"Maybe best known for its sticky buns, sold by the half dozen, and its cinnamon buns topped with a halo of cream cheese frosting, Bread & Cheese Cupboard is great for picking up breakfast treats on a summer morning. The Stone Harbor staple is also an essential stop for feeding a packed beach house full of guests, with a huge selection of sweet and savory breakfast options (crumb buns, fruit-filled Danish, ham and cheese croissants, quiche), house-baked loaves (get the pepperoni bread), and provisions like cheese spreads, charcuterie, and olives—all of which make lunch and dinner prep a breeze." - regan stephens, sydney mcelwee, candis mclean

Google
The best bakery on the island. Great selection of croissants - sweet and savory, donuts, coffee cake and sticky buns, the later sold as 6 or 12. They also have coffee and mugs. They do run out of stuff later in the morning. Cash only and bring a bag or they will sell you one for $2 - NJ bag law. The friendliest people work there.

Google
Absolutely the worst sticky bun I have ever eaten down the shore. Only wanted 3, they make you buy 6. There first thing on a Sunday morning and when I got them back to my house they were completely stale. Obviously been sitting around for couple of days, and even after microwaving them to soften them up, the sticky buns completely lacked any flavor. Go elsewhere for pastry this place is just going through the motions and taking your cash.

Google
Best cinnamon rolls I've ever had. My husband loves to walk the kids down in the morning before the rest of the family gets up. A must visit if you're in the area.

Where do I begin about my favorite hidden gem of Stone Harbor. I must highlight how friendly and efficient the staff members are. They have always served me quickly and as much love as I give this place they return it to me. I’ve had a variety of baked goods, almost all of them because I was determined to eat through the menu of sweet delicious pastries. If you’re going to stop by I must recommend the Sticky Cinnamon Buns with the purchase of cream cheese icing on the side. If you love ooey-gooey cinnamon warm goodness slathered in cream cheese icing (or however much you want to add) these are a must. You can only purchase this variety in sixes so have some friends and family to share (or save them for yourself, they reheat beautifully). There is one menu item that exists that I believe is second to none. I love breakfast and this particular sandwich has rocked my world- any flavor bagel with Brie Cheese and Homemade STRAWBERY BALSAMIC JAM. Now I get this sandwich with an everything bagel, but all the bagels are delicious so you cannot go wrong. They generously slather the most delicious strawberry balsamic jam on both halves of the bagel. It is the best jam I have ever tasted. I wish I could describe just how incredible it tastes, but the only way to find out is to try it. It does have pieces of muddled strawberries throughout, which elevates the texture on your pallet. After the jam, they place hunks of brie cheese. Wow is it amazing! Brie cheese pairs amazingly with fruit and this just elevates that simple pairing into an everyday breakfast sandwich that is worth stopping for. I have only good things to say about it and I have shamelessly eaten it almost weekly since the summer began. So good! Also, it’s only going to cost you around 5 dollars! Most affordable prices to keep me going back for more!

Google
The sticky buns and the service are great; however, they only sell them in half dozens. They will not sell them in lesser quantities. Also, they do not sell any with raisins and without nuts.

Google
Have been coming here for years now. Excellent service and excellent food. The place is always crowded because of how popular it is. I love the breakfast sandwich rolls, and the cinnamon rolls are fantastic.

Google
Best kaiser roll my family and I ever ate!!

Yelp
8/13/24 Wowza!!!! I ordered the garlic Rosemary bread and it was delicious as was the splendid pepperoni roll. I also got the delicious cream cheese cinnamon buns. For 6 rolls it was 16$. They were worth every penny! The generosity of that to die for cream cheese icing was 5 stars! I like this store a lot. Actual bakeries seem to have fallen by the wayside-so I'm grateful that bread n cheese still remains. Cash only.

Lou C.

Yelp
Get there early, as most of the yummy pastries are gone early in the day! Great selection of danishes, croissants, breads, and other bakery items, along with an excellent selection of cheeses and gift items. Staff is super friendly and helpful!

Anne Marie B.

Yelp
The cinnamon buns used to be the VERY best along with the danish, bread and pepperoni rolls. I think the place changed hands in the last 6-8 years and it's just not the same as it was for years.

MF M.

Yelp
Excellent! We visit every year. Very friendly. Quality baked goods. They do not disappoint!

Bill B.

Yelp
Personally I think this place is overrated and overpriced. I understand it's a shore staple but the cost of the buns be it sticky or crumb is a bit crazy. Especially considering they are hit or miss on the quality. They can be extremely dry and almost inedible. Staff can be less than helpful and rude in peak season. Off season they are extremely nice. At least in my experience.

Christine T.

Yelp
Favorite favorite favorite place on 7 mile. Always the first place to go to stock up on goodies. Carrie and her team are fantastic!!

Sandy H.

Yelp
Really good variety of pastries to start your day. Donuts to cinnamon buns to crumb cake. Great place to grab some along with a coffee

Christine S.

Yelp
Well I had been following on Instagram for months prior to our vacation. Decided to try this morning. Huge...like the pending fireworks display...huge disappointment. The service was less than cheerful. The cinnamon rolls were not good. The pepperoni and cheese roll could not have been baked today as claimed. I'm glad other people love the place however I won't be returning. An expensive lesson learned. In addition I placed a comment on their Instagram which they quickly deleted. I then noticed very few of their instagram posts have comments. My guess is they delete any comments they feel are negative...okay...however their posts also lack positive reviews.

Caroline M.

Yelp
I think that this is a staple Stone Harbor spot! We love to go for breakfast- the muffins, crumb buns and donuts are great. Delicious pepperoni bread as well.

Lesleigh D.

Yelp
Best bakery items by far!!! So yummy remember to bring your cash to stock up on everything for your trip. Sticky buns are my favorite

Eileen H.

Yelp
Cash only. They don't even take Venmo. It's a giant F you to anyone under the age of 40. Even homeless people take Venmo FFS. Seems they only want older customers.

Anna K.

Yelp
Been here a few times over the years and I probably won't go back again. My thoughts on last Saturday's stop: Rude service. The donut wasn't that great and there's plenty of breakfast competition. Had to serve the coffee to myself in a hectic, cramped space. STILL cash only. There's too many nicer places in Stone Harbor and the surrounding areas to bother with this one anymore.

Jacqueline H.

Yelp
Cash only unfortunately and they close at 5 pm. The place is tiny and it's hard for people to come in and out and the line can get disorganized when it's crowded. My mom and I had a cinnamon bun (they are called piggy buns there). They are a decent size and had a nice swirl of cream cheese frosting. They were delicious but I wish the cinnamon swirl was more prominent in the bun as it tasted like I was eating dough with icing on top. I have not tried their donuts but they look pretty good as well. A must try here is the pepperoni roll - it's to die for.

Liz B.

Yelp
I tried the quiche for the first time and it was incredible!! It was moist and melted in your mouth. Had the quiche lorraine and now i want to try every flavor!

Ray T.

Yelp
After cycling down from ocean city, I figured there would be that place where the 8 am earlybirds would go for the morning coffee and donut. You know that place at the beach...a few bikes out front, and maybe a line. I figured that place would be on stone harbors main street, and sure enough, it was. I can't vouch as a regular patron, but as a hungry cyclist, it was perfect. A scone and coffee were in the three dollar range; however, the display case was a dangerous arrangement of pastry, sticky buns, donuts, and the like that could seriously tempt my tummy with the taste of caloric honey. It all looked really good...the kind of place that you don't want situated right next door to your house. Coffee was solid, but scone was a little more crunchy than I prefer. Apparently, the seagulls disagree, as one attacked my scone and tried to pull it from my hand. Dirty airborne rat. Anyway, it was the perfect halfway stop. Seagulls excluded. Next time I'm coming with pepto-laced scones for them.

Ryan R.

Yelp
Try the Pepperoni Bread Loved the pepperoni bread. Ordered a whole loaf with the owner of the store and picked it up on my way out of town. She said you can freeze it and reheat later. Solid find for freshly baked goods in town!

Ian C.

Yelp
Been coming to this place for 4 years now. Was always a little turned off by the service, cash only, and high prices on cheese but where else can you buy some good fromage on the island? Went down labor day weekend for a few things before setting up on the beach for the day and the customer service was rude and rotten enough to keep me away for good. I've got thick skin and will frequent some places despite continued bad service but this place plain and simple does not have the goods necessary to justify ignoring the absolutely rotten ladies working behind that counter. I hope a new shop opens in town and cripples this place to be honest. It is 2015, time to get with it. I'm all about preserving classic establishments with a deserving product and hard working-hospitable staff, but this place certainly is not that. This place would not survive one summer season at most other beach towns in the area.

Erika H.

Yelp
Didn't come in for bread and cheese, but sticky buns, donuts, cookies, and coffee. All of them are superb! It may have been the most fresh soft delicious donut I have ever had! Highly recommend!

Liz C.

Yelp
Food good. Customer for yrs but finally fed up. Its 2015 and people dont carry piles of cash. Get w the times and take cards. We wld spend a LOT more. And there was an plder woman at the register who was SO rude. Wouldnt even point us to an ATM and when we came back and mentioned where the closest one was--so other customers arent inconveninced, she said "yeah I know ." Witch. Shame. Fire her and get w the times. Customer service shld be a top prioirity.

Janet S.

Yelp
You must get the PEPPERONI BREAD! Please. You'll thank me... If you're watching your beach figure this is not exactly the best place to go. If you want delicious, fresh, unforgettable baked goodies, it ABSOLUTELY is. Perhaps it's due to regular consumption of these treats each and every trip to Stone Harbor for 10 years+: Bread and Cheese Cupboard is a MUST! Warm trays of plain, raisin, or nutty sticky buns are perfect for breakfast as are decadent strawberry & cheese, blueberry & cheese, and chocolate croissants. Pepperoni bread, a baguette stuffed with pepperoni and cheese, is a perfect afternoon snack and it is just greasy enough that it stays moist and delish until the next day. Stop in here for coffee, cheese dips, cakes, or glorious novelty coffee mugs. DO IT. I'm serious, look how many words are in CAPS.

Crissy H.

Yelp
It's hard to walk out of here without ordering one of everything they have to offer. Everything looks and smells amazing - especially the sticky buns, donuts, and crumb cake. Since my eyes are much bigger than every part of my body, I got a half dozen sticky buns and half dozen cinnamon crumb cakes (for a group of 5 mind you). Everything tasted as good as it smelled. The sticky buns are amazingly sweet, sticky and delicious. It took me all I had not to eat the whole tray. The cinnamon crumb cakes were also really good. Moist and very flavorful. Next time I am going to try the donuts that look out of this world!

Jeffrey S.

Yelp
Got a chocolate croissant and a loaf of bread. Both were excellent. Cash only does hinder some purchases but for what the companies charge you can't blame the retailer. Hit the Mac machine before you go out there are plenty of good places that you'll want to try that don't take plastic.

Janis W.

Yelp
Stopped here for breakfast. The breakfast treats are to die for - super yummy and fresh baked. Sticky buns with or without nuts come only in orders of 6, if you want smaller quantities you have to make other choices (like cheese or chocolate croissants, crumb topped sticky buns, etc.). Oh, and cash only so be prepared!

Leah S.

Yelp
I basically just go in here for the smell. The pepperoni bread was pretty good. More like a croissant or danish dough than a baguette. Could have had a little more cheese and pepperoni, for the price. I took it home, split it and sandwiched an overeasy egg in there for a fantastic breakfast. The cheeses are pricey but it's nice to know you can get them right here in town. Some cute gifty items in the store as well. I guess because it's a shore business they don't have to care about customer service too much, but it's still pretty annoying that when I asked the girl behind the counter if they had ANYthing bread-wise that didn't contain dairy and she said she would ask... she went into the back, came back immediately and said "sorry, no." It may be true, but I find it hard to believe and figure the baker/manager just didn't feel like taking that extra step to think about it and give me a real answer.

Danielle B.

Yelp
Just by walking by you get the aroma of freshly baked cinnamon buns! I love coming here for the chocolate covered donuts and coffee cake!! If you come in the morning most of the pastries are warm to touch! I always look forward to stopping here each visit down the shore! One tip skip the coffee here.

David C.

Yelp
Hands down the best sticky bun, I've ever had. Don't settle for those dried out pastries that sit all day long. These sticky buns are moist and soft with the perfect level of sweetness. I also tried the "muddy pig" donut, and it was amazing. A soft donut covered with milk chocolate, chopped bacon, and a white chocolate drizzle. The house blend coffee was good too.

Cat P.

Yelp
As a former local, I can tell you Bread and Cheese Cupboard has been a shore staple for years. And the sticky buns make it smell absolutely heavenly in here! I sadly have food allergies now, though, so I can no longer enjoy their cheeses or baked goods. I highly recommend them if you can eat dairy :) Cash only.

John D.

Yelp
The wife took our son for a walk this a.m. and came back with a box of goodness. 6 sticky buns and 6 crumb buns. The stickys were great the crumbs were ok, I prefer a gooey sticky bun. Place is a little overpriced, but you are at the shore. Their pepperoni bread is AWESOME.... Check the "Day Old" basket for 1/2 priced items...

L M.

Yelp
If you're used to Dunkin' Donuts or something like that, then I suppose you might like this place. But if you're a foodie like me, skip it. The doughnuts are stale and overly sweet. The selection is sparse (what bakery that sells doughnuts doesn't have glazed???). The coffee is weak. Like most places down the shore, though, they have a captive audience, so they'll stay in business forever.

Josh G.

Yelp
Pepperoni roll and house blend coffee = heaven. This place has been around Stone Harbor for so many years for a reason. It truly is a top-notch bakery.

Victor C.

Yelp
This place is awesome. My family comes down to stone harbor every year. Just before we leave, we stop here. By far the best thing they have( other than their pastries) is their pepperoni bread. Ohohoh my mouth just waters whenever I think if it. Highly recommended to go and awesome service

Alexandra L.

Yelp
The service wasn't very friendly. The sticky buns and crumb cake were dry and boring. I was so disappointed because they were still warm and smelled so good! I won't bother to try any other food from here because of our terrible breakfast experience. It's hard to make me not want to eat a sticky bun- it has to be pretty awful.

Dave L.

Yelp
This place is overrated. Their prices and customer service are the worst. Ten bucks for 6 sticky buns? Last year they had a policy to only sell them in sixes so you could not purchase one or two. I was told if I did not like their selling terms then they did not need my business. A competing bakery with fair pricing and customer service would be bad news for this shop!

Rick B.

Yelp
I love this place! We go every year we are down here for the sticky buns, but the breads and crumb buns are great too! Get here early to beat the lines, but even if there is a line it moves quickly. Excellent quality baked goods. Yet another shore tradition.

Jenn G.

Yelp
The sticky buns are fantastic and HUGE. They are sweetly sticky gooey awesomeness. They get 4 stars because you can only buy 6 or more. I only wanted one sticky bun and now I'm forced to eat all 6! Goodbye diet, hello sticky goodness.

jenn r.

Yelp
WAY overpriced to get North jersey and PA yuppies to spend their money down the shore on gormet crap. Dont eat fancy overpriced food down the shore! Now go get some funnel cake and a greasy slice! Good variety but if u know cheese you know Di Bruno brothers would never sell Prima Donna for 19 bucks a pound! rediculous! you want sticky buns? For half the price drive over to Britton's on Pacific in the crest.

Bill C.

Yelp
Cinnamon buns... Yum! Pepperoni and provolone roll... Yum-yum! Enough said.

Sadie A.

Yelp
I love the crumb buns here! And they have a great selection of cheeses and savory goodies that are perfect for entertaining when you have a crowd at your beach house! Between the baked goods and the gourmet packaged goods, it's a really great store to hit when your in Stone Harbor or Avalon!

Jennifer T.

Yelp
The pepperoni bread is a real must! But my personal favorites are the ham n cheese rolls and the spinach and feta rolls. And don't forget the gooey sticky buns for morning coffee :) yumzers!

Robert C.

Yelp
Normally I would give a ringing endorsement of this place. And yes, the food is outstanding, but very pricey. That is just how the Jersey store is. However, the customer service leaves much to be desired. I don't know if it was just the summer help or a permanent employee, but I was in the other day, near the end of June, when I overheard an employee accosting an elderly woman about the cost of sticky buns. She simply remarked that 6 sticky buns were pricey, ant the employee caustically remarked 'Well you don't have to buy them!' Not the way you should treat any customer, especially during the peak months of business.

Francisca D.

Yelp
I would actually like to eat here more often but they don't take cash and they close way too early. My family and I have tried to get the sticky buns after going to the beach, when people like to walk around in the evening, but they're ALWAYS CLOSED!

Kylee D.

Yelp
This place is adorable. It's just so original. Everything looked delicious, and they had so many offerings. I got a piece of frozen chocolate covered cheesecake - ohmygoodness, it was a delicious experience, and it was under $5.00! A nice place, with decent prices. Definitely would be interested in going again and trying some of their other treats!

pam m.

Yelp
After 24 years of vacationing in Sea Isle City (about 15 mins from Stone Harbor) , my kids still have fond memories of sunday mornings spent driving to this fabulous store to pick up fresh breads. We never missed this Sunday morning splurge. This place is a Gem , always fresh, always delicious, sometimes long lines but worth the wait. Semi expensive prices but well worth the money. When will they open a store like this in Noth Jersey??? I'm game to open a shop like this!

Jack W.

Yelp
Bread and cheese is an institution on the island, a must try for those who have never been. Try everything -- the sticky buns, donuts, pepperoni bread, etc...
