (and a drink of Guarana), be sure to stop by! #43rdAndBelmont #PDXfoodie #PortlandOregon #BrazilianFood #BrazilianHouse #BiteOnBelmont

Tyler F.

Yelp
My wife is from Brazil and everything that she has tried has been authentic. The owner is very nice and upfront. Call before you arrive if you are expecting to order something specific. She can sell out quick of the popular items. We highly recommend this place, especially if you are looking for good Brazilian food at a reasonable price.
google avatar

Yash K.

Yelp
What a delight to find a Brazilian authentic place here in Portland and that too the chef from minas gerais. I got the coxinha, feijoada, moqueca and everything was spot on. Amazing and authentic flavor. Having lived in Brazil I m always craving for the food from there and so happy with this find. Ended up chatting in Portuguese. Muito prazer...

Yelp
Holy camoly Batman! We all ordered the Moqueca; 2 with shrimp, one with chicken and we all gobbled up our meal and practically licked the black plastic containers clean! What is Moqueca, you ask? It's a heavenly stew made with red pepper, green pepper, onions, tomato, palm oil and coconut milk; served with rice and meat. The sauce is yellow and looks like curry but the taste is far more Thai than middle eastern. The food cart itself is very nondescript, and I was a tiny bit weary at first, but the line that formed behind us after ordering reassured us that this was a hidden gem. The great reviews online also told us we were going to enjoy our meals. Now we have to return to try the Feijoada, a black bean, bacon, beef and sausage stew served with rice and covered with thinly sliced collard greens. We used a restaurant.com coupon and saved about $8 on our 3 meals. That got us there but the delicious food is what will get us to go back.
google avatar

Amanda M.

Yelp
Delicious. My husband asked if it was wrong to lick the plate after finished eating #2. We split the plantains and I had the savory #1.
google avatar

Dawn S.

Yelp
Between the rain and ongoing pandemic stay-at-homedness, the day was starting to feel pretty bleak. To break up the blues and blahs, I decided to try out this new-to-me food cart. I'm so glad I stopped by! I brought home the Tropeiro and the Moqueca with Cod. The Tropeiro was warm, comforting, and flavorful, perfect for an overcast day. The Moqueca, which features a creamy yellow sauce, was not only completely delicious and satisfying, but the sunny hue totally perked me up. I'll definitely be going back!
google avatar

Angik S.

Yelp
Ended up eating no 1 both times. It tastes very much like Thai curry though there are subtle differences. Would probably return again to try the other dishes.
google avatar

William H.

Yelp
Delicious. At $8 for such a large amount of food, it's a bargain. Owner was extremely friendly and we had a good time talking about the insane bureaucracy in Brazil. I had the Maqueca and it was definitely how she described it, the palm oil is what makes that distinct flavor. I definitely will try the feijoada next time. I went back to tell her how it good it was, but a large group of Brazilians had descended on her cart, craving for the food of her homeland. I'm guess that's a good sign that the food is legit.
google avatar

Steve A.

Yelp
I love this place! The food is perfect! Simple and affordable - cooked with sensitivity and passion! I love both the Moqueca and the Feijoada - which are hard to find around Portland. I'm always greeted with a smile and wonderful service
google avatar

Ana W.

Yelp
Heloisa makes the best coxinhas and tropeiro. As a Brazilian I can say that the food really tastes like the food in Brazil.
google avatar

Carmen M.

Yelp
This is a food cart that I took a girlfriend to for her birthday. Seriously the woman should own her own restaurant. The food was so tasty! I had the #1 coconut sauce with shrimp. Yum!! Not to mention she's a hard working single mom that opened this business in a dime and a prayer. Go see Heloisa. You won't regret this meal!!
google avatar

Marcia P.

Yelp
Heloisa is the best. No wonder she is from Minas Gerais the place where almost all amazing Brazilian cooks come from. The feijoada is lean and super-flavorful. The moqueca is fresh and faithful to our traditional fish stews. A feast to your palate. The amazing coxinhas and the fresh sautéed kale are a dream.
google avatar

Yelp
Finally, my first Brazilian food cart! I remember a Brazilian cart at the old D-Street Noshery pod (probably two years ago) that abruptly closed before I had a chance to try the food. One of the menu items from that cart was also on this menu, and the curious panda just had to try it. Feijoada ($8) is deemed Brazil's national dish: a bean and beef stew containing black beans, bacon, beef, sausage, green onions, and garlic. It was served with rice and collard greens. I admit I didn't have to read any further once I saw bacon (but I kept on reading anyway). All the meats brought awesome flavor to this dish. Moqueca ($8) is a Brazilian fish stew that contains coconut milk. There are options to get it with chicken or shrimp instead. It's served with rice and tomatoes. Tropeiro ($8) is another traditional dish featuring pinto beans, bacon, beef, sausage, green onions, eggs, garlic, and yucca flour. It's a solid recommendation. NOTE: Brazilian House operates out of the old Rockabillies food cart.

Angelica S.

Yelp
The food is amazing! Heloisa is adorable, always working very hard with a smile on her face. First time there? Try the beef pastel, coxinhas, and the Tropeiro! I dare you to say that Brazilian House's food is not one of the yummiest in PDX!
google avatar

Kevin W.

Yelp
Food truck/cart situated in a park of food eats. This place offers unique food from the land of Brazil. Taste a bit of the amazing country as you enjoy the staples of their cuisine. I ordered the Tropeiro #3 which consists of 3 meats mixed together with an egg. I am a sucker for meaty dishes so, naturally, I had to order it.
google avatar

Juliana K.

Yelp
Every time I come here I wish I was three people so that I could order one of everything. I know Brazilian food very well and this place has the best authentic Brazilian food. The fish moqueca and the coxinhas are my favorites. They are so tasty and that hot sauce is the real deal. If you have never tried Brazilian food (or if you have) I'd highly recommend you to start at the Brazilian House, you'll want to come back a thousand times.
google avatar

Bruno G.

Yelp
Great authentic Brazilian food. The lady is very kind. First time I came to Portland and had a good experience.
google avatar

Anita E.

Yelp
Hubby and I ate here in celebration of the Rio Olympics over the summer and we were NOT disappointed. The food was amazing! Having lived in Brazil awhile back, I am thrilled that they serve something beyond the usual churrascuria (BBQ on a skewer). We shared the moqueca (shrimp in coconut sauce) some pastels (savory fried pastries) and tropeiro (Brazilian style rice, collard greens, beans, etc). Just super filling bites of yumminess. Had to get a guarana to drink. You can tell there is love in the cooking that is done at this food cart. Good covered seating by the cart so you can go in any weather. Price was right. It was great to feel some Brazilian spirit in Portland! Obrigada!
google avatar

Dan A.

Yelp
Yummy food! I've tried four dishes so far, and they're all very different, and all awesome. The quinoa salad is light and refreshing. The feijoada with black beans, sausage, beef and bacon is so flavorful and nourishing. And almost everything on their menu is gluten free too!
google avatar

Brandonopolis J.

Yelp
I love the owner ! Such a loving ray of sunshine ! All of her Food is cooked with love. I had the moqueqa and it was so creamy and limey and comforting. I'm going to go back for her fried yucca and plantains! Came back 2 weeks ago and the owner looked high as a kite. Might have been an exhausting day or she has recently been dabbling in naughty drugs as she's frying up that yucca. Came back this time for some plantains --- soooo good but the owners hair was fried into my plantain.. it didn't stop me .. since I know the head it came from .. would probably be a turn off for most... but I ate it anyway

Corina S.

Yelp
Her food is amazing! But good luck finding her food truck open. Even when it says online the business hours and when it says is open. That's the 5th time this year I drove 40 minutes to find closed. Not ok.
google avatar

Linda W.

Yelp
We were out and about on the SE side of Portland. We got hungry and remembered there was a genuine Brazilian food cart nearby. The owner was so friendly and helpful! Try the Monqueca or Tropeiro if you want authentic. There are more dishes available now on the menu than in the "menu photo" pictured from 2 years ago. Obrigada!
google avatar

Sudipto G.

Yelp
Another great food truck on Belmonts' pod. Tried the #1 dish which is chicken in a yellow coconut curry. Very flavorful and reminded me of the Malai Prawns curry which is a specialty dish in east india.. will go back to try some of their other dishes for sure.. especially the seafood ones which looked super interesting!
