"Bread Alone's sourdough is a staple in New York's fancy loaf scene, but they have also have brick-and-mortar cafes sprinkled around the Hudson Valley. The location in Woodstock is small, but it’s a good stop for coffee and a pastry. Their other locations are in Kingston and Rhinebeck, if one of them suits your weekend getaway better, and all of them have things like specialty chocolate and small-batch jam." - Anne Cruz

Google
Great bakery with fresh ingredients and baked goods. A little on the pricy side but worth it.

Google
Excellent choice for bread, sandwiches and coffee. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Everything looks good!

It’s so good we went back twice in 1 day! Make sure you pick up your bread and pastries early as they sell out of some items by early afternoon, even on a Monday! For breakfast we got the toast and sandwich pictured, delicious! Hot honey is very very hot! Cappuccino was delicious. We returned for iced matcha and chais for lunch along with regular & chocolate Croissants, lemon scone, canele, & eclair. Everything was truly amazing, restaurant was clean, plenty of seating, lots of variety to eat & drink, positive vibe. Grab an olive loaf of bread sliced to go, no regrets!

Google
We had a great experience at the bakery. We had butter croissant, almond croissant, morning bun, avocado toast and a mocha. I loved morning bun, it’s a simple yet tasty bun, almond croissant was good, butter croissant was decent, mocha as well. Avocado toast can be better.

Google
Absolutely delicious and freshly baked goods. The croissants met our expectations being crisp and flaky. Additionally, I had the chicken noodle soup with fresh bread which was perfection. The service was quick and convenient. Everyone was wearing a mask which I appreciated. We sat outside and enjoyed our lunch as there are benches along the street. Great location and town.

Google
Bread alone has always been one of my favorite lunch sppts and I had the most fantastic Salmon on Rye sandwich here today which only confirmed the fact that Bread alone hands down has the best coffee and sandwiches in the hurson valley!!! Just superb! 10/10 food, service, and atmosphere

Google
10 out of 10! The food is all homemade. The bread.......I could go on and on for days. Please do yourself a favor....EAT HERE! Homemade soups, the BEST AVO toast. The line moves quick so don't be scareddddd. 10 stars for real, quality food.

Google
This used to be an amazing bakery since the remodel the food has really taken a hit. The croissants on a Sunday morning not a bit of flake to them. The overnight oats were so dry and thick they stuck to the spoon. The muffins not a bit moist. Hearing more complaints than anything lately its a shame as it was great food, great place to meet friends.

Yelp
We love going to Rhinebeck cafe! The grilled cheese and tomato soup is our favorite combination! Yesterday was soooo cold it really hit the spot! Having a slice of cheesecake for dessert and a hot cup of coffee was a happy ending! The employees are amazing and so helpful! Our favorite cafe!!!

Yelp
So I came to visit the popular &beautiful bread alone Café. The ambience and customer service are great. I just made the mistake of maybe getting the same thing I got last time without knowing I got a hot chocolate which taste like a Swiss miss packet with hot water (I ordered it with almond milk). To get a 12 ounce hot chocolate as you see in the picture this is how full it was. I took two small sips because it was hot. It should've been filled more to the top. And I got a chocolate vegan loaf, which was kind of tasteless very crummy and I would not want to get it again. But I have had their salmon and lox toasted bagel, which was very good. I would definitely get that again. Surprisingly, I went back to the counter and asked the gentleman that bag my items which he wasn't wearing gloves, but both my pastries were put in the bag with no parchment paper or napkins. So I don't know I've never seen that before personally myself 2bakery items in a bag with nothing covering it- it felt really weird to me . Thank you for your great customer service and beautiful cafe. Because you're so busy please make sure the tables are wiped down more often.

Hayward L.

Yelp
Amazing selection of breads and pastries here. Be prepared to wait in line in the morning busy periods. A lot of the most popular products sell out by late morning. Beautiful interior and decent coffee as well.

Darren G.

Yelp
Service was so upbeat, friendly and polite, really felt valued as a customer and always great to see people enjoy their work. So for the food, so glad outside of bread and coffee they got whole deal, so many artisan pastries to choose from like muffins, danishes and cheesecake. My hot chocolate was rich and creamy and my muffin and canele which I never heard of before were delicious. The building itself is beautiful with plenty of sunlight shining in and so spacious and clean dining area, to unwind to break bread.

Yelp
Honestly I've loved this place forever, but I went yesterday and had the pork sandwich (their menu is typically seasonal so it changes a few times a year and I hadn't had this yet) and WOW. Truly one of the best sandwiches I've had in a long time. Fresh baguette toasted just enough, delicious pork, havarti cheese, and this incredible aioli with pickles. I cannot even tell you how great this sandwich was. Everyone was super nice as always, and it was crowded because of the holiday season, but that's to be expected. You've got to try this sandwich.

Yelp
Update needed. Bread alone is still a great place for coffee, bread, sandwiches, and pastries. However, I need to post that dogs are no longer allowed inside. I still highly recommend it, though

Caroline E.

Yelp
Their pastries are so buss!!!!!!!! Especially the baker's muffin. Their sandwiches are also buss!!!!!!!!

Craig A.

Yelp
Stopped in by chance on a trip and was totally impressed. Bought a bunch of pastries for some friends. Really good stuff, impeccably clean and the staff is on the ball.

Paul B.

Yelp
Amazing. Fresh and super duper friendly! We buy the cookies and pastries and freeze them and they're as delicious as ever! I highly recommend the oatmeal cookies, lemon loaf and almond croissants, which are a triumph!

Berni Z.

Yelp
New Year's Day so kitchen was closed but there was a selection of to go items. Counter service was attentive. More seating than expected. Great for a quick bite while walking about.

Abby S.

Yelp
I did not have high expectations coming here since I am not a huge fan of chain establishments, but I was really impressed with my experience here this morning. Service was friendly and speedy. They also have a ton of seating in the front, back and outdoors. The coffee was from Iriving Farms and the menu for food was extremely varied. We tried the egg and cheese and it tasted like a fresh fried egg. My only complaint was the bread didn't taste great, which was ironic with this place being called "Bread Alone." It tasted more like an older hot dog bun, but the rest of the experience was good.

Caroline C.

Yelp
This was such a cool bakery. The food was really good. The bakery was so pretty and new looking. Really enjoyed our experience here.

K E.

Yelp
Absolutely terrific. I've never had a curried chicken salad sandwich in my life and this was one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. We also had the pork sandwich which was out of this world as well. The bread the sandwiches came on which I believe they make their is also outstanding. Light, crunchy, air, and not too filling. A perfect compliment to the sandwiches. We will be back for sure.

Joey D.

Yelp
A must in Rhinebeck. The bread on sandwich will beat any place in Rhinebeck and rest of our Milky Way galaxy. Fresh avacado. Sausage flavorful and light. Crispy arugula for your healthy choice of greens. ... and the coffee is solid. Crowd pleaser in Rhinebeck

Pippin H.

Yelp
What was once a pleasant cafe with certain personality, and local history is now a cafeteria that gives fast-food, transient vibes. No longer the feeling of hosted welcome and stability. Sadness They feed you off trays and paper cups. You have to ask for silverware. Come on! The food suffers from an excess of caution ... or moderation. As a consequence the dishesacome across as bland. (Please consult you pantry of seasonings and juice up the flavahflave!) This was once a favorite spot. No longer. In its new 'cafeteria' format, the Bread Alone cafe is more like the 'food court' at the Bronx Zoo. Do yourself a favor and hit another eatery, otherwise, you'll regret it.

Daniela M.

Yelp
Their bread is fantastic, made with the highest-quality ingredients. All of their food from the sandwiches, pastries to the coffee is wonderful! The staff is also very friendly and accommodating.

Margarita R.

Yelp
Stopped in on my way back to Philly. It's a cute bakery with indoor and outdoor seating. There was a large selection of breads and pastries. It was pretty packed but it didn't take long to get our food. We opted for egg and cheese sandwiches and ice coffee. You have to add your own milk and sugar here. Overall, our food and coffee were delicious and the bread soft. I'd return if I am back in the area.

K L.

Yelp
I wish I took a picture of the beautiful loaf of whole wheat loaf of bread we purchased! Friendly service and such reasonable prices! I would definitely be a regular at this sweet little bread shop if I lived in the area!

Manish C.

Yelp
Bread Alone Bakery is located in the charming & historic part of Rhinebeck. They have plenty of indoor seating and a small outdoor patio area. I have a feeling that my experience may have been better if I visited earlier in the day when items were baked fresh or if I had gotten breakfast or lunch. We got a chocolate chip cookie and an almond croissant, both of which were decent, but not great with regards to recipe. The chocolate chip cookie was nothing to write home about, as I've had much better. The almond croissant had lost it's flakiness by midday and was similarly underwhelming. They are about $8 which is a bit on the pricier side, but not unreasonable. I might return in the future, but will stick to breads & food items which seem to get rave reviews.

Christina L.

Yelp
Lightest crispiest bagel I've ever had, good coffee, friendly service. Lots of people picking up to go orders, bread looked great.

Sue M.

Yelp
Quality sandwiches, excellent bread. Seat yourself in this casual, order at the counter cafe. A little pricey, but what isn't these days? A solid choice in a charming village.

Christine J.

Yelp
We got takeout on a Monday morning. Delicious coffee - Avocado toast was yummy and the bread was super tasty. Also had the Morning Bun and the Lemon and Currant Scone - both lovely. Even though there was a line, it moves quickly and you get your coffee/food without too much of a wait.

Pratiksha R.

Yelp
I had always seen bread alone bread at the local grocery store and was curious to visit their cafe when I learned about it. We ordered coffee - cappuccino and latte both were good. We also ordered a squash and halloumi sandwich it was delicious. I have to visit this place for breakfast and try all their baked goods. Great ambiance, polite staff, and yummy food - must visit!

Gwendolyn W.

Yelp
Fabulous bakery! Yummy croissant & great latte. I also splurged on a sandwich to take with me and it was absolutely delicious!

Scott H.

Yelp
First time going here, got a bacon egg and cheese on a poppy seed bagel, absolutely phenomenal! Everything was cooked perfectly. Quick service too! Friendly. A little on the pricey side, but really good!

Nat W.

Yelp
I was excited to grab something sweat after our dinner and didn't seem much was there at the time. An hour before closing, everything looked bare. I asked for a double espresso, which for the record is 2 oz. What I got was barely an ounce. I went over to the counter where this smug manager (I believe) said it was definitely two shots of espresso. You might want to recalibrate your machine or at the very least actually look at what 2 fluid ounces are. It was a disappointing experience and the employees seemed ill mannered. If I was a franchisee, I wouldn't be too happy.

Damian M.

Yelp
I really enjoy the food and most of the staff at Bread Alone, however, get over yourself and get back to a table service restaurant. Ordering in a giant line and having to find a shitty seat with no table service is a terrible customer experience. Also still serving coffee in paper cups..............L A Z Y. Unfortunately, too many businesses like Bread Alone are still using the pandemic as an excuse to not going back to proper customer service, when in reality they are just being incredibly L A Z Y. My five stars go to three :(

Hannah G.

Yelp
Casual bakery and cafe that's busy throughout the day. Get there early if you want a specific loaf because they sell out fast. Sandwiches can be ordered on 7-8 different types of bread. Reliable coffee drinks. Avocado toast was gorgeous and delicious. Thick slabs of bread piled high with chunky avo and tomatoes and spices and vinaigrette. More of a knife and fork affair than finger food.

Cammie L.

Yelp
Excellent service, food and vibe! Our go to for breakfast on our girls trip. We looked forward to it every morning!

Lynne G.

Yelp
I have been eating and buying from Bread Alone for over 10 years. Something is not right. Both the farmer bread and a baguette that we purchased had large holes, I had to toss the sour dough bread. The croissants are mushy. Tonight was the worst. We bought an eclair to enjoy as our dessert and when I cut it in half there was hardly any cream..Things have changed in the last few months. Does anyone know why?

Matthew D.

Yelp
Great coffee selections and fresh pastries!! Staff is knowledgeable The cinnamon bun, almond croissant, and chocolate croissant are amazing. Don't judge, I just had to try them all!!

Jacklyn K.

Yelp
Bread alone is EXCELLENT for breads and decent for a breakfast or coffee. We had brunch today and have visited a few times in the past. Todays visit was pleasant though nothing was insanely memorable. Counter service and easy enough to find a table on a Sunday AM though it was bustling. I had the almond croissant (pretty delish) and the white bean escarole soup (good). The sour dough slice that came with my soup stole the show of course. My husband had the breakfast burrito which was good sized but veryyyyy bland. Our chai tea lattes were yummy as well! Most important take away is to take a loaf or two to go!

Maria C.

Yelp
The bread here is very yummy. I recommend the sourdough. I was in this area attending my daughter's graduation from Bard. The granola was a nicely packaged and was ideal gift for my cat sitter back home.

Leah K.

Yelp
sadly the new configuration of Bread Alone doesn't allow for the kind of efficient and personalized service even during Covid. Some of the Prepared Foods are what you could probably find at Starbucks. You need to get there early to find the pastries etc you really want. and for some reason, they associate it w sesame allergies, there are no sesame bagels and no rye bread to buy in the cafes. The manager has an attitude.

Rabbi Daniel S.

Yelp
Horrible Customer Service Bread Alone delivered my order to the wrong address.  It happens, but the way they responded was totally unacceptable. Even after acknowledging their error, they made no effort to actually deliver it and I had to drive across town to pick it up.  Bread Alone refused to make the situation right and when I brought it to their attention, they took punitive measures against me by claiming a false pretext for future deliveries. All because their driver made a mistake.  They could have said sorry and made the situation right, but instead, they decided to disregard their customer. I hope to do business with companies that actually care about their customers/clients.

Kimberly F.

Yelp
Does not accommodate allergies due to pricing points, and I am only speaking of condiment swapping. If your going to remodel your business then you should at least have the class to follow the decor in service.

Earl D.

Yelp
Love the baked goods, but i can't believe that they don't offer ceramic mugs for dine-in. I don't want to drink out of a paper cup. The ceramic surface of a coffee mug is part of the sensual experience of drinking a cup of coffee. If you're charging $4 for a coffee drink, you need to offer proper ceramic or porcelain mugs for your dine-in customers. Baked goods are also served in take out containers if you're dining in. The beautiful apple pie is not served on a simple white plate. Rather it is given to you in a crypt of cardboard. The staff informed me that it "folds out nicely." I beg to differ. Very disappointing.

Helema K.

Yelp
They have great pastries and bread. I also enjoy their selection of sandwiches and salads. We used to dine there regularly but the service can be a bit off at times. I'm actually glad they no longer offer table service since the servers sometimes could have a bad attitude. The breakfast burrito is my favorite item on the menu. I miss their egg and mushroom sandwich with garlic aioli. Although I have been enjoying the spicy green egg sandwich. It's quite delicious. Lattes are always consistently well made. Ever since they remodeled the store, the line to order food is now reversed and creates a dysfunctional dynamic. The place looks great and glad they added the booths. I just wish they would clean the tables regularly. The last few times I have been there, every open table was filthy. This most recent visit I was there with my family and I asked one of the servers if it would be possible to have the table cleaned and pointed out there was food bits all over the floor under the table, no one came to clean it up so we didn't stay. I'm hopeful things will improve. It's a popular spot in the area.

Jenifer K.

Yelp
Mocha latte was mediocre at best. Awkward configuration to wait in line caused congestion at the door. Even worse, the baker's muffin or whatever it's called tasted like CLEANING FLUID. I haven't been to this place in a while because it is always a disappointment. Definitely my last visit. Go to the cute coffee shop next to the bookstore.

Thomas S.

Yelp
The four of us were sightseeing the downtown area of the town and looking for a light lunch spot. We decided on this cafe because of the great looking bakes. It turned out that the sandwiches were darn good tasting. The sandwiches were very creative and fresh. The bakes tasted good, but we liked the sandwiches more. The sandwiches were small which will not do if you are very hungry. We like to return for another lunch me if schedule permits.

Matt M.

Yelp
Great coffee and baked goods. P.S the fresh made sandwiches are awesome! Don't leave without a sleeve of cookies!

Carolyn F.

Yelp
Maybe because it's late in the day, but I was so disappointed that there was barely anything left. No croissants, but I did walk away with a large ciabatta and Anna Claire. Very pricey as expected.

Natalya B.

Yelp
Lovely place! Stopped by Saturday afternoon; the line was big but moved quickly. Service was great! I ordered latte with regular milk and it was very good; it kept me warm while walking the town.

Jordyn C.

Yelp
They had the best breakfast burrito ever. The eggs, avocado, and beans were just an amazing mix! I tried the overnight oats as well- it was the perfect mix of granola and oats. The bakery is stunning- the renovations are amazing! It's such a great vibe- so fresh! The food literally came out in a few minutes. The service was great, too! Can't wait to be back at Bread Alone!

Gerald N.

Yelp
Only a review of the coffee. Came on a weekend day and there's plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The line moves quickly and there's enough staff to keep it moving quickly. The macchiato is a small 4 oz drink but made strong and with good flavor. I recommend stopping by at least once!

Romina R.

Yelp
We got curbside pickup and it was super easy, safe, and fast! Placed the order online, called when we arrive and our food was brought out minutes later to the trunk of our call. Everything was great we got a variety of sandwiches, muffins, cookie, chocolate croissant, salad, hot apple cider. It is in the middle of downtown Rhinebeck on a super cute street with lots of shops / other restaurants.

MK W.

Yelp
Lunch today at Bread Alone was a disappointment. I was ignored at the register until I asked "Where do I place an order?" three times. Placed the order for 1 Breakfast Burrito, 1 Smoked Salmon Bagel, 1 Cappuccino & 1 Coffee for $31.00. My Smoked Salmon Bagel was mostly cream cheese, w/ a single slice of cucumber and 2 very small, very thinly cut slices of Smoked Salmon - mostly a bagel and cream cheese for $15. My husband's Breakfast Burrito was mostly black beans & a bit of avocado - he couldn't taste any egg, cheese, sour cream or salsa and said the burrito itself was a tasteless mush. Coffees were fine. The restaurant wasn't clean. A customer allowed her two small children to run around the restaurant screaming and getting underfoot - that is when we left, although if I had not grabbed one of my elderly companions, she would have been knocked over by one of the small children allowed to race around the space. One would think management would have stopped this behavior. We will think twice before eating here again, if ever.

Marina W.

Yelp
Jeez, I desperately with I had regular access to Bread Alone. I love their bread. I love their pastries. I love their sandwiches. Stop by, you won't be sorry about it. I miss you, Bread Alone.

Maria Y.

Yelp
Bad flat white, bitter burnt taste. Heavy dense croissant. Had to throw both out. Service is lacking. Ambiance is cold. Giving 2 stars cuz I know some of their other baked items and sandwiches are good.
