Do not use this firm for any of your criminal defense needs. This firm specializes in back-door conversations with judges and prosecutors only to make a plead deal and do not want to fight for your rights within a trial setting. Specifically, one of their attorneys, Kevin Corriston, was handling a gun forfeiture case with Judge Mark Janeczko. Judge Janeczko along with the Bergen County Prosecutor wanted to open my expunged and sealed record. Although I was against this from occurring, Kevin Corriston took it upon himself to tell me it's a "losing battle" with this particular judge and not to object to it only because I would lose the objection. What Kevin Corriston failed to recognize was the fact that by placing an objection on file is actually tactically significant and he never should have consented to allowing the prosecutor to open one's expunged file as their is no advantage for us as the defendant. Keep in mind, I have never been Guilty, pled guilty, to any crime ever. And because there was a simple DV charge which was dismissed and expunged, the state confiscated my handgun collection and now refuses to give it back although every charge has been dismissed?
While waiting in the waiting room this week during a virtual court appearance, I received a phone call from Kevin Corriston's legal assistant advising me that there will be a new trial date and that Mr Corriston agreed to opening my expunged file against his clients wishes and did not place an objection on file which was also discussed with him. While I was waiting to be heard by the judge, Kevin Corriston had a back-door communication with the judge without me there which is a violation of my constitutional rights, but yet, Kevin Corriston, still proceeded behind my back. I was left with no choice but to email the court and the judge personally to let them know to place an objection on file and later fired Kevin Corriston. The very next day, which was yeaterday, the judge apologized on record for this occurring. Anyone whom has used Mr Corriston in the past for a gun forfeiture case should look into having their money refunded and having their case reopened as Kevin Corriston lost almost all of his gun forfeiture cases according to him and blames it on the state of New Jersey being difficult to work with in these types of cases. Guns that are seized and not returned to their rightful owner becomes a "prohibited revocation." Equivalent to that of a felon. In this type of case, particularly this case, there should be no acceptable resolution other than to having your guns returned.
