It's been a while since we've written one of these, but here goes! We saw this spot on TikTok and it seemed pretty positively hyped, so we figured we'd get up on a Saturday and give it a try.
When we arrived, just prior to opening, we were surprised by the lack of activity inside. Fortunately they opened on time and we eventually entered.
One pet peeve I personally have with entering a restaurant, is the anxiety of not knowing the flow or expectation when I enter. This is unsettling and puts the customer on their heels from the get-go. We eventually figured out to take a menu and go to the left to order. We picked a few items off the menu and found a seat.
The restaurant on the surface is clean and seemingly well maintained. We loved the garage doors with screens providing adequate airflow on a beautiful summer morning.
Our food eventually arrived after some time, and the longer we were there and the more we ate, the less impressed we were.
The chalkboard at the front advertised their fried cinnamon roll as a "specialty," and while it was okay, it eventually just became a wall of dough without a ton of personality. We'd have happily paid for an upsell of some kind of jam or caramel or something to break it up, but it eventually just became "meh." We also ordered the waffle bites, which were dense, over fried and had a very small cup of dipping icing that was insufficient for sharing or the portion.
For our entrees, my wife had the breakfast club, based on the recommendation of the employee, and I had the meat lovers burrito. They were fine...but that's it. Both incredibly bland, both clearly constructed by businesspeople that have no sense of food taste or pride in their product. There was absolutely zero seasoning or layering of flavor in either dish. I did get the aioli on the side, but it would not have been good in this burrito in my opinion. I have never used hot sauce in a breakfast food I've eaten...until today, and it definitely helped some, but the lack of overall conception to the dishes was a major letdown.
As we sat and fished, we saw baked goods being brought from the back, but were quickly turned off by cinnamon rolls being left open, sitting on the counter, unshielded from any potential number of customers passing who knows what onto them. We also saw the pickup line building at front with no direction to it, and minimal customer interaction.
For a place in such a prime spot, and with such positive social media on TikTok, we expected so much more, but we went from "this will be a place we might have to try a few times," to "yeah, probably won't be back. It wasn't worth the trip all the way across town."
