The Best Restaurants Around Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (SLO), According to Eater Editors | Eater LA

"Late nights call for the legendary breakfast burrito at Breakfast Buzz, filled until the tortilla is almost bursting with eggs, potatoes, and protein. Go for one of the burritos on the menu, or build your own with a choice of ingredients like sausage, ham, and peppers. Breakfast Buzz serves a handful of other dishes, like a breakfast sandwich and eggs Benedict, but the burritos remain the main draw." - Rebecca Roland

Where to Eat Around Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (SLO)

"The breakfast burrito at Breakfast Buzz is the stuff of legend, loaded with fluffy eggs and lots of potato. It’s a hefty affair, the kind of fueling morning meal that helps bike riders get up the hill to campus in the morning. There are burgers and other breakfast plates as well, but the burrito is king." - Farley Elliott

Cute place! Food was okay. Waffle was cold, pancakes over cooked. Biscuit bottoms were also burnt. The eggs were good! Coffee was also a bit burned. Bacon was very good. Disappointed, but staff was great!

Made a quick stop here while on the road. I got scrambled eggs and bacon with a biscuit and gravy. My friend got the cowboy Benedict. We loved it. I am a bacon lover and this was some of the best bacon I have ever had. It had a slightly smokey flavor and it was a little thicker than what you usually get at a restaurant. The gravy was also very good and I know how to make an authentic southern sausage gravy and this surprisingly had some nice seasoning and the consistency was great. The cowboy Benedict is biscuits and gravy w sausage patties and fried eggs. I made my friend give me a bite. Yummy. The coffee was good also and that isn't always the case at a diner. Prices were good and the portions are large so if you better be hungry upon arrival. Parking is available in back. There is also outdoor seating for those of you who prefer that still. Definitely check out Breakfast Buzz and tell the Meek sent you. You will b happy you went.

I found this spot after a quick Google search for brunch in DTSLO after I inadvertently had the day off from work. I had a donut from another downtown spot that tickled my appetite and wanted a full plate a food to get the energy I needed for the day. Being only a 12 minute walk from the downtown library, I waltzed over here to find a full patio and quaint indoor dining room. I walked up to the counter and was greeted by a young, dirty blonde that asked me what I needed. She quoted me a five minute wait time and directed me to a bench on the patio. . They seated me promptly within my wait time at the first table I saw upon walking up to the diner. A square four top in the corner facing the street. Coupled with some great valley/mountain views I excited to have my first brunch in San Luis. I ordered a mimosa and the California Benedict. I didn't have to order water because my server came with a glass for me already. . I wasn't able to take pictures of my food because I asked my server to charge my phone while I was eating. The presentation of the plate was messy, but the food was scrumptious. The avocado seeped into the English muffin and was the perfect bed for a medium poached egg. It was also smothered in hollandaise sauce and came with home fries. A salt and peppered hair gentleman check in on me while I was eating and complimented my reading choice. I cleaned my plate, read my book, finished my mimosa and enjoyed the epic views. Grand total was $20.55 (pre-tip). This same dish would have easily costed upwards of $30 closer to the town center. I was happy I got to explore and always love a good neighborhood spot. Am excited to bring my best friend here and will be back again!

Google
Went to Breakfast Buzz a 2nd time today. Went in, put our name on their list, the girl said it would be a 5 minute wait. There was a table open inside, so we believed we wouldn’t wait too long. We waited outside for over 10 minutes and saw 3 tables open up plus several tables open up inside. Didn’t get called to be seated. 4 college students walked by us, checked in and within a minute was sat down at an open table outside😡. My husband approached the waiter who sat the college students and he asked if we had put our name down. We waited over 15 minutes while tables were busses and open😡. POOR SERVICE 😡😡. Train your crew better!

Google
I love their breakfasts burritos they are not dry and taste really good, their salsa also is great. Service is awesome; I've been a customer since we moved to SLO.

Google
Breakfast Buzz is a small place that can get busy, especially during the school year, so plan accordingly. They are known for their breakfast burritos and I faithfully get the Buzz Burrito every time because it's SO good. Other plates are good too, don't get me wrong, but definitely get a breakfast burrito.

Dalton Alvino

Google
Biscuit with gravy was completely flavorless. Diablo burrito was decent though.

Google
While there's really nothing super special about the atmosphere, the food was good, and the service was excellent. I had to take half of my breakfast home because it was a very generous size.

Yelp
Yummy breakfast burritos! We didn't notice until after we paid but they offer a BOGO deal if you download an app

Yelp
The food was pretty bland but I guess that's what the salt, pepper, and condiments were for. The muffin was too chewy. The service was excellent and the $15 bottomless mimosas was a great deal

Yelp
This place was amazing! Service was great. The food was wonderful.! We definitely will be back.

Yelp
When me and my sister went here my sisters bagel was burnt and my food was but overcooked it was not good and there was also a black hair in my food

Yelp
I made a quick stop here before a long drive. I ordered the breakfast sandwich with bacon and cheddar cheese on a bagel. They loaded the sandwich with protein and the service was friendly and quick.

Yelp
Checked this place out during a college tour trip with my daughter. She wanted brunch and happy to find this place Had waffles, eggs Benedict and an omelet. Jeff, the owner, was super friendly and made us feel welcome! Will definitely come back if we're in the area again!

Yelp
Food was so full of Flavor and chorizo and yummy. We had the the buzz burrito and el Diablo. The habanero salsa was sooo yummy. The staff is friendly and kept my coffee full. Tuesday is bogo day so bring a friend or take a burrito home.

Yelp
We got a corner table outside on Friday morning. It was pretty busy but service was good. We had salads, sandwiches and breakfast food and everything was good. Bloody Mary was also good!

Yelp
Dropped in here one late morning with my dog in tow. Glad they have a nice patio, and they asked me to choose the table I wanted. They brought a small bowl of water for Sarge, and I thought that was a nice touch. The patio sits right next to a main road on Santa Rosa, so there was a lot of traffic noise. This is not your quiet, intimate diner, but then, that's not what we wanted. It wasn't so noisy as to impact our quick breakfast. I can't comment on any inside dining. I had biscuits & gravy, eggs and bacon. It was tasty, and I enjoyed it. Service was efficient but not overly friendly. I was in and out in maybe 40 minutes, and since I had stuff to do, I appreciated the speed. It's not the best breakfast I ever had, but it was fine, and I'd come back here again next time Sarge & I have errands to run.

Yelp
Cute breakfast spot close to downtown SLO! I came here for brunch with a few friends on a Sunday and we were immediately seated outdoors. There are no heaters, so dress warm if you tend to run cold I ordered the Basic Burrito and a side of fruit. The burrito was tasty, with a nice balance of ingredients inside. The burrito was perfectly sized for one person and I was not overly full after I finished it. The fruit was fresh and plentiful I would gladly return in the future to try more from the menu!
google avatar

Yelp
Service is good, food is good. Small indoor dining and somewhat lager patio seating, you could also grab anything to go. Today I used a BOGO deal from SLOeats app, My only gripe is my breakfast burrito was hiding very old avocado and if they're going to do that personally I'd rather omit that. The portion for one burrito is a lot! Come hungry. Decent breakfast burrito but even without the avocado not the best in the area, if you follow me you should already know who holds my heart and where to find the best! If not DM me I'll share.

Yelp
Breakfast Buzz catered our daughter's post wedding brunch at Flying Caballos Ranch and the food was absolutely perfect! We had assorted breakfast burritos, muffins, and fruit - everything was delicious and our guests loved it! Jeff was super responsive and easy to work with! Highly recommend Breakfast Buzz for your next event!

Yelp
We ordered scrambled eggs, French toast, veggie sandwich with some salad. Food took a while to come as they had lot of customers. It was a good breakfast. No complaints.

Yelp
Would come to this spot for bottomless mimosas because it is the only place that serves bottomless any day of the week. However, the server never communicated the ending time for serving drinks which was disappointing because we had only gotten two cups of mimosas. Their breakfast burritos are super delicious and customizable which is delightful to enjoy while you are drunk :)

Yelp
I heard so much about this place in college and finally got to try it - 5 years later! We got their infamous burrito and we all ended with stomachache :( The tortillas were cold, the eggs were cold and nothing about it was warm and inviting. I really wanted to like it by even saving half and microwaving it at home but that didn't work. Not sure if I'll give it another try..

Yelp
If you are ever in Morro Bay area, this is a nice spot. Friendly staff. Good food. Great atmosphere!

Jason W.

Yelp
Went to this morning breakfast place on the recommendation of my wife and son. Chose the short stack of pancakes. The texture was not the best - sort of "rubbery". Size was very large as however if you like large portion sizes. Other members of family said their meals were average to good. Service was solid. Seating outside weather-wise was awesome with the SLO climate. Road noise is fairly intense though. Overall, acceptable but at the price probably would not choose to visit again.

Yelp
This is a great place to nickel and dime you on everything. Questioned our typically free elsewhere soda waters that we were charge $2.75 each for. Build your own burrito at 85 cents per ingredient when we had just asked is everything included and response was yes. Lost a local customer. This place did not make us feel welcome and price gouging to up prices isn't so great.

Yelp
So "The Breakfast Buzz" is a nice little quaint restaurant. There's around 4 to 6 tables inside, and it looks like a few more outside. It was raining so no tables were set up outside. They have a nice simple menu, which was nice. Our server was nice, friendly, and very attentive. And the food came out quick and was really good. The prices are very reasonable, which is also a plus. All in all, it's a good choice for breakfast.
google avatar

Mike M.

Yelp
I like to stop by The Breakfast Buzz from time to time and enjoy a nice breakfast. The food and service is usually good, but not exactly consistent. Seems like it depends on the staff for the day. Refills on the coffee are not a priority for the waitresses, even though it is a must for this sort of restaurant. They do not take the coffee pot around to all the tables like you would expect. On my last visit, the biscuit was as hard as a rock, the potatoes were dried out, and the gravy was way over peppered. Definitely not up to par; but that will not prevent me from going back. If I lived closer, I would go more often.

Yelp
Great little breakfast nook with all the necessities. Great customer service, great food and awesome location. The RestuArant was very clean and welcoming. Both indoor and outdoor seating available. Shawnecy and katelyn were both very personable and professional.

Roger T.

Yelp
I had chorizo and eggs which was delicious and unlike most other places which tend to be greasy, this was wholesome and pleasing to the taste.
google avatar

TJ T.

Yelp
I have been here twice now, I'm not a big breakfast person but this place is the best breakfast place I've been to. I just love there eggs Benedict's and the breakfast potatoes so good.
google avatar

Alison B.

Yelp
Cute place! Got the Cowboy Benedict. Delicious!! Food was served quickly. Staff was awesome. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
Sat us in the last hour they were open with incredible service and even better food, love it here incredibly cozy and talked with the owner.
google avatar

Yelp
Breakfast buzz burrito was so delicious. I wish I had gotten the Diablo one because I like extra spice, but I ask for the Cayucos sauce and the habanero sauce and added it to my burrito to my liking. The service was impeccable, and I love the outdoor seating with the umbrellas. I definitely would come here again for brunch and try something else.

Yelp
I ordered the eggs bacon and Potato plate. It was all great 10/10 would reccomend. Also bottomless mimosas are $14. We got our food and they gave us the check instantly. Customer service 5/10

Yelp
I drove up to SLO to visit my daughters, Ashleigh and Bayleigh, who frequent "The Breakfast Buzz" for the "vegetarian burritos" and "endless mimosas". Amazing service and amazing food! I will be returning soon!

Roxann W.

Yelp
We had the "breakfast buzz" burrito. It was very good! Salsa is very spicy, tho. Friendly, but very small indoor space. The kitchen staff is very loud and noisy. We had a buy one get one, otherwise it would be too expensive just for breakfast.

Rachel H.

Yelp
The awesome staff at breakfast Buzz made 30+ burritos and breakfast dishes for our bridal party the morning of our wedding and we are so grateful! The food was delicious and fresh and fueled us all up for the big day! We highly recommend them for breakfast, no matter what size your party! Certainly one of the best breakfasts in San Luis Obispo!!

Rachel T.

Yelp
I got the side of egg, side of toast, and 1 biscuit and gravy. The portions were larger than expected and priced very fairly! The materials were fresh and prepared well
google avatar

Julia F.

Yelp
One of the best breakfast burritos I've had in a long time. I ordered the "Buzz burrito" .. you pick meat and cheese (I chose sausage and Jack), and it comes with potatoes, avocado, sour cream, and tomato. It was seriously sooo good. I wish it had pico in it or the potatoes were cooked with a bit more seasoning, but the salsa on the side helped that out. The service was great and the food was reasonably priced. Will be coming back!
google avatar

Candice C.

Yelp
exceptionally bad. bad service- had to beg for coffee, creamer, & refill never came. they messed up my order then microwaved whole plate, ruining the food. the worst part was our waitress- she wore gym shorts that she used the waist band to hold her note pad for the food orders- sticking her hands down her pants repeatedly then serving food to customers. Gross! the owner should invest in aprons & the health dept should look at their ice machine.

Yelp
Small and chilly..... Once you got pass the cold temperature, yes we were sitting inside... the food is DELICIOUS. My daughter and I stopped in on our way home. She ordered the eggs with sausage, I got the Huevos Benedict. My daughter also added a few more items to her order and they accommodated. Both of our meals were great, served hot and all tasted delicious. I must order a breakfast burrito on my next visit. While we were there at least 30 burritos were ordered by many to go. The service was great. There was only one server taken orders for the tables and to go and she was so efficient. Same with the kitchen, the food came out in a very timely manner. Great spot to catch a great breakfast. Definitely will be back!

Chris S.

Yelp
The food is better than ever at the Buzz--there must have been a change in the cooks. The weather is perfect for their outdoor patio.

Nina T.

Yelp
Wanted some tasty breakfast so I called to place an order. Answered on the first ring I should have known right there. I've been going there a long time always a line. Got my food nice girl helped. The food was awful won't be going there anytime soon. I can only assume there was a change in cooks or management.

Tiffany P.

Yelp
Cute little spot. Small in the inside and have outdoor seating as well. Workers were working hard and service was fast. You can tell locals LOVE this place! We ordered the Buzz burrito with sausage. WOW! The BEST breakfast burrito we've ever had. EVER. That's saying a lot. Wish there was a Breakfast Buzz in my area. I'm so sad it's hours away from me but definitely will be back just for this breakfast burrito! I even forgot to take a photo of my food! Open a restaurant near LA area! I would love that! :)

Candace W.

Yelp
Great spot to eat! A little mixup due to new cooks in the kitchen but it was made right with a smile. The staff was friendly and accommodating and the food was excellent. Perfect little spot to check out when you are in SLO! Check it out, you won't be disappointed!
google avatar

Rachel G.

Yelp
Really yummy breakfast spot that has all the essentials. The food is great - I got the eggs Benedict with a side of fruit and really enjoyed it! Doesn't have any special ambience or vibe, but is a great option for a casual breakfast joint.
google avatar

Louise S.

Yelp
First time going and overall impressed! Not a ton of inside seating nor patio space but grilled cheese was perfect! Highly recommend the sourdough
google avatar

Tiffany R.

Yelp
Food was good. Service was great. Always prefer the local feel and that's def what you get here.
google avatar

Tracy K.

Yelp
We walked here from our hotel for some breakfast before starting our day and was greeted by super friendly staff that were extremely attentive and despite being suddenly VERY busy, somehow able to keep up with all of their customers and keep a smile on their faces. Portions were generous for the price and overall we were very pleased we found this little gem in SLO. I'm excited to come back again when we visit our son at CalPoly. Keep up the great job you're doing!!!
google avatar

C Q.

Yelp
We were in the area on a mini vacay get away. We were looking for breakfast as we headed to Morro Bay. I happened to see the Breakfast Buzz sign and pointed this joint out. The wife said her co-worker loved this place. We decided to make the stop. Glad we did. The wife and I ordered the chorizo burritos and my son went with a biscuit and gravy. The burrito and the salsa that comes with it was delicious. If I had one minor tweak to this burrito, just a tad bit less potatoes. I feel it is a bit much and you miss out on the chorizo and eggs. Other than that this was a great breakfast. So good that we ate there twice. Haha
google avatar

Yelp
Breakfast diner right on a busy street so it's always crowded especially on weekends, but the wait isn't bad at all. There is a small parking lot that I usually can find parking, but today I walked from home and that was perfect with how many cars were parked. I noticed there were a few new burrito options that I haven't seen before- some people at our table tried the El Diablo and they liked it! My go-to is the Buzz burrito, which comes with breakfast burrito usuals with a choice of meat and cheese. It also comes with a mild salsa so I like to top the burrito with hot sauce. Not my all time favorite breakfast burrito in slo, but it gets me full and satisfied!
google avatar

Natalia T.

Yelp
We ate here on our way home from Cambria. The staff was so friendly, the portions are very filling. The huevos Benedictos was so delicious and spicy. My mom loved their French toast, and my kids enjoyed their pancakes. We will stop by next time we're in the area.
google avatar

Jessica R.

Yelp
Why is there so many good reviews for this place? Bland breakfast burritos most potatoes and cold gauc. Go to a taqueria
google avatar

Ricky V.

Yelp
Jeff and Avery treated me very well. I felt welcomed and like a valued customer. Jeff shared some of his story with me. We talked about surf spots and he was fun to speak with. Avery also was pleasant and shared a little about her experiences. When I return to SLO County I will definitely want to stop by.
google avatar

Conner S.

Yelp
This place is extremely popular in town and can have a long wait on the weekends. It is especially packed with students. In my opinion there is nothing special about this place that is worth waiting in line for. It is very basic American breakfast food so there isn't anything that will blow you away. They do a good job delivering the classic eggs, bacon, toast, pancakes etc. but so could a lot of other places in the world. It's located right on Santa Rosa so it's easy to spot. For a town that prides itself on good breakfast burritos, you're best off scouting those out instead.
