First Look: Inside Brewery Faisan, Detroit’s New Belgian-Style Taproom - Eater Detroit

"A huge new taproom opens this week in Detroit’s Islandview neighborhood, bringing a slate of Belgian-style beers to the east side. Brewery Faisan is set to debut on Thursday, October 24 just a few minutes drive from the Detroit Fall Beer Festival at Eastern Market with seven different original beers on tap. Owners Paul and Rachel Szlaga developed the new brewery — a passion project that’s taken them close to three years to realize. The husband and wife team got their start homebrewing nearly 9 years ago. Some of the recipes they developed over the years have now made their way onto the menu at their Beaufait Street taproom." - Brenna Houck

Google
Just a good brewery! All their beers are delicious. Good outdoor space in the summer. Great indoor space year around. Always friendly staff. Food truck rotations and occasional live music (bring in more music!) love this place!!!

Google
The lavender beer was enjoyable, with a light, refreshing taste perfect for those who prefer milder drinks. I loved the subtle lavender flavor, which added a unique twist without being overpowering. Unfortunately, the $5 pretzel was a bit disappointing. It was on the harder and bland side even with the seasoning and only came with a spicy mustard, with no option for cheese, which would have been a nice addition. Not worth the price. The atmosphere, however, was warm and inviting, with plenty of board games to enjoy - perfect for a relaxed outing.

Google
Such a great vibe! We did a casual wedding welcome party here and can’t say enough good things about how wonderful this space is, how kind and accommodating the team was, and much everybody really enjoyed the beer (and wine)! This is a fantastic and classic Detroit spot and now one of our favorite breweries around!

Google
#41 in the Metro Detroit Brewery Discovery Tour. Tired of adulting and having eaten lunch, I decided to hop on the 🏍 and grab a brew. It's a nice day and I won't be able to in a few months. Without Google Maps I would never have found this place. Talk about a nondescript building. This place just begs you to relax. Chill, take a load off. Soft jazz playing just loud enough to be heard, wide open space, light colored furnishings, plenty of light, games to be played. The beer is quite good. Plenty of styles to choose from: lighter choices like a pilsner, kölsch, or witbier. A dark lager. A couple IPAs, a couple saisons, ciders, then topping out with a Belgian dubbel, a tripel and a big, bad barleywine (11%). Wine is available also. And 1/2 pours are literally half price. Not 60-70% that plenty of places charge. I'm rather enamored of that. Parking is free and right out front. Don't be surprised if you need Google to find it.

Google
The absolute best Brewery in Detroit! Elegant and inviting! Board games, artwork for sale, patios, seating outfront, pop-ups. I love every beer there! From pils to dark lager; all available in cans to go. I'm especially into Barrel-aged stouts and hope they make one someday 🙏 if you drink craftbeer! This is definitely a place to not miss! Love their shirt designs! Do it.

Google
Brewery Faisan is a nice, chill spot off the beaten path. There's plenty of parking close by. The beers are high-quality and reasonably priced. There's plenty of comfortable seating both in and outdoors. I'd definitely come here again.

Google
Cool location, industrial section of a neighborhood that is on the edge of a comeback February 2023. Great service, The owner head brewer was bartending. Beer is very good, nice selection. They serve flights. No food, but there was a food truck serving lobster and it looked okay. We didn't eat, but the beer was good.

Yelp
Pretty cool space! They have plenty of seating inside and a pretty decent patio. I love the ambient lighting it makes it so cozy in there and they have a good selection of board games. I'm not a beer person but it was good! It was rainy when I went so they didn't have a food truck there but I check their facebook to see events.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite types of breweries. First, excellent beer. IPA, Belgian, saison, stout. All very good. But I love the atmosphere. Very open, lots of seating, family friendly, and bring your own food. I love a brewery that also serves food, don't get me wrong, but this type seems more casual and less pressure to eat or leave. We played games, our kids relaxed, and we enjoyed their beer. I can't wait to come back when it's warmer to enjoy their picnic tables outside.

Yelp
It's a very nice brewery and place to chill with your pup. It was taco night when I went and I never met a taco that I didn't like.

Yelp
Great selection of beers at a fair price! This place is perfect for a quiet evening on Friday and also works as a place to do some studying or work. Music is dancey but not overbearing and easily fades into the background. Tucked in a suburban-like nook, this place transports you from the bustle of the city and makes you think you're in a suburb. The IPA selection is small but both IPAs they serve are great! Other beers are creative in flavor and are sure to impress.

Yelp
Came in on a Saturday to try a few beers, it was not overly busy which was nice! Found out they didn't offer flights so my friend and I just shared a few different ones! Had to walk in to the counter to order, then they had an abundance of seating both indoor and outdoors (some shaded and some not). Over all a really chill atmosphere which I always enjoy from breweries!

Yelp
Awesome food trucks, people, etc. SOOOOOO good. Great beer. Big variety and not just the common choices.

Yelp
A cool new brewery with lots of positives. We were impressed with the space, particularly the comfy cool looking chairs. You can't underestimate the comfort of a good chair when relaxing at a restaurant, these passed the test. The beer selection was pretty varied, and I liked that you could get small sized beers to check them out. Also since I'm smaller and don't want a giant beer, I liked that I could have 2 small beers and try out 2 different options. The prices were very reasonable. There isn't any food, but you can bring in your own, but there was free popcorn and it was delicious. Another bonus - games. My bf and I played a game of cribbage while enjoying our beer & popcorn. It's not in a well populated area - but there is parking. I'm hoping that the brewery will start a revival in this area.

Yelp
If you're into Belgian beers, you have to check this place out. I loved the Dubbel. Friendly staff, chill vibes, board games!

Yelp
I stopped in the first day they were officially open and have been going in since. Their offerings have been pretty consistent so far. An IPA, a session IPA, a belgian pale, a porter, a raspberry saison, a stout, and a kolsch. I haven't disliked any of their beers yet! They're all well made, not too green, and clearly thought out. The space is wide open, the popcorn is free, and they have some games to play inside. It's a very nice place to meet for after work drinks. They've been doing curbside pickup during COVID and they are great about it. Schedule, pay, and pick up with no hassle for some really well priced 16 oz beers. I've gotten a bunch of the Landfowl Kolsch and Paterwagen Porter, they are my absolute favorites. The ossuary session IPA is a great sipper and I'd like to try their take on pilsner if they ever decide to make one. Really happy to have them in Detroit, and so close to Belle Isle!

Yelp
Charming small brewery on the east side. Nice atmosphere, really like the art on the walls. Good beer, served in nice glassware. We even saw a pheasant outside, which is the namesake of the brewery.

Yelp
We came in the during the first week they were open. They do have attached parking although the lot is tight to maneuver. I was surprised how large the space was when we walked in. Very open, bright, and for something so large I feel it was lacking and a bit cold as there wasn't much to the decor or ambiance besides just a large open space. We were excited to try some true Belgian beers. The night we stopped in the Dubbel was not ready yet sadly but we look forward to trying it. I have to say the beers we had were great. We were pleasantly surprised! The Coffee Stout was very well done. Not to sweet as a lot of them tend to be. It's always great when a new place opens and their product is really good. Both of the owners were very sweet. They answered all of our questions and gave us great info on their beers and what made them open. Definitely a place we plan to return to. They had a food truck outside and games to play. So eat, drink and have fun. My only criticism.... We were given coasters for our beers from a stack on the counter that were dirty and stained. A bit gross. Hopefully it was just a one time thing.

Yelp
One may ask, What is my hobby? Well, a Brewery Bunny, of course!!!!! I love hopping from one brewery to the next. I'm always on the look out for the newest spots to try and will most certainly be the first in line for a freshly tapped craft beer. It's exciting to see so many new Breweries popping up in the city. We've been to Brewery Faisan a few times over the past few months and we have truly enjoyed our overall experience and the service is fantastic. Located on a quiet industrial street, is brewery magic. This warehouse has been transformed into a unique spot for the community. The space is large with a variety of seating options for patrons. We've been here early afternoon and sat at the bar, enjoying conversation with "beer"tender. They offer a nice selection of beers, you won't be disappointed. Another thing I appreciate about local breweries, they support the greater community. I was excited to learn about the frequency of food 'pop'ups and charity events. There is something special about shared collaboration between small business. I love the family vibe of this brewery. We were fortunate to attend a special 'pop-up' featuring Esto's Garage. It was a packed house, patrons with their families, friends, and even four legged friends were welcome. If you are into Trivia, they host a special night for Sporacle, which is always a fun night out. Brewery Faisan is a must stop on your next brewery tour of the city.

Yelp
Tucked away from the hustle and bustle you will find brewery Faisan. Where your dreams of having a Belgian beer on tap come alive! We enjoyed a board game and beer in their large open space seating area. The bartender was informative and nice. We definitely can't wait to come back in the summer, they have a great patio area!

Alexander M.

Yelp
One of the best new breweries in Detroit. The beer is well made, and I cannot wait to see what they brew in the coming years!

Yelp
New brewery with a great open atmosphere. We had the Wit and the coffee stout. Both were excellent. I love the open space and the decor. The owners sourced the materials from local business and live and work in the city. Great local feel. I love what they are about and the beer is top notch. I can't wait to go back!!

John S.

Yelp
beers here are fantastic. atmosphere chill and welcoming. highly recommend, a definite must try!!

Yelp
Well-brewed Belgians and a selection of American style beers that are also great. But, seriously, try the Belgians. Excellent space for hanging out with the whole family. Lots of board and card games, free popcorn, and plenty of seating.

Susan Z.

Yelp
Brand new and beautiful! A very fun soft opening! Delicious beers in a variety of Belgian and American styles. Easy, comfortable atmosphere. This will be a place to relax with with friends over and over again. Owners and staff are superior! Friendly and welcoming. It's well worth making it a point to visit- if you do, my guess is that you'll be back! And yes, it's in a great location, easy to park. There were also quire a few people who biked or strolled in.

Teresa E.

Yelp
I stopped by today to enjoy a lovely summer beer. I tried the cranberry cardamom brew which was delicious! The service was friendly and the outside picnic tables were perfect to enjoy the summer weather.
google avatar

Vassilis J.

Yelp
The beers were mighty fine and I normally don't enjoy American made Belgian beers. The Wit, Dubbel, and the Belgo Pale Ale were all very tasty. Its a big, brand new space that was surprisingly not that loud. A little more orientation to the decor might help but all in all a comfortable spot. Free Popcorn too!
google avatar

Sarah K.

Yelp
Great new brewery with a tasty initial lineup of beers! Some Belgian styles and some American styles. Really like the open taproom space, the beautiful tables and bar top, and the view into the production area. Very warm and welcoming space. BYO food. They have popcorn and games available. Just off Lafayette with plenty of street parking out front.

A L.

Yelp
I like this place a lot! The beer is extremely good, and strong expressions of traditional styles. The dubbel is the best in the city, the porter has good chocolate and coffee notes, and the saison is bubbly and spicy. The space is very aesthetically pleasing and great for children, popcorn is delicious. I wish they had Belgian fries, but hopefully some day soon. Looking forward to getting back ASAP...

Lisa P.

Yelp
Beautiful space and delicious beer! They offer half-pours so you don't have to commit to one particular beer if you can't choose. Pop-ups and waffles on Sundays, otherwise bring your own food if you like. Great space and friendly people.

Joe B.

Yelp
The beer is awesome. The tripel was my favorite, but they were all good. Great place to hang. And great service.

Jan M.

Yelp
It's a great place to have in the neighborhood (or within a mile of home). Comfortable, easy going and I haven't had a bad beer there yet. No kitchen so far but you're welcome to bring your own.

A H.

Yelp
Great beer great service great people. Every beer is good and the place is quiet but welcoming
