Breakfast Republic Reveals Brunch Spinoff in North Park | Eater San Diego

"Growing rapidly, the Breakfast Republic morning-eats empire operates eight locations across San Diego and Orange County; its flagship in North Park draws heavy crowds, which partly motivated Engman to open a separate, differently programmed brunch concept nearby." - Candice Woo

Google
I had such an amazing experience at Breakfast Republic. The food was absolutely delicious — seriously, every bite was incredible. The service was excellent as well; everyone was super friendly and attentive. We didn’t even have to wait long to get seated, which was a great surprise. Overall, everything was so good, and I highly recommend this place. It’s definitely worth a visit!

We recently hosted an event in the private room at Breakfast Republic, North Park, and it was truly perfect. The space is beautiful, fun, and comfortably fits groups up to about 22 people , ideal for celebrations. This was our Fitness Team! The food was absolutely delicious (as always!), and the service made the experience even better. Our server, Colin, was incredible — attentive, kind, and on top of every detail. If you’re looking for a private spot with great energy, amazing food, and outstanding service, this room is a fantastic choice. Highly recommend!

Google
Really tasty breakfast! Their classic eggs Benedict always hits the spot, and I loved trying their iced ube latte which was flavorful and well-balanced, not too sweet. Their plates and mugs have cute decorations and jokes. Nice atmosphere with lots of seating inside and outside.

Updated Review: Thank you for the response. However, I’m not sure how bringing up my mother or grandmother is appropriate when it was not mentioned in the food review post as they were not there nor part of this solo experience. It comes across as blaming my poor dining experience on what was going on in my personal life disguised as sympathy or altruism at best. If necessary, it would have been included in my original post. As for the food arriving cold, and the burrito being chewy, this was communicated within the first few bites upon receiving the food. As mentioned previously, my server was as attentive as possible, but was not able to meet my immediate needs due to the business of the restaurant and lack of support. I did not wait until the burrito was enjoyed to inform Jess, but rather when Jess was finally available and noticed me trying to get her attention. For clarity, it was not after the burrito was enjoyed as it was not enjoyable. The plate still had a whole half of a burrito that was not eaten. The beans, and the rice which were also not eaten because they were cold including the replacement beans and rice which were warmer, but unfortunately I was no longer interested in completing my meal. FAVORITE BREAKFAST PLACE! Let me start by saying breakfast republic is my favorite breakfast chain in San Diego! From the uniqueness of the menu, to the well crafted drinks, this place has something on the menu that everyone will love! So I wanted to love this place, and keep loving it if you know what I mean— Super disappointed in my experience! I’ve been using the walkabout app and if you are an insider, they often have FREE breakfast republic offers specifically for this location. Overall, I’ve had a decent experience. But today I was pretty let down. The server, Jess, had her hands full. She got quadruple sat on a Thursday at lunch time. It is normally slow during this time, however today was a solid lunch rush. When I walked in, I had to call for her attention (which you have to do this with every breakfast republic every time so that was normal), and she happened to be literally the only server and host in the entire restaurant inside and outside. All things considered, she did a good job of being as attentive to guest as much as possible. The Disappointment: The food took forever to come out and when it did, my food came out cold. When I told the server, she offered to remake part of the plate, but not the entire plate. In addition, I ordered the California breakfast burrito which included a skirt steak. The steak was cold and it was all skirt no steak. I’ve previously worked at Outback Steakhouse, so I can tell when I was given the bad basically “disposable parts” of the steak. It was super chewy and another customer commented after me that his burrito was also all skirt no steak and was very chewy. The burrito was $20 so I was pretty floored when it came out lacking in every arena. The burrito on paper looked fire but fell flat; almost like the flavors didn’t come together like they were supposed to in each bite. At the end of my meal, I was STILL CHARGED for the half of the burrito that was eaten: my cold, subpar burrito. My plate was still over half full so this wasn’t one of those “I’m going to eat it all then complain at the end of my meal so it will be free” type of moments. As someone who also has worked f&b I would never charge for cold food that came out poorly. Overall, I’m disappointed and I’m not sure if it’s worth going back. I’m also not sure if it’s actually “free” for insiders or if they still expect a tip and purchase. It was hard to tell. Previously my stance was “I cannot recommend this location enough” and after today I’m not sure if I can recommend it at all😔😞 Pictures and Video: California Breakfast Burrito, Brussels and Potatoes, Cinnamon Roll Pancake, and the video is S’mores French Toast.

I came here for breakfast when I was in town. I ordered the turkey pesto meatloaf hash and up graded my pancakes to pineapple upside down. The hash was definitely different not to much flavor besides the pesto and needed some salt. The pancakes were good but I was expecting more of the brown sugar sauce on them. They had a couple tidbit of pineapples so they were tasty but it was not what I was expecting. My son ordered strawberry cheesecake pancakes and those were very good plenty of cream and strawberries. I also had a guava mimosa and it was delicious.

Fantastic spot for breakfast! The staff was outstanding and the food was delicious! Great atmosphere with great vibes! Indoor and outdoor seating as well! Definitely a must try!

Google
Amazing food with a kid-friendly atmosphere. As a vegeterian traveling with kids, this breakfast place was a great option. We loved the vibe of the restaurant and the staffs were very friendly. We ordered Mushroom pesto benedict, Pineapple pancake and Cinnamon pancake. The food came in a timely manner and I loved all the dishes, especially the cinnamon pancake. The portion of the food was worth the price. The menu was vegeterian and vegan friendly and I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a relaxed breakfast or brunch options.

Google
My favorite breakfast place, hands down! They have the best food, best atmosphere, best service — truly the best everything. Every visit, in every single location, feels comforting and delicious from start to finish. The staff is always friendly and welcoming, the dishes come out perfectly made, and the vibe is just unbeatable. If you’re looking for a place that gets every detail right, this is it. Highly recommended! ☕✨

Yelp
Great service, excellent food, and huge portions! Dined on the patio to enjoy the gorgeous California temps! Loved the ambiance with plenty of seating inside and outside. Nice for big groups as well. Had the American breakfast both times I dined here. The breakfast potatoes are so delicious with nice flavor. Also my bacon was perfectly crispy the way I like it :)

Yelp
Breakfast Republic in North Park has easily become one of our absolute favorite breakfast spots. We keep finding ourselves coming back again and again, and it never disappoints! I'm completely obsessed with the Breakfast Sammy--it's hands-down the best breakfast sandwich I've ever had, and I basically order it every single time without fail. Perfectly cooked eggs, crispy bacon(THE BACON is the best bacon I've had!)... I could eat it every day. The French toast was solid--definitely tasty and a generous portion--but it was a tiny bit on the dry side for my taste. Still totally enjoyable, just could've used a touch more moisture or syrup love. Service is always friendly, the vibe is fun and lively (love all the chicken decor), If you're looking for a go-to brunch place in North Park, this is it. We'll be back (probably next weekend ). Highly recommend!

Yelp
Parking can be a challenge especially on the weekends. Be prepared to park 2 to 3 blocks away. Food is delicious but don't expect big portions. They used to give better portions but those days are non existent. Service was good even though they were busy. Restaurant is clean and so was the restroom. I recommend it and I would go again. I think I've been about 6 times in my life and I'm 47. Here's to the republic and the empire!

Yelp
One of my favs for brunch and morning drinks- highly recommended. Gets crowded quick so get there early!

Yelp
We reserved the private room located here and it was great overall. Alex was our server and really attentive and friendly. He was great and our whole party mentioned they loved the service. The private room is AC which is great especially when it's warm outside. All the orders came out in a short amount of time. Either large parties food typically takes a long time but the team was on it. Several of us ordered the Steak and Eggs. The pancake flight is a must. Every dish was made as expected.
google avatar

Sharay D.

Yelp
They don't take reservations so you have to put your name down and just wait. Let me warn you. .they give alot of food!! They have pancake and French toast flights for us greedy people! I ordered the buttermilk, strawberry cheesecake and cinnamon roll pancake, fennel chicken sausage omelet and the French toast flight. The star player on the pancake flight was their cinnamon roll with walnuts and glaze! You will not be disappointed! The omelet was pretty good, the chicken sausage was flavorfull. The potatoes are kind of bland though. The French toast flight was strawberry and marscopone, brioche and their mr Presley ( which is stuffed with peanut butter) and bananas on top. There were a couple of hiccups but I would go back. I mentioned no bacon on the mr Presley and sadly my mr Presley had no peanuts butter as well. The chicken sausage omelet had bacon in it also. But the waitress was nice enough to comp that meal. Overall I enjoyed my meal and will definitely come back.

Yelp
Not much to say about BR besides that it's overhyped. It's a big chain in San Diego that is practically in every other neighborhood in South County. The menu is large but food is pretty mid. We ordered breakfast: chilaquilles w/ carne asada and the vegan breakfast burrito. The chilaquiles were fine, eggs were a little undercooked and the carne asada was chewy and had NO flavor (for an extra $6 charge). My friend ordered the vegan breakfast burrito with no vegan beef strips and it came with what seemed like extra so she was picking them out. I also ordered the salted caramel latte that was pretty good. overall a very mid experience.

Yelp
This was a really cool spot with a nice outdoor patio. The service was really good. They were on point and got the food to the table really quick. I wanted to try the shrimp and grits but settled for the bacon jalapeño cheddar sausage omelet. It was good but I felt like the sausage could've been cooked more. The texture was more on the soft side. My daughters got the steak and eggs and said it was decent but could've been better. My wife enjoyed her meal. I'd give it another shot but will try something new next time.

Yelp
Food and service were amazing!! Our first time here and Alex made sure it wouldn't be our last!!! He answered all our questions on the menu, gave us suggestions, he anticipated all our needs. My coffee was always full and my husband's lemonade was never empty either. Definitely made us feel welcome. We will be back.

Yelp
Breakfast Republic was an absolute delight. The food was great. The service was super fast and the staff were friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. Gustavo at the G street location was the best!! I loved the overall ambiance of the restaurant and it's clearly a fan favorite based on how much business was coming through! If you're looking for great fast service stop by.
google avatar

Yelp
We arrived around opening and it wasn't too difficult to get a table. The inside is very fun with a lot of chicken themes. I loved the salt and pepper shakers in the shape of eggs. The menu had a great selection. We started with the Jurassic Bloody and the Lychee Mimosa. The Bloody was pretty good. I love that it came with a big thick piece of bacon. I wish it was a little more spicy but it was good! The lychee mimosa was spectacular. I love lychee and I could drink these all day. We both got benedicts, the Jurassic Pork Benedict and Cluck Madame Benedict. My favorite was the Jurassic because I love their bacon! Overall, good place and I would go back!

Milene T.

Yelp
Absolutely recommend this place They have the best eggs Benedict!! Great atmosphere and service! I'm definitely coming back!

Yelp
Breakfast Republic (BR) is one of my go-to brunch spots to enjoy the most important meal of the day in the most down-to-earth environment. Each time I order something new, I'm never ever disappointed. I love how creative their dishes are and lots of options to pick from. This is why BR got me hooked and giving them a 5-Star Rating: - Amazing Food - Awesome Service - Attentive Staff - Affordable Prices - Adequate Portions No wonder it's very popular! I definitely recommend BR. :-)

Camila B.

Yelp
This place has been my breakfast obsession for way too long and honestly? They've never disappointed

Yelp
ALEX, was amazing! First time eating here and it will NOT be the last. He was super down to earth, knowledgeable and his opinion on the menu made my choices for breakfast TOP Tier. Outstanding job Alex!!!!

Julia B.

Yelp
Alex was a great server! Very attentive to our needs. He was genuine and sweet. Food was a 4, he was a 5!

Sue G.

Yelp
My cinnamon pancakes were very good and our server (Alex) was fantastic. I really appreciated the pato heaterss.

Yelp
Donna our waitress was pleasant and always checking on our table to make sure we were doing okay. Our food was delicious, warm and promptly served. We had two birthday celebrants at our table, and Donna made sure they felt special for their Birthday month. She provided complimentary cake desserts for each celebrant along with candles to make a wish. Better yet, she stayed at our table and sang the birthday song with us. The staff was amazing and welcoming! Thank you, we shall be back!

Yelp
Chicken and hen house themed everything! Several photo op spots. Indoor and outdoor seating. We waited quite a while before our water was brought to the table. Aside from that everyone from the hostess to the servers and kitchen staff were pleasant. Once the food came out, we were checked on several times. Plates were cleared as soon as we were done with them, which was nice since we ordered way too much food and had a full table. So many menu items caught our eyes so we do what we usually do...order several dishes to share. Our food: - Chilaquiles. not a fan of the red sauce so was a little disappointed to hear that no other sauce options were available. - Shrimp & Grits Breakfast. so freaking good. Grits were creamy, shrimp were cooked perfectly, the cluckin sauce combined with the sweet corn was a delicious combination. I would keep coming back just for that. - French Toast sampler for 2: S'mores, Banana Split, and Mr. President. We tried our best to get through these but we got so full. The banana split was my favorite. I'm a sucker for a brulee. My husband has more of the sweet tooth so he was in sugar heaven. We also ordered a side of bacon (not special to report there), vanilla latte (decent), and bottomless strawberry lemonade. Tip: make sure to visit the restroom. audio from movies are playing separate from the restaurant music and it's pretty hilarious. Also take a selfie in the sunglass mirror. Great choice for our SD Sunday Brunch before heading back to LA.
google avatar

Kari R.

Yelp
I came here for a sit-down breakfast with both vegan and regular options. On a Sunday, it took about 20 minutes to get a table, so my husband and I took a walk around the neighborhood while we waited for the text that our table was ready. He ordered a non-vegan dish, and I went for the vegan Jammin' Bennie. The food, however, took forever to come out. It was honestly ridiculous, and seeing other tables' food arrive, I couldn't help but wonder if my vegan option was the hold-up. That said, the Jammin' Bennie was fantastic! Everything about it was spot-on, and I especially loved the vegan sausage. The potatoes, though, were a big disappointment, not for me. Breakfast potatoes are a big deal in my house, and these just didn't hit the mark. While I really enjoyed the Bennie and was excited to come back, the slow service is a huge drawback. I just can't justify such a long wait to get my food after ordering.

Yelp
Amazing customer service. Food was great, always coming to this location. Would definitely recommend.

Yelp
Great experience overall. The food was great with an adorable atmosphere. It was very busy but service was prompt!
google avatar

Yelp
We're visiting our daughter in SD and stumbled on this casual breakfast spot after a very average hotel breakfast experience yesterday--and what a find! Tons of vegan options--way beyond the usual avocado toast or oatmeal. I had the Harvest Omelette and it totally hit the spot (though next time I'll skip the jalapeños). The blackberry jam with my sourdough toast was really delicious too! My husband had the regular eggs Benedict and was just as happy. Great service and food, relaxed vibe, with something for everyone. We left full and happy!

Yelp
Umit was such a great waiter. He was so kind to my family, and even colored with my 4 year old. We had a great experience with him. Thanks Umit!
google avatar

Dania P.

Yelp
Located in North Park - no adjacent parking so you'll have to find a nearby street or park at a paid spot. Was really looking forward to a great experience but unfortunately everything lacked. We were seated in an abandoned corner where our server probably only came around twice. As soon as we sat down we ordered our food and it still took well over 30 mins to get it. And unfortunately it was brought out COLD. The inside of the restaurant gives a dirty vibe. And to make things worse cups were dirty with lipstick and residues of Tajín flakes. This location could be one of the best but service and cleanliness lack very much!
google avatar

Melanie M.

Yelp
My family and I came for brunch on a Sunday and I thought we would have to wait a long time but we didn't at all. We ordered a bottle of prosecco so several of us could have mimosas. My cousin ordered a salted caramel latte and it was just ok. It wasn't that sweet. I got the jurassic pork benedict and added avocado. My food was kind of cold. Many ordered pancakes and some other dishes. They liked their food and some had leftovers. Service was good but food was so so. I've been to a few different breakfast republic's and am not a huge fan.
google avatar

Katie C.

Yelp
First time at this location and it was my least favorite due to parking and interior felt cluttered. You have to search for street parking. We had to circle between 3 residential streets near by about 3-4 times on a Saturday late morning. Wait was pretty long as well about 45 minutes. Service and food was still great. And a little beer flight made us feel better. Omelet- we upgraded the potatoes to brussels sprouts and it was chef's kiss. Brussels sprouts were crispy and savory. Breakfast Jambalaya- was alright, I wouldn't order this again. I would stick with traditional breakfast dishes.

Yelp
I love this place! My friends and I had a celebration in the private room and it was perfect !!! Amazing service, great coffee and delicious food
google avatar

Orawan S.

Yelp
Stepped in on Wednesday brunch before my flight back to SF and got seat immediately. My server was very friendly and professional. She had a good recommendation and checked up on me and other tables attentively. As a bacon lover, Jurassic pork is a must!! Juicy bacon and perfection cooked poached benedicts eggs. Even English muffins under the egg are crunchy and tasty. Would love to try the pancake flight but it might be too much food. Definitely be back for the pancake when revisiting SD.
google avatar

Yelp
Came in on father's day with a group and reserved their large private room. Food was huge! Great value for the price. First time I have ever eaten with a group this size where there was zero complaints. Our server Alex is the goat, sit in his section if you get a chance!
google avatar

Keri W.

Yelp
We have been here a couple of time (when there is no line) and the food is good and the servers are attentive. This is the original location and they built it out really well. It used to be western steak burger which we loved too. It is nice and roomy with a front and back patio and I saw they also have a private dining area as well. We returned this morning and had breakfast as there was no line since it was fairly early. I ordered the shrimp omelet and a sauce of linguist. They were both good. My husband ordered steak and eggs. It was good though portion size was a bit smaller. Our server was super attentive and very nice. Overall a good bkfst.
google avatar

Daniella S.

Yelp
Great spot to bring the whole family. Maria was our server and she was so friendly and attentive. We all enjoyed our food especially the coffee. I went for a vegan option the jammin Benny and I loved the sweetness of the jam. I really want to try the pancakes next time! No complaints on the food yummy breakfast California burrito, tostadas , omelette , everything is so flavorful.
google avatar

Vincent C.

Yelp
We came here for my birthday breakfast because I've always heard great things about BR. We sat on the back patio which was pretty spacious. Our waitress was good and very papatient because somebody couldn't make up her mind. Anyway we ordered some type of egg scramble and the pancake flight. The food was very good and the price was very fair. I'll be back for sure!!!
google avatar

Nijki J.

Yelp
Was really look forward to my meal after a nice run. The servers were great but food came out COLD. I came a bit before closing so it wasn't busy. Unfortunate :/

Henry S.

Yelp
Food was amazing, service was a 10/10, shout out danna for the great customer service. Love this place sm !

Marcie I.

Yelp
This restaurant is screaming and desperately asking for a deep cleaning!!!! There's mold by the sink where they serve the water!!! Tables are sticky, , flies galore, food has an ok flavor, pancakes are a bit on the dry side. Not sure what went wrong here, it used to be a a bohemian and chill place, but sadly that's not the case. I don't enjoy the ketchup decor on the ceiling, dirty walls. Completely lost my appetite but since my family ordered I just didn't want to be that Karen walking out in disgust. I don't think it's necessarily the employees fault--it's more of a management (or lack there of) problem. I think the flies near my food would've been a nice add if I was eating street food or road kill, but honestly, I don't see the difference between here and outside.

Madrin L.

Yelp
Mentecata cosmetics had the protein pancakes and brussel sprouts. They were amazing. Jason and Brandon served us they were fabulous

Yelp
This is one of my must stop whenever I visit San Diego. Usually I take my Ube latte to go but today we ate there. Despite showing up during Sunday brunch, we were seated as a party of 6 right away. I love the atmosphere of this place, it has diner cafe vibes but in someone's farmhouse. Our server was very sweet. And I also want to give credit to the busboy who was running around and stacking plates like no other. The menu is quite extensive. There's definitely something for everyone. Even the vegetarians. I usually get the vegan eggs Benedict but I tried something new with the vegan burrito this time. Both are amazing. I love that they have actual meat substitutes here. The portions are huge so I actually ended up splitting my breakfast. They also have a little market where we bought some of their homemade hot sauce!
google avatar

Nate A.

Yelp
Not a fan of the food to be honest, the eggs taste very artificial, the mimosas aren't great. Overall just not a good restaurant, however the service was good!
google avatar

Johana P.

Yelp
Lovely spot for brunch. It was a great experience and the service was fantastic. Menu tend to be in the high end but food was delicious and worth every penny. Give them a try, you'll love the ambiance, food and service.

Yelp
We came in on Saturday morning party of 12 ,and let me tell you they couldnt have accomdated us better! Sophie our gracious host was on it thinking of a way and not once made us feel it wasnt possible. She provided us this beautiful private room that had plenty of space and perfect for our group to talk comfortably, and even helped us with using the internet to listen to our worship music!!. Then our server Alex was so attentive, helpful and polite that we couldnt of asked for a better server! Im sp happy we chose here for breakfast when there are so many in that area. We all will be back! Thank you Sophie and Alex for making our day memorable!

Yelp
I ordered the Vegan Harvest Omelet for takeout. The online menu said it came with a choice of bread, so I selected sourdough. I also added a side of breakfast potatoes for $6. When I got home, the bread was missing (though they included jam), and I realized the omelet already came with potatoes. The menu/ordering app doesn't say that, which is misleading. I wouldn't have ordered the extra side. They did agree to comp the potatoes when I called, but I still never got the bread. The food itself was also very disappointing. The potatoes were dry as hell, stale, and flavorless, some undercooked, others overcooked, clearly reheated multiple times. The omelet itself was okay, but the vegetables inside were literally raw and crunchy (except for the spinach). Without the bread, the meal felt incomplete. If I hadn't already walked home, I would have returned the entire order. For over $30, it was barely edible and missing items. Sadly, this isn't my first bad experience here. I gave it another try after a long time away, and it was the same. Other Breakfast Republic locations in San Diego don't have these issues from my experience, but I can't recommend this one and definitely won't be back ever.

Yelp
Service was a little laggy but our waitress was very kind and sweet, we loved the aesthetic of the restaurant! The plants to egg themed chairs was too cute ! And the heaters were a nice touch. The food, at least my dish, was okay but everyone else's seemed amazing as they couldn't hide their facial expressions after one bite ! Definitely will be returning !

Yelp
One of the best places to have breakfast. Amazing omelettes with a variety of style. Portion sizes are very generous. Ambiance is great and usually very busy during breakfast time. Customer service is good
google avatar

Carina C.

Yelp
First time at this restaurant and I must say the pancakes were delightful. They were nice and fluffy. Our server was very nice and attentive. Appreciated that they had both inside and outside seating options. The vibe and style were nice too . We will definitely be back again.

Yelp
Food was okay . I didn't care for the eggs Benedict I ordered . The green sauce on top didn't serve a purpose and the brown sugar bacon was good but I particularly didn't care for the combination. Although usually it is . Perhaps the flavors in the eggs Benedict didn't blend to well in this instance . The potatoes flavorless and dry . I mean everything sounds great on the menu but the end product is okay . Noticed that the couple next to us only ate half their meal .

Yelp
Amazing service! Relatively short wait time for brunch on a Saturday. It wasn't too crowded and I liked that we could easily hear each other talking in the restaurant. I feel like that's a pet peeve of mine when it comes to brunch spots. We ordered: Food - Cluck Madame Benedict - San Diego Benedict - California Breakfast Burrito - Brussel sprouts potatoes Drinks - Lychee mimosa - Chamango mimosa - Prosecco mimosa - French toast on the rocks Favorites were definitely the California Breakfast Burrito and the French toast on the rocks. I loved the sauce on the burrito, it really made the dish! Was a little disappointed with the rice and beans but overall wasn't a huge dealbreaker. The French toast on the rocks was deliciously sweet and makes me want to recreate it at home. If you love horchata, you will love this drink! Again, service was amazing. We brought in a cake to celebrate our friend's birthday. Our waitress gave us candles and wrote out happy birthday for us! Thank you so much! Will definitely come back here again.
google avatar

Gloria M.

Yelp
Super great brunch spot! It's pretty small inside so you may need to wait but trust me you should! We got the veggie breakfast tostado and it was pretty good. The breakfast jambalaya was super good and flavorful. I really enjoyed the flight of 3 pancakes. I selected the plain, strawberry cheesecake and the cinnamon roll. We enjoyed the coffee cake too. Def a super solid option!

Yelp
Food was great. Loved the cute egg and chicken theme throughout even down to the salt and pepper shakers too cute! Kayla was our amazing server and made sure we were taken care of. Will definitely be back.
