Breda

"Breda is a lively brown café with a difference. Here, traditional Dutch pub charm is elevated by elegant touches and a retro-luxe aesthetic. Opt for the appealing lunch or surprise set menus and experience how the chef creatively spices up his dishes with delicate acidic flavours. For example, vibrant yoghurt cream gives a fresh twist to sweet peas, watercress oil and a vinaigrette with chopped shallots. This chef knows how to make a dish sing with just a few ingredients. The wine list, which mostly features European labels, is sure to please even the most discerning palate." - Michelin Inspector

Our savory dishes were quite good. I couldn’t imagine a better way to make the beet dish. The lamb was amazing too, my wife who prefers white meat also loved it. Desserts were too sour. The service and atmosphere need a little polish. The service was just ok and the table cloth and plates need to be replaced.

Last visted May 2025 The location, the food, the service... top marks. Selected the 9 couse menu.... each course was nicely described. The presentation of each of the dishes was an eye-opener. I dined solo, at the bar and was the restaurant and staff were very welcoming. Thank you

Google
Beautiful place, very charming with excellent service. Food was great too, some flavors combinations were not my favorite but overall I liked it. Mackerel and fish entree the best for me. Have to say the service was excellent, one of the best we got in Amsterdam. I would go back to give it another try.

Google
Superb gastro experience. Slow start, but the welcome bite was stunning… Ceviche from pacific !!!was top served with mushroom b&b , next was beetroot dish (out of this world), moving forward with slow cook cod XO sauce ( wow) heading to the controversial lamb slightly served with an overwhelming sauce or gravy… pre dessert was mind blowing, minty goaty rhubarb, and the 5 course finished with a icy foamy chocolaty dessert missing a hunt of crunchiness texture to end this “sans faute” in the culinary department of Breda. Now service was slow but friendly. Water was homemade ! And the wine selection interesting. I would have loved getting a food menu but it seems that kind of dining experience is based on mutual respect and trust. Then, Comes the issue, the effort put in the dishes is not translated at the table which have a negative impact on the people (foodies) journey…Breda deserves a detour… for sure but service needs to raise like the phoenix… please pre print some small food menu to understand what we have been enjoying… P&L

We came here for a nicer dinner during our honeymoon trip to Amsterdam. The staff was incredibly kind: congratulated us, gave us the best, coziest table in the house, and welcomed us with champagne. Our server’s name was Yiannis (sp?) and he was very kind and helpful, talking us through each wine pairing so that we could truly appreciate the different tastes and types that were paired with each course. The dinner was an enchanting culinary experience from start to finish. Thank you so much Breda and Yiannis for such a memorable night!

Google
One of the best dining experiences in Amsterdam. Went there with my family who are visiting me from abroad for Christmas Eve, and let me tell you, this place did not disappoint. We went for their Christmas dinner 7-course special menu which was excellent. Service is top and ambiance is awesome. Excellent wine list. Highly recommend.

This is the only fine dining restaurant I’ve visited in this city, and it was a super cool experience. The flavors are strong and bold, like heavy metal music, and they soften in the later dishes, creating a harmonious meal. I tried many new ingredients, like guinea fowl and North Sea shrimp. The taste, vibe, and wine selection were all great and paired perfectly with the meal.

Google
An absolute gem of a restaurant, the service was extremely friendly and warm, she also explained every dish well. Courses were extremely well balanced and curated. Special mention for the cod and venison! Will definitely be back again when we’re in Amsterdam.

Yelp
Absolute top find from our visit to Amsterdam. Excellent, multi course meal with visual beauty and layer flavors, varying from clean and simple to more complexity. The culture of the restaurant was described to us as approachable preparation - what this said to me was it may push the envelope in what you have had before, but it will open you up to a different experience. Our servers were wonderful, informing us of the time it spends to enjoy the meal, which had us go with the 7 course meal. We also chose the wine pairings, and our server let us taste the pairing to make sure we liked it, and in my case, I had a few separate glasses - I didn't need 7 glasses of wine... Each dish was presented elegantly and explained in detail by the staff. As it is a "surprise" menu - which we thought was great, all we had to do was let them know ahead of time of allergies, etc and they could alter. This place is humble and unassuming, the decor is minimalistic, but the corner location lets in lots of light, and in the evening the views of the street and nearby canal bridge complete the setting. If your expectation is to savor your time and engage your senses in a delicious, surprising and "approachable" meal, this is your place. It is not white linen tablecloth, stiff service. It is also not an all you can eat extravaganza - go get a pita or pasta if that's your thing - please don't come here and lower your rating when you didn't do your research. As it is a small establishment, they do require a 25 euro deposit, which is put toward the meal, or refunded if you cancel in enough time. This has become the standard at better restaurants so wasn't surprising. Now go make your reservation and enjoy your meal!!!

Yelp
We found this place by chance on google. The menu is a surprise menu - you pick the number pf courses. The "full monty" of 9 courses was more than enough food. The servers were friendly and the atmosphere casual though still upscale. Stop by amd you won't be disappointed

Yelp
Probably within the Top 3 meals of my life. Really. Every course in the Full Monty was a gem... beautiful and delicious. Some genius created a fantastic menu, then found the best wines and hired the best staff. If you need a reason to go to Amsterdam... Breda.

Yelp
Sarah, our server, was amazing! The food was fresh and delicious. I cannot wait to return.

Yelp
By far one of my favorite restaurants in Amsterdam. Not only were the prices super reasonable but the quality of food was perfection. Chef loves to play with fermented foods so it was interesting to see what we get each course (not sour at all). Our waitress was super nice and explained the courses. It's a set menu! So you cant choose what you want, everything comes the same depending if you want the 3, 4, or 5 course meal.

Yelp
I was lucky to learn about this place from a local foodie on a flight. I had a reservation but I didn't realize it was a tasting menu. We decided on the "full monty" (9 course tasting menu) and it is worth it. The staff is very attentive and knows every detail of every dish. They will customize the menu based on your desires and allergies. + Palate cleanser with cod, soup (cucumber, tomato, with jalapeños oil), cheese bread pieces 1)Herring with green tomato, radish, cream 2)Smoked ox heart with Tatar 3)Consume tomato with bacon in juniper 4)mussels with mustard cream & shallot/onion // mom: broccoli with cream and cucumber 5 chimmichurri with carrot (whole & diced) & onion 6 Smoked salmon on salmon filet with cream, radishes, spinach 7 Lamb with 24hrs pickled lemon artichoke hearts and sheeps yogurt 8 Sweet breads with sweet bread cream, caramelized onion, + pre-dessert: Peach, sorbet, goat cheese 9 panacotta with cherries// cheese plate with local syrup

Yelp
Amazing meal! Fresh modern Dutch cuisine and wines in a chic venue. Recommend to anyone searching for vibrant food and an effortlessly classy setting.

Yelp
Truly spectacular! This is a Michelin star restaurant without the title. 5, 7 or 9 course dinner tasting menu. Every dish tops the last. Gorgeous restaurant, attentive staff. Kudos to Cristina. She spoiled us with love and attention. Thank you

Yelp
My two friends and I were able to snag a last min reservation at the bar on a Friday night and boy am I glad it worked out. Conceptually, Breda presents you with a menu that has a list of items on it but, no dishes. You're basically at the liberty of the kitchen, what's seasonal and it's amazing. You'll see by my photos below that the food presentation is really beautiful and well thought out. There were seven courses in total and my absolute favorite was the guinea fowl. What the heck is guinea fowl!? I'll tell you it's amazing and eats like a chicken/duck hybrid. Brilliant. I also really enjoyed the scallop dish and "first potatoes of the season." The meal was spaced out perfectly and progressed nicely so that you never felt too full. Great service, great wine list. Make a reservation because we got really lucky.

Yelp
Prix fixe lunch for 2. We sat outside since it was a nice day, and I think that was the problem! The service was extremely slow and it seemed like they had forgotten about us. The wait time between courses was way too long. The amuse bouche was good, the salad was pretty basic, the lamb was decent, and fish was simple yet delicious. The best part were the desserts! Overall an average experience and I found this place to be overhyped and the subpar service dampened the full Michelin-star experience.

Yelp
Loved this restaurant! We came for lunch without a reservation and they were still able to accommodate us. We had the 3-course lunch tasting and it was quite lovely. Good service on a beautiful day in Amsterdam. We were in a rush to head to the airport, so they were able to speed up the service for us so we could finish up in just over one hour. I recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Amsterdam.

Yelp
Picked this place to be my lunch adventure. The restaurant offers one-hour lunch service, and you can make a reservation online. The issue for me was that they could not make it for one person, so I selected two guests and added in notes that it is for one. My lunch was a four-course surprise menu. I am not a fan of the idea; I enjoy to know what I am going to be served even if I can not make a selection. First, two courses were delightful, but my main course was Mexican inspired steak covered in some Mexican sauce. The only cuisine I don't care for I got it here served as my lunch. I was intrigued in the beginning, but after the main course, I felt disappointed. I have been at the sister restaurant Guts & Glory, but this season they also gave Central American menu. I told waitress I don't care for the steak (after giving it a fair chance) I was ready to leave, but I was served substitute course - pork belly in hoisin sauce. The desert was fantastic! Chocolate ice cream with the beetroot foam and the raspberry jam. After all, this is a good dining experience and if you are nearby to check it out, but make sure you list everything you do and do not like before committing to the surprise menu here Service was polite and timely.

Yelp
Excellent meal! We had the five course dinner at a table along the canal. Our server asked us what foods we didn't like and and one plate was adjusted accordingly. Every plate was well thought out and delicious. It is difficult to say, but the ribeye steak was probably my favorite. I look forward to eating here again.

Yelp
Service was really good. Food was not bad, but for me was basic for being so highly recommend as fine dining.... the lamb was over cooked and didn't pair nicely maybe we went on the wrong day :(

Yelp
Every course was amazing! Plan for 2.5 hours. Lots of time for conversation between courses.

Yelp
Every course was amazing. I had the 9 course portion and it was worth every euro. Each dish was explained thoroughly by the servers. Highly recommend.

Yelp
What a find. I love this restaurant. Great value. Great food. Great beer and very reasonably priced wines by the glass from Italy and beyond. In fact, their tasting menu is exceptionally good. The 7 course for 70 Euro pp is the best we have had in Amsterdam thus far. Thanks Breda. We will be back.

Yelp
No a la carte menu's. But you get to choose how many courses you want of their own tasting menu. We've read some really good reviews about Breda, but unfortunately the week we went did slightly disappoint. We took the medium menu which I believe was 5 courses for 64.50 euro's per person. The taste in most of the dishes had the same sauce base and after sometime frankly I was just sick of the same flavours. I guess using the same sauce base is cost efficient. The only thing that I wasn't sick of was their onion amuses. Unfortunately, the food was just ok. If I am very honest I just felt nauseous after the long dine and wine. And I wasn't the only one. Service was okay, the host seemed a bit lost at times. But the waiters did a fine job. Perhaps better luck next time?

Yelp
Food certainly good quality and most of it very good. The surprise menu is good if you like the food. Otherwise when you tell them "oh I'm sorry I don't eat animal organs", they just say "sorry". So, it's a pretty expensive gamble. Sadly I was disappointed at the end of the meal because I couldn't eat my meal and they just didn't care or offer any alternative.

Yelp
Nice place, great food and good service! We had the 5 menu corse plus wine selection and was wonderful, tasty, and surprisingly all the time.
google avatar

Nermin E.

Yelp
Very good food in terms of taste, creativity, and presentation. The 5 course menu is a sequence of dishes that slowly build up to the main one before ending with a pre-dessert and dessert. The service was good; the waiter explained each dish presented and gave us a good recommendation for wine. I would definitely come back to experience another selection of dishes.

Yelp
7 course meal, and I have to say every dish was perfect! Unique in every way, delicious, flavor and texture to back up the appearance (so not just show). Food was simply stellar!!! Service here is also near perfection, ambiance is also wonderful. I tried guys and glory first but this original staple blew it out of the water by far.

Yelp
Restaurant Breda in Amsterdam clearly have ambitions and there is a clear talent in the kitchen but they are not really delivering on the top level that I think could be capable of. The space is nice and inviting and we are quickly seated when arriving. Menus are handed out and the staff are quick to explain the concept - there are three different menus to select from (for dinner). They are prized in three different categories but we are given the explanation that the price does not reflect the number of dishes so one will be full irrespective of what menu one selects. The lack of information is a bit annoying as they do not even reveal how many dishes there are and selecting wine (from a very good wine list) is also difficult since there is no information on what one will eat. They do offer to make recommendations based on the dishes that are to be served but that requires a level of trust that they know what they are doing. I do however like that it is ok to mention things that one does not like and they then suggest avoiding certain menus or offer to adapt a specific menu to suit. We are informed that the dishes will be coming fast so they say ordering glasses of wines is perhaps not the best but rather a bottle. That holds true in the start when we in short succession are introduced to three dishes. One little taster of some mushroom puffs, some breaded potato and some vegetable stock followed by clams and some other sort of shell fish. The first dish was excellent while the others good but a bit boring. Then there is actually a fairly long break until dishes start coming again. There is very clear feel of new Nordic cuisine in the dishes presented and they are all very fresh but I am also feeing that I have seen it all done before and unfortunately for Restaurant Breda better. Perhaps unfair comparison but it does to some extent remind of meals at Gastrologik and Ask where I have been more blown away by the quality. Here it is good but except for an excellent cod dish, some nice onions and interesting desserts it does not reach the level I would have hoped for. The duck is average, nicely prepared but flavors do very little for me. The most interesting dishes are the desserts where I think they deliver an excellent beetroot sorbet with white chocolate. The flavors go perfect together and that is then followed by crispy chicken skin with apples and some cream. Service was good throughout the evening, they manage to be present and alert and strike a good balance between professional and friendly so a very nice evening. The food is also good but at this price level I would have hoped for slightly more. I do however have a feeling that they will fine tune and it is already very good so hopefully it will soon be amazing but until then they get a four rating.

Yelp
Great place to dine while in Amsterdam. The service was excellent and deserves 5 stars. The wine list is excellent. The dishes are very regional and minimally processed. I would recommend it to people in Paleo diet. Make sure to make a reservation and get at least 7 courses as the 2 extra dishes were probably the best.

Yelp
Amazing surprise menu. This was a great experience, they squeezed us in for a 2 hour window where we did a 5 course menu. Super accommodating of our group's dietary restrictions. Had one hiccup where the waitress tried to move us to the bar when the 2 hours were up. That was an odd demand from her especially as the kitchen was slow to deliver the 5 courses. Anyways, they made up for it. Food was solid.

Yelp
One of the best meals I have ever had. Sat outside for the lunch tasting menu, enjoyed a fabulous bottle of rose and the service was also nice. The pre-starters were amazing! The tomato soup and the green beans were a standout. Everything else after was also superb, especially the fish! I must say the dessert was the best course of all.... and I don't normally like dessert, but this passionfruit cheesecake creation was absolutely mind blowing. I will recommend Breda to everyone I know.... and I will be eating here next time I am in Amsterdam. Too bad we didn't have time time try Guts & Glory...

Casper D. R.

Yelp
This place is an absolute gem. Our seating was primarily a set of stools around the serving bar. Don't get me wrong. Not to degrade the seating. The opposite. It's nice to eat at the bar whilst overlooking the restaurant. Alternatively sit or stand to your linking. I even prefer it. (If you really want just call ahead seating to make a reservation, you'll get a table I think.) I'not going to list all the beautiful courses I ate. You have to go there and try it yourself. You will not be disappointed. The amuse (appetizer) with ragout..... The bouillon of ale skin...... The detail of a fried chicken skin.... Oh! we indulged ourselves so vastly..... And the chef made this all happen. Thanks! 5 stars for the food since I wouldn't know what could have been done better. it's just delicious ;) an extraordinary achievement.

Yelp
Very creative food in this nice restaurant. The level is really amazing with a 3, 4 or 5 courses menu. You let the chef making you discovering his cooking. Great experience.

Yelp
Stepped in from the cold with no reservation - found us a table for 2 after 30 minutes at the bar with a great Gewurtztraminer sparkling. Really warm lively place filled - like a scaled down version of Gotham Bar & Grill in NY. Surprise 5-7-9 course tasting menu. We chose 7. Mackerel sashimi w green apple. A celery soup. Razor clam risotto. Cod with onion & wild love. Pidgeon w blueberry. Spicy chocolate and espresso ice cream. All the food was as excellent as the service. Highly recommend.
