The 13 Best New Restaurants in Orange County, California | Eater LA

"There are a lot of hot chicken places out there, but Bred Hot Chicken strikes the right chord. The Nashville-style crispy coating’s heat scale can reach ghost pepper-levels of spiciness. (First-timers are instructed to start with medium heat.) The Big O’ Sandwich is stuffed with Bred’s spicy crispy chicken, housemade pickles, and slaw in a toasted brioche bun. Crispy thick-cut fries are dusted with Old Bay seasoning, and signature iced tea is sweetened with raw honey and pure cane sugar. Co-owners Bred Scott and his wife, Laura, opened this new location inside San Juan Capistrano’s highly anticipated River Street Marketplace in early December 2024." - Jenn Tanaka

Google
Solid fried chicken sandwich but beware of the spice levels. I like spice but the medium spicy (level 3 of 5) was very spicy. Fries were great very crunchy. Banana pudding was too sweet and dense and corn starchy. Order took quite a while to get. They text you when the food is ready. There is plenty of outdoor seating.

We ordered a platter of 16 chicken sandwiches and our experience was nothing short of amazing! The service was friendly and fast. Our order was accurate, packaged well, and came with extra sauce which is always a plus. The chicken was juicy and thick with the perfect amount of crunch, topped with a creamy coleslaw that added fresh flavor. I would highly recommend the sandwich platter for any type of picnic or small event.

Google
The chicken and waffles were amazing. I got the medium spice which had great heat but wasn't overbearing. Got the three-piece combo for the kids with fries. The chicken was tender and juicy. The sauces that come with the meals are on point. My 4-year-old like the mac and cheese. I believe that the food was worth the price.

Google
Bred Hot Chicken in San Juan Capistrano is a solid spot, but it left me feeling it was just average overall. We tried the Caesar Salad and Loaded Chicken—both were decent but didn’t stand out compared to other chicken places like Raising Cane’s. On the positive side, the vibe inside was nice and inviting, making it a good spot to hang out. However, the difficult parking situation took away from the experience. Overall, it’s a decent choice if you’re in the area, but I wouldn’t go out of my way for it.

Google
Chicken sliders were done to perfection. Just the right amount of spice and heat. The seasoned fries were not so great. My order must have been the end of the batch. Mostly small bits with a few good fries mixed in.

Google
I recently visited this establishment and was quite disappointed with my experience, especially considering the $31 price tag. To add insult to injury, the system automatically prompted for a tip, despite the fact that I had to enter my own order without any assistance. On a brighter note, the chicken itself was flavorful, though it was drenched in an excessive amount of oil which detracted from the overall enjoyment. Unfortunately, the fries were served disappointingly cold. In summary, this dining experience left much to be desired. For those looking for quality chicken at a better value, Raising Cane's offers a similar taste profile for about half the price. I doubt I'll be returning here for another meal.

Absolutely delightful. I got the big old sandwich, which was around $12. Came with an enormous chicken breast, mildly spicy, which had just the right amount of kick for me. The sandwich was topped with some lovely slaw and their house sauce. Totally delicious, and I must say I preferred it to Main Chick, Dave's, and Howlin Rays. I feel it was neck and neck with Cluck N Blaze. I'll need to try both again to determine a final winner, but you cannot miss with Bred Hot!

Google
The food was amazing!!!! I got the loaded fries and they are so good! I’m not usually a fan of coleslaw but I ate every bite. The fries surprisingly didn’t get ridiculously soggy with all the toppings they put on. The cucumber or pickle or watever they put on top was PHENOMENAL! And for those of us who have a more conservative understanding of the words “satisfying burn” stick with the Medium Heat lol The only think I could say they could improve on is the amount of chicken in the Loaded Fries. It wasn’t bad by any means, but a little more would go a long way

Yelp
We got the loaded fries and they were awesome! They were covered in chicken, sauce, coleslaw, and pickles! Definitely get extra pickles. The price seemed pretty reasonable for what we got. You order on an iPad and get a text when your food is ready, so virtually no service. It can be quite difficult to get a seat outside as the patio is used by all the restaurants in the food hall.

Yelp
SJCap just got spicy - and I'm clucking impressed. Bread Hot Chicken at the new-ish River Street Rodeo Food Hall...It holds its own among a sea of tempting choices. And trust me--I'm a chicken sando hobbyist (unpaid, but passionate). Fresh and fast (admittedly ot was 11:00), this sandwich delivers a crispy, golden crunch that says "we mean business." The juicy chicken was hugged by a warm brioche bun, pickles gave it that tangy slap-in-the-face (in the best way), and the sauce was mild but memorable. Next time, I may level up the heat--though I'll likely get another case of sting ring the next day.

Yelp
Plates similar to canes. Overpriced to meet rent. Fries do not taste good, Forsure frozen and bad quality

Yelp
I found this spot in the food hall after looking for a salad option. I ordered the Hot Chicken Caesar salad. The chicken inside of it was pretty good, but the salad needed more dressing than what was given. I wouldn't say I was overly impressed by the salad, but would maybe come back for a chicken entree.

Yelp
The spicy chicken tenders here are epic! I highly recommend this place. Their bread and sauce are so savory. The chicken tenders are huge, so you might want to check their size first, just like I did, haha! The service is kind and responsive, and I'll definitely be coming back. The ambiance is a lively food court!

Yelp
The location in new spot at River St. Market place. The vibe inside was nice and inviting, making it a good spot to hang out. The chicken is tender but crispy, and so flavorful. I liked the sauce in their sandwiches . The food was worth the wait , the chicken sandwich was amazing and the food was high quality. The price was really high. It's automatically put a 20% tip on the purchase that's what I didn't like . It's a decent choice if you're in the area . Friendly service . Difficult parking situation !

Yelp
Tasty hot and they give you plenty of sauce In the food hall so warming you will need to pay for parking

Yelp
Located in Rodeo River Street Food Hall is Bred Hot Chicken. The staff member was so kind and gave out free samples of chicken for us to try and we were hooked especially with the variety of sauces you can choose from to dip the chicken in. We waited about 7 minutes and we picked up our 4 piece mild chicken tenders, fried really well, with great crispy and taste.

Yelp
We got the chicken and waffles and they were good and a reasonable price. The mild was a good level of heat, but wish the waffles came with more syrup. The "Comeback Sauce" is kind of like Raising Canes but not as good. The mac and cheese was also good but probably not worth the price. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly.

Yelp
Disrespectful. 30 bucks gets you nuggets, fries, and sauce..... oh yeah and pickles (two dollars for 3 pickles) You order on a f**king IPad and they have the audacity to ask for a tip After that you wait thirty minute 3 0 minutes! For fast food. Respectfully take your business to shoots right next door and get their chicken sandwich. After a 40 minute wait for our other order they couldn't even bother to get us the right sauces (that we paid an extra dollar each for) Disrespectful.

Yelp
Good food although a bit pricey. Waited not too long but enough to wonder where the food was. Food was great when it was fresh out of the kitchen. Ordered the chicken tenders and it was very juicy and well seasoned. Located in a food court with plenty of seating.

Yelp
I know it's a relatively new location (at River Street in SJC), but the food was just okay. Nothing special. Nothing remarkable. We shared the tenders, fries & mac and cheese. The chicken was tasty but the fries were meh, and while the mac and cheese had potential, it was barely lukewarm and had a bunch of raw cheese in the middle. Flavor was fine, but at a $40 meal, I expected something better. I could get something like this at a drive through...

Yelp
First time here at around 5pm. No line, not much of a wait. Our family had the big chicken sandwich and nuggets. Both were great! The sandwich was excellent and the coleslaw/pickles were delicious. The sandwich was huge. Took two people to eat it. Will come back again!

Yelp
This place is so good! The chicken had nice thin breading, it was juicy & well cooked. The spicy sauce had great heat, the ranch was perfect. We got loaded fries, they were super crispy & we loved the coleslaw too. The sugar honey iced tea will be in my dreams. The location is super cute & the staff was so kind. I can't wait to try the banana pudding... will definitely be back!!!

Yelp
Hot chicken caesar salad was good, but I wish the chicken had more seasoning/sauce. It tasted like just a caesar salad with fried chicken, which is good but nothing particularly special. The chicken was moist though!

Yelp
Tastiest Belgian Waffle I've ever had, and the chicken is excellent too. Ordered through DoorDash. A very good value too!

Yelp
Was waiting in front of for 5 minutes and just saw the cashier and cook talking not once did they come and help me 5/3/25

Yelp
This is the worst chicken strips. First, it was super greasy. Second , I can tolerate heat but the medium cayenne was awful. I think the cayenne bottle spilled on the chicken. Unbearable to eat. Lastly, for two orders of three chicken strips with fries and two sauces was $50. They charge $10.95 for two pieces of chicken strips but then if you want three strips it is another $3.95 and then you add $3.95 for fries and .79 cents for each sauce (comes with comeback sauce but it tasted like they added ketchup to their ranch dressing) on top of that they charge a service fee and expect a tip to do your job? It's not like you're being waited on by a waiter or waitress. Actually, you place your own order on a touchscreen pad. It's chicken strips people. Cane's is way better and way more cost effective. For $25/person, way better food options in that area for sure (location: San Juan Capistrano)

Yelp
We have gone here twice and both times the customer service was amazing. I had multiple people as me if I needed help with anything as I looked at the menu. Multiple people engaging me and kind conversation and explaining their menu. I received my order in pretty quickly, decent timing even though it was Christmas week and every where was packed. The food was amazing. A mac & cheese is one of the best I've had in a long time at places like this because I'm super picky. Will definitely go again.

Yelp
BEST FRIED TENDERS EVER! The most juicy tender chicken with a delicious comeback sauce to go with it! I love the chicken and waffles with soft and crunchy waffle and perfectly fried tender! My boyfriend loved the loaded fries with spicy seasoning and the coleslaw was chefs kiss! Paired with there delicious Arnold Palmar and banana pudding AMAZING!!

John D.

Yelp
We ordered the loaded fries and thought it was delicious. Everything tasted fresh and the food portions were normal serving sizes, unlike every other food vendor in this food hall. Also, the cashier was very helpful in figuring out what to order. I would eat here again.

Yelp
Got chicken strips and fries. Chicken was so greasy and not very well seasoned, and the fries were okay. Service was slow, it was a crowded area but only one guy getting orders together but he was also helping pack orders in the back so we had to wait awhile to pick up food. Best to stick with Dave's Hot Chicken.

Sam G.

Yelp
I had lunch at the Bred Hot Chicken and it was fabulous. I chose the spicy Bred Hot Chicken and I loved every morsel. I highly recommend the Bred Hot Chicken if you want an amazingly delicious meal.

Brooke B.

Yelp
Amazing food and very tasty seasonings! The sauce and chicken bites were my favorite! Will definitely be coming back!
