Break Even Beermakers Bring Big Beer Ambitions to Amador City, California’s Smallest Town - Eater SF

"On the south end, there’s the rough-hewn Western facade of Break Even Beermakers — though the sign out front uses only one word: tavern." - Lauren Saria

Amazing find, great place to stumble upon. Classy and comfortable. The tap selection was impressive for a brewery located in the smallest town in California. Pop. 200

How does a dry Suisun like brew with floral and citrus notes sound? Or a wry pastiche, amber-hued beer made with oats and rye to produce a spicy, barley wine flavor. Break Even also makes a daily shrub, if you prefer an alcohol-free beverage. BE beers are mid-to low ABV, drier and sessionsble. The farm-to-table approach to beer making is what sets Break Even apart from other breweries. A true brewer is in touch with every aspect of the process. By growing the hops and seeing the barley growing in the fields. They have incorporated a taproom, brewhouse and small farm; where the team grows and harvest fresh hops, stone fruit and citrus for their beers. This is a great date spot. Enjoy a refreshing beer in the beer garden, located towards the back of the brewery. If the date is going well, order another beer with an appetizer. Or enjoy a stroll around Amador City. Had the pickled eggs that were good. The pickled plate was okay. Both of our salads had way too much salt, maybe too much dressing? Both of our beers were okay but not great. Just an overall okay experience that should probably be better for the price point.

Great place to stop for great beer and exceptional service. The patio is delightfully decorated and a shady, cool place to visit with friends and family. Can't wait to come back!

cute building located on the edge of an even cuter town. they had a popup bbq the day we were here and only two beers on tap. the beers were "interesting" with an rye/oats dark ale and a dry saison. both were good but not beers I would drink on the 85 degree day we were there... the patio was awesome. wish they would have at least 4 beers on tap... stay tuned for more interesting things to come from them... but for now 3 stars.

Great beer garden. Lots of seating and shade overlooking the creek. Beers were great. You can taste the craftsmanship in every sip. I will be back next week

Yelp
We found Break Even due to a detour through Jackson. We ended up searching for a dog friendly place and a patio since the closer brewery didn't fit the bill. Break Even is as aesthetically pleasing as it gets. The bohemian renovations within the old bones of the original building are beyond charming. The beer garden layout had a long catwalk over a creek to German style picnic benches. The high line elevated water misters in the high heat, and the outside cabana offered relief from the scorching sun. The staff were beyond accommodating, and they immediately offered our dog a selection of chew treats and water, along with getting a fresh keg for the beer I chose. They carried select wines from my friend's favorite winery club in Berkley. My wife loved her cider and got an extra one to go for the road. Overall the food was pretty lit too, the sausage was piping hot and marked with crisscross cuts to allow the melty cheesy goodness to show. The Panzanella salad was fresh and full of heirloom tomatoes and olives with huge chunks of soft focaccia bread. The meatloaf sandwich was decadent and came with awesome "potato chips" dusted in a Cajun style rub. Last, I would've loved to grab a coffee since they had a baby La Marzocco espresso machine, so hopefully I'll get to come back again to grab an iced espresso. Overall, this place is an amazing pit stop off of a very tight turn from a bridge to Amador!

Yelp
I will give this a 0 - Wok and Roll spent plenty of money on food a 5! We cannot support an establishment that DOES NOT SUPPORT having the USA flag in front of their establishment. The rainbow is fine but the other is not OK. We have an American flag across the street which ok "from what the owner said but in front of his establishment "NO". I guess the City dictates what the fly. Hmm... And NO I have nothing against the rainbow flag...but fly both. God Bless America We won't be back and we will tell other Veterans and Soldiers do not support.

Yelp
It doesn't get any better than this, especially on a nice day. i look for three things, tasty beer, welcoming and knowledgeable staff, and a good drinking environment. This brewery hits all three outta the park. A top ten brewery experience. Check it out!

Yelp
We stopped by Amador City on Saturday afternoon to check out the new location for Break Even Beer. Great outdoor space, spotless, beer is terrific. Design is clean and inviting. And they allow dogs!

On point. Don't snooze on this spot. Staff is incredibly kind, food is seasonal, local, and shareable. Beer selection is great.

Yelp
This aesthetics of this place is so nice and welcoming. Plenty of seating in the front and the back of the brewery. The service was excellent the staff were very friendly and the food was fantastic. I recommend the fried risotto they were very delicious and the meatloaf sandwich was so good. The bread is perfection and the house chips ( closer to the UK definition than the US definition since they were not thin and crispy. They were sliced circular like chips but too thick so the texture was more like a fry.) were seasoned so well. Overall it was a great experience I highly recommend and will return.

Yelp
Delicious food, tasty made on premises beer, fabulous focaccia sandwich, nice people, but the prices are very high. A loaf of focaccia bread is $12. That is too much! Higher than the best focaccia in SF.
