Fantastic food and amazing service. The staff treats you like family and will spend time getting to know you. Will always recommend or come here even if I move out of the area!

This place feels like a warm cozy home and eat delicious homemade food. I got the chicken fried steak and was delicious. The gravy they use is so good youll come back for more. The chilaquiles have a great authentic mexican taste to them.

Google
Absolutely delicious, we've been twice and it was great both times. My partner recommends Biscuits and gravy, Eggs Benedict with Herb potatoes and the Avocado Toast, delicious! In my opinion, better than Breakfast Republic or Fig Tree Cafe. No wait either. 😁

Google
I had such a great time being at the breakfast house, the food was fantastic tasty and delicious. Breakfast house also did have wonderful service too, I was given napkins and silverware within an instant. The setting was very warming too which allowed me to feel safe and secure. 10/10 highly recommended.

Me and my partner were in a rush today but we also didn’t want to get fast food so we came here. The server KARINA immediately knew and rushed the food and got us to go boxes. She and the cooks were amazing. She helped in every way she could and had an excellent attitude about it. We’ve come here before and every time is an excellent time. Don’t forget to tip your servers they work really hard here and genuinely deserve it!!!

Great food and service. We stopped here for breakfast before a long day of site seeing and this was a great start to our day!

Yelp
What an outstanding breakfast spot!!! To start off me and my party came to have some breakfast. Upon entering this humble restaurant we were greeted by a very nice staff. Our waitress was nothing but polite and friendly. A great way to start the morning off. The entire time we were here she would always check in on us at the perfect times and made sure to always refill our drinks. Especially that coffee!!! Cleanliness here was just fine. Didn't reek of chemicals but was not scary to step on the floors. Food itself was so delicious. I had ordered the veggie scramble and I couldn't put my fork down. The flavor was so juicy and so tasty with the different veggies. Nothing was overcooked and nothing was undercooked. The toast wasn't soggy either. One member in my party particularly noted that the breakfast chorizo was one of the best chorizo she had ever had in her life. I was surprised considering she's a very tough critic. It's highly recommended to try the breakfast chorizo here!!! Overall a great spot. I have no major concerns or complaints. It got the job done with great portions and great flavors. Quality of food was there. I will definitely come back to try more from this menu. Thank you!!!

Yelp
I ordered from The Breakfast House thinking I'd treat myself to a solid breakfast--what I got was one of the worst meals I've had in a long time, and I paid $25 for it. For that kind of money, I expected at least decent food. Instead, I got something that felt like a lazy afterthought. The eggs and sausage were the only halfway decent part of the meal, and that's being generous. But let's talk about the rest: The "herb potatoes" tasted like they were seasoned with literal potpourri--like someone thought dried flowers and whatever was lying in a spice rack would somehow enhance the flavor. It didn't. It was disgusting. The chicken tenders? Fake, rubbery, absolutely awful. I've had better frozen tenders from the dollar store. The toast? Don't even get me started. It wasn't toasted at all--just a sad, dry, cold piece of bread tossed onto the plate like an afterthought. Calling it "toast" is false advertising. The whole meal was a letdown from start to finish. Bland, cheap-tasting, and clearly made with zero care or quality. This wasn't just a bad breakfast--it was borderline insulting. I will never eat here again, and I'd warn anyone else to keep their expectations low if they do. Total ripoff.

Yelp
I am a person who tries to avoid writing negative reviews because I feel that even great establishments can have bad days. I worked in a restaurant in college and I know how hard it can be. I try to find the good in every experience. (See my 5-star review of the DMV for an example.) Today I had such a bad experience that it inspired my only 1-star review of a restaurant. The Breakfast House lists its hours at 7am - 2pm. My friend and I arrived at 12:35 and ordered brunch. The server rushed to bring us a check while we were eating - which I paid right away so our server would get the 20%+ tip in case they were letting waitstaff go home towards the end of the shift. At 1pm, they started asking us aggressively if we needed to go boxes. Not once, not twice - FOUR TIMES. At 1:15, the server asked us if we were done and we said we were sipping coffee and finishing up. At 1:25, they *shut the lights off on us* and another waiter (not our waiter) told us that the manager told them to close and go home because it was not busy. He told us we were the last table and we needed to leave. He was NOT apologetic and rude as hell. This is a sit down restaurant. It is reasonable to expect that people will be there for ~an hour as they browse the menu, wait for their food, eat their food, and chat. We were seated at a regular lunch time (12:35) and we were thrown out more than 30 minutes before the restaurant was scheduled to close. It's one thing if you get hurried out the door if you sit down 10 minutes before closing time. This was not that. This was a man who made the dining experience miserable because he wanted to close more than 30 minutes early. If you have another option, don't go here. This wasn't an honest mistake over a food order. This person chose to be unnecessarily rude and pushy. This is a problem with how they treat their customers. Our bill *before tip* for two breakfast plates and one to go sandwich was $72. That is a lot of money to spend to get treated so poorly. I try to support local restaurants like this over the big chains, but next time we'll head to Denny's for better value and better service.

Yelp
The food and service was amazing. Portion , flavor was great. I believe our servers name was Martina.

Yelp
This place is adorable, and the food is delicious! I got the border Benedict and it was so amazing! I absolutely loved every bite. Everyone in our party ordered something different and every single person loved their food! Tomas was a great waiter, and I will definitely be back.

Yelp
Food was good, once we started eating a baby roach was crawling on our table and condiments. Poorly handled by restaurant. No manager was present in the restaurant, no one knew how to handle the situation or what to do. A can of roach spray was seen at the checkout counter and the woman said "they come in and spray all the time" so they know there's a problem. They said owner was there but left to Home Depot. Smh. If they came out in the middle of the day and crawled on the table I could just imagine the kitchen.

Yelp
If you are looking for home style comfort food this is the place! Huge menu with tons of choices and they are famous for their French toast! They do not serve alcohol here but there is a liquor store next door that they will allow you to pick up from and drink at your table. The cinnamon French toast is outstanding, even if you don't like French toast this was definitely a must try! The hash browns were excellent and cooked perfect! The gravy was flavorful and creamy. I really enjoyed the country Benedict it was absolutely delicious and really hit the spot. Service was fantastic and fast and they came over to refill our coffee plenty! Really cozy mom and pop environment, outstanding comfort food and 5 star service what more could you ask for?

Yelp
Good food! Good service. Good friends. This was delish. I had tried this dish at a restaurant at the Peppermill in Reno and said I would never order it again. However, this place made it look so good. And it did not disappoint!! This is fire!

Merna J.

Yelp
I've been to the breakfast house a couple of times and the breakfast house is clean and serves seriously tasty food. Everything came out fresh and hot, and you can tell they care about quality. The place was spotless, and the service was quick and friendly. Perfect for a simple, delicious start to your day.

Yelp
This is such a great place to grab breakfast in the El Cajon area!! The menu is reasonably priced and are a great match to the portion sizes, the food is flavorful and everything came out hot and fresh!! The service was quick and while we accidentally came in close to closing they still served us and gave us plenty of time to eat and not feel rushed although we did our best to not waste their time! Can't wait to come back and would definitely recommend this place for breakfast
google avatar

Yelp
Never Disappoints!!! The food is still delicious. We got sat within seconds and it was. Ice and quiet.

Yelp
THE FOOD IS SO YUMMY. amazing service fast and very friendly, the place is super clean and it makes you feel like you're eating at home. all the staff are super friendly and welcoming they always asked me if i needed anything else. the prices are so reasonable for the portions it's truly the best restaurant. i am really not understanding the bad reviews because my experience was 10/10.

Yelp
So nice we did it twice! Came here on consecutive days because we enjoyed it so much the 1st time. You walk into a classic American diner. There is plenty of seating inside and outside. The staff are all welcoming and nice. A good array of food choices from cinnamon french toast to Carne asada ranchero to corned beef and potatoes. The homemade salsa is SOOO good! The Carne asda has a great char on it. The cinnamon french toast is the perfect amount of sweet. Full disclosure; the Philly cheese steak omlette/scramble was good but not amazing. This place will definitely be a redo!
google avatar

Grace S.

Yelp
Everyone who served us was super nice! The homemade biscuit and gravy was super quality. I liked the sausage patties and eggs too. Everything tastes great, not too oily or salty. Lots of condiments on the table. Pretty nice bottomless coffee. They were so nice to let our dogs sit below the table. Portions were pretty filling too I think. We loved the French toast, too.
google avatar

Jean S.

Yelp
I just had the country with hashbrowns. I asked for eggs to be on the side, unfortunately that did not happen. It wasn't busy at all that I could excuse a simple request. The gravy and sausage looked appealing but lacked flavor - I love biscuits and gravy so it was rather bland to me. The ambiance was quaint with indoor and outdoor seating. At a glance it appeared clean and organized. This is just my first impression and was hoping for a better experience. I'll try something else next time to be fair and chance for an improved score.

Yelp
Great service very attentive server, food was excellent portions and delicious.location is prime right off the freeway. Definitely have the crusted French toast.
google avatar

Yelp
Looks like this review was also long overdue 7/2022. I can't remember too much about this place except for the fast service and delicious food. Checking some recent reviews on here I can still see they are doing an awesome job with great momentum. Time for return and see what has changed.
google avatar

Ed M.

Yelp
Bare bones type of establishment. The interior is pretty plain but the food makes up for it. I enjoyed the skillet I ordered and the biscuit I ate tasted freshly baked. This is a bit off the path but El Cajon has a good breakfast/brunch spot.

Toby C.

Yelp
Food was wrong . The service / host . said nothing they can do . And the ambiance does not feel like it used too.
google avatar

April K.

Yelp
The food was yummy but service was okay. The highlight for me was the bathroom....it was SO CLEAN.
google avatar

Deshaun S.

Yelp
Love this place , been going for years, change owners a few a times but always maintained great service, great food, always quick, fresh & so good! However a little cup of coffee should not be over $3.00!! I know everything high priced in America right now but sheesh!!!! Other than that my kids love it, I love it , great job!! Waiter Karina super nice , helpful great family spot good food!!
google avatar

Esther M.

Yelp
Food was affordable and tasted great! Ambiance is family friendly and the staff is super friendly. They are VERY busy on Sundays. The Border Benedict is so tasty , Chilaquiles and the biscuits and gravy were flavorful!!
google avatar

Heather M.

Yelp
Food was great! Good sized portions for the cost. Service was amazing. Locally owned. SUPPORT LOCAL!!! Will definitely be back.
google avatar

Yelp
Saturday morning, hasbrowns were barely cooked. My moms, my fiances and my kids food were cold. Definitely last time coming here. No manager on site to discuss issues. Staff deflected the situation.
google avatar

Brianna L.

Yelp
Pros: * Delicous food; recommend the biscuits and Gravy * Simple breakfast place; no fuss * Warm friendly Attentive service Cons: * N/A Extra: * Outdoor seating available * Relaxed and casual atmosphere
google avatar

Toree L.

Yelp
Overpriced with no alternative options such as gluten free or non dairy. The food is conventionally grown. At least the waiters are friendly!
google avatar

Jessica A.

Yelp
No pictures of the food- service was so quick and was so good I ate everything! I got the Country Benedict because I had a craving for biscuits and gravy and hashbrowns. Not too many places have hashbrowns, they have some and herb potatoes too. My partner got the Athenian skillet which has gyro meat and Greek style over potatoes and topped with eggs. The server Kyla was really nice and we also got our drinks and everything so fast. She chatted with us a bit complimenting on my partner's 1981 shirt I saw lots of families and couples. They have booth seating, outdoor area and tables. Bright and clean inside. We'd come back when we're in town!
google avatar

Yelp
This has become one of our favorite places to eat breakfast, good prices, friendly people and great service
google avatar

Yelp
This place is a little gem. Everything is always awesome, great food, service is top notch and drinks are never left empty. If you're looking for a great new place to try I'd highly recommend The Breakfast House!
google avatar

Shania A.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this place while waiting to get my car smogged. I've passed it multiple times on my commute but never had time. Today I did and I am glad. When you walk in it feels like you're in an old school diner. The service and staff are really friendly and personable. Answer all of the questions you may have. Very attentive. I ordered the corned beef hash with toast and it was phenomenal. My server let me know that they make their corned beef in house and you can definitely tell by the flavor profile. I'm drooling thinking about it now. Big portions for a cheap price. I will definitely be coming back again.
google avatar

Anna U.

Yelp
Omg! The crusted French toast is the BEST IN TOWN! Yummm! The people here are always friendly, attentive and engaging! You're treated like family and the coffee is delicious! Christina, Edgar and the entire staff are always attentive and make you feel like you're at home with the delicious breakfast no matter what day of the week. I love coming here with my family! I can't get enough of this place and will continue to come here always. Thank you for all you do!!
google avatar

Tawnia S.

Yelp
Came here after our sons graduation. They were pretty busy, so we figured we'd get a good meal. We hadn't been here for years, since it first opened. They server and staff were nice and very friendly. The food, however, was a huge disappointment. Not a single one of us really cared for what we got. The chorizo was odd, the gravy was bland. Idk, there was just something very unsatisfactory about all of it.
google avatar

Chad M.

Yelp
Just had a quick stop in at the Breakfast house. Sara was my waitress. Very nice place. Had the steak and eggs and couldn't be happier. Sara was great and great service. Thank you Sara and Breakfast House for a great breakfast. Will be back soon
google avatar

Tania C.

Yelp
Busy place on Sundays, and it was good. You get a good amount of food and the service was good as well. The main reason why I am giving 3 star is because my omelet was a bit on the greasy side. I know that fats can improve the taste of food but when I see oil on my plate, uhmmm I don't like it much. Nevertheless, if you are in the area, give them a try. It is possible that you get a better experience. happy meals!
google avatar

Frank F.

Yelp
I want to like this place I really do. The ambience is breakfasty and the service is good enough, I have only been here mid week early so I haven't seen the weekend rush. The food is well, food. Not particularly well made but it's food. The toast isn't toasted, the hash browns are way undercooked as if they just sat next to the grill. The omelette was dry and the eggs scorched. The omelette was the star of the plate but it was so over cooked, burned, that it was thick tough and flavorless. Ketchup was invented to rescue this food. I've eaten here a few times and marveled at how the chef could be so completely clueless, the place was not crowded so busy is not an excuse. Imagine being a chef in a breakfast restaurant that can't cook an egg but you don't have to imagine it, just come here!
google avatar

Tara H.

Yelp
Great place for families. My husband and I like to split the veggie omelette - add bacon. Servers are always attentive and happy to bring whatever you need. The inside of the restaurant is clean and well kept.
google avatar

John K.

Yelp
Food was fair and not what I ordered and the waitress argued with me and would not change or make it right. So much for customer service. We had been looking for a new breakfast spot. Not sure this is it. Maybe try once more as we give everyone the benefit of the doughy once. Ambiance is nice and a clean place.
google avatar

Tony A.

Yelp
Quality over quantity I spent $35. I got two small biscuits a slather of gravy, two sunny side up eggs, two pieces of bacon all this for $35 oh and let me not forget. I did get a small and I mean they gave me a small cup of coffee Generic wrapping the whole thing was generic but $35 that's a bit much. I do have to say the food was very tasteful very small but tasteful.
google avatar

darrick y.

Yelp
Finally tried the breakfast house after living in the area for a couple years. Best decision ever, I'm not sure what took me so long. Interior was super cute, clean and relaxing. Went on a Monday morning and was still pretty busy. The food, great, large portions for the price and the flavors were just right. If you are in the Santee / El Cajon area you must try. Recommendations: liquor license to serve Mimosas on the weekend.

Yelp
Wow, we haven't had service this BAD in a looooong time! Food was mediocre, at best. That's being nice. Quality of this place has gone waaaay down. First off, I know many restaurants are short-handed due to the pandemic and loss of staff. I'm conscious of this and understand longer waits. What I don't understand is staff having a bad attitude and acting like you are INCONVENIENCING THEM for being there. From the moment we walked in, the manager at the front was rude. Attitude for no reason. We were quoted 5-10 mins by the host. Then told rudely by the manager it would actually be 20 mins and that the host was wrong because she's new. No sorry. No kindness about the mistake. Didn't get seated for 40 mins. Host never brought the kids crayons even though we asked a couple times, I had to go get them myself. When seated, the only decent employee, the peppy bus-boy (man), got our drinks quickly and happily. He was the only staff member who smiled our whole time there. Took the server over 15 mins to greet us. When she finally arrived, she was cold and very unfriendly taking our order. We nicely asked if our twin babies could have some crackers or a banana to munch on while the food was cooking because they were very hungry. She said, "I can put in a bowl of fruit and it should come first". It didn't. Food didn't take too long, but that $7 bowl of fruit came at the same time as our meal. Pointless. Told her we wanted it first, server didn't explain or apologize. She left it on the check. It should have been removed since it was so late. But we didn't complain. Food, like I said, wasn't great. Hubby's chicken fried steak was worst he's ever had. Pancakes were dry and not fluffy. My club sandwich was blah. Gross sourdough. 18% gratuity was included. So no wonder the staff sucks. Lol Should just go to Dennys. Food and service there is by far and away better! @dennys Rancho SD, Barb is the best! heela.tucker@gmail.com heela.tucker@gmail.com heela.tucker@gmail.com her

Yelp
Really good. I drove down to help my son and saw this place. When I drove up I saw many seats outside, chairs for waiting. This is always a good sign. At 7am there are a lot of people, second good sign. Third, the Huevos Rancheros is Really good, the sauce has lots of flavor and doesn't need any extra hot sauce. A+ for a breakfast place. Service is very good! Must try! I'll be back

Christopher K.

Yelp
Excellent food , wonderful staff & great outdoor area! We enjoyed our time there. It had that wonderful atmosphere you expect for a breakfast house!
google avatar

Scot H.

Yelp
Stopped by here after a good hike with my dog. Everything was excellent. Homemade corned beef hash is delicious. A lot of seating outside with plenty of room for the pup. Service was very fast & friendly. Outstanding.

Jake M.

Yelp
Horrible service. We were sat down and the male waiter sat us down and only asked what to drink. Waited for 20 minutes for waiter to come back and he was just goofing off with other staff laughing and chatting. Finally a different server came and asked if we had been assisted. The food was overpriced, small, and they charged 5 dollars for 3 slices of extra avocado. They didn't even get us silverware and we had wait another 20 minutes after we were served to get utensils.

Yelp
Came Xmas Eve around 11am they weren't that busy . I ordered a waffle plain for my son and a kids egg bacon and toast . I ordered a similar plate as the eggs bacon and toast just the adult version . The food wait time took a while and when the female server brought us our food she didn't know where the plates went , so she gave my daughter my plate and me the kids plate and forgot the toast on one plate and told me to put it on the other, and she will bring another toast . She also acknowledged the waffle was not made correctly and said another one is being made to replace it but it never was . She was just very spaced out and not mindful of anything. I made sure she didn't charge me for that waffle and I didn't leave a tip the service was bad the food was not good my potatoes were cold and I was so ready to just leave that place . Also people who came after us were being helped and their food was coming out faster . But we had a long wait time and our food was cold .

Yelp
Great service and the food is great. Classic breakfast food with a few special dishes if you would rather try something new.

Limni G.

Yelp
Bad service. food is now overpriced, which I understand inflation. But the price increase at this pace is ridiculous, drinks were never refilled only saw our server twice the whole time we were there and it wasn't even busy, sad because this used to be our breakfast spot.

Yelp
If you're looking for a breakfast spot that makes you feel at home, this place is it. My boyfriend and I go here every Sunday and it never disappoints. The food is so comforting and the staff is always so kind. My go-to is the country Benedict, which is a biscuit topped with a sausage patty, eggs, and gravy. I literally get it every time unless they have something on their weekly special that catches my eye. My boyfriend likes to order the corned beef hash breakfast! Their cinnamon roll French toast is also to die for, a guilty pleasure whenever we order it!!

Yelp
This is another one of the great breakfast spots in east county. Simple menu, great service, familiar clientele, consistently good eats. I have eggs and bacon, hash browns, and buttermilk biscuits. For an extra $1.50 I added gravy to my biscuits and was a great choice. The biscuits soft a d fresh a d the gravy creamy and not greasy. Eggs over medium paired well with crispy bacon and hash browns made tender with a golden crust. Add coffee and were out of there for about $12. Might I add that Brittany is a super star - kind, efficient, attentive.....service with a smile. Highly recommend if you're looking for comfort food breakfast and great service.
