Authentic flavors, but pricing and service details need refinement
Bread and Salt Bakehouse serves up genuinely delicious Middle Eastern fare—the Fatteh and pastries are flavorful and well-prepared. On my visit, the chef Wael, who typically handles these dishes, was delayed, so Fadi kindly stepped in to prepare my order. I appreciated the complimentary coffee offered to make up for the wait.
That said, there were a few service and value concerns. The small Fatteh was priced at $13.99 + tax, and a Kirkland bottled water cost $1.49 + tax—without the option of tap water. For a casual bakery-style venue, this feels excessive. The Fatteh was also topped with almonds instead of the traditional pine nuts, which wasn’t mentioned in advance. Additionally, the cutlery provided was a plastic-wrapped spoon rather than stainless steel, which detracted from the overall experience.
The staff were warm and the food quality is undeniable, but I hope the team reconsiders some of the pricing and service policies to better reflect the generous spirit of Levantine hospitality.
OLD REVIEW:
Bread and Salt Bakehouse is a true hidden levant gem! Their spinach, meat, and chicken pies (فطاير) are absolutely delicious — fresh, perfectly seasoned, and baked to golden perfection. Each bite bursts with flavor, wrapped in soft, warm dough that feels homemade with love. The quality of ingredients and care in preparation really shine through. A must-try spot for anyone craving authentic, mouthwatering pastries!
