Bread & Butter Review - Bedford-Stuyvesant - New York - The Infatuation

"There is no "right" time to go to a bakery, but the best time to visit Bread & Butter in Bed-Stuy is around 11am, when they begin selling savory pastries. That way, you can try both an ube morning bun and some frito pie, while watching them grate pecorino onto your two-inch thick, olive oil-soaked, cacio e pepe focaccia. This isn’t a place where you just get one thing—instead, you order the whole menu, and spend the week finishing it all. Bread & Butter (formerly Back Alley Bread) began as a pop-up selling beignet-like "angel donuts" before moving into this spot on Rockaway Avenue. Sit at a small, mismatched table, and indulge in an assortment of pastries with some coffee as you gaze out of the big windows. photo credit: Willa Moore" - Willa Moore

Food is delicious, very tasty and most of all they are very good on every dish detail. Their seasoned potatoes are sooo good! I would definitely recommend this place. Very quiet and peaceful to have a breakfast with your bestie ❤️

Took myself on a solo breakfast date. The place was empty but the atmosphere was good. I enjoyed the food and would recommend this place.

Google
It's a novelty sit down restaurant. The decor is chic. You order and pay for your meal first, and you're asked for a tip before you've experienced your meal (yes I tipped). They do bring your order to your table. The service is 3 stars because they forgot my chai latte and brought it after I was done with my food. My husband's regular coffee was self serve. The food was ok, that's all.

Looked for a place on Sunday after church around 1pm The place was Not crowded, and had plenty of seating. Upon entering, there's a process and it is pretty simple: First, Pick a table, and Review the menu Next, Go to the counter and order your food Then, Head over to the Soft drinks, Coffee and toast bar, and gather your utensils and napkins And finally, They bring it to your table and enjoy We ordered the Salmon Eggs Benedict and .Chicken Crepes. It came with Plentiful portions. It was really tasty. Friendly team, always helpful. Would go back, oh yes, I highly recommend this place. To Go boxes and bags if needed Easy to find and plenty of parking

We love this place! The menu is great with lots of options for breakfast and brunch. We drive 30 min to eat here and it is worth it. I like that they serve beef bacon. The atmosphere is vibrant and some times they have live music. Although for the size of the place that can get really loud. The service crew is very friendly and always had good service. It is a spot that we recommend to friends and family.

Tucked away in the heart of the city, this charming restaurant is a true hidden gem. Their brunch menu is a feast for the senses, featuring beautifully presented dishes that are as delicious as they are visually stunning. Every bite reflects their commitment to quality and creativity, making it the perfect spot for food enthusiasts. What truly sets this place apart is the exceptional service - attentive, friendly, and always with a smile. Whether you're catching up with friends, enjoying a leisurely solo meal, or celebrating a special occasion, this hidden gem is the place to be.

Came here before work and was disappointed by the lack of promptness with receiving food. I got the Belgium waffle works and my boyfriend got the nutella crepes and deluxe tacos. While the tacos are a usual favorite the flavor was off today as well as the eggs on my order. The waffles themselves were bland and cold. When we got to the crepes the bananas were black (not brown like oxidized) and the texture was very off. Overall I was extremely dissatisfied with this usually go to spot.

Google
It's great that the food arrived quickly! While the "buttery grits" didn't quite live up to the description, tasting more watery than buttery, and my meal could have been hotter, the restaurant does boast a pleasant atmosphere. Personally, I prefer having wrapped silverware already at the table upon being seated. The service model here is a bit different from traditional breakfast spots, requiring customers to order at the front and prepare their own fountain drinks, rather than having a server take orders at the table. While the menu is clear, having server recommendations could enhance the dining experience. Overall, the experience wasn't quite what I prefer in a restaurant setting, as it felt like I handled many of the tasks typically done by a server, aside from the final delivery of the food.

Yelp
Went to a random breakfast place near to my airbnb and just had the best tacos I've ever had and finally tried grits! Girl behind the counter was very friendly and seemed a bit amazed that a British guy would just randomly go to Texas haha

Yelp
Cute little diner--bright and fresh with lots of windows but plenty of seating deeper inside for the vampires. You seat yourself, so no waiting. Menus at the table, then head to the counter to place your order. They asked the table number and brought the food out to us. The kitchen is open to the restaurant, which is great if you're concerned about cleanliness or food allergies. You can see it all. They have lots of seating options, but if you don't get the wall with benches, it's those uncomfortable chairs (see pic). Food was good. They had beef bacon! I'd never had it , and was pleasantly surprised. The avocado toast (named Holy guacamole) was good, very flavorful, two pieces of toast, served with two eggs of your choice and bacon( pork or beef). Prices are similar to other places, but with counter service, in my opinion, I can save a little and give a little tip vs 20-25% for a server.

Yelp
First time checking out Bread and Butter, and I enjoyed it. They have a shared parking lot but big enough to handle the crowd. When you walk in, you seat yourself. If you have multiple people in your party, I would have someone save it because if you have a prime seat, it might get scooped up. Our host made folks move because they ask you for your table number so they can bring you your food. They have a pretty extensive menu food from omelets to sandwiches. I chose the salmon Benedict and a pancake, hot tea, and my husband got the meat omelet and biscuits, and gravy. The portions are very nice sized for what you pay and the food tastes good too. I will definitely be back, and I love how convenient the location is. If you are close to downtown Crowley or Burleson, this is a great place to try out for breakfast, brunch, or lunch. They are open at 7:30am and close at 3.

Yelp
Very delicious food and great customer service. The inside is aesthetically pleasing, I love the decor.

Yelp
I got the 2 of a kind and got my little girl the grilled cheese. The food was bland and really didn't stand out to me in any way. It was nice that you get unlimited bread and butter here, but it was just sandwich bread that you get at any regular store. I also tipped but i shouldn't have since you don't get a server, and you need to get your own utensils/condiments from a corner area. I would have rather chosen to go to Waffle House, but this place is cleaner, and the service was fast.

Yelp
The food and coffee were amazing. The workers were all very helpful, and the owners are super sweet. It was my very first time here but it won't be my last. One thing to take note of is that the portions are pretty big so if you have a small appetite you might consider splitting a dish. Also please note that if you are going to leave a tip to the staff, please do so in cash via the tip jar by the register- as this goes directly to the employees.

Yelp
This place was just ok. My meal was ok. My service was ok. The environment was ok. It is a serve yourself place, so you grab your things and sit down. My issue was that my food was blahh... my fries were soft and not seasoned which they looked like they would be. My sandwich was small, but the chicken was juicy I must say ! My friend enjoyed her chicken and waffles. I wouldn't suggest this place, but I also wouldn't deter anyone from trying it out!

Yelp
First time at Bread & Butter. We arrived just after opening so there was one other table occupied. We were greeted with a welcome and a smile, very friendly. You seat yourself to look over the menu and then order at the register. I will say the chairs are uncomfortable for those with a little more "back". They do have complementary coffee and toast while you wait for your meal. We ordered the chicken and waffles, yum! The waffle was perfect, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The chicken is battered with a spicy (not too spicy) batter. Also good. It came out very hot and delicious. Enjoyed our breakfast!

Yelp
What a hidden gem! The food was amazing! A little different from your usual sit down restaurant where you have a server, but overall the ease of ordering and quick food delivery made for a very pleasant experience! I look forward to going back.

Yelp
Good little breakfast place, only complaint is the bacon was too soft. Will come back and try lunch.

Yelp
We decided to try this place out and I have to say I was not impressed at all. There wasn't no flavor to anything. It was very plain diner food. I would have rather gone to a chain pancake house than here. It's super cute but no shades so you roast in the sun inside. I won't waste my time coming back here.
google avatar

Yelp
Tried this place from a friend's recommendation and glad I did. The whole interior is cute, trendy and welcoming. The staff were all very friendly. We had a short wait which was expected, and gave us time to watch how people were reacting to the food and how on the spot the staff were. The caramel macchiato could seriously give Starbucks a run for their money. I was having a hard time deciding on what to order, but landed on the Spanish omelet which was so delicious. I also got a side of grits which were definitely not instant, but were a little bland for my taste. Still good though. My brother got the steak and eggs which he loved. He ate all the steak before I got to steal a bite, but I did try the sausage he ordered. One of the best non-pork sausages I've had. We're definitely coming back cause I gotta try the corned beef hash. The parking lot is small so be prepared for that.

Yelp
This place I kept seeing driving to the gym so one morning me and my wife decided to stop in and man I'm so glad we di. The ambiance once you step inside is so cool. Gives off a modern diner type of feel. The service was A1 from start to finish. Explained to us how the coffee works in regards to serving yourself. Sat down immediately in spite of it being kind of packed and our waitress helped us make informed choices due to her expertise on the menu. Now the food was everything! They are hands down the fluffiest and best eggs I've ever had. They were so moist and flavorful with every bite that paired so well with my corn beef hash. The pancakes were fluffy and delightful as well. Freshly squeezed orange juice with complimentary coffee topped off my meal. Definitely will be back soon, those eggs are everything you could ever want.

Yelp
Today, I went here with my family and it was super peaceful, not crowded, and the food there was extraordinary! Ordering is super easy, you just find a table, look at the menu, and tell the worker behind the table what you want. It didn't take very long like most places and they play music that is super calming! it isn't really crazy, crowded, and loud like most places nowadays. I defiantly recommend going here if your looking for a place that isn't terribly loud and crowded! I also recommend their Nutella crepes!
google avatar

Tammy R.

Yelp
The staff were attentive and helpful, and the restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere with excellent food. However, I would have preferred table service rather than having to get up to collect my orders. Overall, it was a positive experience.

Trevin T.

Yelp
Ordered food for pick up directly through their website. Went to their drive through window which took someone over 15 minutes to come to even though I tried calling them 5 separate times and there was only one table of 2 customers there. When I got home, half the food was missing and the other incorrect. When I tried calling them to get it corrected, I called over 15 times and no answer.

Michelle B.

Yelp
Family friendly atmosphere and delicious breakfast fare for a decent price! Hospitable staff were friendly and polite, quick seating!

Brian T.

Yelp
Great little place right down the road from me. My friend and I gave this place a try and it was really great! She got the eggs Benedict with the avocado on a croissant and I got the salmon Benedict on an English muffin. We were able to give each other half. They were both delicious. I'm sure we'll be going back.. being that it was our first time we didn't know that you ordered up at the Counter and then they would bring it to you. The people that sat at the table next to us we told him look at the menu and then go up and order. It's our first time too, so they laughed. We had a good time.

Yelp
Amazing brunch spot with family! Also check out the store next door a lot of well made furniture.

Yelp
It's been quite a while since my last unpleasant experience with this establishment but I decided to try again.. I had the breakfast wrap and it was delicious to say the least. Service was amazing, tables were clean and the atmosphere was very relaxing. Will definitely be my new spot to bring my laptop, have coffee and get some work done.
google avatar

Yelp
I wanted breakfast and decided to stop by here. The food is good and quickly made. The service is great here. It's open seating and you order and pay at the register. I ordered the big frenchie and chicken and waffles. The prices are great as well. The decor is really cute, nice ambiance.

Yelp
Beautiful location. French toast was yummy & light with fresh fruit too! Biscuits & gravy are a must have. Nice smoked bacon too. Staff is very attentive & friendly. Great place for breakfast.

Yelp
This place is one that we'll be coming back to again and again. They focus on breakfast & brunch, but there's more on the menu. We split a Belgian Waffle Works for lunch, and it was the perfect amount of food for two. The waffles was fantastic! Crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside with a hint of vanilla flavoring. The eggs were normal scrambled eggs and the bacon was just right. The restaurant looks newer inside and was very clean. The workers were very nice and greeted us when we arrived. It's self seating and order at the counter, but they bring the food to you. The decor was fun to look at and added to the casual atmosphere. All told, Bread and Butter is a high quality restaurant at affordable prices. Stop by for a bite!

Yelp
Came here for a lunch with my coworkers and it is a really nice spot. The decor and ambience is lovely and the service and wait staff were very friendly and nice. The menu was vast and everything sounded delicious, a friend had the chicken and waffles which looked amazing and the rest of us had sandwiches. Everyone enjoyed there meal and I would definitely return for another lunch here one day.

Yelp
Walking up to the restaurant, the hostess greeted us with a warm smile and held the door open for us and proceeded to direct us to our table. The environment was beautiful with a bold mural with a niece wood finish with plants hanging on the walls and a nice greenery finish on the inside of the windows as well. It was very welcoming and the staff was helpful as well. The food was absolutely amazing. The Hello Keto Omelette had avocados, dark greens, beef bacon, and other veggies and tasted amazing. My kids had the fruit pancakes and loved them. Very light and fluffy they said. Highly recommend this place. So glad to see something this great for brunch in Crowley. Will definitely be back. Keep up the great work.

Yelp
The chicken & waffles is delicious!! Grammy loved the Holy Guacamole toast! Trey our server was so attentive, courteous & kind!! The entire staff is friendly!!!! I love the décor & atmosphere!! Especially the teal colored ceilings I will definitely be back to try another dish!

Yelp
Mediocre food fine place and fine staff just nothing special would probably go here again since it's close to the house but a lot of better options
google avatar

Kimberly M.

Yelp
Super cute little restaurant. Looked like everything was made to order. Comfortable to hang out too!!

Nancy J.

Yelp
Food excellent. Would give 5 stars but music much too loud (would not be able to take my friend who have hearing aids there and there are a LOT of people with them) on the Sunday afternoon we visited and the chairs were very uncomfortable.
google avatar

Balnca L.

Yelp
As you walk in the staff is very friendly, she asked if we have ever been to the restaurant, she continues to explain you can sit where you want and on the tables they all have the menu, you order the meal at the counter. They have a bread and drink bar (fountain drink and coffee) all you can drink and eat that comes with the meal, don't have to pay extra. You toast your own bread and serve your own drink. They had plenty of different hot sauce to choose. I had the Spanish omelette because of other reviews, it didn't disappoint. If you are in the area, give this place a try.
google avatar

Erin S.

Yelp
So cute, so comfortable and the perfect place to grab breakfast. One thing that really impressed me was how quickly our delicious and hot food came out! I can't stand it when my food is cold and I had to wait to eat this because it was so freshly made. We had the breakfast wrap, Belgium waffle and guac Benny and all three get 5 stars. Seriously will be back. Great for families too. Special shoutout to Treye! It seemed everyone who worked there was checking in on us, making sure we had everything we need. You wouldn't expect to have great service at a place where you order at the counter, but restaurant will rival any other brunch spot when it comes to their friendly staff and service.
google avatar

Ellie F.

Yelp
For a long time we have been wanting to try this place but we are usually in Crowley in the evening. Our food was amazing & staff was super nice. The inside & even outside is are great. We will be back for sure.
google avatar

Yelp
So freaking good! And fast. Kids and I were in and out and stuffed! Also super cute decor and clean bathrooms. Excellent all around. Honestly I wish my stomach was bigger now.
google avatar

Pam A.

Yelp
Good Food! my only wish is that there was gluten free options in bread items, toast, pancake or waffle
google avatar

Iliana E.

Yelp
Husband and I love this place so much! Free coffee, free toast, and the best service! We love to get the omelettes. We love the atmosphere/ambiance and service of this place we always enjoy our food and time here at Bread & Butter.
google avatar

Amy G.

Yelp
Super cute and trendy place to eat! The food was fresh and cooked perfectly. It was brought out quickly. I would definitely hear here again!
google avatar

Greg P.

Yelp
I ordered the Hen House special with bacon. The bacon is inedible as it's very salty and chewy. The fried chicken is very salty. The gravy is from a can. I only enjoyed the biscuits and eggs. The picture is misleading as you can't see how salty. Very disappointing for a total of $17.63 including tip.

George F.

Yelp
Pros: Quick service Friendly staff Large food portions Nice ambiance Cons: I got the French toast and breakfast tacos. The French toast lacked flavor. It tasted like I was eating mostly syrup bread. The eggs were well cooked and fluffy. They put about 3 eggs in each taco, they were plenty full You do get your own drinks and they have a bread station set up which didn't make sense to me bc almost all of their meals include a bread type food. Fruit would be much better.
google avatar

Moira S.

Yelp
I was going to give it 4 stars but the service in the end was amazing so I'm giving it a 5. This restaurant is a super cute place to go for breakfast brunch or lunch! I already started eating it but the turkey croissant was good, my boyfriend enjoyed his omelet. And the Nutella crepe was delicious!! However, we were already almost done with our food and had yet to receive our drinks. When my boyfriend let the waitress know she was very apologetic and made our drinks immediately. Then with out us even asking she refunded us the money for the drinks!!! I was not expecting this at all. Amazing customer service. I would definitely come back here if I lived in the area.
google avatar

Amanda Y.

Yelp
My husband and I went to have lunch at this place that I was excited about trying! When I got there first the girl at the front was very nice and explained the process on ordering. There is complementary toast and coffee, which I think was great. We looked at the menu and for lunch you are very limited on what to eat. This place is definitely a breakfast place. My husband got the Royal Rueben and I got the Chicken Avocado Sandwich. Both of the sandwiches come with fries which were amazing. Now here are the faults... my chicken sandwich had no flavor it was moist but no flavor at all and my husband Rueben he said was good but wish he could change the cheese to Swiss. Now the atmosphere was okay but the seats were very uncomfortable and even though I am not on the older generation I still was u comfortable. I think we will try for breakfast and let you know what we think.

Chris H.

Yelp
We got the French toast and grits to go and when I went to tip the person at the register told me they don't get the tips so I slid her a 5 dollar bill out of my wallet. The food was mid at best the chairs in the restaurant were uncomfortable while I waited 35 min for my order because they gave it to a door dasher. Break down: edible food, bad/non existent service, uncomfortable seats and if the fact that they take their tips are true that's criminal. This was last week and I've mulled over this review a while. Sorry if it makes anybody mad but I just told my review as I experienced it
google avatar

Carol C.

Yelp
Good service, relaxing environment, great coffee and good food!
google avatar

Emma G.

Yelp
such a cute family owned business. they were super friendly and sweet when accommodating our big group. i got the eggs benedict with a side a fruit and guacamole, and it was the best i've ever had!
google avatar

Katie C.

Yelp
We moved to the area over the summer and have been here twice. We went twice in one weekend, the first time it was phenomenal everything was super flavorful. The next time we went it was bland. My husband and I both had the hen house both times and the first time the chicken and gravy was super flavorful and delicious and the next time it was seriously lacking. I don't know if it was two different cooks or if they ran out of something but it was off. I absolutely love that they serve beef bacon, the serve yourself toast station is pretty cool too. I wish they had more options there than just white bread.
google avatar

Jacqueline H.

Yelp
Wasn't crazy about the atmosphere. It was so loud I couldn't hear the lady taking my order. The eggs Benedict was just ok. It's turkey instead of ham and had tomato on it. My potatoes came out cold AF and soggy. My husband said his pancakes were good but nothing special.
google avatar

Abby W.

Yelp
This is a pretty good place to eat. I've liked everything I have ordered here. This time I had the Buffalo Ranch chicken sandwich. It was good! A nice kick and it came with a handful of fries. (I would have liked to have more.) My friend ordered the Cobb salad. She said it was really good. The biggest problem I have is that they close at 2:30. If we happen to go a little later and want to visit with friends we have to choose a place that stays open later.
google avatar

Kaleb J.

Yelp
Was looking for a decent brunch joint in the area with a buddy of mine. He recommended this place because he'd been before. Decided to give it a shot and was mostly pleased with the experience except for the service I ordered the chicken and waffles and a yogurt parfait. The chicken and waffles were a solid portion size and were pretty flavorful. The parfait was nice but lacked enough granola to balance out the remaining spoonfuls of yogurt in the bowl. The service was subpar. We were asked to leave reviews by two different servers, all while they were mixing up orders when bringing food to the table. They even gave me the Caramel Macchiato (which was delicious) I ordered AFTER I received my food. In summation: The food's decent (try it seriously) but the service makes you question the prices of everything. Especially when you're eating at a wobbly. table.

Yelp
Visited again today with our two kiddos and as always, they are so kind and accommodating. There is a really modern, homey feeling once you get settled in. The high chairs are great- equivalent to the IKEA high chairs (they might be- I didn't check!) so they are slim and low profile for the setting. My youngest put its stability and durability to the test- imagine a raccoon that hasn't scored any trash in a few days strapped into a high chair and admirably, yet unsuccessfully, grasping for bits of blueberry pancake or rogue arugula leaves. Eyeing the dull cutlery but accepting its fate: no bobbing or leaning, a lot of freedom to turn and grab but enough restraint to keep them from burning the place down. The staff is friendly as always. So accommodating for our chaotic little bunch, as well. They saw me struggling and swooped by to grab spare weapons...I mean empty plates and silverware....and stopped by frequently to make sure we were enjoying our brunch (or maybe just monitoring the chaos), and we definitely were! The food is always fresh and yummy. The blueberry pancakes were a hit with the toddler and our little babe loved the eggs + fruit and anything else she was able to squirrel when we turned away. We will keep visiting this amazing little spot and hopefully watch them continue to thrive!
