Breakside Brewery & Tasting Room is tucked in the backside of an industrial park. There is usually a great foot cart outside. The music is great and there are table inside and out.

Google
Awesome brewery and tasting room. There were 24 taps to choose from when I visited and they offer flights of 6. Pilsners, Pales, West Coast, Hazy, Sour, Stout.... Something good for everyone. I sampled 8 beers and all of them were good or better. The people working the bar are awesome and helpful; there is a nice vibe to the place, good music and plenty of seating inside and out.

Google
Breakside is, more than any other place that comes to mind, all about the beer. Before you find the building itself, it's clear that you're in a light industrial, production setting - take the first, rightmost entrance off of International Way to find Breakside. The taproom has a nice system for tastings, letting you fill in the beers you want on a form that they use to pour, and your choices are laid out in the same order on a board. The biggest sign that beer is the focus is the choice (singular) of food. Your only option is chips and salsa - an unopened container of each. My guess is that they're in a building that is not zoned for any kind of food preparation at all. But this just reinforces the fact that Breakside is truly focused on beer, and their beers make it worth the trip from anywhere.

Google
The beer is great! Bring your own food. Follow the sign out by the main road. I did a taster board, with 6 different tastes. Very clean in main area and bathroom. Likes relaxed music mix too 👍🏻

Google
Great beer! Their apricot sour and Wonderlust IPA were nice back to back. This particular venue is large, convenient for the area, and nice if you like the tap room feel. Don't go on a hot day if you are an AC junkie. No food trucks.

Google
Fantastic visit. Just flew in from Virginia so this was one of the first stops. Steve was a great bartender. Very friendly (as was everyone). Very hospitable .Good brews. Flight and pints were great. Hope to go back sometime.

Google
My favorite brewery with their odd little taproom in Milwaukie. I love stopping here when I have the chance. Just always make sure to have a snack before.

Michelle

Google
I love this brewery - especially their Pilsner . Always a great selection and super friendly staff who know their beers !

Yelp
We had gone to one of the other Portland locations and were really underwhelmed, so years later we decided to visit this other location and give them another chance. The bearded gentlemen behind the bar was short and a bit rude out the gate, so not off to a great start. The beer was again underwhelming until we got the the Szechuan Blonde. Holy moly. What a flavor bomb! The Imperial Stout was also a hit. Everything before that though... *Shrug* The visit was saved by the lady behind the bar. She was super nice, very friendly, and the best part of the visit.

Yelp
I'm a big fan of drinking local beer, provided the local stuff measures up. Breakside definitely makes the cut. A very extensive beer menu which does rotate, so one can't really get bored. Food trucks park here on a regular and planned schedule. Yum!
google avatar

Yelp
Great spot! Indoor and outdoor tables available. Super friendly staff! Hearth and Soul Pizza truck there Thursday and Friday nights, and beer to go in cooler! Must check it out!

Yelp
Beer good. Pizza bus good. Patrons good. Service fine, miss my man, Chris. Showed up one day and he was gone.

Yelp
I was a little skeptical based on the random location but I loved this brewery! Everyone was so friendly and they LOVE dogs here. So many doggos it was amazing. Beer was great too! Definitely a fun place to hangout!
google avatar

Yelp
Something about having a beer where it's made, the industrial park is a little weird environment. but the beer love is all around. most knowledgeable and friendly staff. crisp 6$ pints. lots of choices to take home. and Breakside is one of the top brewers in town and beyond. around 22 taps to choose from, And the pizza bus had just set up
google avatar

Steve F.

Yelp
Friendly place. Always smiling. Great beer selection many styles. Chill atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Still going strong. Seems you need to have a golden retriever to be here. Ha! If you want food, and there isn't a food truck, DoorDash it here.

Raphael V.

Yelp
Service at the bar is reliable. Some cocktails are really good. What's awful is their loyalty program. Each bartender has a different take on it. Some say it is tied to the credit card, others say it is tied to my phone number. I specifically asked to use my reward points off the bill the last time I was in. The server told me i would be prompted by the card reader. When I signed my name, I got a pop up saying I had 73 points. Which is great-but NOT what I wanted. I wanted to USE points. And nowhere are there instructions on how to access the reward program. Bloody awful program!

Jordan G.

Yelp
Called to ask if they were playing Thursday night football and the guy literally got mad at me and hung up hahaha what the hell

Yelp
I've been going to Breakside's other locations for a while but hadn't made it to their Milwaukie location until not. It was super awesome and very chill. The bartender was super friendly and provided really quick service. I like how relaxed the setting is, and the nice amount of outdoor options for drinking including some barrel tables. Everything I had was super tasty! I definitely look forward to coming back.
google avatar

Yelp
Fun little spot to grab a beer. The bartenders are always super friendly and know their stuff. Be prepared to pet some golden retrievers! The parking can be a little rough during the busy times but regardless, still a great spot to stop in an grab a brew!

Yelp
Stoked for Break Side Brewery to open. Staff has been awesome. Great selection of solid brews!!

Yelp
Been going here for 3 years and it's the best brewery in town. Dog friendly, great beer and vibe. Awesome tap list! Thank you guys for being awesome and serving multiple types of beer.

Yelp
Still open during Covid, following guidelines, No food, but beer pick up including packages and crowlers available. They have some outside space, so when allowed they should be able to do outdoor service at some point. Great service.

Erin S.

Yelp
My favorite brewery in Portland. This spot was a somewhat hidden gem for a couple years, then people drank the beer and found out how good it is. Now it's typically packed with thirsty folks. Always friendly servers.
google avatar

Yelp
OMG! Where do I start. You must do a taster or two here. So many of their beers are good. Mexican Stout was my favorite with Thirst Trap close behind. So many Pate different with unique flavors. Bellwether is gin barrel aged. I was the only one In My group that really likes this, not sure why. Spurs are definitely sour but not my cup of tea. Lunch Break ISA super smooth and easy drinker. If you like bourbon barrel Age then the Fourth Wave is for you. Lemon Pepino was a great warm weather beer. Very refreshing. Wakatu Cockatoo very unique and refreshing. Going home with a couple 32's of the Salted Carmel Stout. Just wish there was food or a food truck. They do have bags of chips and Salsa so that helped. I am updating g this as I just read a 1 Star and can't respond to him. This is a TAPROOM not a restaurant. Get all the info before your come. And guess what, this is where it all started. The one in Deekum came afterwards. Looking for good beer, this is the place to come. We live in Gresham and if this place were closer would be here all the time.

Yelp
Truly a hidden gem. Great beer from the source. No pretentiousness no fancy decor just a great comfortable place to drink great beer and have good conversation with those visiting of like taste and beer mind. All are truly welcomed here...OOPS I left out that all must be 21 or older no children or toddlers as of this date due to OLCC. Well behaved dogs are welcomed too! Cheers!

Yelp
Cool casual vibe. Nice staff and good beer. The food selections are a little hit or miss. Private parking lot. Buy some bottles to go.
google avatar

Yelp
Came here for a Blazers game. Why don't they have food? Everything else was great. Clean bathrooms, interesting sours on tap. Not crowded.

Mary S.

Yelp
Good beer. Decent food. Youthful energy. Not pretentious. This is a favorite spot to take out-of-town guests.

Teric John S.

Yelp
A PDX staple. Friendly service, great selection of fantastic beers, and an environment that is friendly for all beer lovers.

Yelp
A month ago my wife and I had a bad service experience here at Breakside. I did not leave them a negative review right away. I wrote them an email through Yelp and through their website directly. I was not contacted by anyone from the company at all. 24 hours latter I left them a one star review explaining/detailing what had happened and this is the response I received from the owner of Breakside brewing. "Your review was way over the top. I wish you the best. Seriously. When we have the vast majority of our review overly positive it's tough to take one as extreme as yours very seriously. It impacts the folks that work here though and that sucks. Yelp is very annoying sometimes." Owner of breakside Scott I have deleted the previous review in hopes of some communication with Scott as I really love the beer here and I don't like to leave negative reviews. I have reached out twice in a month with no response. We all screw up, shit happens! Businesses need to own em, learn from them and try really hard not to let them happen again. I think Breakside just doesn't care. Sad really, but at this point they certainly wont be getting my business.
google avatar

Yelp
Breakside has always been wonderful, but it's cool to have the first keg for my new kegerator come from Breakside. Stephanie was so incredibly kind and helpful. Good beers and awesome people. Thanks so much!
google avatar

Linda C.

Yelp
Expansive warehouse with a bar area at the front and ample seating either at the bar or at one of the barrel tables. Only one bar tender when we went but he did a fantastic job of keeping everyone topped up and explaining the story behind each beer. Here's what we had: Barberhop IPA - yes, that is spelled correctly and hubby thought it was very good Mosaic Pale - also very good Aztec Ale - nice and spicy Apizza Alt - this was my choice. It was smooth, malty and easy to drink. Salted Caramel Stout - Dessert in a glass! I really loved the sweet and salty flavor. Great way to finish the session. Superb service, laid-back vibe and cool industrial decor combined with an interesting selection of great tasting beer. Only thing lacking was food.
google avatar

Frank R.

Yelp
No food here to speak of. They used to have darts, which made up for the lack of food. No more darts. They have a shuffleboard table that is severely tilted. The beer was good. If you just want to stand around an industrial space and drink beer, I guess it's okay. Not going back.
google avatar

Katrin A.

Yelp
Great place to get together with a few friends for some great home brewed beers. Games such as Dart, Fussbal and Corn hole are available for no charge to keep folks entertained. If you're looking to stay for a late night, your in the wrong place though, this is for a later afternoon and early evening beer.
google avatar

Nathan A.

Yelp
I love this brewery. They have such a large variety that its easy to find something that everyone can enjoy. I am a huge fan of their taster trays which are a very generous amount for the price. They welcome well behaved dogs and bringing in your own food so it makes a great Friday lunch spot or a good place to hide out from the evening traffic before heading home. The people behind the counter know their stuff and can help guide you in the right direction if you can't decide.
google avatar

Marc R.

Yelp
It is a bit of a ways out there unless you live nearby, but worth the visit for a taste of the many fine beers produced by Breakside and some strange creations they might have on test tap. Always fun. They don't have food but they welcome people ordering pizza delivery or bringing food. Just ask for the garbage can when you leave and don't leave a mess.

Yelp
Breakside Brewery was definitely my favorite brewery that we went to during my birthday weekend in Portland. The variety of beers are experimental in nature with their ingredients. I love that kind of creativity! I had two beers here because it was just too hard to resist to just have one! I had the Bourbon barrell aged Aztec. The regular Aztec beer of theirs is a kind of a mole beer that involves chocolate and spices of the the kick and heat variety. Add the Bourbon-Aged aspect to it and this creates a rich, smooth beer that was delicious. The bourbon definitely got my attention which is the general idea for me when I drink beer like this. I don't want them to be too subtle. I also had the Bergamot Special Bitter. It was indeed bitter and perfect! This kind of beer involved Earl Grey Tea which was in an instant was the other beer that I had to try here. The bartenders are super nice and extremely informative about all the different beers that they have on tap. We even got small tasters of beer without even having to ask...they were just something that the bartender felt like we would enjoy. Great, great brewery and instead of wishful thinking I KNOW that I will be back here to try more of their beer!
google avatar

Jeremy L.

Yelp
An out of the way gem. Big fan of Breakside's beer, but the Dekum location seems like it's always crammed full of people. Totally sold on the second location, though. Basically just a tap room in the brewery space, and the focus is all on the beer. TONS of taps. Didn't count, but damn they're serving a lot of different beers. Beyond that, I don't think they were serving their own food, but I had a pizza from a food cart outside that was amazing.
google avatar

Bret C.

Yelp
Great hang. You can smell the brewing going on while you're having an awesome bear and it is glorious! Make sure to visit with Patrick the taproom manager for a good conversation. They do not serve food here but you can bring in your own.
google avatar

John P.

Yelp
Nice place, seems very popular with the locals. I think I was the youngest person in there, the crowd skewed older which is pretty cool to see at a brewery. I was interested in their sour and barrel stuff but they only had one on offer when I visited, which was pretty disappointing. The IPAs and whatnot that they had available were solid but nothing to write home about. However, the bottles that I took home were really fantastic! If you can get the salted caramel stout, buy it, you won't be disappointed!
google avatar

Betsy G.

Yelp
Such a cool little spot! Excellent beer. Classic tap house in industrial area where they brew and bottle. Very cool. Would be better if they could have some different snack offerings! Pretzels, goldfish, something besides a bag of chips & salsa for $8
google avatar

Joelle H.

Yelp
Love the service in this house from being seated in a clean Industrial environment with a bright smiled hostess to being served with a delicious display of Juicy steak and multiple hearty sides to satisfy this palette. I thought maybe everyone was over rating this place but think I'll be back again and again! I noticed alot of menu promotions which is good cuz I'm always on a budget and perfect detail of menu awareness is not lacking here. Seems I might have to come back one of their busy in the evenings and see if the service is just as good :-)
google avatar

Will R.

Yelp
This is probably the most bare bones of all the PDX taproom experiences. It is certainly very different than their taproom/restaurant in north PDX. There are just a scant array of chairs, stools, and tables present, and it fills up fast soon after opening. Many other reviewers mention the demographic, I'm 37 and I was definitely on the younger end of the spectrum here, which in my opinion sort of makes this place cool. The beer and the folks serving it to you are pretty damned awesome. No record screeches when you walk into this place. It's very inclusive and chill. To a point though, because once it fills up, it becomes standing room only and it can get tight and sort of uncomfortable. It is also small, so don't go thinking it's some cacophonous space like so many other PDX taprooms. If you want food and a big space then best you visit their N PDX location. Here it is pretty no frills- no food, small space, with a decided focus on fresh brews. Indeed, they have a lengthy taplist of beer they aren't necessarily bottling or sending to far outside the brewery, and they have a very cool selection of their rare and seasonal beers in to go bottles inside their stand up refrigerators. This is definitely for the beer geeks out there. I live close to their N PDX location on Dekum so I go there often, but if you want the real deal you need to hit this place. You can get a good look at the brewery and try some brew that you might not find elsewhere.

Yelp
Just grabbed a 'Pilsner' this evening. I usually don't like most locally crafted beers but this was a great tasting and refreshing Pilsner. Great job! I'll be purchasing regularly.

Yelp
No. Oh God. No. You've abused me for over 20 years. And after every time you promise to go easy on me, only to beat me down the next weekend because of your over the top drinking. I've been with you since the beginning, yet this is how you treat me? I've watched you in your early days with your Zima and your wine coolers, God you were a pussy back then. I watched your graduation to that local Honey Beer and Heffeweizen, and your eventual maturation into your love for craft beers, IPAs and hops. You promise me you will lose weight. You promise me you will cut back. You promise me that the abuse will stop. And now this. 22 god damn taps within stumbling distance of our home. 22 fucking taps of amazing, experimental and oh so delicious craft beer! And I'm supposed to think that this will stop? That the weekly mistreatment will suddenly go away? You've already been there twice and I can tell that you've taken a liking to them. I smell them on your breath, I'm not stupid. And I thought it was bad when Laurelwood opened up close to your work...now this? Well I've had enough. This is the last straw. I'm shutting it all down. I'm tired of your lying, I'm tired of it all. Get a life you good for nothing...get a transplant! Let's see you drink without me, bitch. Sincerely, Your Abused Liver

Yelp
This is easily my favorite of all the breweries I have visited in Portland! Breakside is a small brewery, but they are doing amazing things. I know they do a few cool beer/food pairing dinners, which I would love to check out some time. On my first visit a few months ago, I loved one beer in particular: the Guava India Red Ale. I love anything with guava and that beer was soooo amazing! I would have bought a bottle to take home but they didn't offer it in bottles or growlers yet. Instead, I took a bottle of the Tropicali which had lychee in it, yum! And now I have returned! I visited Breakside again yesterday. The same bartender from last time, Amy, was holding down the fort by herself again. She still managed to keep everyone happy and drinking. Sadly, they did not have the Guava IRA this time, but they had some really fun new brews. I especially liked the Coconut IPA and the Bergamot Special Bitter. I'm not usually an IPA fan, but the coconut added a hint of sweet and smoothness that I enjoyed. The tea notes in the Bitter were quite nice. I also had a flight of 1) Chaison, 2) Smoked Oktoberfest, 3) Passionfruit Sour, 4) Ludovicus Antonius, and 5) Smoked Porter. I REALLY wanted to like the Smoked Oktoberfest, since it was described as a Rauchbier and I recently became a fan of that style. They described it as "Bacon, sweet malt, herbal, smooth." As much as I love smoky and/or savory beers, I couldn't finish this. It definitely had bacon flavor, but it tasted too much like the way UNCOOKED bacon smells. Not my favorite. However, I FINALLY found a sour beer I actually liked! The Passionfruit Sour was very good, with just enough of the passionfruit flavor I love. I may have to bring a bomber of that home. Thanks for always impressing me with your unique, experimental beers, Breakside. I look forward to stopping by next time. I love your beers and tasting room, so I saved my 600th review to rave about you!

Yelp
HORRIBLE PLACE!!!!!! I have gone into refill my growlers and enjoyed a beer on prior occasions. Then today happened, the bar was pretty busy. We were not greeted for about ten minutes in which the bartender lady said she was busy and would get to us soon. This then was followed by more time as other people walked to the bar and where served right away. While I waited more time. We sat through "Hey Jude" which had as 7:11 run time. After seeing the sixth person get help I decided to leave with out the bartender noticing. So thank you for this experience I will never return again. I can take my money and my growler to be filled else where.
google avatar

Stacy S.

Yelp
$8 growler fills on Monday and Tuesday! Are you kidding me! Grab a pizza and meet me there. They don't have food but you can bring your own.
google avatar

Matt R.

Yelp
This is the best Brewery taproom in Portland. It's roomy, affordable, the staff are great- and the 20+ beers they have on tap are all delicious. They have quite a few barrel aged beers- and a surprising number of sour beers. I think Breakside are making the best beer in Oregon right now. If you're in the area- it's absolutely worth stopping for a pint of their craft brew.
google avatar

Paul R.

Yelp
So I never knew this place existed until I was invited to a surprise birthday party there. My first impression was, "wow, this place is just a warehouse with a bar and a few tables made from barrels". After making my entrance and greeting the birthday boy, I bellied my way up to the bar. I was overwhelmed by 22 taps of pure joy. The hard part is to figure our what to try first. I asked the bartender to to surprise me with something not to dark and he did me up right with a pilsner. I was hooked on my first sip! I will certainly be back to try the rest as soon as I find time.
google avatar

Greg T.

Yelp
The smell of hoops, the industrial feel and the smile of great people, it cant get much better! I ended up getting a few samplers before deciding on the passion fruit sour, and it was good. Had the right amount of sweetness to it too, definitely going to recommend this place in the future because of the great service by Stephanie.
google avatar

Jason A.

Yelp
Great little hideaway in Milwaukie! You just cannot beat this place for quality beer. They take some serious chances and brew some things that seem not from this world on the menu. I became a pilsner fan here, something I never thought with all the amazing IPA's on board in our fair city. Might I add their IPA is stellar here all the same. Their pub and restaurant on dekum in North Portland is great, but being so far away I'll have to settle for Milwaukie. They have a brilliant plan at this location. Some follow through to be worked on, but it's still fun. Essentially you are visiting an industrial site where they brew the goodness, and there's a little side pub tucked into the side. At least 20 taps are going, and you get good 'ol fashioned beer barrel tables and metal stools. Cleanliness is never something to worry about since there isn't food around, and everything is kept well swept and tidy. Bathrooms as well. Those coming here should be prepared. They don't have any food on site, and service is hampered since this isn't a full service pub. It's just meant to be a happy little place frequented by the after work crowd on Milwaukie Industrial Hwy. You almost expect to see it crammed with white outfitted Bob's Red Mill staff just needing some hoppy pleasure and not having to smile for ten minutes and answer questions about how to make quinoa macaroni. Why not more stars? Well, the food thing is an issue. They've got to find a way to get some snacks in here, or a simple toasting oven would suffice for some snazzy bread and cheese items. Food=bigger tabs and a 70% chance a customer would order an additional beer.............and I know all the answers because I watch Bar Rescue religiously, ha ha! Other issue is the price. $4.50 is a bit much for a pint, especially in Milwaukie. It's worth the price, but you can get as good of beer in SE PDX and only drop $3.75-4 per pint. This is a little gouging to me. Overall this is a top notch little back door in Milwaukie and will always be special to me for the fact that after 35 years, I took my Dad here and we had our first beer and conversation one on one together in my whole life. I'll be going back!
google avatar

Kelsie V.

Yelp
not much atmosphere Breakside Beers! Solid beer and some one offs, Nice brewery hall feel. Locals gather to get their pint or growler fill. Helluva deal $8 fills on Mon., Tues., Very kind and attentive server No Food. But they do allow you to bring in. They offer chips and salsa as an option though. Hard to find in industrial park - be sure to turn in quick right into first industrial park if coming from International Way. (?) I think.
google avatar

Adam S.

Yelp
This is a nice industrial feeling location in Milwaukie. Although you won't get the good food like you would at the Dekum location (some of the best nachos in Portland), the beer selection and service will keep you coming back again and again. Service is awesome here, it is packed but the single server makes sure everyone is happy. Even during my visit the amount of growers she poured and attention she gave to other customers she still had time to answer my stupid questions. I would come here more often if I lived closer. Oh.. do you want to know about the beer? It is good, I tend to like the one offs, their ipa is fine but the barreled beers like the Aztec or coffee ales or salted caramel stout are the way to go. They are happy to give samples or talk about beer.
google avatar

Drew H.

Yelp
The beer was delicious and our server Amy was absolutely incredible. Oh the sample sizes were huge and the beer ridiculously cheap...at least for someone who is used to San Francisco prices
