Breakfast Republic Bringing Brunch Vibes to La Jolla - Eater San Diego

"Breakfast Republic is opening a new location in downtown La Jolla, featuring a cozy 1,800-square-foot space with a 250-square-foot patio, seating approximately 75. Known for its morning fare and brunch cocktails, it's set to open in early February 2021." - Candice Woo

Always the best service from start to finish. The chemistry between the servers is top tier. Food is always great. I rotate between the Crab&Crawfish Cake Benedict and a few others but no matter what I always get the Jurassic Pork or Asiago Chicken Fennel as a side! The fresh squeezed orange juice is my favorite. They also have a great drink menu for those brunch days!

Google
Everything, food, service, and casual environment, about Breakfast Republic was great. Lance was our server and recommended his positive attitude and friendly nature. The female host was also helpful. This photo is the dessert pancake. Yes, that's correct, dessert for breakfast or lunch 😉. Only potential con, parking is limited during peak hours.

Google
A nice place to pass by for breakfast, very homey restaurant that offers a variety of foods on their menu. The service was really nice and the food was good. They serve homemade tomato sauce and hot sauce on their tables and they are pretty unique, would recommend to pass by for breakfast!

We came here on a road trip stop as we had heard good things about it. It was quiet when we came so there were tables available. We were served by Alex M who was amazing and recommended some great food to us as we couldn’t choose. The food was SO GOOD. I had the 2 veggie breakfast tostadas and my friends had shrimp and ricotta frittata, bacon pancakes and another pancakes. We all enjoyed the food so much. I also had the bottomless strawberry lemonade which was INCREDIBLE, I would recommend to try this. My two other friends ordered the Oreo cookie lattes which I tried and that was also really good. Overall it was a great experience, amazing food, amazing service. If I lived close by I would come back again. Also really good vegeterian and vegan options, there’s a section which shows all the vegan options.

We didn't have to wait for a table on a Sunday afternoon, which was surprising. I visited the restaurant twice in a week. The food was good. I tried the Chilaquiles, the breakfast toastadas, SD Benedict and the protein scramble. Loved the crispy potatoes! It's a cute little spot for breakfast with a great variety of vegetarian options too. Parking can be tricky.

Google
Potatoes are crispy and delicious…the best part of the menu. Food is overall good, nothing spectacular over the top. Sauces are unique for sure; positive of course. The Chicken Fennel Omelette was clean, but nothing to travel far for, as it was not packed deep with the fillings. The hot sauce definitely has a kick….spicer than you expect. Ketchup is more tangy as well. Felt like a place that tries to be different than “the status quo breakfast” place with its one liner advertisements and different vibe, but in the end, that is all that separates it….not the food. Still, I would recommended this place for its location and stable food at least. Prices are not atrocious either.

Google
Looking for a place to eat breakfast in La Jolla well this one is right on Pearl. The toughest thing is finding parking. We had the eggs Benedict which was good but could have been hotter when it came to the table. Great service from the staff which can be rare these days.

Michael Kenning

Google
This is our third or fourth time eating here and the food is excellent. It’s on a busy street and outside seating is next to the road/intersection so be aware it is noisy in the morning. The service was good but they seemed short staffed as our table help was hard to find.

Yelp
This place has quickly become one of my favorite breakfast spots! The food is amazing, but what keeps me coming back is the outstanding service and staff. I've had Grant as my server three times now, and he's honestly the most attentive and exceptional server I've ever had. I have a lot of dietary restrictions, and he always goes out of his way to help me customize a meal that's both delicious and perfectly tailored to my needs. I'll definitely be coming back!

Yelp
This was a cute breakfast spot we found in La Jolla. The line wasn't too long when we arrived. It was a little windy outside, so we opted to sit inside. Service was friendly and quick. I ordered a Mexican mocha, which was delicious. It comes with whipped cream on top. For my main entrée, I ordered the avocado toast. It was just the right portion more on the small side if you're not hungry, this would be a perfect option. On the side I got the vegan Tres Leche pancakes. They were delicious as well as very filling. They come with vegan whipped cream and strawberries on top. There's plenty of seating inside and out on the patio you can sit and watch the cars go by or people watch. Looks like lots of the locals come here. When I'm in the area again I would definitely come back here!.

Yelp
Breakfast game is outrageous. Little waiting time, staff is friendly and kind, food is amazing, and prices are reasonable for all the amenities. Currently trying out the entire menu. Breakfast pancake flight one (not pictured) felt the most worth for food, but personally loved the shrimp frittata/omelette! (pictured!)

Yelp
I mean what do you look for when visiting a new (to you) food establishment? Great Food Great Atmosphere Great Drinks Great Service Great Location Well there you have it. Breakfast Republic has it all!!
google avatar

Tatiana H.

Yelp
The food was OK, I ordered the American breakfast and although I asked for my eggs cooked hard they weren't and my sausage still had a bit of pink on it so I didn't eat it. My friends had to doctor up their breakfast burrito with all the sauces and seasonings available on the table. The customer service was good everyone was friendly and welcoming no complaints there. But I've been to other locations of this restaurant and the food was way better.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is so adorable! We ordered the brioche French toast, crawfish cake Benedict and their coffee. I loved the brioche, it was classic and not too sweet, it was the perfect balance. The Benedict was really unique, especially with the jam component. I'm glad I tried it as it was tasty and definitely a surprisingly good combo. I really liked their potatoes too. The coffee was great as well. Overall a good experience at breakfast republic.

Yelp
Came with a party of 7 on Sunday around noon. The wait was about 40 minutes which wasn't bad especially for a Sunday and our group size. Parking wasn't too much of a hassle, just might need to walk a block or so unless you get lucky and find one around the corner. There is a small amount of indoor and outdoor seating, but we got seated outdoors which was nice. Service was better than expected and our food came out surprisingly quick. I ordered the Protein Lover Scramble which was pretty filling even though it looked like a small portion on the huge plate. The jam and whatever whipped butter or cream they had that comes with the side of bread was probably my favorite part LOL My friends ordered the burritos and they all said it was good as well. I would probably come back another day to try something new!
google avatar

Monica E.

Yelp
I got the keto protein bowl and it actually filled me up a lot. And I got the cinnamon pancake and it was so yummy. The chilaquiles was on point as well. The Benedict's were yummy too. Everything was yummy. The service was great and fast. We went on a Monday morning so it wasn't too busy yet but it was nice.

Yelp
We came as a group of six and sampled various dishes. The standout was definitely the shrimp & grits, with gouda and sweet corn--it was outstanding in both flavor and texture. We also tried the crab and crawfish eggs Benedict, a power bowl, and the tres leches pancakes. While all the dishes were solid, the grits stole the show. The coffee was also nice. Overall, a great spot for breakfast!

Yelp
We had a great breakfast at Breakfast Republic in La Jolla! Joanelle, our server, was quick and very kind. We're usually fast eaters, so we ordered coffee and our meals together. Everything was delicious--the potatoes, in particular, were phenomenal, perfectly cooked instead of soggy like at some other places. I ordered the American breakfast, and my friend had the burrito, which looked amazing. While I debated between the two, the American breakfast was still very good. Our bill came to under $50, and since it was my birthday, the waitress surprised us with their famous cinnamon ginger cake. We'll definitely be back!

Yelp
We ordered the French toast to share for an appetizer. Our favorite was the banana split French toast so good! We sat on the patio and it was nice and cool. We had a dog so it was nice to be able to have our pup and eat too. Two people ordered the chilaquiles. They love them. I ordered the omelette with sausage and bacon. It was tasty, but the bacon was small and crumbled. I prefer my bacon to be thick and cut in large pieces. My daughter ordered the eggs Benedict with the thick bacon. And that was really good. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Yelp
Food was lacking here for some reason.. It was big portions per usual. The atmosphere, casual, average noise, kinda cold. Lol. It's a mix of indoor &outdoor seating. The bathroom& inside booths seems like you're walking through the service station cause it's in the back. Service was okay. But it was pretty busy& seemed like really one server. The bottomless Cafe De Olla didn't need any creamer, it was perfectly sweet itself. The steak was suppose to be medium well, but it was a little overcooked. Over welldone, so it was a bit dry, the chimchurri didn't help. The French toast was good, needed extra syrup though. But that was prob a personal preference lol.

Yelp
Simply put, Breakfast Republic has got to be one of my favorite breakfast places in San Diego. From the food to the service, I love everything about this restaurant. I frequent the La Jolla location often, not only because the food is good, but also because of the staff. While I unfortunately do not know her name, but one particular staff member always remembers me and makes me feel at home. Greeted with a lovely welcome and conversations about how we are, these interactions alone make me want to come back. Now onto the food, it is one of my favorites spots for breakfast in San Diego. My go to is the Cluck Madame. This is a version of an eggs Benedict that is absolutely yummy! Served with perfectly seasoned house potatoes, I find it hard choosing something else to eat. The strawberry cheesecake pancakes is another one of my go to. It's a nice balance of sweet and fresh and fruity. I have tried other people's dishes here and needless to say, everything that I have tried is so good! This is a great place for breakfast or brunch and how the place is decorated makes you feel like you're in a cozy breakfast nook. I 5/5 recommend this place!
google avatar

Catrina R.

Yelp
Breakfast republic is just so damn good. Every location including this one is always a 5/5. There's something on the menu for everyone. This time we tried their seasonal rhubarb and strawberry latte. Sheer perfection! Had their cluck madame and as always it was wonderful. Highly recommend, as I do with all their locations, to try the Jurassic pork. Also for a big brain move ask for your potatoes to be crispy! Please note they don't do reservations here so if you're coming on the weekend expect a wait. There's a small parking lot nearby but highly recommend getting street parking in the neighborhood nearby. Service was fast and friendly.

Yelp
Came here to pass time early morning. Soon as I walked in, I was asked if I wanted a cup of coffee. Yes please. Ty! Kayla was my server and she was phenomenal. Made great recommendations and was super attentive despite it becoming busy as I was there. Had the burrito and it was delicious. Really appreciated Kayla and her warm personality.

Yelp
Continues to be my #1 choice for vegan breakfast. This time the Jammin' Bennies and a Bloody Mary. Excellent!
google avatar

Nathalie B.

Yelp
Breakfast Republic exceeded all expectations! The food was delicious, and the service was impeccable. A special shoutout to Michelle, who provided exceptional service throughout our brunch experience. We tried the keto bowl along with the Jurassic Pork, and both dishes were absolutely delightful. Can't wait to come back for another visit! Highly recommended for anyone looking for a fantastic brunch spot.

Yelp
i love breakfast republic and i've been going here since i was little. so much to choose from for everyone! today, the service was pretty slow and didn't bring us our food for 45 mins-1 hour after we ordered and we were starving. I understand It was a busy Sunday around noon but we still expected to be served quicker. Breakfast republic is such a fun breakfast spot but if you can go to another location i would suggest that because the space is very small and they don't take any resos.
google avatar

Yelp
Enjoyed the Breakfast Republic at the Mira Mesa location so decided to try this location since I was in the area. Service was impeccable! Our server was Kaylie, and she was so friendly. Thank you Kaylie for your awesome service! The ambiance was nice. There were beautiful decorations and company swag for purchase lining the interior. They also had indoor and outdoor seating options so that's nice .. there was also zero wait wait when we went around 1130 on a Friday morning so we must've just beat the lunch rush. Food was delicious! And very filling. My friend and I wanted both sweet and savory so we picked the two dishes in the pics below and shared them. Perfect amount and we both went home stuffed! They also have some unique coffee options if you're a coffee fan. The only thing that's rough about this restaurant is the parking. It's only street parking so if you tried to come on a weekend or "busy" time it might be smarter to carpool. Didn't see any meters though, I found one on the side street and my friend found one across the street with a 3 hour parking limit sign.

Peter A.

Yelp
Great breakfast, friendly service. We loved the unique design of mugs and plates and the house made, slightly spicy ketchup was our favorite with the food. We came early and it was quiet but I bet it would get loud in there eventually. Ticked the box for what we were in the mood for and we would come back.
google avatar

Yelp
Cute corner location caught my eye as we were walking by. I stopped and looked at the menu and was greeted by a friendly smile. The waitress was super nice and helpful. I ordered the breakfast bacon Mac n cheese with poached eyes. If you want to try something new and flavorful and love Mac n cheese. Try this. I also ordered the strawberry cheesecake pancake because I wanted something sweet. Its presentation looked delicious but unfortunately I'm too full to try it now. I'll wait til I get home .
google avatar

Yelp
So i'm a guy who not only thinks breakfast is the most important meal of the day but it's the actual best meal of the day. I was so excited to try this place because the menu looked amazing. When we got there in the morning we had to wait 5 minutes outside.Because there was nobody there to seat us. They may have been busy, so I'll let that slide. But once we were seated we waited even longer to receive drinks and place our orders. The waitress looked like she was tired being there. But hey we all have those days. Honestly.Sometimes I couldn't care less about the service or price of food if the food is really really good. In this case everything was below average. The pancakes were dry and the eggs were so so. The best part about the experience was the syrup holder. Ohh the did have a mimosa. That's why they get 3 stars. I atleast left with a buzz.
google avatar

Amy N.

Yelp
This place is cute! Staff was very friendly. The food was good, they give good portions. The potatoes were cooked a bit too much but everything was good.

Emily H.

Yelp
We live coming to Breakfast Republic and always get wonderful service and wonderful food and coffees! We're usually served by Alex and he is always very welcoming and helpful. Absolutely recommend, it's our favorite breakfast spot in the area! Thank you!!
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing! This is my girlfriend and ours favorite spot, we try coming here once a month. Especially when Alex is there, we get great service and great vibes.
google avatar

Yelp
We can't get enough of this place! My favorite is t Mr. Presley, it's completely delicious! My son loves their mac'n cheese as well. Also, you gotta try their Sea Salt Iced Latte! The serice and staff was excellent.

Tony T.

Yelp
Breakfast burrito with Mexican rice and black beans were on the average. Service was good.
google avatar

Meshel L.

Yelp
although this location's far from where i live, i tend to come here whenever i'm in the area because i love the variety and the quality of the food. the service is fast as well and all the staff here are super friendly. i have never been on a weekend but whenever i'm here on a weekday, getting seated is super quick too. i will die on a hill for their smores french toast. as a girl with a big sweet tooth, it's delicious and warm and very filling. a bit on the messier side but there's no judgement eating something this delicious. the chilaquiles were amazing as well, but i wished there were more of the tortilla chips and less of the other add ons on the plate. every item on their menu looks and smells delicious too once you come in, and i hope to try more of their items soon!
google avatar

Angela D.

Yelp
I have eaten here twice now when visiting La Jolla and both times I was left disappointed. The menu has a good variety of egg dishes, pancakes and French toast, it is very family friendly and the staff is friendly, all things that justify the three stars. The problem is the food. I ordered the Crab Benedict and the dish is not presented in a very appetizing way: the crab cakes are small, have a weird color and the flavor is not great. The potatoes are overcooked and not fresh from the stove, with a taste that makes me think the oil is old, and today they were definitely on the cold side. Being a breakfast place, in La Jolla, I would have hoped for better tea and cappuccino, but that is not the case: why serve Stash Tea?
google avatar

Alexandria R.

Yelp
We went for brunch and I would tell anyone that asked this is a good spot to eat. It felt a little crowded where we were sitting but there seemed to be booth seating as well in a different area. Due to wind there was no outside dining which was unfortunate but completely understandable. The menu seemed to have options for anyone including vegetarian options. The food was liked by everyone I ate with. I personally had an omelette, I thought the mixins were well balanced and the potatoes on the side were nice and crispy. My one complaint was that because it was full the server was understandably busy which didn't impact our service but another staff member was a bit passive aggressive to him on the floor. She said something along the lines to the table next to us "I will bus your table for you and get these plates out of the way since he (referring to the waiter) hasn't done it yet. It was just not the time or place to say that at 11 am people want to enjoy their outing not witness unnecessary cattiness. It was a place in San Diego to get a brunch without the hassle of the big crowds of the places seen on social media. This place was busy though, we had to wait about 10 minutes for a table so not too bad.
google avatar

Tyler F.

Yelp
Alex M was an awesome server! Put up with us and gave us a super good time as well as gave us suggestions on nearby thrifting. The food was spectacular. I got the strawberry cheesecake pancakes and eggs with the cafe de olla coffee (exemplary coffee). Definitely coming back when I am in town!! The restaurant itself has a really awesome atmosphere as well, right near the coast.
google avatar

Ian S.

Yelp
Ya know, food was decent. They took care to customize my wife's order. The menu reads better than the actual food but the people were so nice and I really like the idea of a full-bar breakfast place. (All I had was a shot of Bailey's in my coffee!) Am I seeing that this place is a chain? I can see that now but it seemed like a cute one-off place with more personality than I would have thought a chain capable of. In fact, we were just walking along with no intention of stopping for breakfast but this place seemed like a nice place to hang for awhile and we did.
google avatar

Yelp
Kayla is my all-time favorite server / human being in the restaurant / city / universe. I came for jambalaya, I'll be back for HER. Bless this goddess.

Yelp
Awesome atmosphere! They were able to seat us right away, service was great and the food was delicious! Also had a Tajin mimosa that was quite tasty!

A. C.

Yelp
Great breakfast food, there are outdoor tables and we loved our server Alex! The Brussel Sprouts upgrade for potatoes is worth it!

aaron c.

Yelp
Very professional. Fairly quick but friendly. Lots of fresh air indoors and out. On a somewhat busy street. Good vibes. Portions are big if you include the pile of crisped potatoes that comes with many dishes. Food is good and pretty much what you expect in an American breakfast.

Reyna P.

Yelp
Highly recommend!!!! Food is SO GOOD. Lots of vegan options for those who try to avoid dairy. Portions are very large! My husband and I could've easily split one plate. They allowed me to sub my rice/beans for the Vegan Tres Leche pancakes. So goooood! I couldn't even tell if was dairy free. Service was quick. Waitress was super friendly and helpful.

Yelp
In SoCal, Breakfast Republic is a staple. Newly added to the list of It's ambassadors is their La Jolla location, which sits, like a pearl, right on Pearl Street. Accessory to any BR is It's sister syndicate, Eggies, packed with full bold flavor, just like every BR site. The food at BR is light and adeptly flavored, capturing that Mexican- American fusion at the heart of what makes San Diego local food unique and It's own kind of flavourful. Fresh diced tomatoes, generous avocado helpings, simply flavored beans with fresh punches of citrus make these dishes standout. Sweet options like chocolate drizzled French toast with fresh cut strawberries, stacked chocolate chocolate chip pancakes and vegan breakfast tostadas and eggs benedict, all freshly flavored and hearty, make this spot standout. A great spot in the heart of the jewel, la jolla, newly opened, with touches of farm-style rooster renditions and nick-nack salt, pepper and syrup style table accessories, generous mahogany lacquered tables and the option to eat family style add to the feeling of farm and rustic chicken "chique". Fun and tasty spot!
google avatar

Natalia M.

Yelp
was my first time trying this place out and it was so good!! Cleared the plate in like 5 minutes this place does get super busy so just be prepared to wait a little. Worth the wait in my opinion! also love the outdoor / indoor vibe this location has! this entire block has amazing restaurants, you can't go wrong!
google avatar

Dana O.

Yelp
Visited San Diego and made sure we visited this place! The food was impeccable, the ambience was great, the windows were all open and the staff was incredibly sweet. They offer bottomless strawberry lemonade which I opted in for and it was absolutely delightful. Since it's so busy during brunch, we didn't mind the wait. For me, I didn't mind the windows being open, however I felt like it was an issue that so many flies were flying right at our table and landing on everything. :( Other than that, the brussels sprouts alone will be the reason that brings me back. :,)
google avatar

Cirwan S.

Yelp
Was told many great things about breakfast Republic but I never because I'm not a "Breakfast Guy" so I decided to keep it simple. I got 3 varieties of pancakes and they all tasted amazing! My buddy got their classic eggs, hash browns, and bacon so I was able to eat some of his! My other buddy got their chilaquiles with eggs and that was also tasty! Service was nice and friendly! Definitely coming back to try something else other than pancakes! Can't wait !

Yelp
What a disappointing experience. Considering this is one of my favorite restaurants, this location just was not up to par. I don't generally like writing negative reviews, but I am writing this in hopes that someone will fix it. I was seated at a non-busy time during the week, and there were enough servers and a lot of open tables and it still took 10 minutes for the server to approach me and take my order. I ordered breakfast and a cup of coffee. My coffee never came. I could not flag my waitress down. I was honestly ready to walk out when my food arrived. And then my coffee. The coffee was lukewarm at best. I told the waitress and decided to skip. On top of this, the food was not correct (the potatoes were not upgraded). They took my plate back and brought it back fairly quickly. But other than the potatoes, the food was cold. Not even lukewarm. Cold. I was over it at that point and could not even get my waitresses attention to get the check and leave. Ridiculous.

Yelp
New Years Day.... Even after spending 24 dollars on a bottle of Brut and a small amount of orange juice, they will change you 3 dollars if you ask for more orange juice. I ended up paying 4.50 for a glass of orange. On a side note the bottle of Brut they give you cost 5 bucks at the store which means they got it cheaper...
google avatar

Brenda C.

Yelp
Great breakfast spot... I enjoyed eggs Benedict with bacon and avocado, amazing! My coffee was cafe de olla, really hit the spot. Yummy food.
google avatar

Anna V.

Yelp
Food is amazing, ambience is creative and welcoming, and the staff make this place that much better! Joanelle, the general manager is passionate at keeping all guest happy and making the establishment run smoothly leaving guests feeling welcomed and wanting to return. The mushroom pesto Benedict is a MUST try especially with Jurassic pork bacon added. The Brussel potatoes are fantastic aswell. Alex is an amazing bartender and the boozy brew shot (their version of an espresso martini) tasted wonderful. Do yourself a favor and come here for brunch/breakfast!

m. y.

Yelp
Place is great. Excellent food and drinks, and the best service I've had in a few years. Been there 3 times. My daughter gets the Presley French toast and I get the Jurassic Benedict. And Mitch's next door! The street can be loud on weekends because of guys revving their cars and motorcycles for the line at Taco Stand, so sit inside if that's too much for you lol
google avatar

Sarah K.

Yelp
I cane here with my classmates during finals week last quarter and tbh the food here is soooo mid. I don't get why people hype up breakfast republic. The only good thing they have is service. Our server was super nice & made sure to check on us frequently and helped answer any questions we had and even made some suggestions on what to order. But even with the suggestions, the food was soooo bland, hot sauce and salt couldn't fix it LOL. The place is hella cute tho not gonna lie. I love the inside--it's very bright and the windows bring in a lot of natural lighting. Also note that you have to park in the side streets bcuz there isn't really any parking. 3 stars is for the service & vibes here, otherwise food ain't it.
google avatar

Yelp
The Bloody Mary was good, but that vegan breakfast burrito needs lots of work. Zero flavor!

Yelp
I was excited to try this artisan breakfast fare, but the experience turned out to be a nightmare due to poor sanitation... When my table was dirty & not cleaned prior to me being seated, this should have been a major red flag for me. However, I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and continue with the meal. Then, when I asked for a glass of ice water and took a sip, it tasted horrible! I wondered what in the world was going on? As I looked at the glass, there were lipstick marks on one side and the glass was stained with greasy fingerprints on the other side, among other signs that they didn't even wash the glass before serving a new customer! It was absolutely disgusting!! The coup de gras began 5 minutes after finishing the meal when the most painful stomach cramps that I have ever experienced in my life set in... I had to go into work immediately after breakfast, but to my dismay my bowels could not wait. I had to pull over and usurp a gas station bathroom for 30 minutes as the entire contents of my colon were discharged in an episode of the worst diarrhea one could possibly imagine! The remainder of the day consisted of intense stomach cramps, diarrhea on the hour every hour, and severe dehydration... My message to Management is to enforce hand washing, personally monitor dishwashing with soap & hot water, and ensure that tables are cleaned properly. We work hard for our money, and a wasted breakfast and loss of income due to lack of sanitation-borne illness really affects people adversely, especially during these inflationary times. Not good... This location should be renamed Dysentery Republic!
