Breezes Island Grill Restaurant & Lounge

The Ackee and Saltfish with provision was deliciously tasty and perfect temperature. So was the Peanut and Oatmeal Porridge. I loved the fried Breadfruit and Bammy. Everything just hit the spot for me. I will dine in for dinner one day soon.

I was looking for a great shrimp and grits and this place has it! The drinks were amazing and the food was absolutely delicious!!!! The irie pasta (Rasta pasta) was veryyy good as well! So happy to find a local spot that fulfills my needs!!! Trust me, you will enjoy!! And if you are dining in, ask for Raquel! She was so patient and provided great service! Trust me this place is PHENOMENAL!!!!

This place had gone down so bad its sad the owner must not give a damn. Anyway I just ordered the irie pasta spicy with oxtail from here. Instead they gave me the plain pasta without the oxtail😒. I was hungry so i tasted the pasta it was disgusting trash with a hint of cinnamon. The spice was non-existent at this point i started to think not having the oxtail was a blessing. Call them to tell them but i was on hold for 7mins probably fgt about me like they did the oxtail so service is a 0. Crazy thing is the pasta used to be great but obviously no upkeep in quality here. Do not order from this establishment u will regret it.

The food was delicious. The resturant is clean and the server was polite. I had curry chicken with rice and beans with steamed veggies and plantains. They also have takeout. Parking is around the corner or the first right turn before the location. I will be back.

DO NOT order the sticky wings!!!!! I swear it felt like they used real glue! The wings on the bottom were literally stuck to my plate and the waffles tasted like some sort of cookie with syrup. My chicken and waffle experience here was awful as I now should've gone with my first mind and orders the jerk chicken. My wife had the shrimp and loved it. If I ever go back, chicken and waffles isn't an option

We went for a 12pm reservation on a Sunday, and although a little understaffed, the workers on hand stepped up to the challenge! Let me just say that the food was SUPERB and we have 3 very picky young adults!! Every dish that was put in front of us was DELICIOUS, and we had quite a few to select from. The peanut oatmeal porridge (which we had Never tasted prior) but were encouraged to try (even provided with samples), was GREAT! The vegetable potstickers were nice and crunchy on the outside and filled with delicious goodness, and loved the dipping sauce. Our absolute favorite food, was the ackee and saltfish with fried dumplings. We loved the authentic flavor of the ackee and saltfish and the dumplings were out of this world. They were HUGE and deliciously CRUSTY on the outside!! The same can be said about the festivals. We had never seen festivals so huge. They were Phenomenal! The boiled dumplings and bananas were good as well. Our kids couldn't get enough of the saltfish fritters! We also got 2 dinner entrees: Escovitched snapper and Curry goat. Our pickiest child ate ALL of her snapper and raved about it! We have recently been to Jamaica, the country, and I will tell you that the curry goat was AUTHENTIC. We thoroughly enjoyed it, and loved the heat off it. The portions of everything were GINORMOUS! All five of us were Well fed, and we had a ton of leftovers to take home! In our humble opinion, the food RIVALS The Door! We will MOST definitely be visiting this establishment again and would recommend it to ANYONE looking for a delicious meal

Our 2nd visit, we had to take someone to Queens on Sun so we visited Breezes. We had met Brittany a very nice beautiful server in June . She wasn't there this time. The goat meat, all of it was trashy but the rice & veggie was good. It's the nature of goat meat sometimes, so for once I didnt make a fuss as I would usually do. The atmosphere here is nice and the girls are nice, mannerable, respectful.

I was at the airport on a long layover and decided to go out for curry chicken. Breezes Island Grill did not disappoint! I had a deliciously strong rum punch to start my meal. The curry chicken was so tender and flavorful and most importantly it was not boneless! The staff was friendly and welcoming. I took curry and jerk chicken to go back to Arizona with me. Five stars all around!

Wow. And then wow. Authentic as it gets - from the killer rum punch to the all day simmered oxtail. This place rocks. Shout out for the pineapple jerk empanadas as a starter. And Kevin was the host with the most. Will definitely come back

The breakfast is so good and they have the best porridge ever they also have callaloo and boil dumplings kidney and ackee

I order chicken soup from this restaurant many times .Each time i specify Just meat and Broth !No food .Unfortunately no one reads instructions as they have messed up my order at least 7 times in the last few months !Maybe they don't care .I will now go elsewhere .

Food is always so amazing the jerk pork is my favorite ! The tai chili shrimp is also a great hit for me

I have been driving by in front of this restaurant for years. I decided to give it a try because it's on my collection of restaurants to try this year. They have a takeout side and a sit down for dinner side, since indoor dining starts today in New York City, it was open. I used the takeout side and ordered the stew red snapper with rice and peas, Mac and cheese. It comes with plantains and cabbage, the fish was tasty, delicious and well seasoned. The rice was bland, dry, but the stew gravy gave it flavor making it moist to eat with the fish. I enjoyed the meal and would definitely try them again.

It's so unfortunate that I have to write this negative review. Let me start off by saying that the Chicken Soup and Calamari was amazing. The soup was tasty, fully flavored, a hint of spice and thick. The calamari was seasoned and the sauce was great. So here's the issue. While we were sitting and eating, we were encountered by a critter known as a roach. Sadly, it was an adult roach which means that it is possible to lay eggs. Once we saw the critter, we were no longer interested in finishing our food. Not to mention, the vast amount of fruit flies we were slapping from our food and faces. We didn't make a major issue of it, but we mentioned it to the waitress who then relayed the message to the manager. The manager finally came out but was reluctant on addressing the major issue. The manager killed the critter on the painting, with a tissue, and just said "sorry". To kill the critter, he asked us to move so he can kill the roach over the eating table. This was the hurtful part, especially since the waitress was way more attentive to the situation. Now, looking at Yelp, the establishment has been cited for violations prior to this review. I would suggest the establishment increase the frequency of their exterminator's inspection until the issue is fully handled. After a long deliberation between Robert (the manager) and us, he finally addressed the issue by removing the un-eaten food from the bill. Keep in mind, it took multiple times of him coming to the table and a conversation of 20 minutes to determine his best actions. I don't want to write-off the establishment due to this one occurrence, but the lack of urgency and action was a major cause for concern. I hope that these MAJOR issues are addressed and management can learn, address, and deal with the patrons in a more empathetic manner.

Their servers must be properly trained because each time I went in there I got some very subtle rude experience. For example, look what they serve me for $13 yesterday. Well, they lost a customer, Yep!.

On a regular day we order crab legs and irie pasta. The food is good. Portion size is reasonable for what you pay. A little too heavy on the parsley, but overall good flavor. Loveeee the irie pasta!!!! The seafood platter was good also but heavy on butter!

The food is decent but the service isn't worth it stopping by. There is too many places in the area that have similar food to deal with such poor service.

Ordered codfish and calalloo. All I tasted was black pepper. I should not have to add salt to codfish. I could barely finish it:/

The food is good here...but the Customer Service??? If I could give a negative 5 stars I would... While waiting for an order I noticed that one of the workers behind the counter was wearing her mask below her nose and mouth. When I nicely brought it to the attention of the woman that was behind the register seemed annoyed that I even mentioned it to her and gave me much unnecessary attitude about it. Ultimately she told me "well if you feel so uncomfortable about it you should say something to her". As the CUSTOMER, I shouldn't have to tell THE EMPLOYEE that they need to be compliant with current state health mandates, but I did...NICELY...ask the employee to put her mask on and she did...WITHOUT the nasty attitude of the woman behind the register. Especially during this pandemic, I take every opportunity to support black owned businesses. I hope that either Robert W. the manager or the owner is reading this post so they can know that unfortunately this was my LAST trip to your establishment. Yes, the food is good...but I can get the same or better food elsewhere WITHOUT having to spend my hard earned money and get unnecessary attitude from an employee. I hope this person's poor attitude does not cost you any more customers...

I can't believe I have to write a review like this ! My friend decided to take me for a drink yesterday to treat me for my bday. I'm not sure the staff name I wish I got her name but she asked my friend if she was pregnant (one of the most annoying questions when you're not pregnant!) my friend explained to her no , she walked away and then returned. She then refused to serve my friend and says I know you said you're not pregnant but you LOOK PREGNANT so I can't serve you (I won't go into more detail but it was very disheartening that a black women refused to service another black women because of the way she looks ) once she said no that should of been end of discussion. Also as a black women you should know the issues we go through as women ! That causes bloating which also causes issues with in which you CANT get pregnant ! To see that was so hurtful and so sad I have never saw this in my life this place will be sued for discrimination!

I order from this restaurant on DoorDash so much it should be shameful lol. The food is always seasoned great and fresh. Plenty of variety and tastes delicious!

Customer service methods is unsatisfactory. They need to improve the quality and accuracy of their customer service care. Also They charge for food that was never delivered. This is not good conduct .

This place is a hidden gem. Aesthetically the outside does not due justice to the great ambience of the warm island vibes inside. I ordered the Shrimp and Grits along with the Lobster Rasta pasta. Now my family is from the south so i worried about the grits not coming out like the old southern style, but what a surprise. The shrimp and grits cooked to perfection covered with parmesan cheese. The rasta pasta was in a bowl fit for two topped with a juicy fried lobster tail. The customer service was impeccable. The cheif Sheldon gave A1 service making sure our meal was cooked to our spice preference and owner Robert was a gracious host. I would highly recommend visiting this establishment .bring your family ...bring a friend..great place for a date night.

Placed an order for this restaurant through Ubereats. Waited 40 mins for Resturant to make order and an additional 15 wait for the delivery driver to receive the food and deliver it to me. Upon delivering the food, I noticed that the driver delivered the wrong order. I quickly called the driver and the driver explained that the Resturant gave himthat order and it was the only pickup he had. Upset and frustrated I had to drive to the Resturant (defeating the purpose of ordering off Ubereats) to get my correct order. Upon arriving at the Resturant, it was chaos. Crowded line to place the order, crowded area of multiple delivery drivers trying to pick up their orders, no wonder I received the wrong order. I spoke to the Manager behind the counter responsible for the ubereats orders and she asked me to return the wrong order that was delivered & told me that I'd have to request a refund through Uber & my original order was not there. She didn't really offer me a solution for not receiving my food so I requested to speak to a boss. The boss was very helpful, remaking the order himself within a timely manner to ensure I left a satisfied customer. Hopefully in the future this restaurant will ensure proper orders are being given to the drivers, especially when you have 3 people working on Uber orders. I don't think these mistakes should be happening

I have ordered a few times here because my partner liked their irie pasta, the food is good but the service is terrible. I always call ahead to put in the order and end up waiting at least 20-30 minutes for the order after calling ahead which makes no sense to me.

Ordered delivery yesterday, 2plates 1 oxtail Rice n Peas, the other w/ their Famous Fried chicken, payed $2 extra And subbed the rice for Mashed Potato w/ oxtail gravy. Just to try something different. The food arrived in time. No contact delivery worked well. Each plate should have come with Stir fry vegetables. We received barely cooked Carrots and broccoli, not stir fried. No flavor or seasoning The oxtail and rice were ok. The Famous Fried Chicken in my opinion wasn't very good. It basically became soggy And wasn't very inviting to the eyes. The taste wasn't too bad. But the texture wasn't good, and hard to eat, due to the way it was cut. The mashed potatoes wasn't worth the price, I believe they were instant, and not creamy at all. Overall poor execution.This was our first time ordering From here, wouldn't order again.

Ordered the crab legs. Spicy. Nothing spectacular just regular snow crab legs. Could've been actually spicy. ( extra spicy was my order lol , there was no spice lol). Definitely a reasonable price for $25+ tax

no issues with the food, the problem I have is with the staffing. the worst or the worst services, they make me feel like I am begging for the food not to mention the extended wait time, also the attitude makes me not enjoy the food. sad to sayI am a Jamaican not not wanting Jamaican food from here no more .also they are very stingy with the proportions. We hosted a Christening brunch here and the food was absolutely delicious. I order the snapper and it was Perfectly cooked and you could tell the fish was cleaned properly because it was not smelling fishy. Not one complaint for a party of 30.

Boy oh boy ... not everything is for everyone i see . I ordered the jerk shrimp and grits and lemme tell i it's the worst shit I've ever had in my whole life on this earth. The grits a swim like porridge to raas and the 5 shrimp they put in it for $17 ??? This food taste like good i use to feed to my dogs back home in Jamaica . Like who tf can spoil grits ??? Tf man

When you really want to write a good review but can't. The take out spot is great. I've eaten from there several times. Because of this i knew the indoor dining would be just as good. Unfortunately on a quiet Sunday night it was not the case. We were supposed to go to The Door but i don't like eating at a restaurant 40mins before closing. It's just not right. So we came here as next best choice. We had to wait to be greeted no big deal. Jayda advises us to sit in the eating area. On dirty tables but she kindly wiped it after i told her it's dirty. I defo wanted fish. Fried/ steamed whatever but it had to be fish. I was craving it. So i asked how long would it take because our time is slightly limited depending on cooking time. She stated the escoveitch fish is the quickest out of the 3 fish meals. Ok no problem. Could take 20mins minimum but not more than 30. No problems there was time as we would still have an hour to eat after cooking time. We ordered two drinks, identical drinks. She comes out with one. So we asked for another. It took 20 mins for the other drink to arrive. In between this we were advised by the chef there was no pork left and we can have chicken. I'm assuming he couldn't find the server so he came and told us. No big deal 40mins later we had to ask an off duty employee (you could tell he was affiliated, because he was always back n forth) if the food would be appearing soon because we could never see the server Jayda. Eventually it came out and we asked for to go boxes straight away because we knew she would disappear again and our time is now shorter due to the wait. We asked to have breadfruit and Jayda asked if it was on the side or instead of rice. We both asked instead of rice if this was a possibility,she said yes. Cool bare In mind it would have only been $4 to add breadfruit but since i wasn't feeling to eat rice I'd rather not waste good food. We had to look for Jayda once again to get the bill. She comes and i notice the 2x $4 for breadfruit. If that's the case then where's my rice since im paying for it all. Jayda stated its an upcharge. But i tried to advise her the menu said extras /sides were $4 and had a list of items. She clearly didn't get it and thought she could just lie. Then i advised her that none of us got plantain in our meals and she apologized and said that was here fault because she forgot to tell us. So at this point i had to break down our whole dining experience and how dissatisfied i was with it all. She told me she's alone and has to work the whole place. So basically i should have compassion. I advised her i work in a hospitality role and would have been honest from the jump that you were alone. None of this is my fault, i work just as hard and would like last my hard earned money spent on things i can enjoy, so put your self in my shoes too. I asked where the manager was since she is so burdened and she said she doesn't know but not here. I said that's who you should voice your complaint with. So i asked for his name and the restaurants number. Jayda said she doesn't know it but if i search online i can find it. I said how about i look on the receipt and find it. There it was. So i clearly taught her something. So Robert is the managers name and i will be calling to speak to him. Defo eat the "to go"food from the shop on the side. Just don't waste your time and effort to eat inside. Another issue i had is, if two people order the same food make sure the quantity is somewhat equal. My fish was so small compared to the other plate. Like did i order a kids size.

I'm really not sure why there are so many negative reviews. I found that the food was authentic, ambiance was great and the service was impeccable. Our server was super friendly and came to check on us ever so often. We got coconut water and she even left the expiration date on the bottle so we could see it was fresh. I apreciated that alot. I had the jerk shrimp and festival to start. My co-worker suggested this place and the festival to me. Said the festival was soft and melted in your mouth and boy he was not joking. That was the best festival I ever had. Shrimp was clean on both sides. My brother ordered the codfish fritters and they were very tasty. My main dish was the jerk chicken with rice and peas, cabbage and plantain. My bro had the oxtail with rice and peas. His oxtail fell right off the bone. My jerk chicken was a bit dry on account of the white meat but our server brought dipping sauce for me. She also put oxtail gravy over my rice. There was a party about to start that was going to continue until 12. The host for that party invited us to stay but we opted out. We appreciated the invite and also the top notch service we received. It is worth mentioning that the food took awhile to leave the kitchen, which I anticipated based on the reviews. I would have been worried if they brought it out too soon. But everything was very tasty and I definitely will be back.

First let me say I called to confirm their hours & the man I spoke to was very kind. Myself & my party of 6 were greeted in the take out area & directed into the main dining room. Our server immediately took our orders for drinks & soup or salad. Then appetizers, then main courses. I've never received good hospitality in a Caribbean restaurant until I went to Breezes. Every staff member that we dealt with was amazingly kind. My family ordered Pumpkin & chicken soups. They went for it before I got pictures. We got henny wings, sticky wings & cod fish fritters. The fritters were so good we ordered another batch. The wings were good but pretty spicy. For my main I got the pasta with oxtails. I already had their oxtails via Uber eats but the pasta was great too. My mother told them it was my birthday. They played the birthday song over the loud speaker, brought me cake & sung. Then the waitress invited me to take pictures in the VIP area. Overall, I have no complaints & I will return & continue to order via Uber eats.

I've been searching for the best cod fish cakes...and these aren't them. They were too oily and the middle was raw!

I wish you you had not bothered to quickly defrost the fish and cook it just to fulfill my order. The flesh of the fish was hard and tasteless not delicate. Definitely not worth the wait. I want my money back! Shame on you for having me wait two hours for this tasteless crap!

Despite the bad experiences in the past, I continue to try to patronize the Breezes because they are the closest restaurant to my home and the fool is usually good but ma'an is their Customer Service terrible. As a Business person myself, I understand the necessity of good Customer Service since they portray the first impression of the business. In the past, I had complained about the Breezes Customer Service and nothing seem to improve. My latest experience is today Friday July 15th, 2021, I called the Breezes at (718)527-5012 and someone answered and said "please hold" and so I hold and hold and hold and more than twelve minutes later the person came back and asked to help me. I explained that I just wanted to see what soup was on the menu today and I was put on hold for more than twelve minutes. Any normal Customer Service Rep would say I am sorry or something to that effect but this young lady who said her name is Nashita or something close just said what soup they have today and hanged up. Come on people, we can do better than this and I urge the Breezes Grill to take the challenge and perform at a higher standard. Seriously!

Loved everything about this place. My friend and I stopped in after work to grab dinner and some drinks. We had complimentary pumpkin soup which was amazing. Then for appetizers We tried the jerk wings also delicious. For our meal we both ordered the shrimp Pasta and was just amazed how delicious it was. They didn't skimp on the shrimp either which was great. Our server was Jada, very nice young lady that made the best drinks. The bill was also very decent so my experience here was just amazing. I will be a repeat customer. Thank you!!!

This place is cool not to far from my house i went with family.. We had a wonderful time. Drinks had me on my ass but overall it was wondeful. Good for dinner in or take out. Oxtails with pea and rice is good!

The service is horrible and rude, they don't even greet you when you walk inside or even say a word into you speak first. There was a piece of curly hair on my jerk chicken and the young lady does not even care to have on her hair cap fully covering her hair. This is why there was hair in my food. They young lady mask barely covering her mouth and not fully on. When I came back to return my order with the hair on it, they gave me another order with only bones and barely meat as refund.

Food was good, drinks were strong. I had the escovitch shrimp and the escovitch snapper both was excellent. I also had the goat head soup. Excellent and authentic

Drink is on point; just wish the heat was on while sitting at the bar. Well we got our food and the presentation was wonderful but the food was very cold after waiting 30 mins for it to be prepared. Now let's get to the spice when I say the meal was so spicy I had to take a drink after each bite of course caribbean dishes spice is a norm but gosh my wife and I can't handle the spice.

I will most likely not order from this restaurant again. The PRICE OF THE FOOD DOES NOT MATCH THE QUALITY AND PORTION. I ordered the Mango Jerk Salmon with a side of mashed potatoes and asparagus along with French fries and Breezes Iris Pasta. The Mango Jerk Salmon had a decent taste but the quality and price did not match up. The salmon was palm sized (a woman's hand), small, tough and the Mango wasn't fresh. I DID NOT RECEIVE fresh asparagus- I received mixed veggies that tasted and looked like bagged frozen vegetables and the mashed potatoes were so so. So!, for 18 bucks I most likely received a small Farm raised frozen salmon and frozen veggies along with mashed potatoes that didn't taste that great! This is terrible. Cmon, for 18 bucks at fine establishment I would have gotten a fresh chunky/ flaky piece of salmon with a fresh mango sauce , fresh asparagus and a nicely whipped mash potatoes. I truly feel CHEATED. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND this place to a friend I am only giving this place two stars because the Breezes Irie Pasta wasn't so bad. It wasn't good enough for me to return for a second visit though. And lastly, the French fries weren't fresh and tasted like fries that was reheated. Hope my review helps the next person decide on whether they would like to take a bite at Breezes Island Grill.

I would give zero stars if I could. I took my sister who is visiting from Florida here around 11pm because her flight came in late. The woman who was in the take out area had absolutely zero customer service skills. She barely made eye contact and behaved as though she was angry we came in. We still were polite and thanked her after we got our food and she said nothing. The food (jerk chicken and rice) was okay per my sister.

Ordered Uber eats from Breezes and the food was Phenomenal !! The food Had so much flavor! I order the jerk chicken tacos , sticky wings , and Rasta pasta.

I ordered take out from Breezes recently. I had the irie pasta with shrimp & jerk chicken. My mom had the mango jerk salmon with mash potatoes and asparagus. The irie pasta was good. It had a sweet taste to it, and the jerk chicken chunks and shrimp had enough pepper to satisfy my soul! My mom said she enjoyed the mango jerk salmon, but will leave the asparagus out next time. Sometime in the future I'll visit for happy hour or dine in.

Don't get me wrong the food here is authentic and delicious. The service? Absolutely horrible. Came here on Mother's Day for a nice dinner and was severely disappointed. Waited 15 minutes to be approached by a waitress to ask if we needed any water or drinks, took over an hour for our food to arrive in pieces (not all at once) and mind you the place wasn't even crowded. I'm very upset I chose this place to take my mom out to for a nice dinner. Side note the waitresses have bad attitudes and pick and choose who they want to give good service too. Never coming here again.

Decided to go Monday night for their Midnight Brunch. The food didn't disappoint, music was on point! Great ambiance! Definitely felt comfortable. The hostess had a great personality she was very accommodating. I will be back

There's a new spot in town ! I've known about this place for a few weeks, just haven't had time. I'm glad I finally did! I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to beeeze's. There is a ton of free street parking available. The decor inside is very modern but warm. It is a pretty big place divided into a bar, dining/lounge area and a takeout area. We dined in! We ordered wings, irie pasta, codfish fritters , crab legs, potstickers, & their signature Hennessy margaritas. We loved everything except the fritters. None of us tasted any codfish. Lacked that Island spice we grew up on! Everything else was amazing ! The only thing we could complain about is portion size. The portion of crab for $18 seems small. Anyhow, We're rooting for breeze's. We'll be back again !

I went here on Valentines Day. The food and drinks are really good, and I found good parking. If you're taking public transportation there's a bus stop right in front of the restaurant. The bathroom was clean, which is always appreciated. To eat I had the curry shrimp with rice and peas and steamed vegetables. The broccoli in the steamed vegetables were raw and cold but I actual didn't mind since the onions and carrots were hot and I dipped the broccoli in the curry sauce. The rice and peas and the shrimp was DELICIOUS !! To drink, I had the rum punch which was tasty. Let's just say you could smell the Wray & Nephews, lol, but it wasn't too strong to drink at all. For the appetizer, I had the fried chicken wings with the sweet sauce, which was also good. All of the food I had was fresh which is always appreciated. The ONLY issue I had was the service. We waited an hour before our entrees we out, and had to ask for everything. MULTIPLE times. The staff was polite though, they just seemed a little overwhelmed, I'm not sure how much business they usually get. But other than that I had a really good experience and would certainly go back again.

Delicious flavors of spice and sweetness in every bite! The flavors of this dish complimented each other very well. I was skeptical because of the two flavors combined rather than served side by side but it was amazing.
