I write this review with extreme sadness because, not only do I understand that this company has had a couple of rough years, but also because I have visited this hotel a couple of times since they opened (once in early 2019 and again in mid 2023) and it is now like a shell of the hotel it used to be.
Rooms:
There was wallpaper shredded/ripped off the wall at the bathroom doorway, there was a framed photo missing from the set of six by the front door, the koozie that velcros to the bathroom mirror was missing, and the stationary was missing as well.
It also appeared that our room wasn't fully cleaned as there was a dirty tennis ball left in the room, trash laying on the floor, and some long black human hairs on one of the bedside tables.
The Roku in our room had never been setup so the front desk associate came in and tried to help get it working, but to no avail so we had to get a universal remote so we could at least have the TV on to help drown out the noises in the hallway.
We were staying for two nights, but our room key stopped working after one night. Not sure if all room keys disable at checkout time (11am) every day, no matter how long you're staying?
Freebies:
The free beermosas that used to be standard with breakfast are no more. The front desk associate told me I would have to pay $5.50 for the beermosa if I wanted one.
Also, one of the perks of being an EFP member is you get a free drink on your birthday. Since it was my birthday, I asked about this perk at the front desk and was met with a super confused look: they had no idea what I was talking about.
The advertised "cookies and stout" from 7-9pm is really just cookies. The first night we asked about the stout and the associate said, "We don't have any stout here. If you want some, I'll have to go all the way next door to get it........ so....... did you want the stout?" We declined, but they didn't have any the next night either.
The candy and dog treat jars by the elevators had about five pieces of candy/dog treats in them during our stay.
Breakfast:
One of my favorite things about staying at this hotel shortly after it opened was the breakfast. It was filled with fresh meats and cheeses and breads, individual milk bottles, mason jarred fruits and yogurts, roasted potatoes, powdered sugar fresh French toast, jars of cereal, and fresh pastries (amongst other things). Even when we went in summer 2023, there were still roasted potatoes, fresh pancakes, pastries, fruit, individual Bob's Red Mill oatmeal cups, etc.
Flash forward to our latest stay: There were three cereal containers filled with Froot Loops, Apple Jacks, and Frosted Flakes (with only one type of milk). There was individual cream cheese, grape jelly, and peanut butter packets, but no bread/bagels to put them on. No fruit. There was two chaffing dishes that had super greasy, buttery eggs, French toast sticks that were rock hard, greasy sausage patties, and VERY greasy hash brown patties (like the ones you get at McDonald's). The pastries were the tiny cinnamon swirls and danishes that you can buy packaged up in bulk. We overheard the staff saying on the first morning that what was out was all they had because they were waiting for their shipment to come in that day (so we were holding out hope that the next morning would be better); however, the next morning was the exact same breakfast except the rock hard French toast sticks were switched out for silver dollar pancakes (that looked exactly like the kind you buy frozen and heat up in the microwave). Both mornings we ended up having to go across the street to Tim Horton's for breakfast.
As we were leaving (earlier than planned due to the subpar breakfast options), we stopped at the store in the front of the complex (with about 1% merch and 99% beer, when it used to be about 60/40 merch/beer) to get 4-5 packs of beer to bring home. It was 930am on a Thursday and the associate came to the counter and said he wouldn't be able to check us out until 11am. We left with no beer and super disappointed with the trip as a whole.
