Yelp
Breakfast Republic came highly recommended and overall, when I scoped out the photos prior to visiting on Yelp, the food all looked so delicious and I couldn't wait to dig in. Unfortunately, after two visits, it fell short and I will be on the hunt for another local breakfast/brunch spot.
Breakfast Republic has several locations around Southern California - This review is for The Village at Pacific Highlands Ranch location as this is the only one I have visited. Located in a large shopping plaza, there is plenty of complimentary parking between the lot and the parking garage so no need to worry on that end.
When you arrive, expect a bit of a wait as there always seems to be a crowd. Since the onset of the pandemic, I understand that places are most likely understaffed which is typically the main reason for the wait (which I completely understand), but it was lack of friendliness and the complete disregard for the items that were asked for (on both occasions) that has me sad about the service portion. Both times I've visited, the service has not really been on point and the team could honesty use a bit of a "customer service" refresher. Service with a smile can go a long way.
Here.. it's the food that also fell totally flat for me; I guess based on the reviews and foodie pics, I was expecting more. The menu offers a wide variety of both food and drinks and each of the items is super creative (from its name to the actual ingredients used). Drink wise, you can expect Coffee, Tea, Fresh Juices, Beer, Mimosas, Kombucha and Craft Cocktail - Whatever your heart desires. I love a good Chai Latte and this one does not disappoint and is highly recommended. On my first visit, the friends I was with both had one of the cocktails and their opinion was that they were simply "ok". When we moved onto our breakfast dishes, I was underwhelmed to say the least. On my first visit, I said that I did not want the side of Toast but I still wanted the side of Potatoes, and when my meal arrived {after quite a wait}, there were no Potatoes - I opted not to say anything because quite frankly, I didn't want to wait any longer. One the second visit, I asked asked for my Omelette without Spinach.. and guess what came in my Omelette. Both my husband and I agreed that the food just wasn't seasoned enough and was a bit bland. Now, I'm not saying the food was bad (it was not), but it wasn't something that blew my mind or made me think I found my favorite new breakfast spot.
