Breakfast By Salt’s Cure - Review - Prospect Heights - New York - The Infatuation

"LA-import Breakfast By Salt’s Cure, whose oatmeal griddle cakes cause routine lines at their West Village location, has a second spot in NYC—this time in Prospect Heights. We’d expect a scene on weekend mornings. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Will Hartman

Trendy spot with unique breakfast I came to breakfast by salt cure to try their griddle cakes. I was doubtful I would enjoy them as I enjoy more traditional pancakes. I was pleasantly surprised that I thoroughly enjoyed their various flavors of griddle cakes. On this visit I ordered the blueberry griddle cakes (requested gluten free), the traditional griddle cakes (gluten free as well), the chicken cutlet and the breakfast potatoes. The griddle cakes are definitely the highlight of this restaurant. They are thin, crisped on the edges but soft and tender in the center. They have a moist sweetness that makes up for the lack of syrup. They are served with a number of toppings as well as a generous amount of butter. They are really great creations and I would come back just to try all their flavors. The chicken cutlet was fine. It was fresh and tender and was served with honey. However, it was pretty bland when served side by side with the griddle cakes. It just felt out of place and I wouldn’t order it on my next visit. The breakfast potatoes were good. They are perfectly cooked. They are crispy brown homestyle potatoes but not burnt or overcooked. They are pretty flavorless though so definitely ask for ketchup. Yes, they taste fresh but they lack the special attention that seems to have gone into the griddle cakes. Overall, I would just come for the griddle cakes and order a bunch of them. They are deceivingly filling and genuinely delicious. Everything else is just fine to kind of good but definitely not special.

I pass by this place all the time and always see a line outside, which usually scares me off — but I finally had a free day and decided to give it a try. Since it was just me, the wait was totally manageable, and the line actually moved seamlessly. The staff were incredibly friendly, and the ordering system is easy: you order at the counter and they bring the food right to your table. I was seated at a cozy booth by the window, which was perfect for people-watching. There’s plenty of seating inside plus an outdoor area, so it never felt cramped. I ordered the pancakes, the soft scramble with brioche, and an iced coffee. The pancakes were unlike anything I’ve ever had — crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and the dark chocolate chips added the perfect balance of sweetness. They’re a heavier dish, so I’d definitely recommend sharing; I had leftovers even with a big appetite. Truly the highlight of the meal! The soft scramble was cooked perfectly and was exactly the right portion size. Highly recommend getting the brioche bread with it — buttery, soft, and such a great pairing. The iced coffee was also excellent. All around, a wonderful experience. I’d absolutely come back and bring friends for brunch — the food, staff, and atmosphere all make it worth the line!

Absolutely delicious, lives up to its hype. Came in on a gray Sunday at 8:30, no wait no crowd. Window table. Food is affordable for the amount you get and absolutely delicious. Tried the og, was a little skeptical about no syrup but the butter does the work of keeping things moist but id appreciate it on the side next time to distribute to my preference. Soft moist oatmeal griddle cakes seasoned well with a nice bite and flavor. The home fries are the best roast potatoes I've had in quite some time seasoned with paprika. So delicious. The pork sausage was good but I over ordered for sure. The coffee is refills for free and a very solid cup. This is the ideal breakfast, everything came out to under 30 bucks and I'm completely full and happy. Service was polite and kind and very quick, didn't wait long at all.

The oatmeal griddle cakes are the main draw— so if you’re not a pancake type of person, it’s not worth it. My friend and I shared the pink lady apple cakes and they were delicious. This place is anti-syrup but I think real maple syrup would’ve been good on them! We also had the pork sausage (excellent) and arugula (fine), and my friend had a side of scrambled eggs. We sat outside, which was bright and heated and cozy. The main drawback is that you order/pay when you walk in and then you sit, so you’re not able to order more food or something else to drink without going back to the front. We also had kind of a weird moment asking for silverware; the woman next to us was finishing up and so the server grabbed the container of silverware from her table and plunked it on ours which felt weird… but it was clean. Would’ve been nice to have my coffee refilled without needing to get up to get another one. I’d probably come back but wouldn’t wait in a line (we got lucky but there were lots of people waiting when we left).

Google
This place has some of the best griddle pancakes in the city. If you’ve never had an oatmeal griddle pancake before — they’re made with oats, extra fluffy and filling, with soft centers and perfectly crispy edges. The cinnamon butter on top is the real game-changer, adding just the right amount of sweetness and warmth. Another thing I like is that you pay up front, so there’s no long wait for the check at the end. It keeps the line moving quickly especially during weekends. + they are planning to open up backyard space

Google
Definitely one of the best pancakes that I’ve had but I haven’t had many. The actual dish was delicious but very heavy, you can share one order between two people. The sides were okay, the eggs were a bit under seasoned. When we got there, the line was about 4 parties deep so we only had to wait about 10 minutes. Happy I stopped by but not sure if I’d come back again.

Google
Just basic. Nothing special, pancakes are crispy edges and then gooey. The potatoes and crispy chicken cutlet was good but not in a I need to have this again type of way. Just meh overall.

Yelp
This place has some of the best griddle pancakes in the city. If you've never had an oatmeal griddle pancake before, you're in for a treat -- they're made with oats, so they come out extra fluffy and filling, with soft centers and perfectly crispy edges. The cinnamon butter on top is the real game-changer, adding just the right amount of sweetness and warmth. Another thing I really appreciate is the way they handle service -- you pay up front, so there's no long wait for the check at the end. It keeps the line moving quickly and makes the whole experience much smoother, especially on busy mornings. All in all, it's a great spot for breakfast or brunch, bright and welcoming-definitely a neighborhood go-to. If you're nearby, this is one of those places worth making part of your routine.

Yelp
I went as part of my question to try all the top rated pancakes in the city. Went on a week day and was able to walk right in. you order and pay at the counter, which I like. I had the OG pancakes. Very different. Very good. I wouldn't rush back for them because there are ones I prefer, but I would enjoy having them again sometime. They are a little gooey, almost like an undercooked cookie. So if you are a Levain Bakery person, you might like these. Maybe I am being uptight to withhold a star, but I found my ice coffee undrinkable and super expensive. It's a nice place. Comfortable.

Yelp
My first time here was at Carroll Garden's location and today was my first time at this location. Nothing different about the two, very consistent. LOVE the OG pancakes but they are a bit soft due to it being oatmeal. However, I love them and the butter on top! They can be made dairy free and GF which is great, the only diary used is the butter. Next time I'll try the banana walnut one for maybe more texture. Also got the chicken sandwich. It's delicious but it came out a little burnt today. Otherwise it's a great dish. I do want to try their eggs. They look so fresh and fluffy. Great place to grab breakfast/lunch with quick service! The outdoor space at Prospect Heights location is still not open but once it is it'll be nice to have more spots available. The Carroll Gardens location is small and always a long wait.

Yelp
OG and apple pancakes great. Potatoes solid. But definitely the pancakes. Can't go wrong. Never had griddle pancakes before. Great 1st time experience

Yelp
I was so excited to see this location open up in the neighborhood! There was a bit of a line at around 12:30 but it moved pretty fast and if you're a group of 2, you get in faster. Service was super fast once we got in. We ordered at the register, then were brought to our table. We only waited a few minutes before the griddlecakes came out and wow, every time I eat them I love them a little bit more. The griddlecakes at breakfast by salts cure are the perfect combo of ooey gooey oatmeal and crisp edges. Can't wait to come back for more! Also hot take, the OG is the best flavor

Yelp
As far as breakfast goes, salts cure does it well. The star of the show is definitely their griddle cakes and I went with their OG, along with scrambled eggs and homes fries. The eggs are on the runnier side and the home fries are salted well. The griddle cakes are tasty, with crispy edges and cakey. They are topped with butter, already sweet on their own don't require any more syrup. There's gonna be a wait for this popular spot but the turnaround is quick and they're pretty efficient and it's worth the wait.

Yelp
This spot is great and not very busy as compared to their other Brooklyn location. Super fair prices, which I really appreciate. Love all their griddle cakes, and the eggs and hash brown are great too. I'd skip the fried chicken, though maybe it's more appealing in.sandwich form. Would recommend for a casual breakfast!

Yelp
What a great concept. My first time at a Salt's Cure....and this will fit in just perfectly in the 'hood. Counter service concept so order find a seat and they will bring it to you. That popular concept is popping up all over. Tried the OG and the cinnamon butter is just sweet enough on the soft griddle cakes. Also got the soft scramble which was cooked perfectly. The sausage looked very appealing too. Prices seem reasonable not crazy high.

Yelp
Wasn't super excited for another breakfast spot until I tried this place! Welcome to my life oatmeal griddle cakes! They were both crispy on the outside and soft inside. The butter on the OG was yummy. Can't say I wouldn't still like to put syrup on these bad boys, though you won't get it here. Good size portion and was enough for 2 of us. Prices are on par with what you are getting. Love the order at the counter, don't sit until you order concept which made the service quick. Staff are friendly and helpful. Also, may seem minor but props for the Cholula on all the tables! There is a nice outdoor sitting area as well which is great for this time of year. Can't wait to come back and try some other menu items!

Yelp
I was shocked that the menu is basically just pancakes and sides that you can get to accompany those pancakes BUT the pancakes are so so so so good. I tried both the blueberry and apple ones and both were amazing. I can't wait to come back again!

Yelp
ordered the og pancakes and home fries. the pancakes are the most popular item and i was a bit disappointed with them. they are extremely soft almost undercooked in texture which made them taste sort of raw. they're very rich and i could only eat one. the home fries were delicious and i would eat them again. super nice and crunchy with a fluffy inside. the restaurant is a bit finicky though and would not let us split the bill which was strange since you pay/order at the counter before you sit down.

Yelp
This was thee absolutely most disgusting thing I have eaten in a longgggggg time! I had the banana walnut and it was soooooo mushy with an off putting taste that both my friend and I related to how baby barf smells. I can't believe this is a thing lmaoooo I swear people's palates are shot to hell.
