I got waffles, and they were amazing!! The coffee was also great. I also really appreciate the utensils being wooden.

Google
I’ve been looking for a local bakery for a while now and I think I’ve found it! Everything looks and smells delicious! They have coffee (hot and iced), they have breakfast sandwiches, pastries (vegan and gluten free options), lunch sandwiches and a connected business that has burgers and fried chicken sandwiches! I got their breakfast burrito and tried it as soon as I got to the car. OMG! So delicious! I’m so thankful for Addy, she answered every question and when I saw the reward program pop up when I used my Apple Card, I was so impressed! I think it’s a new thing they recently started and it’s genius! I think I found my new favorite place 😭

Google
Good coffee, lunches made to order, service is neutral, prices are ridiculous. We had 2 *veggie* sandwiches + 2 lattes and our bill was $40. See this piece of cake? It’s $7+. It’s a SLICE of cake. No gold leafing. No free taco. Just a single slice of cake. Is the actual cake $112? Is price elasticity obsolete? Are we losing all common sense or just gouging? 🤷🏼‍♀️ I guess they have their target market and it’s not us.

Google
Old grease, tough overcooked chicken. Prices for a store front in nova, were about is expected. But that's still going to come with and expectancy of greatness. $48 for lunch... Tried Chicken and waffles, waffles were good chicken trash. Cooked easy too fast, and the grease was old, well burnt. Tried Pastrami Reuben... Way too salty, not edible. Tried the $11 chicken sandwich, chicken tough parts not edible so tough. Had peach pie. 👎🏾👎🏾 Canned peaches thrown together, made with no love. Atmosphere was nice, staff amazingly kind. It's just that in this day and age when prices go high, people want the value for the money. Cheers.

Google
Sitting here in the shop writing this review cause its just that good! Its my first time here, im supprised i havent found this place before! The tarts, danishes, and maccrons looks amazing, the vibes are on point. The chai is exceptional! I am looking. Forward to getting my food, cause i can smell it being cooked and its moth watering... Plus i just found out that their other spot BunPapa has Fried chicken sandwiches! I cant wait to be back for more!

Google
Got the breakfast sandwich, chicken salad sandwich, two lates and the mini key lime pie. Had a bit of sticker shock at the price but the quality is high. Chicken salad sandwich is super tasty. Bacon in the breakfast sandwich is thick and they’re happy to customize.

Google
delicious breakfast sandwich, one of the best in the area!! 10/10 also LOVE their house made strawberry vanilla syrup for the lattes, you can tell it’s real strawberries. Also VERY good pavlova! They have so many pastries, it’s hard to choose!

Google
Best service, amazing food! I loved my first experience at Bread and Water Company and cannot wait to check out the pentagon city location that’s closer to me. They were able to handle my large group and we ate some amazing food! Summer peach and beat salad, BACON waffles, French toast, lovely assorted sandwiches, annnd pastries! Try the flourless brownie. There is nothing in the world like it!!!

Yelp
The staff was very happy when I walked in, because it was not very busy. I came in for a pumpkin latte and left with much more! I ordered 2 plain croissants and 2 ham&cheese croissants. I also tried the GINORMOUS cinnamon bun and a choc chip cookie. The croissants were amazing! *Pro tip* ask the barista to warm up the ham and cheese so it melts in your mouth! The cinnamon bun was the driest bun I've ever tasted. It tasted like it was made 3 days prior and they were trying to get rid of it. The cookie was very good. All in all 4/5 stars because the cinnamon bun was trash.

Yelp
Today we tried much-vaunted Bread & Water, which also now houses the Brioche bun-centric Bun Papa (no thanks, I'll pass on those buns). There are a couple tables outside the entrance, but otherwise this is a strictly take-out establishment. Everything is freshly prepared. Even though the shop was busy, we got our sandwiches fairly quickly. I ordered the $4 chocolate chip cookie. Absolutely loved it, gooey with lots of chocolate chips. JP got a piece of cherry pie. He thought the filling was delicious but would have preferred that the crust was less doughy and more flaky. I also ordered the Chicken Salad sandwich ($14). I didn't like it. It's my fault that I didn't notice on the menu that the chicken salad mix contains garam masala seasoning. The garam masala seasoning, which I understand is a blend of cloves, cinnamon, cardamom, cumin, coriander, nutmeg, and mace completely overwhelmed the other flavors in the sandwich. The menu bills the sandwich as containing "big chunks of cbicken". Um, no it doesn't. The mushy chicken spread reminded me of the tuna/mayonaisse blend in a tuna fish sandwich. While I would never order this sandwich again, I did like the cucumber and bits of grape in the sandwich. The breakfast burrito was so-so. It contained hardly any kielbasa and was mostly just potato. Also, the salsa that came with the burrito was poor, containing a huge overload of cumin. Be aware and plan accordingly, napkins are not included in take-out orders.

Yelp
I very much liked the Bread and Water Company. It didn't just serve Bread and Water, however that was probably on the menu (as well as plenty of other items). I ordered a baguette, a grilled cheese sandwich, and a sweet potato pie. I obviously didnt eat the whole baguette and the whole pie, but I very much wanted to. It was great. The grilled cheese was one of the best grilled cheeses i've ever head, and obviously the pie and baguette were great. It didn't take too long for the food to be made, and it was very efficient. I very much liked this place.

Fiona B.

Yelp
Delicious breakfast sandwich. Also got a butter croissant which was yum and a piece cherry pie. Kids had a grilled cheese, which they loved. Nothing was too greasy/sugary. Outdoor seating and limited indoor seating but spacious area. Coffee also perfect. Will be back!

Mary P.

Yelp
I cannot tell you how amazing the brioche rolls & sugar cookie rocked. Staff always helpful & friendly

Yelp
Wall of awards has gone to their heads. We visited on the Saturday morning before new years. Bought three things. Breakfast burrito with bacon, apple croissant, cinnamon roll. In the burrito the potatoes were hard/uncooked. The apple croissant was a day old (at least), NOT crispy but soggy and dense/oily. The cinnamon roll is really a roll with SOME cinnamon Don't waste your money, we did. And it wasn't cheap. Ignore what is below on this review. Yelp inserted it automatically.

Yelp
Didn't try the pastries but the coffee is good. I don't. Usually drink coffee but the hubby needs to have his. Quick service order at counter. Got the lavender honey latte with oat milk. 4 stars. Yummy. Tastes great albeit lavender fragrance is a little muted. Hubby got mocha with extra vanilla (to make it sweeter): he said it was good - a rare one for him. They also have a variety of pastries and salads (macaroni, potato) and pickled veggies on sale. I would totally get some but they won't let me take it on plane on acct of the liquid.

Sharmane G.

Yelp
I live for their baked goods. I have tried lemon bars, chocolate cake and more recently the pistachio financier! This place also has savory stuff. And the Cali Turkey sandwich never disappoints. Also I'm a fan of Rainbow Fresh Veggie sandwich. The only thing is their consistency isn't always perfect (portions of meat/cheese/lettuce varies depending who makes the sando) but that's okay, the sandwich still tastes amazing! Service is pretty standard, I come usually later morning or lunch. They never seem overwhelmingly busy , but sometimes I wait for my meal for only 10 mins on average. I think they're quiet efficient for a small business. Casual place with no indoor seating, must take away or outdoor seating during warmer months.

Adam H.

Yelp
A cute shop with friendly staff who made sure to greet me on arrival. They have a variety of sandwiches, burgers, pastries and breads, plus grab-and-go salads, soups, sandwiches, drinks. I had the chicken salad sandwich and a chocolate chip cookie, and both were very tasty. I'm sure I'll be back another day.

Alexandra Reed C.

Yelp
This is the second time we have ordered an overpriced birthday cake (Tower Cakes / Bread and Water) and been unhappy. It looks so sloppy. Further, they don't answer their phones or check their voicemails so there is no way to speak with someone about a custom order. With so many good bakeries in Northern Virginia and DC, I would not recommend.

Jordan D.

Yelp
I eat at bread and water more often than I care to admit, but there is a reason for it; the breakfast items are extremely good and contain high quality ingredients. No matter what you order you can rest assured that it will have flavor and will be consistent with, or often better than, your last experience. What really makes bread and water special is their staff, who provides UNMATCHED customer service. Addy will always greet you with a smile and make sure you are taken care of. She will always make you feel like you are the only customer in the store. The staff at bread and water are extremely knowledgeable, well trained, and a joy to interact with PRE COFFEE. ......No one is a joy to interact with before I have coffee but they figured it out and, for that, they have earned my loyalty.

Colleen C.

Yelp
Their breakfast burrito with bacon is amazing! It's big, so you can definitely split it! Their spring pasta salad (Evelyn's recipe) is phenomenal and reminds me of my childhood!

LoriLynn R.

Yelp
It's not fast, but definitely fresh and delicious. Hubby n I don't eat a lot we eat small portions often. We ordered the Reuben (yumm) and a chili dog. They are "franks" not hot dogs. These are the real deal. Everyone is friendly and they are professional at what they do. Has the feel of an old town mom n pop place. The soups are expensive especially for the size, but apparently are made with fresh ingredients. We will return!

Yelp
SINGLE SERVING DESSERTS REVIEW: I have visited this place plenty of times and it is an exceptional bakery for single serving desserts. The cakes slices, pie slices and hand pies are always moist and large in serving size. I appreciate that there is a rotation of their sliced tower cakes. Personally I like the Oreo tower cake however I haven't seen it in almost two years and hope it can get back into rotation. My second favorite sliced tower cake is the snickerdoodle. I've heard their custom cakes are exceptional and one day I will try them. The customer service is always friendly and attentive. Overall a great experience and a go-to for dessert when I am on that side of town in Alexandria. For the size of the cake slices at this place the quality to price ratio is appropriate. There is plenty of parking here. Give them a shot.

Colton B.

Yelp
Their veggie sandwich is to die for! The breakfast burrito and cinnamon buns are amazing as well.

Carla T.

Yelp
We were just here, waited 8 mins and left. No one came out to greet us. Seems like they were trying to resolve an issue in the kitchen. Very unprofessional. First time here and won't come back.

Elisha D.

Yelp
Love this local place. The food is great (bring back the chicken teriyaki sandwich please!) and so is the staff. The lattes are my favorite. What makes them better are the ingredients. The milk (dairy and non-dairy) are all high quality. I found out in my last visit that Addy makes all the syrups in house and they rotate for the season. Everyone needs to try the Irish cream!! But they are all awesome

Ivonn M.

Yelp
BEST FOOD EVER OMGG!! The waffle fries were amazing!!! So crispy. The angry chicken burger was soo good. The customer service was amazing as well. Abby was so sweet and you can see she loves working with her coworkers and love her job. The store is very clean and very organized.

Bud W.

Yelp
Our favorite weekend spot for delicious morning treats from pastries to breakfast sandwiches to delicious lattes. And we love the staff! Addy is the best!

Liz B.

Yelp
Cute little cafe/bakery near Belle Haven Park! I went this past Saturday with a friend for lunch after walking the park. She lives near by and likes this place as they have some decent vegetarian options. They sell some pre-made soups, salads, in a refrigerated case or you can have something freshly prepared. I really enjoyed my chicken salad and freshly brewed ice tea. There's also many sweet baked goods to tempt you.

Becky F.

Yelp
Stopped by for a quick lunch after church. The store was pretty busy had about a 20 min wait after ordering. We ordered a BLT, French toast and a chicken salad sandwich. We also got some sweets and some bread. They did forget a cookie we ordered but not that big a deal. The breads were great and the sweets are good too. The chicken salad sandwich my husband liked and would order again. I honestly liked the French toast but probably would not order again. Had a burnt taste to it and for 2 slices for $11 not great of a deal. The BLT my son liked but would order it with light garlic aioli next time, it was a little over powering. Will definitely give another try maybe during the week.

Drew T.

Yelp
Bread & Water never fails to be the perfect start to my morning! Everything's always just a moment away from your order to your hands. The staff are always so personable and kind too. Addie is such a sweetheart - she never fails to correct me: "Don't have a good day. Have a GREAT day!" Love the neighborly atmosphere of this place!

Nicole F.

Yelp
Good food, I had a breakfast sandwich on a biscuit. In and outdoor seating. Friendly staff. Can't complain.

Chelly P.

Yelp
OMG ! Best and most impressive cake ever! I have been waiting for an opportunity to order a tower cake. I ordered the Peanut Butter tower cake for our Easter family brunch! It was delicious! Staff helped bring it to the car because it was so heavy. When we opened it , you can smell the PB! It tasted amazing! My cousin is a baker and she explained to me how difficult it is to make a PB cake. This was had peanut butter flavor in the cake and icing! I can't describe how good it was but hate to admit ...five days later there is a lot left over and I'm still eating it! If you want a "wow" factor for your party. This cake is pretty to look at and actually taste amazing!

Lynne S.

Yelp
I always make a stop here whenever I am close to this awesome coffee shop! I absolutely love their caramel lattes and pastries! Everything is so fresh AND, everyone who I've encountered is so friendly and professional ! Great food, service and ambiance! Many patrons enjoy the outdoor seating even during the winter months!

Lauren S.

Yelp
The food is ok at Bread & Water but we've just had a bad few experiences recently of missing menu items (not discovered until we've already left) and subpar customer service. Plus, I generally think it's pricier than it's worth. Also if you plan to get sausage on breakfast items, note that it is like a bratwurst and not a patty.

Monica K.

Yelp
We love a blueberry muffin and breakfast sandwich!! Everything is always fresh and delicious!

Cclleen M.

Yelp
Disappointing all around. The ham and cheese croissant was greasy and had a tiny amount of ham. My friend threw most of it away. The chicken salad however was very good. There is virtually nowhere to sit, and there is room to add a few cafe tables. I ordered a slice of bread to go with my chicken salad and it took 10 minutes. They called out my name but I was one of 3 people in the place. This is the former Brenner's bakery, which kept Alexandria in very good pastries for years. No comparison and won't return.

Stacy H.

Yelp
The shopping center is doing construction but Bread & Water is open. They have a big take out window which you can call ahead or order to go. I enjoyed the egg, bacon, cheese sandwich. Delicious. They have many baked goods to choose from. Really popular on the weekends.

Dan H.

Yelp
This place has gotten worse. Not only do they way over charge, the service is absolutely horrible. I'm not sure if it is because they are understaffed or just don't care. Literally waited for 5 minutes without acknowledgment. Walked next door to Starbucks was instantly served and saved money in the process. I don't get this place at all.

Lindsay D.

Yelp
This lovely bakery is located in a rather unassuming shopping plaza in Belle View, but this shop packs a punch of flavor in everything they've got. Lattes, cookies, croissants, cakes, loaves of breads, sandwiches, breakfast entrees such as french toast, and ready to take home foods (e.g. tuna salad, chicken salad, soups) and broths/stocks (i.e., chicken, beef, vegetable). They seem to have it all! I stopped in on a Sunday without ordering ahead and was able to get myself a honey cinnamon latte, ginger molasses cookie, and pastrami reuben sandwich. The latte was smooth and full of flavor, the cookie was soft and delicious, and I'm a sucker for a good reuben... and they've got one! Their bread that they served it on was crispy on the outside but the appropriate amount of soft on the inside. Better yet, they didn't skimp out on the cheese, pastrami, sauerkraut, or Russian dressing! Everything is to-go since they don't offer dine-in seating, but they do have a few tables and bat height seating outside.

Rebecca W.

Yelp
I absolutely love this local bakery! They have incredible quality food and coffee. My favorites include their chai latte and tuna sandwich. I highly recommend checking them out for breakfast or lunch or anytime in between! Their staff is very kind and knowledgeable. Addy always greets me with a big smile and makes me so happy to be here! Plus they play excellent music while you wait!

Courtney M.

Yelp
My new favorite stop for work! First off as soon as I stepped in the music vibe hit me :) the service was speedy and the coffee hot and fresh! The breakfast burrito I had was huge and filling ( but could use crispier bacon and potatoes) but I recommend the oatmeal apricot cookies! I was given one on the house by a super sweet employee and it truly brought me right back the next morning!

R F.

Yelp
Tay's service was excellent. Always happy to be at Bread and Water and to also check out seasonal favorites!

Rhodie H.

Yelp
Wonderful bread, lemon bars and brownies! I'm sure the other goodies are just as delicious. Great sandwiches. A happy place even when busy. The 2 super efficient women at the counter are friendly and welcoming.

Hailee G.

Yelp
Bread and Water is my morning (let's be real, all day) go to. You can't go wrong with any of the breakfast menu items but if you aren't feeling up for a full me, their chocolate croissant (heated up of course) is delicious. The staff make an effort to learn your name and make you feel like a valued customer. And if you order the same drink just often enough, they'll have it ready and waiting for you. Special shout out to Tay for being the first team member to remember me (and more importantly my drink order) and to Addy for crafting the most amazing drink syrups.

Greyson N.

Yelp
Very good helping of French toast and wonderful flavor. Different than just a simple egg dip and way more rich and decadents. The bacon was very thick and crispy, perfect along with the French toast. The carrot cake was wonderful and the flavor of the chocolate was good even though the cake part was a tiny bit dry. Would return to try as a sit down instead of a take out in the future

Colleen K.

Yelp
Great place for food and sweets and especially the hot chocolate, chocolate cake, and cherry topped cheesecake. Love the staff, Addy, Tayana, and David. i am regular customer for several years and strongly recommend Bread and Water, Alexandria, VA. The restaurant industry is a tough one and to be always greeted with a smile and hello no matter how hard their day is speaks volumes for the staff and management. Thank you so much for bring a smile to my face....and belly! - Colleen and Gamble. PS - Gamble regularly tries to steal my purchases because he loves them, too! Clearly a dog with great taste! :)

William M.

Yelp
Bread & Water is how I start my day! Great espresso, excellent croissants and many hearty breakfast options. What ultimately brings me back are the awesome people, particularly Addy, who keeps everything going! While managing everyone, Addy pulls espresso, steps in as chef, bakes, cooks, and chats. And a huge thank you to owner, Markos Panas, for creating Bread & Water/Bun Papa; a warm, inviting coffe shop/cafe/bakery/restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner!

Danielle O.

Yelp
New to the area. Visiting a friend and ordered UberEats for breakfast on my birthday. Chorizo breakfast burrito was warm upon delivery. Thick. Filled with ingredients (onions peppers eggs potato & chorizo meat) & hearty cut into two halves. Salsa has NO flavor. Burrito has some flavor. Please season more than the meat. Kind of expensive after fees $14+ subtotal, taxes $17 + tip over $21 for one breakfast burrito. I'll have to go inside of the business and order something else. It's worth a 2nd try!

Will T.

Yelp
Very nice bakery in South Alexandria. I stopped in for a ham and cheese croissant and small OJ to go. The croissant was so good that I stopped there again the next day for a repeat. Sadly, they were sold out the second time around. My only complaint was that they did not offer to toast my croissant, they just put it in the bag. If you prefer your croissant toasted, you might have to remind them. Staff was super friendly during both of my visits.

Jesse M.

Yelp
Cordial and pleasant staff, good coffee, and exceptional pastries & breakfast sandwiches; the breakfast-wich hit the spot with the garlic aioli. They were out of their famous almond croissant by the time we got there around, which was around 10:20am. There was a rude and obnoxious customer who came in while we were there, but the staff handled the situation calmly and the person eventually left, leaving the items that she pulled out of the fridge on the counter with little regard for their preservation. We didn't catch this individual's name, but I empathize with anyone who is forced to deal with her.

Yelp
So disappointed Went for lunch today with a friend for Reubens and pastries. The Reubens were great but the banana bread snd pecan roll was old. Both were discarded in trash. Was so looking forward to the banana bread. Not to mention they both cost 7 bucks each. Had brag to my friend about how great the pastries were and ended up apologizing. So just wanted to post an update on a review. After receiving a few bakery items that were not up to standards I posted a review letting the business know. Not only did I receive a call back from the owner but he made every effort to make it right. I am pleased and happy to post that this company really appreciates their customers. Will definitely be back.

Carlos S.

Yelp
Good place for breakfast. Your food is made to order and it tastes great. We ordered the Breakfastwhich (bacon, egg, cheese grilled sandwich) with a delicious side salad - see photo. They also have all sorts of breads, pastries, waffles, coffees, teas, etc. It's not a large place but it has a good, almost hipster, vibe to it. The food was delicious and it's a place we'd recommend and would return to. Prices and service were adequate.

William T.

Yelp
Unfortunately did not have a great experience with their biscuit breakfast sandwiches. The biscuits for both were very dry and crumbly, falling apart in your hands just trying to pick them up. Ended up just eating pieces of the broken-up sandwich with our fingers as holding the sandwiches soon became impossible. It maybe would have been a bit better with more sauce but the biscuits were really just not good. Ordered a bacon egg & cheese and a sausage egg & cheese sandwich. Both had a disappointing meat to biscuit ratio with just a single sausage link in one (far too difficult to bite into without again, destroying the whole sandwich) and an odd-looking chewy piece of bacon resembling the sensation of chewing on a piece of gum. Also, what was supposed to be a quick stop for breakfast, despite being the only ones at the window by 8am, turned into more of a 30min wait for two breakfast sandwiches but I was in no rush. Went out of our way headed into DC considering the positive reviews from this restaurant but honestly regretted it. I'm sure their other menu options are better but I wouldn't go too far out of your way to get breakfast here.

Elise H.

Yelp
I've only tried their pastries here. I tried the pistachio orange blossom tart, pumpkin loaf cake and their scone. I loved the tart and pumpkin loaf cake. Scone was good but not my favorite. Cute and clean place with lots of delicious looking treats. A bit on the pricier side but worth splurging for.

Eric H.

Yelp
We purchased the Pastrami Ruben and we were very disappointed. The menu stated 1/2 pound of pastrami which was not on my sandwich, maybe 1/4 pound. The sandwich came with sauerkraut, cheese, and a sauce on black bread. The sandwich was very salty and the bread was so hard that it ripped the top of my mouth. The salt overpowered the pastrami, so you really didn't taste the meat. The sandwich was definitely not worth $20; so I would not recommend the pastrami however, the service was pleasant and the facility was clean. I would return to try the burgers but definitely not the pastrami.

Richard W.

Yelp
Bread & Water Company is a great place to visit, whether you are having breakfast (quiche, waffles, breakfast sandwiches) or lunch (sandwiches, salads, soup) or like me just want delicious muffins, croissants, loaves of great bread and very good coffee. Atmosphere is modern / rustic, open and airy, staffed by friendly employees, you are always greeted when walking through the door. There is seating by the window, which on nice days can be opened, tables on the inside and a couple of tables outside. Definitely a hidden gem.
