The 15 Essential Restaurants in Missoula, Home of the University of Montana

"With its downtown location, room to spread out, and killer coffee and baked goods, Break is Missoula’s go-to study spot. You can find students and locals chatting, reading, taking notes, and scrambling to get work done any time of the day, 365 days a year. Start your morning off bright and early with caffeine and a breakfast sandwich, or come by for a piece of pie in the evening. You might even spot professors cramming too." - Lotus Porte-Moyel

The coffee was great. I had a latte and it was perfect. The customer service was lacking. They seemed bored and bothered to help. (We were there about 6:00 a.m. and it wasn’t busy.) The venue itself was nice and comfortable, but the tables were dirty. The pastry looked great, but was dry and tasteless. (I had a bear claw.) If I go back, it would just be for coffee.

Great space with lots of seating. Huge selection of options for a “coffee shop”. Pecan pie was flavorful and light. The crust far better than most. The cherry pie was ok, but not as tart as expected. The Chai was beautifully spicy and accentuated the pie well. We felt like we were imposing on the staff to get served. Hopefully just an off rough day.

Won't be back. Service from the lady was apathetic. Prices are a little high. And the ambience is odd. They do have lots of sugar-free syrup options which was nice.

Amazing pastries! I try chocolate chip cookies everywhere I go and this place has one of the best chocolate chip cookies I’ve tried! It’s a giant, thick cookie that is perfectly balanced with a great texture. I first tried it from the orange market but went later & got a slice of peach pie & some tea. The peach pie was also delicious & the crust was amazing! Highly recommend coming here for the pastries & the spacious & open atmosphere. Will be back to pick up another cookie on my way out of town.

A+ on all points First and foremost is the early opening at 5:30am. I’m an early riser and am always astounded by cafes that serve breakfast but don’t open until 8am. Breakfast biscuit sandwich was excellent. Coffee is superb and hot (just had drip coffee). Seating and tables are abundant and spacious. Service was super friendly and efficient. Got a couple epic pie slices to take home for later. I wouldn’t change a thing about this place.

It’s a very ample coffee/bakery downtown Missoula. Very chill and comfy type spot. Their strawberry rhubarb pie was very good.

Morning coffee as I'm getting to the far end of the central time zone. It's certainly time to find a spot to connect to wifi so that I can work this morning. Thankfully, Break is open early (5:30 am!) and so here we are. The coffee was excellent. The cinnamon roll was very sweet but still delicious. And the seating was comfortable. Four hours of coffee and wifi later, it's time to move on to the next stop.

Stopped in here after seeing it was open late the night before. I love the atmosphere to sit and make calls and get work done while out of town. Delicious pastries, excellent coffee and amazing friendly staff. Easy to get lost in writing while friendly folks come and go through their day.
