"The taproom at Brewery Silvaticus has been open since late last summer, specializing in brewing beers inspired by Belgian farmhouse ales and German lagers. Head its way for a pre-meal pint of saison or Kellerbier, and set a good base for future drinking by snacking on a pretzel." - Terrence Doyle

Google
Brewery Silvaticus in Amesbury, MA for some of the best traditional ales & lagers in New England. This was my fourth trip here over the past three plus years & it did not disappoint. Everything I get here has always been so crisp & refreshing. It's great to see breweries that focus solely on traditional beers in the area thriving after a decade of wild IPA trends & juice bombs taking over the market. Places like Brewery Silvaticus, Czar's Brewery, Vulgar Brewery Company & Schilling Beer Co. are already ahead of the changing trends to more traditional beers. I had two full pours & a half pour this trip around & got to introduce a friend to their beer, which lived up to the hype I put on it. 💪🔥 I started off with a full pour of the REQUIEM Vienna Lager which was delicious & had a great finish with subtle caramel flavor. I then scooped a half pour of the MISHTASTIC Kolsch which had the perfect amount of sweetness with a nice corn finish. I totally regretted not getting a full pour of this one. My last beer of the night was the QUINTESSENTIAL German Pilsner, a above average pilsner with plenty of flavor packed in. The winner of the three was definitely that MISHTASTIC Kolsch though, absolute perfection there. I feel like I had the perfect holy trinity of traditional beers here with a lager, kolsch & pilsner. 🍻🍺 A simple taproom with plenty of tables, a bar area looking into the brewery & a patio outside. The taproom itself has a modern yet rustic feel to it with a fun aesthetic, some fun merch & what looked like local art for sale. Our beertender Nick was great & talked a little about every pour he gave us which was really cool. This place definitely f%#ks hard, especially if you're into more traditional fare, can't recommend checking them out enough. 🍻🔥☘ #newhampshireeats #wildweekend #Massachusetts #NewHampshire #craftbeer #newengland #BeerGoals #untappd #beerstagram

Five years ago, I simply gave this place five stars, and I can't believe I did not elaborate. Admittedly, I have a list with a few other to try, but Silvaticus is the #1 brewery I have been to in Massachusetts. And that's based on the beer alone. Everything I've ever had here is a masterpiece, from old standards to interesting experiments. Whatever the style, I think the brewers here tend to appreciate crisp, clean beers with tremendous flavors. Oh, and the spot is awesome and the staff are always friendly, knowledgable, and attentive.

Warm evenings = happy hour at @brewery_silvaticus Open: year round Seating: indoor and outdoor Parking: off-street Order: Beer, pretzel, and marinated veggies Pros: Simple snacks to have with an awesome variety of beer types. Something for everyone. Vibe of the entire place is modern comfortable. Games and self-serve water inside means you're invited to just hang without rushing. Outdoor space is a total backyard hangout vibe. Music surrounds you while you forget about the day and slip into relaxation in either space. Food trucks frequent their curb so always check their media and grab dinner here when you can. Cons: They don't distribute so bring a cooler to safely transport your take-home haul.

Google
Rustic brewery with all the charm you'd expect in a small New England town. Great family vibe with an open, airy space inside. Very clean too. No food on the menu but the food truck we saw had some good options if your were hungry. Our group got 4 different beer options (all very good) and I'm looking forward to a return visit to try more. We'll worth the stop if you're in the area.

Google
Very hard to find a brewery that does European/Old World beers. And wow, does this place deliver. For those that aren’t into that, the pale ales are also excellent. Really cool interior and the bar tender was friendly and very knowledgeable. Only sad I don’t live close by to frequent it.

Stopped in for a beer before dinner. Just happened to be the 6th anniversary...wish I wasn't going to eat. They had prince pierogi food truck and great beers. Super busy but still easy to get a beer. Highly recommend the limited edition oktoberfest.

Google
Daddy likes his beer. They had some great traditional beer German beers, but also some unique beer/whiskey or beer/wine fusions. Friendly lady running the joint. I even took home a couple of 4 packs

Google
Great beer, great atmosphere, and great food. The staff were super friendly as well! The pretzel is definitely worth it if you're looking for a snack while you're there.

Yelp
This was the worst pour I've ever seen. I informed the bartender, and asked if she could provide a better pour. She said that's how we pour...there is well over an inch of foam and this picture is after our conversation and the foam started to settle...she would not add anymore beer. This is the first and last time I'll attempt an evening at this establishment...fortunately there are better options in town.

Yelp
We stopped in for a beer on a beautiful sunny day the Oblivious Black Lager was good and there was ample outdoor seating to enjoy the day. Service was good considering they only had one waiter and one bartender on duty for a Sunday afternoon in August.

Rebecca J.

Yelp
Great beer, great vibes. Now serving non-beer drinks for your less fun friends. Buy some records across the street at Mel's while you're in town.

Yelp
Silvaticus is my favorite brewery to go to with a great location. Excellent beer and nice people. Often food trucks as well.

Gregg M.

Yelp
Great beer and even better service! The staff is friendly and goes out of their way to make sure your beer is served quickly as well as properly poured. Keep up the good work!

Jena J.

Yelp
Cut and dry: This place has fantastic beer- some of the best I've had and certainly the best in the area - and great ambience. It's vibey, not too bright, with the long German style tables to sit at, or the bar, or the area near the brewing section. Its one Achilles heel which everyone has mentioned is that they don't do flights or half pours. The servers will explain very well why- it has to do with glassware- but we all wish they did half pours.

Colleen W.

Yelp
Good beer. Also nice that they have wine and cider for non-beer drinkers. Very cool refurbished mill bulding. All the servers are super friendly. Nice food menu but they also have food trucks. Fun place!

Barry K.

Yelp
I was very happy with the Oblivion. We sat inside, ordered our beers from the bar, and ordered food from the food truck outside. Parking was quite easy. I'd love to come back here

Dee S.

Yelp
Awesome pourmaster who shared his knowledge (and samples!) for hubby and I after a beautiful 14 mile bike ride! Loved the amber beer for me and the y-knot for hubby. Hummus, olives and chips were a nice addition. Loved the outdoor patio-- fun vibe on a Friday afternoon

Gary D.

Yelp
Just visited the brewery and although we were ready to have a good time it turned into a minor debacle. I went and bought a shirt and bought an XL. I walked 20' and showed my husband. He stated it was too small. I walked back within 60 seconds of buying the shirt and the person behind the bar says "no exchanges". I bought the shirt 60 seconds ago! I didn't want a refund .. I wanted to exchange. Small businesses pull the supply and demand card, staffing issues, etc. they should be happy for any business they get but apparently this place is doing so well they can't accommodate customers. Poor. Stay away if you are looking for a good time!

Kelsey M.

Yelp
Unique ales that will satisfy the palette of any beer drinker. We are typically sour and IPA drinkers but this brewery definitely does it right! Great staff and a dog friendly outdoor seating area as well! We will be back!

Kristina M.

Yelp
Great Radler! And the cheese broachata dip is so delicious . Good outdoor space as well. Great spot!

Jodi B.

Yelp
Great spot. Quintessential Pilsner and biere de Blanche were both delicious. Modern interior and awesome logo. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area.

Griffin D.

Yelp
The beer is better than the staff and the beer isn't very good! I would've gone to "The Barn" across the street if I knew how bad the service was here.

John M.

Yelp
Was here on Saturday 8/21/21. Great service and even better beer. Friendly helpful staff with excellent outdoor and indoor seating. Lots of dogs outside which is always a good thing and also kid friendly. Town parking lot is just steps away, which was free on Saturday. Located near center of town. Definitely would go back!

Jeff D.

Yelp
We really enjoyed the beers and the pretzels here. The Smash and Grab and Oblivion were outstanding. Food ordering was a bit confusing but we eventually got our pretzels. The space is outstanding with high ceilings and huge windows. My only complaint was that there were tons of flies everywhere, and they were not shy about landing on us or our beer glasses. Seems like a problem that some strategically placed fly strips and changing those strips every couple of days could dramatically reduce. Other that that we loved our visit and look forward to coming again.

Yelp
Was staying in Amesbury and saw the ratings for Silvaticus so thought I would head over and give it a try. Great downtown location and easy parking for access. Street view was very appealing/inviting. Inside, such a cool atmosphere...mash tun, fermenters, kettles all in full view for lending to a natural microbrewery feel. Tons of seating inside and out. Bar was relatively small for such a nice place and considering the sign "please order at the bar" is a bit inconvenient. There was a group of 4 standing at the bar thus blocking most of the beer ordering area. Maybe add to that sign "please order from bar...THEN GET OUT OF THE WAY". Beer list was diverse but too Lager heavy for me. No straight true ales/IPAs but I get it. I ordered the Fat Axl as a sub for my IPA palate, and then the Hundo. Both servers were very nice but tried to convince me that a 1 1/2" head was "correct" for both of these beers. NOT. Not to get into the grain bill and proteins, aromatics etc, but 1/2"-3/4" head is sufficient. As my Papaw would say "don't piss on me and tell me it's raining". The Axl was good but had a mild off astringent flavor. Have to say though that the Hundo was exceptional. 5 Star alone just for that sour. Beers were a little pricey. If you're a decent tipper your looking at $9-10 for a beer. All in all a very good brewery with tons of potential. Would like to see a NEIPA. Maybe a couple. Recommend giving this place a try.

Yelp
Making great lagers and pilsners in amesbury. This place is world class and a great addition to the area.

Elayne L.

Yelp
Ok I get it they don't do flights but as a person that doesn't drink much beer, I would have liked to taste a few. They didn't do a small taste either, I guess because of COVID. I would go back but not my first choice because of the above. Lighten up and give the customer the choice.

Sam S.

Yelp
Absolutely LOVE Silvaticus!! Fricken beautiful interior with a nice size patio. The owner is super friendly and all of the beers are delicious! They seem to have about 5 or 6 on draft at a time (all different types... so I'm sure there is something for everyone). They don't serve flights, but the owner will give you a taste of whatever you want. They have some snacks... pretzels and cheese plate. And the location couldn't get any more perfect! Right across the street from a large parking lot and a stones throw away from downtown! This place just opened and the owner already recognizes me! This will definitely be my new hangout spot!

A Y.

Yelp
This place as a brewery is completely fine but this new "food with beer" law has made it so I have to consider food into the review. Expensive, limited for small items, and nothing appealing. If we're going to be forced to purchase food you should be offering something at one dollar. Not 5 dollar gas station items. Some people can't force down multiple meals at different locations and don't like wasting food. Will update when they fix their menu to offer throwaway items that aren't so expensive.

Michele P.

Yelp
Love this place! Great beer, really nice people, delicious pretzels, & great dog-friendly, shaded patio, even on a hot day!

Paul B.

Yelp
Great brewery with plenty of choices nice atmosphere in an old mill bldg. check it out...

Foodie Mom C.

Yelp
We went by Brewery Silvaticus when we couldn't get in to a nearby brewery, and we are so glad we did! The beer was great, and we enjoyed multiple pretzels and the pickled veggies were delicious with just the right amount of zing. They have a really nice patio and our table overlooked a creek below. Although they were busy, the wait was only 10 mins. There is also a food truck for more food options if you want a more substantial meal. A large parking lot across the street adds to the convenience. We will definitely be back!

Keith A.

Yelp
Great local vibe. Good German style beers n lagers. Good prices too and a generous sized pours. Love it when they bring in food vendors too. Very nice people behind the bar.

William B.

Yelp
There are many craft breweries out there, but this one has some exceptional beer, a very nice atmosphere, bar games, and a great staff.

Dana M.

Yelp
Very chill atmosphere that pays homage to the historical area of Amesbury - went in for their 1st annual Pumpkin Carving with my family and boyfriend and enjoyed the Benny blanco craft brew and it was yum!! The giant soft pretzel and cheese plate from a local cheese artisan were also delicious! Would visit again, and highly recommend this local gem!!

Daniel S.

Yelp
This place has a various selection of in house beers, we had a baked pretzel among many other appetizers they provide. The staff and atmosphere is awesome and look forward to our return. The music selection is on point with Motley Crew playing in the background.

kris s.

Yelp
We have been to a lot of breweries and this one is top tier. Staff (Ben and Isiah) were very friendly and patiently explained why they do not offer flights. Oh, you want the explanation. To paraphrase "To appropriately taste a good beer you need more than a few ounces. Otherwise, you have a variety of flavors intermingling and not experiencing the beer for what it is". So key is to be immersed in your beer of choice....and yes, you can sample any beer ahead of time so you get the one you want. Truer words were never spoken. We thoroughly enjoyed our beer choices (Oblivion nitro black lager, Long Shadow bourbon barrel aged baltic porter, Apropos a saison for or from the Gods and Quintessential a noble German pilsner). You think I remembered the beer names by heart. I will let you think that or....fess up and divulge I had to take a pic of the offerings so I could let family and friends (and you) to not miss out on any of these. We will be back for another nitro and then some. Hopefully, before the rest of you. Enjoy!

Scott E.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my visit to Silvaticus. Great German beers and awesome guidance to drive my selection. Also, while visiting, we accidentally knocked a beer glass over (completely our fault). Not only were they incredibly gracious, they even provided a replacement beer. Complete class act and would recommend visiting for the great beer, fantastic environment, and wonderful people.

Lorenzo R.

Yelp
Great place- stumbled on this brewery and the staff was great the beers are all good tried many of them and there raddler was top choice for the wife. The atmosphere is excellent and very friendly people.

Ken P.

Yelp
A real hidden gem in Amesbury. They brew authentic continental European style beers, ie lagers and pilsners. Friendly service, they sell growlers, outdoor beer garden by the Powow River is very cool. Great for playing board games or just chilling with friends. Quintessential Pilsner is my favorite.

Kacie B.

Yelp
The atmosphere is awesome! The beer is okay to good, depending. They could use much more seating and more food options! Never-the-less, we are happy to have them in our small town!

Alexa D.

Yelp
We visited here on a whim and it was a great stop. Played jenga while drinking great beer in a beautiful refurbished boiler room. The owners were gracious with my grandmother who doesn't like beer, giving her free samples to try it out. We left with a bunch of awesome glasses and cans of our favorite beers.

Rob G.

Yelp
I can't say enough good things about this place. The beer is always spot on and perfect to style. The atmosphere is great, the service is always fantastic and the team knows and loves what they do and the beer that they serve. I love what they do with beer and their approach - they're taking styles that have been done time and time again, with no margin for error and they're nailing them every single time. Don't expect a list full of IPAs (that's a big part of what I love - let the beer speak, don't hide a poor fermentation behind a wall of hops), but a well curated list of beers that will refresh your palate and have a distinct, tannic dryness that will keep you coming back for more....and more....and more.

Greg K.

Yelp
Great spot. Cool setting in an old mill building with outdoor seating in the warmer months. The beers are wonderful interpretations of classically styled Germans and saisons. My only issue with the beer is that it comes out of the tap too cold. It take a good ten minute of warming in my hands for the nuances of the beers to come through. So, I guess this is really an issue with the dispensing and not the beer itself... which, again, is delicious. Not a dinner place due to the limited menu, but a great spot for a couple of beers after work or a weekend lunch consisting of beer, soft pretzel (best I've ever had!), cheese, and salami sticks.

Amanda T.

Yelp
Nice, easy drinking lagers with good flavor. Enjoyed the outdoor seating area, really cute.
