Brentwood: Luv the food, Luv the atmosphere, Luv the staff.
Would HIGHLY recommend!!
- I've lived in Dallas for a LONG time, and if you remember the old Houston's on Beltline well, this restaurant is Houston's all over again, without the same name.
Last month, I heard rumors that there was a restaurant that opened up where the old Houston's on Beltline used to be, that was similar to Houston's, so I told my husband about it, and, well, we gave the restaurant a shot. We went there to eat for the first time two weeks ago, and since then, we've been back two more times.
Our first visit: We were in shock when we walked in. It was the same Houston's interior that I remembered. They've updated, and made a few modifications to the pictures and the flooring, but other than that, I saw no change. I felt like I was in a time machine! It was also a bit strange because my husband and I used to eat at this location, like two to three times a week, and so there were a lot of memories that popped in my head, good ones. I remember going to eat there during the manufactured Covid era and they were closed down, this was almost four years ago. I mean, one minute they were there & the next minute they were gone! with NO notice! I remember asking the staff at HillStone why they closed & they said it was because of the rent had increased, but that wasn't the REAL reason (that's another story).
The Food: As for the food, I looked on the menu and, it was the old Houston's menu, with the crispy chicken tenders, salmon, salads, spinach and artichoke dip & smoked Salmon appetizers, coleslaw, creamy mashed potatoes, Baby-back Ribs; you name it.
I mean, I was driving down to Uptown to eat at Doc B's, for this same menu selection of food, because Doc B's has the same menu as the old Houston's.
I remember seeing the menu & thinking if this food is good, I can now stay closer to where I live now, and get the same high quality food! So, I gave items on the menu a try, and, there was NO disappointment. The food was EXCELLENT, Delicious and quality of the food, was high. They have specials too! The first night we went to Bentwood's I had the grilled Salmon with their creamed corn & jalapeños, and the mashed potatoes. My food was hot and amazing! My husband got a Classic Fillet and it was cooked properly (sorry I forgot to take pictures. I was hungry & forgot ). I did ask the waiter if they had any Chefs dressing for the Salmon, and, they did not, but they do have a tartar sauce type dressing, that comes with their smoked salmon appetizer, so ask them for a side of that dressing, if you are like me and like a little tang.
DRINKS: I ordered a Tanqueray dirty Martini with BC olives, and it was cold, properly made, topped off, very good and strong. My husband ordered a beer in a cold glass, and the only complaint from him was that they need beers on draft.
A couple of nights later, we went back. This time I ordered the Ribs, coleslaw and a baked potato, which were all awesome! My husband ordered the crispy chicken tender dinner with the french fries and a house salad and his food was also VERY good EXCEPT, he said he didn't have enough chicken tenders, so he asked the waiter if he could order more tenders the next time, and they said yes, it's only $3 more (sorry again no pictures it was a late night & I was tired).
Then, a couple of nights ago, we went back again, and, I ordered the French dip sandwich with coleslaw and french fries, and it was Great! (this time I took pictures, YAY!). My husband ordered the Crispy Chicken Tenders dinner, again, but this time he ordered extra chicken tenders, and, he had no complaints.
ALL IN ALL: In summary, the grilled Salmon is probably my favorite, the coleslaw is very good and has the thin slices of cabbage, not the chunky pieces, the mashed potatoes are smooth snd creamy, the corn and jalapeño side dish is amazing, the Crispy Chicken Tenders and the BB Ribs, are as good as the original Houston's and the rest of the menu is definitely worth trying.
The wait staff here is wonderful, the bar staff is very friendly. I mean there's nothing bad that I can say about the place.
NOTE: I found out that Brentwood is owned by Hudson House, another restaurant in Dallas, that I really like to go to.
Also, we went to this restaurant, late one night, just before they closed, like a half hour before, and the staff was friendly. They didn't give us an attitude about walking in late and the food was just hot, fresh and good,
- so going enjoy the place !!
I'm kind of thinking maybe I shouldn't have left them such a nice review, because their business may increase, but it's worth it. They deserve it. I'll just have to make a reservation.
