Yelp
Let me start off by saying, this was our first time to Beaufort and Fripp Island, and this was the only dining experience out of the 3 restaurants that we went to that was pitiful. You're much better off going to Saltus River Grill or Lady's Island Dockside.
We dined on a Saturday evening as a walk-in, and had the local shrimp as an appetizer--this was over-seasoned and came with maybe 8 shrimp--the fried local shrimp appetizer at Saltus is MUCH better--you order by the quarter/half/full pound and it's flavorful and light. For entrees, our party of four had the hamburger steak, pimento cheese burger, shrimp and scallops and the stuffed squash and sweet potato mash (for the vegetarian in our group). Firstly, the bartender that first greeted us at our "non-reservable bar table" got our drink and appetizer orders 10 minutes later, vanished and never came and took our entree order. Mind you, the restaurant was not busy at this time. Maybe all the reservations came in later, but when we walked in, there were hardly any tables seated.
When another bartender came and took our order, she indicated that she let the other guy go home since it was so slow. We were perplexed because it took 20 minutes to get a refill for Diet Coke. We didn't realize they were running with 20 oz bottles of soda--not sure if their gun was broken or if they just run their business with 20 oz bottles.
1. The vegetarian that ordered vegetables off the menu was not asked "are you ok with the bacon in the stuffed squash", so she was forced to pick out the smoked bacon bits which still left a Smokey bacon flavor--might sound appetizing to us meat-eaters, but was disgusting for her. A. The menu probably should have mentioned the bacon, and if not, than B. Realize a person is ordering squash and sweet potatoes, so you might want to ask if the bacon is ok.
2. The fries they served with the waygu burger were crappy frozen fries..my partner specifically said "gosh, people just don't appreciate a good fry anymore with a good burger". Saltus River Grill fries were amazing--again, go there. They were hand-cut, freshly fried and delightfully seasoned.
3. My shrimp and scallop dish was actually quite good with pineapple fried rice. No complaints there. If you still decide to dine here, get that.
4. The hamburger steak's homemade A1 sauce ruined the dish (according to our friend that ate it--I did not personally try it) Maybe get it on the side and decide for yourself.
Don't go here--go to Saltus, Dockside, or ANYwhere else.
