Everything about this coffee shops is absolutely amazing. From the fantastic decor to the best baked good in town. The staff here are always as friendly as can be, there is definitely a lot of options your first time so ask about stuff you'll find a new favorite I'm sure of it!

I have to say I was really disappointed in the vegan sweet potato sandwich I picked up today. It had one very thin slice of what what seemed to be uncooked sweet potato - it was very crunchy - and a few pieces of dark greens of some kind and a few red onion slices. Normally I I'm very happy to go to Bread, and do so often for coffee and bread!

Google
Arrived 1 hour after opening and wanted to get desserts for our lunch group we were entertaining. We purchased all the different kinds of cookies. It was very disappointing and embarrassing for us as they were all very stale. Sorry Bread….we will not be back.

Google
It's a great bakery but this location is not set up for eating inside. It does have some very casual spots to sit outside. Worth noting that earlier is always better... the popular things run out pre-noon and closed by 2 last time I checked.

I don’t know what happened to Bread the pastries used be so good. It seems they lost the original recipes. The blueberry danish was my favorite but it now tastes horrible and the dough has totally changed to what tastes and feels like a biscuit.

Google
Stopped twice on a recent visit to Durango. Friendly staff , quick service and a great atmosphere!

Google
Having enjoyed Bread’s products many times over the years , including their sandwiches, we did not learn until today that they make them the day before they’re sold. So, when anyone buys a sandwich, thinking they’re fresh, they’re actually a day old but they’re charged full price. It’s dishonest of Bread to not inform their customers of this and when I called them on this their response was “ that’s just the way we do it “. 👎🏻 to Bread’s lack of honesty.

Google
The Sow Your Oats cookie is so good. They will slice your loaf of choice for you. The sandwiches, Coffee, cookies, pastries, pretty much everything here is very good. Top it off with extremely pleasant employees and you have yourself an experience that's hard not to repeat daily.

Yelp
The lady who took my order wasn't the friendliest Cinnamon roll 6/10 Didn't taste fresh but I liked the croissant Texture
google avatar

Marli M.

Yelp
Honestly I was disappointed with my experience! The counter is a bit overwhelming. Lots of beautiful patties though! I got an almond crossiant and cinnamon roll. The crossiant was not great, so little almond flavor. The cinnamon roll was a very flaky and tasty treat. Biggest disappointment was that they couldn't heat my pastries, which seemed so odd to me!!

Yelp
Grab and go. Well priced bread and delicious! Very busy when I stopped by which confirmed it was going to be worth a few minutes in line. It definitely was!
google avatar

D M.

Yelp
THE BREAD IS SO GOOD!! They also have fabulous sandwiches to go, scones, muffins, croissants, cookies and more. Yum Yum, drop the mike. It gets busy and they may run out of stuff so come early. This location only has some outdoor seating. They also have a second location in downtown durango that has indoor and outdoor seating.

Yelp
The lady working hates her job, I was in such a good mood until I had to interact with this individual, foods great tho

Yelp
Stopped in for a pastry and coffee this morning and have been sour ever since. Bread has been our go-to for pastries and sandwiches for years and we have always been excited and delighted. Today our coffee was alright but our apple turnovers were subpar...think of what you get at the grocery store. They were smooshed flat and were lacking in flavor (where's the apple?). I hope our next visit isn't this disappointing and it was just an off day. Bread is usually a must when we are in town so hopefully it was just a fluke.

Yelp
Best scones in AMERICA !!! Really excellent bread as well. The only downside is the employees!! They are pretentious and rude but totally worth it hahha just get your stuff and go!!

Everett R.

Yelp
man i love this place but today just wasn't the day it seems, worker gave rude stares and acted unprofessional because i was confused about their sign size and drink size difference. i tried saying thank you and he brushed me off. quite rude, and i hope i see him again to ask him what his problem was that day. unnecessary

T R.

Yelp
So I got a croque madame, which isn't a sandwich I'm particularly fond of, but I knew this place was going to do it right, and they nailed it! The ham was clearly high quality, tender and delicate. The bread was exquisite and toasted so that it had a perfectly pleasing texture and crunch. The sweetness from the preserves was perfectly subtle; classy not overpowering. Truly one of the best breakfast sandwiches of any kind that have had! Can't wait to come back next time I'm in SW colorado
google avatar

Yelp
3.5 stars. Chocolate chip cookie was too crispy and dry for me. I like that there were lots of chocolate chips, but the crispy dry texture just wasn't for me. It's quite cheap though (coming from DC, I liked the cheap prices around here!). The salami sandwich was good and flavorful though--4 stars for that one.

Yelp
Oh my gosh! Wow! We visited "Bread' Cafe's" old town location, on 8th Avenue this morning. We wanted coffee and a little something sweet, The gentleman behind the counter was friendly and when asked, offered a brief description on all of the morning's pastries. My husband and I each ordered a "Cheese Danish," and as an afterthought he ordered an Oatmeal Date Cookie, and I an Orange Ginger Scone, to go, along with two large simply brewed coffees with generous cream, as requested. Less than $20 and Oh My Goodness, so delicious! In fact, so good that Terry went back in and ordered two more cheese danishes to take back to our self catering BnB, for another day! Definitely worth the visit. Great coffee and amazingly delicious pastries! I'd love to try their Bread sometime! Thank-you for being so very accommodating!

Cynthia H.

Yelp
After reading another review about sandwiches to go we knew we wanted to grab something. I had the time turkey sandwich and my husband had the Italian. Both were really good and hit the spot for lunch as we traveled to the Mesa Verda area for the day. We also had a ginger cookie that was fantastic.

Yelp
WE LOVE BREAD!!! This place is truly a gem and the prices are amazing for the great types of bread offered. Would definitely recommend the potato sage bread and rosemary bread, although all their breads are incredibly moist and soft, even days after buying. We frequent this place much, as whenever we are in town it is a first stop place.

Yelp
Pro Tip: I'd suggest arriving earlier in the day for the freshest items. I arrived at 2:30 - maybe it's the way they bake their cookies but my "chocolate gulch" and "sow your oats" cookies were too crispy-dry for my liking, although they had a good flavor. Also my pre-made mozzarella sandwich bread was soggy but I ate it for dinner so that's on me. They told me if you are arriving late in the day and call ahead they will make you a fresh sandwich closer to your arrival time - score! On the bright side the olive bread was 100% delicious and we enjoyed it over several meals at home. The young lady behind the counter was super friendly. They sell a special whole bean (not ground) Durango Coffee Company "bread house blend" we look forward to trying. We would give this place a second chance for sure and hope you enjoy your goodies!

Yelp
Bread is a longtime favorite from the time I lived in Durango. Now it's a must-stop whenever I'm visiting or driving through Durango. The breads, sweet treats and granola are superb. The crew is always friendly and helpful, a great benefit with so many choices!
google avatar

Angela L.

Yelp
Tried their salami sandwich, flavor is there but bread was tough, hard to bite, hard to swallow and sandwich was very greasy, not impressed Ham and cheese croissant was good, bread crispy from the parmesan Chocolate chip cookie: very thin and crispy. I prefer gooey cookie but thats a personal preference. Overall not impressed

Yelp
Been going here for 12 years and have always been quite pleased. The past year however I've been quite disappointed several times. New staff members I'm assuming. Perhaps more training is needed. Last month my turkey sandwich was made with two end pieces of bread and was literally less than half its regular size and had very little turkey. This BLT pictured was gross. I first noticed the uncooked bacon (zoom in on the tomato picture and you will see) . Then I opened the sandwich and saw that every tomato was all wilted and the core/stem hadn't been removed. Plus the bun was burnt. Seriously! Come on! Still always very please with the pastry's, but your sandwich makers are horrible. I Still and will hopefully always love this bakery, but hope the quality doesn't continue to decline. On a side note: I will like to request that some breakfast options be added to the menu. Perhaps Bagel or croissant with egg, bacon/sausage and cheese. I know several loyal locals that would love this.

Yelp
Delicious breads, sandwiches, blueberry danishes. Limited but available gluten free options. Day old sandwiches are the best bang for your buck if you aren't picky with your flavors - I had the mozzarella and it was super yummy! No posted menu but browsing the bread racks before jumping in line seems acceptable. They support Planned Parenthood but they aren't overrun with political stickers or signs. Friendly staff! E.g. I bought a gluten free banana bread for a friend and then remembered they needed new coffee beans - so 15 minutes after purchasing (I was enjoying my Danish on a bench outside) I returned the bread in exchange for a special Bread blend from Durango Coffee Company - no hold ups or problems encountered! Bread bakes their items here and then drops off items at their downtown location which has a slightly smaller selection (but their downtown location has free wifi! And more seating). Minimal sitting outside - just a few benches, so it's more of a buy and head out sort of place. No wifi. Plenty of bicycle parking though!

Julie R.

Yelp
The only reason I'm giving it 2 stars is for the ambience. Overpriced, average (at best) waffle and green chile croissant. Syrup for the waffle was ice cold and there was barely any green chile on the green chile egg croissant. Eggs were luke warm. Went here based on the 4 star review on Yelp. Wouldn't go back.
google avatar

Kim N.

Yelp
Seems like this was a bad day for them because everything we had was subpar and didn't live up to the other reviews. We came early Sat morning. Every pastry we had was really dry (we had many: almond croissant, regular croissant, cream cheese danish, and cinnamon roll). Our quiche was cold and pretty bland. We also took home 3 cookies. The famous oat one was also really dry. I like crunchy cookies, but this was so baked it lost all moisture & definitely wasn't soft on the inside like some reviews said. The peanut butter cookie disintegrates upon biting, which made it feel like pb powder instead of a cookie. The gingerbread was okay, nothing amazing. Really disappointed!
google avatar

Yelp
Consistently incredible pastries, bread, and service over the decade that I've lived in durango.
google avatar

Ilana K.

Yelp
Great cookies! Amazing bread! Helpful employees :) Not sure which cookie is the best so you ll have to get one of each! I also love grabbing a bag of their day old bread.
google avatar

Ann X.

Yelp
Coffee wasn't great, and our quiches were cold... also came out to be $22, and we regretted not going elsewhere for a larger, warmer breakfast. Not sure where the positive reviews are coming from, maybe other desserts? Logo and space was aesthetically pleasing, but food and coffee were both disappointing.

Yelp
Bread is a staple in Durango. If you don't go here at least once a week you are muy loco! Jen AMAZED me this weekend. A customer was a Fruit Loop and Jen still treat them with kindness. Their customer service is as exceptional as is the bread. When we visit from Montrose we have neighbors who place orders with us. Life is even better because they open shop downtown for lunch. Cannot say enough good things about this place!
google avatar

Selena P.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I came by here to grab an easy lunch and coffee and we were blown away! The coffee was smooth, the cookies were incredible especially the chocolate coffee one, and the sandwiches were the show stopper! We got a pastrami and the ham and Brie sandwich both were perfect! The flavors were so defined and the homemade bread really brought it all together. Also the employees were kind and helpful!
google avatar

Dana Z.

Yelp
Excellent bakery that makes excellent..... bread! Yup, their bread is all things good! But the scones.... Are to die for!
google avatar

Seryozha A.

Yelp
This place was a bit out of our way but it had good reviews and looked like it was worth a detour on our traipse out of Durango. They have a nice selection of baked goodies. We got croissants and macaroons and while we were briefly waiting after paying I spied my lunch in the display case - ready made sandwiches to go. Waitstaff very personable and really enjoys pleasing customers
google avatar

Brooke M.

Yelp
Yay for bread! We love getting loafs here each week (sliced is great), and they make one of the best scones I've ever had (honey nut)! Prices are reasonable and I really appreciate that since so many other places are outrageous with what they are charging for coffee- thanks for keeping it real Bread!
google avatar

Nathan R.

Yelp
One of the best bakeries there ever was and the prices are damned good. The situation with tipping employees leaves a bad taste in my mouth, however.

Christa L.

Yelp
Great products and great owners. Lots of give back to the community and product that while I can't eat it always smells amazing. Progressive and thoughtful company.
google avatar

Jayla B.

Yelp
I'm from out of town, just wanted to grab some breakfast. When I got there, line out the door. It went quickly and I know why, the muffins were yummy! Check out the menu before you go and grab some extra stuff for the road.
google avatar

Emily G.

Yelp
Delish! Cookies are enormous and it tastes as if they use the highest quality ingredients, prices are great! They also have some outdoor eating area that has shade! Kids loved the place and they also have a deli. It's a place we will come again!

Terri M.

Yelp
if you want a hearty, presumably healthy, definitely not low calorie, oatmeal cookie, you can't go wrong at Bread in Durango. We took several on the road with us. My biggest regret is that we didn't get more and that we didn't try their other baked goods. Lunch there was good as well. Plus, they had wonderful cold brew coffee that was great with the cookie.
google avatar

Lisa B.

Yelp
I hate to say this because I love this community and I want all the local businesses to succeed, but my experience with the new downtown Durango location of Bread was awful, and some feedback is in-order. The salami sandwich I had was tough, chewy, soggy, and stale. It was one of the worst sandwiches I've had. When I asked for some mayo to put on it, the employee told me that they don't have any at the downtown location because all the sandwiches are made elsewhere. During the time between when the sandwich was made (in some other location) and when I bought it at 11:45am, the bread got stale, the lettuce got soggy and wilted, and it was an overpriced and lousy sandwich. If you're going to offer sandwiches, make them within an hour of when you're going to sell them - it shouldn't be that hard. If it is too difficult to do that, don't offer sandwiches. I didn't try anything else, and I'm not inclined to return. But from looking around, it appeared that there isn't much selection at the downtown Durango location. I hope they improve so they get repeat business. Given the sandwich I just had, I won't be back there any time soon.
google avatar

Ragnar R.

Yelp
It's just OK. Let me repeat that: it's just OK. Yes it's better than the City Market bakery but everything here is bland and insipid. Their scones and muffins have only a hint of the flavor that you're buying them for. Their premade sandwiches sound great based on the ingredient list, but it's bland bland bland. They don't make French bread and I'm convinced they would suck at it, regardless. Stick with their olive loaf (good) and chocolate chip cookies (hard to screw those up).

Yelp
This place is awesome. We were in town for a long weekend of skiing, and a friend told us this was the place to go to grab sandwiches for a ski lunch. The place is pretty small, and signage not the best, but I think it's to keep it a locals secret. Seems like it's best to get there early. We had a tiny wait in line outside as they only let 2 parties in at a time due to covid. But they seemed well set up, and practiced all necessary safety protocols. They have a list of the special breads they bake every day of the week and small pastry counter with all the delicious looking goodies for the day, cookies, brownies, muffins... but we went for the sandwiches. Once in the store, off to the right, they have a display case of pre-made sandwiches. I'm not normally one for pre-made sandwiches because often times I get them and the lettuce and tomato have made the bread soggy and it just starts falling apart before you even get in your first bite. Let me tell you, these sandwiches were perfection! They had a number of different ones, maybe 5-6 kinds. Turkey and cranberry, BLT, pastrami, mozzarella, ham and cheese and maybe one more, a salami? Anyways, they are huge and delicious and served on their amazing bread. These things are so good, we went every morning, 3 days in a row to get them for our ski lunch. And yes, I ate that turkey one 3 days in a row, and every time was better than I remembered. The cranberry added a nice sweetness without it over powering the sandwich as a whole. Everyone else went for the BLT. Served on a huge roll, the bacon was delicious and thick cut and nicely smoked. And they serve coffee/espresso so it was the perfect stop for us to get our morning coffee and our lunch for later before heading up the mountain. I suggest getting there early bc I'm sure they sell out of those tasty sandos! I also got a mini loaf of a gluten free blueberry banana bread that was so satisfying. Prefect touch of sweetness, moist, and had great texture. I honestly can't say enough about this place. Thank you so much for feeding us your deliciousness! I just wish they had one here in San Diego!
google avatar

Tim C.

Yelp
Smelled bad and bread tasted the same. Got a variety and all was lack luster. Sad, but will not be back.
google avatar

Ann C.

Yelp
Bread is great. We always come here. However this time dissatisfied with them bc we stopped on our way back to Mancos and it was 3:55 but they locked the doors. They are supposed to be open till 4. If they want to lock doors before 4pm they should change third hours. I know this is a small town but please!! Business is business.

Taylor H.

Yelp
Went in on a Thursday morning! We're not from the area, but it was recommended we stop here as we were passing through. I got a cinnamon roll which was very hard and difficult to break apart/eat. The icing kind of saved it but not enough. I ordered an iced latte and husband got a cortado. No complaints! I went back and bought a bag of beans for the week! To save for lunch, I got a blt and husband got the salami sandwich-- when I tell you YUM, I mean YUM! The only real downside was the service. Everyone just seemed kind of blah, very uninterested in being there. I asked if there were any flavors I could get in my latte, as they aren't listed on the menu, and the cashier kind of shrugged and said, "um, I think we have vanilla?" So i got vanilla! Then i heard another guy order mocha, so i was thinking, ok they have mocha too. It was just weird to simply not list a couple flavors and it felt like she just wanted the order to be over. Nice stop for passing through, but unsure we'd consider it again!

K B.

Yelp
Sourdough loaves with chewy crust and tangy innards.....heavenly and a great value for the work involved to make them. Cranberry oat pecan cookies, delicious!!

Sarah W.

Yelp
Always delicious sandwiches and cookies. Try the hand pies when they are available!!!

Kathie L.

Yelp
I love Bread's sandwiches-this trip I had the caprese with the olive tapenade-it is my favorite! We also had soup and grilled cheese which was phenomenal.

Tom L.

Yelp
Inconsistent quality of products: Some of Bread's products are outstanding such as banana bread but others are very dry - raisen scones. Just be careful in selection. Inconsistent staff: On our last visit the young woman did not know what pastries were available, was not friendly, and then overcharged us. We were very nice about it - anyone can make a mistake - but she never apologized or even said "oops" - she acted like we were stupid and inconveniencing her. We don't plan to go back for awhile. Hope management gets staff trained better. It wasn't a good experience.

Mary L.

Yelp
Love Bread but not as keen on the sourdough with the new flour choice..Hope it goes back to the best sour dough bread, ever..
google avatar

David W.

Yelp
Rude service. Cold quiche served. Good coffee. The rude service ruined the experience.

Deanna S.

Yelp
Great coffee pecan bums and bread sticks. We didn't have time to try more, but I wish we had!! Heartily recommend!!!
google avatar

Asia P.

Yelp
Certainly the best bakery in town (location CR 250)! Not only is the bread delicious but it's pretty darn cheap. Perfect price point for the quality. Pretty large selection of bread as well. I love their rosemary sourdough! I also love their ginger cookies! Perfectly chewy and sweet yet spicy flavor. I have been told that their blueberry danish is to die for, but they never seem to have them by the time I wake up lol. Also, their staff is so nice! Very friendly and helpful. They are always very patient while I try to choose which treat I will indulge in.
google avatar

Emily J.

Yelp
I'm in love! It's a good thing I don't live in Durango because I would have to go to therapy to get help from eating too many Sow Your Oats cookies. I'm addicted. I've tried several types of their bread, the granola, brownies, and all of the cookies...it's all amazing! They have a different selection of breads each day. They also have sandwiches. The owner, Rob, is a bike fanatic and very kind. We mentioned we were from Colorado Springs and would be back the next day to pick up some more goodies for our daughter on our way home. He surprised us by putting together a care package for her. So thoughtful. If you live in Durango (lucky you!) or if you're just visiting, you have to try Bread...especially the Sow Your Oats cookies...you won't be disappointed. You might just become addicted like me?!

Yelp
The review is based purely on the the customer service. I am a business man that gives gifts to potential clients across the country. Negatives about their customer service: 1. No credit cards accepted ( I had to write a personal check), for a business expense. 2. I bought $25 worth of cookies. I told them it was a gift. They were thrown in a box, like, I need to get this done as fast as possible. There were no other customers in the store. 3. I was chastised for not ordering ahead. I don't know how that would be possible given that I only know the proximity of my bakery after I know where my hotel is. 4. No one said thank you to me. 5. The box of cookies had some sort of grease all over the bottom of it. I didn't noticed it until I picked up off of the leather seats in my car. Maybe after I taste the cookies, I will change my review. Jonathan
