"Hong Kong is a city with an appetite bigger than most, so it’s no surprise that the “artisanal sandwich movement” so commonplace in the west has begun to permeate the city. But Bread and Beast is far from “commonplace.” Opening its doors on Swatow Street in August 2014, the standout item has to be the Ngau Lam Wich—a clever play on beef brisket noodles. With housemade pickled daikon and carefully slow-roasted beef, the sandwich is a perfect pairing of East and West…kinda like Hong Kong in a bun." - Isabel Foo

Sometime no expectations is a surprise. I don’t even know there was such a nice place. Waaaooo the sandwiches you can see, such a nice one. I tried the beef and chicken. Both are delicious and juicy. The lotus chip is recommended.

Chinese fusion western style cuisine! Really delicious and good service! Recommended drink: ham +O (so cool, not sweet, mild salted, lime and lemon taste with ginger syrup! Recommended food: Kong fried chicken: really crispy and fresh chicken, no bone, chicken is so soft with crispy outside, salted with lemon sauce is highly matched with the chicken; sheltered crab cheesy cheung fun: it is so special and wonderful! Soft cheung fun with full of fresh crab meat, cheese tastes really great! Love it with good and friendly service!

Come for Happy Hour with friend, like the cozy atmosphere, food is surprisingly delicious. It combined the very traditional HK seasoning and cooking style. I especially love the Cheung Fan with shelter crab and cheese and the salted lime sauce to come with fried chicken is also great.

Brunch sandwiches were good. We had the Lam wich and the kentucky San, the avo egg toast was unexpectedly spicy which was a bit unfortunate as we had ordered it for our toddler, but it was good. It was empty at 1130 on a Sunday.

It's about time that Hong Kong starts getting into these kind of cafe culture. This is a superb spot for a lazy Sunday lunch or any other day and occasion that strikes your fancy. Panini rolls are fresh, sandwich fillings are fantastic, I had the fish special of the month and the Kentucky San. The sides are a must try if you're hungry, lotus root chips and Brussel sprout with onsen egg. Staff are very helpful and friendly. The open air alfresco styled seating and ambience make this place inviting. Tucked away at the end of Swatow Street, a short walk once you get out of A3 exit of Wanchai MTR makes an easy find.

Sandwiches and some pretty wicked salads not to mention some excellent craft beers from this hip eatery in Wan Chai. Looking for some interesting sandwiches/salads that marry Asian flavours with Western Staples? This is the place to go. When I was here I tried the Birdman sandwich with fried chicken, spicy mayo and pickled grape relish - tasty! Along with the Brock Lee salad, which had a nice mix of greens, broccoli, and nuts. Both good. The sandwiches can also be made into salad bowls if you want. 2 friends did this with the beef and said it was very good. They also have a few local beers on tap that go nicely with the menu. Ambiance is friendly and open with a mix of table and high stool seating. Price is around 80 for a sandwich that is a decent sized portion. You won't go hungry here, especially if you add a side which costs around 30-40 or a salad (cost varies by size). If your looking for a good salad and sandwich, try this place.

Had Char Siu Cauliflower Rice Bowl It was okay, service was okay too. Satisfied with the overall experience nothing wow. Also the space is rather small with windows opened which supposed to be a good point however you can smell the cigarette smell when someone smokes outside which wasn’t too pleasant

My all time favourite. With the delicious sandwiches and bar snacks. I love them all. Live music and beers for happy Friday or relaxing Saturday. Little cosy corner of Wanchai!

Yelp
Hidden amongst several other popular, upcoming restaurants on this street is Bread & Beast. I like to come here during lunch because they used to have a lunch set where you can get half the sandwich with fries/a drink. For the quality you get in the food, the price is great if not a bit steep. However, I have to say though the new renovation is a lot more friendlier and open! Aside from the Ngau Lam Wich, try the Char Siu Pork Neck sandwiches- they're delicious! I was definitely eyeing my co-worker's Lap Cheung Chicken Bowl the other day, will have to try that out for the next time.

Yelp
I am obsessed with this sandwich place. I've had all except the veggie by now (so sorry, such a carnivore) and they are all amazing! The succulent porchetta has yummy crispy edges, the fried chicken is juicy with a delicious breading, the beef brisket melts in your mouth. And the bread is fresh and soft. I AM A FAN! Chicken skin chips sure are tasty, but I can never eat more than two at a time. Gluttony overload!!

Yelp
Bread &a Beast is another addition to the trendy hipster-esque vibe that Hong Kong is slowly developing. Décor is trendy, and minimalistic, combining dark colours with very bright ones. Overall, the restaurant offers a very pleasant atmosphere to sit in, for the customer that wants to step back for a second and relax from the busy, bustling environment of the city as a whole. The service is friendly and helpful, but it is considered slow in Hong Kong standards. I personally don't mind it since the place has a very calming vibe, but some customers may for that reason consider the food to be bad, considering how their system (order at the counter) can take a few minutes for larger groups, so people waiting behind may wind up waiting a bit. I ordered the Birdman sandwich and a lemonade iced tea. The iced tea was a bit too sweet for my liking, but overall it had a very pleasant lemon-y flavour to it. The Birdman is good, but it does take a while (~10-15 mins I think?) but they are thoughtful about how they serve it. I like how they picked a crunchier bread to complement the fried chicken. The fried chicken was overall very succulent and tender, though I think they may have gone overboard with frying the chicken. I'm generally a fan of crispy chicken, but what they gave me was crunchy chicken, I.e. I felt that the crust was a little tougher than it needed to be. Then again, you can't please everyone; I know that some people like it that way after all. With this place being a cafe, I ought to try the coffees and espresso beverages sometime. I'd expect that that's another place where they'd really shine.

Yelp
I had this place book marked for a long time. Finally tried the steak sandwich and it was decent. The steak was a little tough and the flavor wasn't that interesting. Unfortunately wasn't that impressed and probably would not go back.

Yelp
When it rains, it pours. Perfect weather to get food delivered to me! Yumtastic Ngau Lam Wich and Chicken skin chips from Bread & Beast. Amazing chicken skin chips - with scrumptious seasoning. I loved it in the combo with my beef sandwich!

Yelp
Amazing sandwiches and really good salads for lunch. As some might have noticed in my few reviews in Hong Kong, everything related to bread is important to me and this might be one of not many places around you can stuff your face with good bread. I ordered the Ngau lam which with 12h slow cooked beef brisket, chi hao mayo and pickled daikon. Very simple but super tasty and the best cure for epic hangovers. Got the beast toss salad on the side which was also really good for a side salad. Great atmosphere, interior and concept overall. Downside: that they only take cash or octopus card. And they don't have Coke.

Yelp
A friend of mine invited me to a Deliveroo-sponsored party at Bread & Beast, and I'm so glad I went! The lap cheung mac and cheese is - not even kidding - the best mac and cheese I've ever had. Other dishes like the fried chicken and the churros with soft serve ice cream were also great, but man, that mac and cheese. Out of this world. Will be back soon to try some of their other dishes!

Yelp
3.5 stars. Came to try the hyped ngau nam sandwich in this hip little sandwich shop. The area is an up and coming gentrified neighbourhood with many other notable expat style eats on the street. I quite liked it as it was nice and quiet. Visiting on a weekend there was a live acoustic band which was totally nice. First stepping in, you get this hipster trendy feel but all in all still somewhat relaxed. They have recently revised their menu and they had quite a few unique sandwiches however I was sold on the beef brisket (ngau nam) sandwich. It was tasty however it needed more umpf and for the price I felt a bit unsatisfied. The meat was tender however I had a numerous globs of fat which turned me off- perhaps many other like it that way. The side of lotus root chips were crispy and tasty but a bit oily. All in all, I would come back to try another sandwich, just wish the price point was a bit more affordable for everyday eating.

Yelp
Found this little gem from a random yelper review. Great little spot to grab a great take on the fried chicken sandwich. While not a huge grape guy outside of jelly,I loved it on the Birdman. The lotus root chips were awesome with and without the aioli. Some fine hitachino beer to top it off and a bar stool on the street.
